Backstory
Sophia Salvatore was born on June 18, 1839, to Giuseppe Salvatore and Lillian Salvatore in what would eventually become the town of Mystic Falls, Virginia. She is the middle born child of Giuseppe and Lillian and fraternal twin to Damon.
Most would describe her as to be rebellious, emotional, troubled, insecure, misunderstood, impulsive, competitive and irresponsible and seemed to lack a general sense of direction as she never took her etiquette lessons seriously and had always preferred to be roughhousing with her brothers than acting like a proper lady of the 1840's which lead to Sophia and her father to never get along as Giuseppe frequently expressed extreme disappointment in his daughter and often than not was trying to get her to act more ladylike so that he could court her off to one of the founding family sons, George Lockwood despite her resenting the idea of being sold off.
When Katherine Pierce came along Sophia was quick to realize that she was tearing her brothers apart which lead to her distaste towards the woman which began to result in her figuring out what Katherine was after she started noticing bites and wounds on her brothers which lead to Sophie to hate Katherine even more.
With their relationship with Katherine, Sophia began to become estranged from the brothers she was so close to their entire lives especially as she tried to convince them of how wrong it was and that they shouldn't be fighting over the same woman but they refused to listen which resulted in the siblings to begin to drift apart and Katherine to begin to feel threatened about the female Salvatore.
Eventually Sophia, fed up of her brothers feuding confronted Katherine threatening to tell the founders council and after discovering her darkest secret of running from someone Katherine killed her...or so the brothers would come to believe as the same night they were turned into vampires and never saw their sister again.
Sophia's POV
"You don't have to come back there with me" he whispered, hands cupping my cheeks. "I'll kill the doppelganger and be back"
"I can't run from the place for the rest of my life, I have to face it head on and I get revenge on the bitch that killed my brothers, I'm in 100%"
"Alright then Angel, lets go" I smirked at the nickname he'd given me and leaned in to capture his lips.
"Watch over my original body until I need it"
"With my dying breath" I vowed but he shook his head.
"Preferably without that part Angel" he argued and I smiled at him before he left me with one more kiss. "I'll contact you when I need you" I nodded then watched as he stepped into the case which would hold his original body until his witches put him back into it and I heard his breaths even out signaling the guy he was body snatching was inside his and under a sleep spell.
"Be careful my love" I whispered even though he couldn't hear me then began packing up for the trip to my old home...Mystic Falls where my human life ended and my vampire life began turned by the one and only Klaus Mikaelson.
I finally heard from him and so I was on my way back to my birthplace, checking out how much it had changed with the case in which held his body behind me in the trunk and the witch Greta sitting beside me, she was loyal to Nik which of course I honored but as all traits were heightened with vampirism my jealously over my love ones was one of those things that heightened for me but so long as Nik trusted her I could trust her to keep us safe and to break this curse for him, his lifelong dream.
"He didn't say anything else" I asked Greta seeing as she was the one he'd contacted which of course had me worried that he was in danger as he had a habit of thinking he needed to protect me from the world and the troubles in which he found himself in.
"He told me exactly what I've already told you" she replied which made me turn towards her, I narrowed my eyes not sure I believed her since I was a pretty good judge of character and I couldn't help feeling like she was holding something back from me, no doubt a direction from Nik.
"I guess I'll find out anyway" I replied right as the convoy of cars we're travelling in all stop and they start unloading our luggage along with Nik's body and I see Maddox, one of Nik's other witches meeting us wherever we are. "Maddox" I nodded at him and he smiled at me.
"Sophia, pleasure to see you again"
"You too witchy" he rolled his eyes which made me smile knowing how much he despised that nickname. "Now where's Klaus?" I asked him and he nodded towards the building we were in front of and that they were carrying our luggage up into. "Lets not keep him waiting then" he nodded his head and we headed up.
"Maddox what took you so long?" I heard an unfamiliar voice ask.
"You got a lot of luggage" Maddox replied as the others ahead of me carried our stuff into the apartment.
"Greta finally" Greta walked in.
"Hello love" she said and I glared at that but I remained with Nik's body like I promised. "Nice body, ready to get out of it?" she asked the stranger but I knew the soul in which was really inside it and I made that my entrance with the box in which held my lovers original body but unlike the others I was forced to stop at the invisible barrier in which all vampires were forced to restrain too...I hadn't been invited in and so I couldn't enter.
"My love" he smiled towards me. "Apologies for the circumstances but fret not I'll have this meat suit invite you in as soon as I can" I smiled at him before my eyes finally befell her and they narrowed as hers widened seeing me for the first time since 1864.
"It can't be"
"Hello Katherine" I smirked at her.
"Sophia, it's not possible" my smirk grew wider than a cat with a canary in it's grasp.
"I guess you should have made sure I was dead, instead of leaving me to bleed to death in the woods while you went on to get my brothers killed, you're the reason they're dead!"
"Alright now love, you might want to save some of that for later" Nik interrupted but my sole focus was on Katherine as I saw something pass her eyes which confused me, she was hiding something which I was fully intending to torture out of her later.
Maddox and Greta set up for the spell and Nik in the human meat suit stood beside the case holding his original body and they began the spell with me hopelessly trapped outside the room pacing as I awaited for my lover to be spelled back into his own body but when the circle of candles all lit their flames up higher I stopped and turned facing the scene as the human suddenly gasped and looked up straight towards Katherine.
"Elena?" he asked seemingly confused before he quickly passed out faceplanting the floor which made me smirk a little before my attention turned to the case as Maddox stood and pulled the front open and I watched wide eyed and relieved when Nik stepped out of it back in his original body and he immediately looked up towards me.
"Now that's more like it, wouldn't you say my love?" he asked in his accent which has always made me go weak at the knees.
"I'll say, my lover" I smirked back at him and watched Katherine's eyes go even wider in shock. "Now care to get this human to invite me in" he nodded and lifted the human up slapping his face to wake him up.
"Alright thatta good mate" I rolled my eyes as the human woke up and Nik pulled him up to stand. "Do me a favor gent and invite my friend in" he compelled and the human looked over at me.
"Come in" he said and I smirked finally allowed to step inside and I skipped excitedly over towards Katherine ready to have some much needed revenge.
"Hold on my love, they'll be plenty of time for that"
"Way to ruin my fun" I scoffed rolling my eyes but I knew his plan to torture her for the next 100 years or so given she's had him on a cat and mouse chase for over 500 and as well as I would give me time to think of the perfect revenge.
"Now mate, I have a message for you to deliver to the doppelganger for me, the sacrifice will happen tonight" Nik told him then let him go and at first the human just seemed confused which had me rolling my eyes.
"Your free, hurry up before I loose my patience and trust me you don't want that to happen" his eyes widen and quickly wasted no time in rushing out the door and I laughed blowing on my nails before brushing a fake spot of dust from my shoulder.
"Now that's over, my love..." I smiled towards Nik before I moved towards him at vamp speed crashing into him with a searing kiss.
"Argh, do you have to do that in front of me" Katherine complained making me break away from the kiss to look over at her.
"Actually Katherine we do since if it wasn't for you I never would have met him"
"How did you meet?" she pressed but I just smirked and cupped the back of Nik's head looking at Katherine as I kissed him purposely making it known that she was no longer in control, she was our prisoner.
"So what now my lover?" I asked once Nik and I had our fill of each other finally pulling apart.
"How about I show you around the town you once called home"
"I would love to" I smiled taking his outstretched hand and we left Katherine to fend for herself.
We got into a car and he started driving us towards the town center and my eyes widened at how much the place at really changed, the modern world taking over the town I once knew and loved, the town I was born in and my human memories preserved to remind myself of my brothers.
"It's changed so much" I breathed out as Klaus parked near the town center.
"All things change with time, you should have seen this place in my time" Klaus said and I smiled a little at his attempt to cheer me up.
"I know I would have liked that as well, it's just this is the last place I'd seen my brothers and it's a sad reminder of them"
"The same brothers who chose Katerina over you?" I turned my head towards him.
"It wasn't always like that, we had been the best of friends growing up especially me and Damon...he was my twin and we did everything together, told each other everything...until Katherine that is then it became secrets and lies not just with me but between him and my younger brother Stefan" you'd think I'd have told him this before given I've been with him for over 145 years but I usually was pretty quiet and tight-lipped about my brothers even to Nik as it was always too painful to talk about them.
"You've never spoken this much about them" he pointed out once I paused feeling a few tears brim the edges of my eyes threatening to fall out at any moment I let them go.
"It's probably this town, it's making me...sentimental" I let out a small laugh to hide the sadness but he of course heard the slight break in my voice as he reached over and took my hand giving it a gentle squeeze which had me smiling over at him. "Now can we get out of here, I've seen enough of this place for now"
"Back to the apartment?" he asked but I shook my head since the less I saw of Katherine the better.
"Take me somewhere we can be alone, I've missed you and I think we deserve some much needed Klaus and Sophia time"
"You know I don't like it when you call me Klaus"
"But I do knowing how much you hate it" I smirked leaning over to kiss his cheek before I took his hand and held it between us leaning my head on his shoulder. "Your my everything Nik and you know I love you right?"
"Of course I do sweetheart just as I feel the same for you" I smiled since although I rarely heard the actual words from him I knew how much Nik loved me since despite what everyone else believes about him, I got to see the best of him and he only revealed his soft side around me which told me how he felt even though people assumed he was just using me or I was just his convenient piece of ass as they say in this century.
He parked somewhere deep in the woods as we just sat comforted by one another's company and having one of those talks which would seem pointless to anyone but us but it was nice just being alone with him since its been so long since we've had quiet time like this to just be with one another and I soaked up every minute of it knowing that the time of the sacrifice was fast approaching and soon he'd be his full hybrid self which I was a little intimidated by but I knew it would not change my feelings for him but things were gonna change and I wasn't naïve to think they wouldn't.
"Promise me that things won't change too drastically, I need you to promise me that nothing will change between us?" I spoke up once the sun had began to rise filling the car with sunlight and I began twirling the bracelet around my wrist staring down at the blue stone, a lapis lazuli which is how I was able to walk in the sun...a gift from Klaus after he turned me.
"Nothing will change between us, my love" he replied without a second of hesitation and he leaned his head atop of mine entwining our hands. "I swear to you, you will always hold a place in my heart"
"As you will in mine" I nodded then turned my head and captured his lips, the kiss slow and passionate, our every emotion pouring into the other before I found his hands on my waist pulling me to straddle his waist a little squished between the steering wheel but that just meant I was pushed tighter against him. "Your my savior, my sire, my lover and nothing will change the way I feel about you Niklaus Mikaelson, eternity isn't long enough with you"
"Eternity is what I offered you when I turned you, love is what I found with you and that makes eternity pointless unless your by my side my love, stay with me today"
"I'll always be right here Nik, always and forever" I vowed saying the infamous Mikaelson code in which they'd brought me in to be apart of so long as lived, I may not be a Mikaelson by blood but they were my family and no one would ever change that.
"I love you Sophia, always and forever" he smiled cupping the back of my head and pulled me forwards so my lips met his, this time our lips moved at a slightly faster pace as my arms moved around his neck flattening myself against his chest as his hands trailed up my waist moving the skirt I was wearing up with his hands. "Your mine" he growled out possessively as he started trailing kisses along my neck.
"I'm yours" I breathed leaning my head to give him better access, my hands slid down between us and I started unbuckling his pants moving my hips upwards to allow him room to slid them down slightly before he guided me down and I sank back down feeling him fill me perfectly in one fluid motion.
"Your mine Soph"
"I'm yours Nik" I breathed frantically as he moved my hips grabbing my waist tight and it hurt a little but I was used to roughness from Nik while lovemaking, he was my first and only lover, our bodies moving in a perfect sync which we had perfected over the last century and a half so we took our time until we reached our peaks coming together as one and I sat leaning my forehead against his shoulder taking deep breaths unable to wipe the smile from my face. "God I missed you"
"I'm here luv" he breathed brushing his hands over my cheek brushing my raven black hair behind my ears.
"So what's the plan tonight"
"I've already have my werewolf where I want him and he'll be in our grasp within the next hour along with a vampire for the ritual then when the moon rises I will collect the doppelganger but we have to assume her friends will protect her so we'll need to sort that out"
"Threatening some teenagers, count me in" I smirked as I moved off his lap back into the passenger seat letting him turn the car on and start to drive back towards town but I noticed something flash past his eyes like he knew something I didn't. "Everything okay?"
"Of course" he smiled over and placed his hand on my thigh slowly raising it up beneath the skirt and I laughed a little grabbing his hand stopping it.
"Nik, we literally just did it, you can't have rebounded that fast" I said before scoffing. "Who am I kidding, I know you can"
"You know it" he smirked over at me and I rolled my eyes.
"Niklaus Mikaelson you are incorrigible"
"You love me for it"
"Perhaps" I laughed before it fell once I found we were back in the town square and I looked around once again feeling nostalgia take over but this time I willed it to not bring tears to my eyes and plastered a emotionless look on my face as we got out of Klaus' SUV and I saw him check his phone smiling to himself. "Good news I take it"
"I have my vampire and werewolf"
"Just the doppelganger to go then" I smirked as he took my hand and he started leading me to what looked like a bar called the 'Mystic Grill' and when we walked in something immediately felt strange, like...something was drawing me further in making me stop near the door and look around.
"You alright luv?" Nik asked stopping placing a hand on the small of my back but I couldn't answer him as my eyes raked over the peoples faces in here before they settled on the bar seeing two men sitting with their backs turned towards us, I saw the shabby black locks immediately and couldn't help my mind flashing to my twin...the same feeling drawing me to walk over there...just like the old twin sense I used to have with Damon.
"Da...Damon" I whispered underneath my breath before I felt Klaus' hand press further in my back and begin to lead me in that direction with the feeling growing the closer I got drawing me further and further to him.
"Gentlemen" Nik spoke as we reached the bar but he was blocking my view. "Why so glum?"
"Ugh...Klaus I presume" I couldn't hold in the gasp at the sound of that voice...it couldn't be.
"In the flesh" Nik replied and I could hear the smirk in his voice while I fought against the sudden betrayal I felt, it couldn't be my twin brother...not after all these years, not when I saw their dead bodies on the road. "Thanks for the loaner, mate" he added towards the meatsuit he had occupied before I'd had enough and moved around Nik and watched his eyes widened.
"It...It can't be" I heard him breath out and I felt the tears start pooling in my eyes as my eyes locked onto the blue eyes of my twin, the same eyes that I once stared at as he soothed my nightmares as a child, the same eyes that always bore into mine and knew exactly what I was thinking, the same eyes that promised to never leave me behind...and all I could see now was my face reflecting back with a look of betrayal. "Sophia"
"Who?" the man behind him asked.
"Sophia is that really you?" he asked standing up and put his hands on my upper arms as if to make sure I was real but that snapped me out of my own surprise and my hand snapped up colliding with his face instantly whipping it to the side with the sheer strength and force I was behind it.
"Damon" I spat down at him before I felt Nik take my hand and pull me back behind him but I couldn't take my eyes off Damon and he didn't seem like he could take his eyes off me either but after a few painful seconds of our constant eye constant he turned away looking towards Nik.
"Any reason you stopped by to say hi?" he asked him.
"I'm told you and your brother fancies my doppelganger" my head turned towards Nik with that revelation.
"Stefan" I breathed out to myself feeling like my heart was splitting in two, both my brothers were alive and have been vampires for clearly as long as I have and neither of them sought to look for me.
"Just thought I'd remind you to not do anything you'll regret" Nik went on as if I hadn't spoken but I felt his hand tighten around my waist which Damon looked down at before he met my eyes once again clearly seeing the betrayed look double in my eyes.
"Ha, thanks for your advice" Damon fake laughed looking behind him at the man, I never did know what his name was. "I don't suppose I could talk you into a postponement by any chance, huh?"
"You are kidding" Nik spat before he looks at man behind Damon. "He is kidding, right?
"No, not really" the man replied shaking his head.
"I mean come on what's one month in the whole grand scheme of things?"
"Let me be clear...I have my vampire, I have my werewolf, I have everything I need, the ritual will happen tonight so if you want to live to see tomorrow, don't screw it up" Nik warned him and I frowned looking at Damon before Nik began to lead me out and I went with him since I couldn't stand to look at Damon any longer.
"Did you know?" I couldn't stop myself from asking Nik as we walked towards his SUV.
"Yes" he breathed out and I stopped in the middle of the road.
"You knew and you didn't think I deserved to know that my brothers were alive!" I yelled at him as he stopped too and turned towards me.
"Would you have believed me if I had luv, you needed to see them for yourselves"
"You couldn't have at least told me, so that I didn't go in there not knowing that it was possibly my twin brother we were threatening"
"Just come with me luv, we need to keep moving" I glared at him crossing my arms across my chest. "You can keep yelling at me in the car" he waved to follow him as he walked towards his SUV and I sighed following him.
"Don't think your off the hook Niklaus" he smirked towards me and I found my anger for him dissipating
"I'm sure you'll make me suffer for it luv"
"Don't act cute Niklaus, you're not cute" I spat shaking my head at him as he began driving and I refused to look at him.
"We both know that's a lie, you find me dashingly handsome and you know it Sophia" I huffed turning to stare out the passenger window as the trees flew past my mind drifting to Damon and the revelation that Stefan was also alive and I couldn't stop thinking about them before I felt Nik take my hand and pull it into his lap. "I'm sorry about not telling you I knew your brothers were alive"
"Why...why didn't they look for me?" I breathed out.
"I don't know sweetheart but you don't need them, you know you'll always have me and that I'd never leave you behind"
"I know you wouldn't" I smiled and moved leaning my head on his shoulder as he drove back to the human meatsuits apartment as we had a dopplebitch to check up on and I made sure to push the knowledge that my brothers were alive to the back of my mind as we headed up the stairs and walked right in but I frowned when I had the same six sense as I had gotten back at the Mystic Grill and I turned towards Nik letting him know something was up which he understood near immediately and looked straight at Katherine who looked like she was making coffee but you knew with her really especially when she was the first to speak up.
"Everything ok?' I glared at her since she obviously knew my brothers had been alive this whole time and that's clearly why I'd seen a change in her yesterday when I mentioned them.
"What have you been doing?"
"Making coffee, do you want some?" she asked holding out the coffee pot towards him and my glare intensified before I watched bemused as he rushes over her and started to strangle her forcing her eyes on him.
"Tell me what you've been doing" he compelled her.
"Making coffee" she choked out around his hands before he releases her and she turns but something still seemed off to me and I wasn't letting it go just yet.
"Test her Nik, I don't trust her" I spoke in an ancient langunge which Nik had taught me and really only we knew, it was exactly for this reason for us to communicate without anyone else understanding us.
"Wait, take off your bracelet" he quickly added she turned to him. "Now" Nik added so she had no choice and she turned towards him taking it off giving it to him. "I want you...to walk over to the window and stand in the sunlight"
"But I'll burn" she argued and I glared at her.
"You don't have a choice" he told her and she frowned turning around and walked towards the window standing directly in the sunlight and I watched with a smirk as her skins begins to burn and she starts screaming as Nik let her burn for a moment. "That's enough" he stated and she wasted no time using her vamp speed to get over to the corner of the room into the shadows hitting the wall and I laughed at her. "Guess I was wrong" I scoffed since something still felt off to me but maybe I was just still on edge after seeing Damon. "All right then, I need you to do something for me" he pulled out a phone and had her call someone related to the human doppelganger in order to enact our backup plan since we weren't stupid not to have a backup werewolf and vampire on standby.
We got our backup vampire, a woman who was the doppelgangers Aunt and Katherine led her out of the protection of their house where Klaus forced his blood down her throat and I smirked snapping her neck before we took her and our back up werewolf who we'd caught trying to chain herself down and so we took her and kept her waiting while she battled with the change as we headed to collect the doppelganger and I knew I would see my younger brother and I was mentally preparing myself for that.
"You can wait here if you want" Nik told me and I turned towards him before I frowned and nodded my head since I don't think I was ready to see Stefan just yet. "I'll be back shortly my love" he leaned over and pressed a kiss to my forehead then got out of the SUV and headed towards what was being called 'The Salvatore Boarding House' which was built after our home was destroyed.
I sat in wait unable to keep my thoughts from drifting to my brothers, my memories flooding my mind with near every moment I had with my brothers, the good and the bad all coming back to me like a floodgate opening and I felt the tears pooling in my eyes since I always thought my brothers would have my back, I'd cried over them on that road when I found them before I confronted Katherine knowing she had stroked a deal with George Lockwood to escape the councils plans, I cried over their bodies especially Damon, my twin...my other half and yet here they stood alive and they never looked for me.
I looked up when I heard Klaus come back throwing an unconscious girl into the back seat and I turned eyes widening in shock over the fact that she really did look exactly like Katherine, Nik and Elijah had told me that doppelgangers were exact copies but the resemblance was striking and if it wasn't for the human blood running through her veins I would have been fooled into thinking it was Katherine.
I turned to look out the front windscreen expecting Stefan to be chasing after him but Nik started driving where we met up with Greta and she took the doppelganger who Nik called Elena to the place in which the sacrifice would take place while we returned to the apartment letting ourselves right in again.
"Where's Maddox?" Nik demanded from Katherine as we walked in. "He should be back by now" I frowned since we hadn't heard from him in a while, I walked over and took a seat on the sofa crossing my leg over the other as Nik sat in one of the chairs suddenly pulling out his phone and when I heard the scream from it I knew he was watching the video feed of our backup werewolf.
"I don't know" Katherine replied and I shot a glare at her from where I sat. "What are you doing?" she went on and I rolled my eyes since honestly why did she even think we'd answer that. "Where's Elena?" she asked even though we didn't answer the last question.
"I sent her off with Greta" Nik replied and I turned to him rolling my eyes before I lifted my hand and started inspecting my nail beds, god I needed a manicure soon. "It's almost time" I heard Nik say right before the door burst open and a gust of wind could be heard. "I wasn't aware you'd been invited in" Nik spat leaning back in his seat while I looked up and for the second night my eyes locked with my twins.
"I've come here to tell you that you need to postpone the ritual" Damon stated boldly and I shook my head since seriously what was it with my brother and his stupidity today, it was worse than it was when we were human, was that his heightened trait...stupidity.
"Didn't we already have this conversation?" Nik asked looking up at me with a small smirk on his face.
"Yeah but that was before I rescued your werewolf and vampire and killed your witch" my head snapped up towards Damon.
"You killed Maddox?!" I exclaimed at him since I actually liked Maddox, he was better than Greta at least.
"Excuse me?!" Nik spat getting up facing Damon and even though I couldn't see his face I knew his anger voice anywhere to know the glare he was sending him.
"And you can kill me for it, I don't care...it was all me" I stared up at Damon before I stood since if anyone was killing him it was me.
"Katerina give us a moment" Nik said and Katherine did as she was told leaving the room and I sat on the armrest of the chair Nik had previously sat in watching as they stared each other off. "I've heard about you...the crazy, impulsive vampire, in love with his brothers girl" I frowned crossing my arms at that still sore that he had know my brothers had been alive and not told me but even more at the sentence that it seemed once again history was repeating itself between Damon and Stefan fighting over the same bloody girl...did they not learn from Katherine. "I knew one of you would try to stop me, it was just a 50-50 guess on who" Nik added walking towards me and he turned up the volume on the tablet which showed the werewolf we had in the midst of her change and Nik laughed as Damon's face fell at the sight.
"You know the nice thing about werewolves Damon" I spoke getting to my feet and walked towards my once twin brother but now was just a stranger. "Is that they tend to travel in packs" I smirked as I circled him with his eyes watching me round him before I headed back to Nik as he closed the tablet and undocked his phone from it and threw it towards Damon.
"Need a closer look?" Damon caught it and stared down at his phone taking in the scene it was showing.
"Jules" he smirked recognizing the woman.
"When you spend a thousand years trying to break a curse, you learn a thing or two, first rule...always have a backup, back-up werewolf, back-up witch-"
"Back-up vampire" Damon finished for Nik turning his eyes towards me and I rolled my eyes.
"It's not me Damon"
"I've got that covered too" Nik spat before he knocked him out and I smirked since he deserved that for being an idiot. "You go on down to the car luv, I'll be out in a second" Nik told me and I nodded kicking Damon's leg out of the way as I passed him and headed out the door down to his SUV before he met me getting in and started driving heading for the quarry where Nik would finally break his curse and I would be there by his side.
