(AN) Hello and welcome to my first ever Brooklyn Nine-Nine fanfiction. I hope you all enjoy and remember to Read and Review.

This story will focus on an idea that I've not seen anybody cover: what if Amy and the rest of the squad ended up meeting the 64 squad and Amy's first mentor. This story takes place during Season 6: between Cinco de Mayo and Sicko.

Disclaimer: I don't own Brooklyn Nine-Nine; all characters and locations are owned by NBC, Fremulon, Dr. Goor Productions and 3 Arts Entertainment.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Facing a Past Trauma

Chapter One

A Nasty Surprise

It started out as a typical day at the precinct. Over the past few weeks, the 99 squad had been dealing with a new street gang known as the Vultures; ironically The Vulture was not their boss, despite initial suspicion from Jake and Charles. The squad were currently having a meeting in the situation room.

"Before I get into the main part of this meeting, I would just like to congratulate everyone for their hard work in dealing with The Vultures," began Holt with his usual dry, emotionless voice, "Even if Peralta and Boyle decided straight away that THE Vulture was involved."

"It was just too much of a coincidence." argued Jake while smiling sheepishly.

"Indeed," replied Holt, "Back to business. Thanks to Sergeant Santiago, we now know where the Vultures base of operations is, so tomorrow, we will be joining up with the 64th precinct in order to take this gang down once and for all."

"Wait, did you just say the 64th precinct?" asked a surprised Amy.

"Yes, you heard correctly, Santiago," replied Holt, "They have also been investigating this gang, and when they discovered that we were also investigating, their captain contacted me last night and we agreed to team up."

"So, which squad do you like best?" asked Boyle jokingly.

"Now, now, I'm sure Amy has fond memories of the 64, but she did eventually transfer to the 99 because it no longer felt right for her," said Terry, not noticing Jake cringing at his remark, "But tell us, who's the best?"

"Well, I liked most of my time at the 64 and I still stay in touch with some of the old gang, but you guys are more like family." informed Amy.

Holt suddenly cleared his throat. "As I was about to say," he began as if he hadn't been interrupted, "Captain John Grimes and the rest of the 64 will be arriving here tomorrow."

At this, Amy spewed her coffee. "I-I'm sorry, sir, did you just say Captain John Grimes?" spluttered a surprised Amy.

"I did indeed," said a slightly miffed Holt before regaining his composure, "Yes, Grimes was very happy to hear that you're now a sergeant and is looking forward to seeing you again; was quite surprised when you left the 64."

"Was he now?" asked Amy, who felt as if she'd just walked into a nightmare, "I'll take it you know him then?"

"Yes, me and Grimes are old friends." replied a confused Holt, who thought Amy looked uncomfortable.

"Ohhh," replied Jake in a high pitched voice, "Coolcoolcoolcoolcoolcoolcoolcoolcoolcool."

"Is there something I should know about?" asked Holt, who was bewildered by the couple's behaviour.

"N-no, sir," replied Amy nervously, gripping her desk tightly, "I-if you'll excuse me, I need to go use the bathroom."

And without warning, Amy got up, raced over to the door and ran out.

"I-I need to use t-the bathroom as well," said Jake before springing to his feet and running over to the door, after opening it.

Holt and the others were at a loss for words as Jake slammed the door shut.

"Does anybody know what that was about?" asked Holt.

Everybody else just gave him the same confused expression.

Amy was sitting in the break room, trying to control her breathing. She was thinking back to that evening in 2009 when Captain John Grimes had invited her out to dinner to celebrate her promotion to detective, then she remembered how he had tried to kiss her because he thought he deserved it, which led to her transferring to the 99.

"Ames, are you okay?" asked a familiar voice.

Amy looked up and saw Jake looking at her in concern.

"No." answered Amy in a small voice.

Jake sat down next to her and gently squeezed her hand.

"God, that must've been a nasty shock, huh?" said Jake.

"I hoped that I would never have to hear that name again," muttered Amy, "I didn't even know he still worked there. Any time I spoke with anyone from the 64 we never discussed work, I wasn't really interested in asking about their captain or their cases."

"I think you need to tell Captain Holt," suggested Jake, "Because if you don't then I'm going to find it very hard to not punch that guy in the face."

"I can't just spring all of that on Captain Holt," retorted Amy, "What am I supposed to say? Oh by the way Captain Holt, your oldest friend is a sick pervert who tried to kiss me!"

"And his surname suits him so well," added Jake, which earned him a small smile from his wife, "So, what do we do?"

"The 64 squad will only be with us for a day, so I say we try to play nice," suggested Amy before seeing the baffled look on her husband's face, "I know, I know, but we'll just have to. Stopping the Vultures is more important right now and the rest of the 64 squad don't deserve to be punished for Grimes' actions. And, Jake, please try not to punch Grimes, as tempting and as sweet as that would be, I can handle him."

"Okay, if you're sure." said Jake, who didn't think this was a good idea, but he would respect his wife's wishes.

(AN) And that is the first chapter of Facing a Past Trauma. I hope you all enjoyed it, and remember to Read and Review.

The story idea came from rewatching the episode He Said She Said, and it would not leave me alone.

In the next chapter, we'll finally meet John Grimes and the rest of the 64, and Holt will start to suspect that something is troubling Jake and Amy.

Until then, this is TimeLordMaster108 signing out.
