I do not own Harry Potter, only the OC
Hello guys, Badger here. I'm back! I have finished moving. I don't have internet but I can use Mobile Data for post new stories for a few days. Today I have the first chapter for my new story, Osiris Rising, a Dark Harry Potter story. Now, to those who haven't read A different Hogwarts experience, it is not mandatory but my Harry Potter stories will contain an OC so if you want to know more about the character, I suggest reading that story first. Though you don't have too.
That is all I'll say for now. I'm sure fans of my previous story have been looking forward to a new story so read on, enjoy and I will see you at the end.
Chapter 1
Dumbledore stood shocked, when he saw where his tracking charms brought him. Ten years ago, he left Harry Potter with his Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia, after the attack on the Potters. It was the only safe for him to be at the time. When Voldemort attacked the Potters, he tried to kill Harry, but his spell rebounded and his killing curse destroyed him, making Harry the prophesied one, to defeat Voldemort should he return. Harry was relatively fine, unscathed save for a lightning bolt scar on his forehead. Luckily Dumbledore couldn't detect any dark magic lingering in the scar, so he could breathe easy, as Dumbledore feared Harry became an accidental Horcrux. But it was just a scar. When it came to delivering the letters for the new First Years, Dumbledore was confused as to why the owl delivering Harry's letter circled the castle for a few moments before entering his office again, confused. Deciding to deliver Harry's letter personally, Dumbledore used a tracking charm to find where Harry could be, but he never thought it would bring him here.
Wools Orphanage. The same place where Voldemort lived when he was Tom Riddle, a shy yet cruel boy. Dumbledore hoped he would never have to come here again. He wasn't sure why Harry was here, but he would need to go to the Dursleys and find out after his business here. Harry was supposed to be raised by his relatives. After changing his robes into a Muggle suit, Dumbledore stepped through the doors and it was the building was just as gloomy and foreboding as he remembered from when he first entered all those years ago. Shrugging off the chill he felt, Dumbledore walked to the front desk, where a middle aged woman with greying hair sat. Hearing his approach, the woman looked up and sat straighter.
"Hello sir, I'm Alice, can I help you?" She asked
"Greetings Miss Alice" Dumbledore smiled gently "I'm Professor Dumbledore, I was hoping if I could speak to Harry Potter"
"Harry Potter, are you sure?" Alice asked, her tone one of concern and worry
"Absolutely" Dumbledore nodded "you see I am a Headmaster to a private boarding school and I was hoping to offer him a place"
"Well…please follow me then" Alice said leaving her desk and leading him down one of the corridors
"What can you tell me about Mr Potter?" Dumbledore asked as they walked, hoping Harry wouldn't be like another Tom Riddle
"Well, he was left on our doorstep as a baby" Alice replied "I didn't start working here until he was five, I took over from the previous lady who worked here…Mr Potter liked to keep himself to himself most of the time…however there have been a few…oddities"
"What kind of oddities?" Dumbledore asked
"Well a while ago, a few older kids decided to pick on and bully Mr Potter as he doesn't really have any friends…but when they did, they were found in the basement, shivering and terrified, now they leave Mr Potter alone and seem scared whenever he enters a room…a few have also fallen I'll several times since then with many cases of bed wetting…whilst some believe Harry had something to do with it, there has been no evidence and the kids in question refused to answer any questions"
Dumbledore didn't like what he was hearing. This reminded him so much of Tom Riddle. Tormenting kids, inducing fear. Definitely seemed similar. Dumbledore could only hope he could stop Harry going down a similar route to Riddle. Another cause for concern was that Harry was left on the doorstep as a baby, meaning the Dursleys must have found him and immediately brought him here. He was going to have to find them and get answers.
"And what of the younger kids?" He asked
"He leaves them alone, most of the time" Alice shrugged "whenever he does interact with them, he's very kind and actually plays and spends time with them…I don't know if he likes them but he does seem fond of them"
Dumbledores eyes narrowed in thought after hearing what Alice told him. The two of them eventually came up to a door with the words KEEP OUT carved into the wood of the door. Something that didn't give Dumbledore any confidence.
"He should still be inside" Alice said "I'll leave you alone, he doesn't like people crowding his room…I'll be at my desk if you need me"
Dumbledore nodded, as she walked away. Placing a gentle hand on the handle, Dumbledore opened the door which slowly swung open with a soft creak. The room wasn't that big. There was a bed in the far corner with grey sheets, a desk against the opposite wall, which housed a few books. There was also a wardrobe which was a dark wood, similar to the floors. Sitting on a chair, looking out the window was who Dumbledore had come to see. Harry Potter. He was wearing a black button up shirt with black trousers, with shoes to match. He was spinning a small coin on the windowsill, with a flick of his finger. He hadn't turned when the door creaked open. He didn't seem to react at all.
"Mr Potter" Dumbledore said gently, stepping into the room, the floorboards squeaking softly "I am Professor Dumbledore, I have come to speak to you"
The coin stopped spinning on the windowsill, as Harry's fist enclosed around it, slamming down on the wooden frame. After a second or two, Harry turned to face Dumbledore. The boy wasn't what he was expecting. Dumbledore was expecting to see a skinny boy, with messy black hair with glasses, looking like James Potter, but with Lily's emerald eyes. Whilst the boy was indeed thin with green eyes and black hair, his hair wasn't messy and wild, it was smooth and straight, almost touching shoulders and was brushed over one side, some strands obstructing one eye, which he quickly removed with a small flick of his head, where Dumbledore could now see the lightning bolt scar on his forehead. Then there was his eyes. They may have been the same colour and shape as Lily's but they didn't have the warmth and kindness, Harry's eyes seemed cold and harsh. The boy also seemed quite tall for his age, though it was difficult to tell as he was sitting down.
"Do we know each other?" Harry asked, voice smooth, as he tilted his head to one side "because I have been here for about ten years and I've never had a visitor"
"No, we don't know each other" Dumbledore replied "not properly anyway…I have come to offer you a place in our school, Hogwarts, a school of magic…I know it may be difficult to believe in magic…"
"Oh, I believe in magic" Harry interrupted "I believe…I'm not normal…I know the things I do can't be done by the other kids here"
"Can you tell me some of these things you can do Harry?" Dumbledore asked
"I can make things move without touching them" Harry replied, leaning back in his seat, looking at the coin which he twirled in his hand "I can disappear in a one place and appear in another, I can cause things to happen and hurt people…if I want…I can also cause fear in others and they will refuse to turn the light off at night"
Dumbledore closed his eyes as he took a small breath to calm himself. This was similar to what Riddle had said when they first met. Things weren't looking good.
"I can talk to snakes too" Harry said suddenly
Dumbledore opened his eyes to see Harry had stopped twirling the coin in his hand and was now looking at him.
"I can talk to snakes and they understand and talk back to me, doing whatever I tell them" he said softly "tell me Professor Dumbledore…is that normal for someone like me?"
"No, but it can be normal to you, but it would be best if you keep that knowledge a secret" Dumbledore said "The teachers at Hogwarts teach all kinds of magic and will teach you to, not only learn magic, but control it…just like you parents were taught when they were your age"
"So you know of my parents?" Harry asked
"Yes, the two of them were gifted students" Dumbledore smiled sadly "they were killed by a Dark Wizard ten years ago, but I do know they have given you a vault full of enough gold to get you through all 7 years at Hogwarts"
Harry was silent for a moment. Dumbledore could tell the boy was thinking about what he had been told so waited patiently for Harry to process a response.
"This Dark Wizard…" He said, after a few minutes "Was he defeated?"
"Alas no" Dumbledore sighed "we let the public believe that, but his body was destroyed but his spirit lives as a wraith, I believe he may try to find a new body and rise to power once more and I have reasons to believe he will come after you, reasons I cannot inform you of, just yet"
Harry was silent again, seemingly in thought, as his eyes narrowed. His head tilted once more, as he looked at Dumbledore with a calculative look. It was a few minutes until he spoke.
"In that case, I will attend this school of yours" He said
"Excellent" Dumbledore beamed "One of my colleagues will be here in the next few days to take you to Diagon Alley, so you can collect your school supplies"
"I don't need a teacher to take me anywhere" Harry said coldly "I can get my supplies on my own"
"But you do not know where the Alley is" Dumbledore pointed out
"It's best if you don't assume" Harry replied, his eyes narrowing "I will buy my supplies on my own, I'm not that trusting and I don't trust someone I've never met to help me with buying school supplies"
"Fair enough Harry" Dumbledore said, preparing to leave "term starts on the 1st of September, one of my colleagues will be here to take you where you need to go"
Harry said nothing, he just nodded in response, eyes narrowing slightly. Seeing that Harry had nothing else to say, Dumbledore bade Harry farewell before leaving the room, closing the door behind him. As he left the orphanage, Dumbledore took a few breathes to calm himself down. After meeting Harry, he wasn't quite sure what to think. The boys tone and demeanour was too similar to Riddle at times. Hopefully when Harry's in Hogwarts, he'll be able to turn Harry into the hero the Wizards World will need when the Tim came. He could only hope it wasn't too late.
…
Harry watched, from his window, as Dumbledore left the orphanage. A cruel, cold smile made its way onto his face, as the old man disappeared from view. His mother was right. Scaring Dumbledore was fun. The old man hid it well, but Harry could see the fear in his eyes. It was obvious Harry reminded him of a young Tom Riddle. Mother will be proud when he informs her of his success. Dumbledore wanted a hero for the Wizarding World? Well, Harry has his own plans.
…
It wasn't long until Harry found himself at Kings Cross Station. Mother was indeed proud of how Harry handled the situation in Wools Orphanage. She was looking forward to what Harry got up to in Hogwarts. After his mother gave him the location of Diagon Alley, he immediately went to Gringotts and removed some gold to purchase his supplies. The Goblins were less then happy, when they found out he didn't have his vault key and that it was in someone else's possession. Neither was Harry. He didn't like people keeping his possessions without his knowledge. Getting his supplies was fairly uneventful, until he went to get his wand;
The wand store had a slight musky smell to it. A smell Harry couldn't quite pinpoint. Harry had only been in the store for a few seconds before an elderly man appeared. A man Harry guessed to be Ollivander. The wand maker smiled when he saw him.
"I wondered when I will be seeing you here Mr Potter" he said, measuring Harry's height and arms before running a hand over some boxes "it seems only yesterday your mother and father were in my store getting their first wands"
For the next twenty minutes the wand maker gave Harry different wands to try out, each one reacting negatively to his magic. At one point Ollivander handed Harry a wand, 11 inches made from Holly wood with a Phoenix Feather core. When Harry tested it, the wand burst into flames, destroying the wand. After a while Ollivander took wands out from his "rare" collection. He had tried a few wands before he pulled out a wand from an ominous black box.
"Try this" Ollivander said, handing it to him "10 inches, made from Hornbeam Wood, with a core made from the horn of a Horned Serpent, a powerful wand, a wand that adapts easily to its owner"
The wand was made from a dark brown wood, with a few bumps and ridges across the shaft and handle. The wood at the end of the handle seemed to wrap around a dark red gem, or crystal, which was embedded in the wood itself. Harry took the wand where, as soon as the wand touched his skin, it made all the lights and candles in the store shine brightly before going out. The wand was a perfect match. Something that intrigued Ollivander.
Harry smirked slightly at the memory, fondling the wand slightly in his pocket, enjoying the feeling of the magic that ran through the wood. He kept his hood up, as he walked through Kings Cross, as he didn't want to be recognised. Using his hood as cover, whilst he approached the barrier, he looked out and spied on those who were also magical. There was one that filled him with disgust. A young girl, with big bushy hair, was talking enthusiastically, and loudly, to her parents about magic and lessons she was looking forward to, a few Muggles turning in confusion. No doubt the girl was a Muggleborn, but dear Merlin, it's called Statute of Secrecy for a reason!
As Harry approached the barrier he saw a group of red heads walking along the platform. The mother was also talking loudly, about muggles and the platform. A little too loudly. He watched, remaining out of sight, as she asked where the barrier to the platform was whilst looking around, as if looking for someone who was not part of their group. Once again, a small smile made its way onto Harry's face.
"Nice move Dumbledore" He muttered "Very nice move…however, I'm way ahead of you"
Seeing as Harry left before Dumbledores colleague arrived to take him to the Platform, the old man must have asked someone to look for him on the platform, should he happen to be there. When the group of red heads went through the barrier, Harry waited a few minutes before going through himself, before his gaze focused on the bright Crimson of the train. A Crimson so bright, it was giving Harry a headache. Making sure his hood was still up, he boarded the train, walking past the family of red heads as he did so.
…
It wasn't long until the train pulled away from the station. Harry chose to sit alone in an empty compartment, looking out at the scenery around him. As the train continued along the tracks, coming across some fields, a snowy owl appeared, flying alongside his window. Smiling, Harry opened it, allowing the owl to fly in. The beautiful snowy owl was one Harry had purchased in Diagon Alley. There were several owls he could have chosen, but according to the owner the snowy owl was oddly intelligent and would be aggressive to anyone except it's owner. Naturally Harry purchased it immediately and named her Hedwig. He had allowed her to go hunting whilst he boarded the train and was glad to see her back. As Harry put her back into her cage, something Hedwig didn't seem happy about, he heard voices outside of his compartment.
"Every where else seems to be full" A female voice said "we might as well head back…"
"I'm not sitting in the same compartment as my brother" another female interrupted "it's already bad enough that I have to live with him, let alone go to school with him"
"Girls, calm down" a male voice spoke up "look there is only one other person in here, let's ask them, if we can sit down"
Harry didn't pay much attention to the voices, until someone knocked on his door, where he saw a boy and two girls standing there. The boy opened the compartment door slowly, so he could speak.
"Excuse me" he said "is it okay if we sit here…everywhere else is full and the company in our previous compartment isn't that pleasant"
"Of course you can sit down, as you were thoughtful enough to knock instead of barging in" Harry said smoothly "you can't stand there for the rest of the journey"
The boy gave his thanks and the trio entered the compartment. The boy was fairly tall with dark skin, brown eyes and short black hair. His posture told Harry he was well mannered and well kept and someone who won't lose their temper easily. Then there was the two girls. One of them had long, smooth, platinum blonde hair which framed a thin, pale face, with steel grey eyes, where Harry could see a desire to fit in. Something that could be useful in the future. Finally there was the second girl. She was the shortest of the group, but Harry could tell she was someone you wanted to keep on your good side, for she has quite a fiery temper. The girl has light skin with brown eyes and dark hair, currently styled into a short bob cut. As Harry looked at the three, he wondered if they would be useful to him. He's have to wait and see where their loyalties lie.
"I'm Blaise Zabini" the boy said before gesturing to the two girls "the girl with the blonde hair is Arianna Malfoy and the girl with the short hair is Pansy Parkinson"
"A pleasure to meet you" Harry replied, leaning back in his seat "I'm Harry Potter, but you can just call me Harry"
Harry had to stop himself from laughing when he saw the looks of shock and awe appear on their faces. His mother had told him the story of the Boy-Who-Lived years ago, but seeing peoples reactions to him was hilarious. Blaise looked at him sceptically for a second, before a gentle breeze from the, still, open window brushed Harry's hair aside, revealing the scar.
"Dear Merlin, you ARE him!" Blaise exclaimed "you're the The Boy-Who-Lived!"
"Apparently" Harry smiled
"Are any of those books written about you true?" Arianna asked
"I've not read any of them personally, but I imagine they are all lies" Harry shrugged, he was less then amused when he found out "But I'd rather not go into the full details of my life"
"Why, have something to hide Potter?" Pansy asked, smirking
"No, I don't know if I can trust you just yet" Harry replied, which the others could understand "But tell me, why was your previous compartment 'unpleasant'"
"My brother" Arianna spat "He's called Draco, he's a Pureblood's Supremacist, constantly spouting Pureblood's Propaganda and racist opinions on anything that isn't a Pureblooded Witch or Wizard"
"And I'm guessing you there don't share the same opinion?" Harry asked, internally smiling, as the three seemed to be likely friends who would soon become loyal followers if things go well.
"No" Blaise sighed "We may be Pureblood's but we don't believe in Pureblood's Supremacy…You-Know-Who certainly tainted the Wizarding World long enough to leave a stain…even after his death"
"Hmm" Harry hummed, deciding not to comment as he leaned forward in his seat "would you three be interested in being friends?"
…
The rest of the journey was rather uneventful. Blaise, Arianna and Pansy were surprised when Harry asked if they were interested in being friends, but quickly got over their shock before they agreed to bring friends with a gentle smile. When they were close to their destination, the four of them got dressed in their school robes, with Harry and Blaise giving the two girls some privacy, which they appreciated. By the time the train arrived, the sun had set and it was now dark out. The group were met by a large half giant, called Harris, who led them to some boats, which he told them to board. Being careful and making sure they didn't rock the boat and fall in, the new students looked in awe at the sight of the castle before them. Harry, meanwhile, smirked as he thought about the next seven years. Dumbledore won't know what's hit him until it's too late.
Before long Hagrid took them up to the castle where he handed them over to a stern looking woman, who introduced herself as Professor McGonagall. She went on about how House Points work and the different Houses but Harry didn't pay much attention to what she had to say. McGonagall then lead them into the Great Hall, towards a stool which held a large pointed hat. One at a time, McGonagall called up students to get sorted. Harry, again payed no attention to the first few students, until she came up to:
"James Badger!"
Blaise was confused as to why Harry stood up straighter as James Badger, a tall boy with hazel eyes and short purple hair, stepped up to the stool. Blaise just shrugged it off, assuming Harry knew that the Badgers were very influential and respected in the Wizarding World. However, Blaise didn't notice the smirk on Harry's face when the hat yelled Slytherin, where James gave Harry a discreet wink as he walked to the Slytherin Table. Harry was starting to get bored as he waited. Arianna ended up in Slytherin, along with her brother Draco, who walked with pompous arrogance. Pansy also went to Slytherin where, after a while, McGonagall called out.
"Harry Potter!"
Whispers were heard across the hall as Harry elegantly made his way towards the stool. Sitting down, Harry allowed the hat to be placed on his head, where he heard a voice in his mind.
"My, my what an interesting mind you have Mr Potter" The hat said, telepathically "And do not worry yourself Mr Potter, I will not tell anyone about you, I am placed under oath to never speak to anyone about what I see in any students mind, my job is to sort…now, I must say it's difficult to decide where to sort you…Hufflepuff seems like the least likely, but if you were sorted there, you'd have a loyal and devoted army before Christmas…a similar situation with Gryffindor, it's unlikely, but it will help you keep up appearances, but you will also receive a loyal army within the year…then there is Ravenclaw…a place where you will find all sorts of Knowledge…the students may not be as easy to sway but will become devoted to you"
"And what about Slytherin?" Harry asked
"Slytherin" The hat sighed "Slytherin…I won't lie Mr Potter…I believe you do well in Slytherin…you will find power and greatness, however I am hesitant, for the students there are children of Death Eaters, followers of the man who named himself Voldemort, it may be difficult for you there…but, I can see into your mind and the only House I can place you is in…SLYTHERIN!"
…
Professor Snape watched from the Teachers Table as Harry walked towards the Slytherin Table. For the past ten years, Snape has been dreading the spawn of James Potter arriving at Hogwarts. However, the boy wasn't what he was expecting. He walked with an elegant grace, no hint of arrogance and he could see cruelty and a hint of insanity in the boys eyes. Snape would have to keep a closer eye on the boy.
…
Dumbledore held his breath as he watched Harry walk to the Slytherin Table. He hoped Harry would go to Gryffindor, Ravenclaw or even Hufflepuff. But fate had other ideas. He would need to make sure the boy doesn't fall down a darker path. At least he was in the castle. He had been worried when McGonagall went to the Orphanage and she told him that Harry wasn't there. And McGonagall was already mad at Dumbledore when he told her everything. And then Molly Weasley told him she couldn't find Harry on the platform. Now though, as Harry was here, he could start finding people to influence Harry and keep him on the right path.
…
After dinner, Harry found himself in the Slytherin Common Room, with the rest of the First Years, the older years doing their own thing and going about their business.
"Potter!" A rough voice said, where Marcus Flint approached "I don't know how a pathetic Half Blood like you got into Slytherin, but I will make sure you are put in your place and…"
Marcus was cut off, as his knees were shattered and he yelled out in agony, falling to the ground, tears pricking the corners of his eyes. He looked up to see Harry looking down at him, an emotionless mask on his face, his wand in hand. Everyone else in the room looked at Harry in fear, except for one who approached Harry, a Prefect badge on his robes. The boy removed his wand, but also fell to the ground, his own knees shattered.
"H-How did you do that?" A Third Year asked Harry "you weren't pointing your wand at him"
"Because it wasn't Harry" A voice said
Everyone looked up to see James Badger sitting on top of a bookshelf, twirling his wand in his hand. How he got up there no one knew. Smirking, James jumped off the bookshelf, landing gracefully on the ground.
"It was me" he finished with glee
"It's about time you showed up" Harry drawled "where were you on the train?"
"Hidden away, keeping to myself" James shrugged "Thought it was best if we keep apart until after the Sorting…keeping up appearances, shall we say"
Harry smiled, though that smile turned into a sneer, as he looked down at Marcus and the other boy, who were dragging themselves away, with everyone else standing there, unsure on what to do.
"I must admit, I'm disappointed" Harry tutted "I was led to believe that Slytherin House is the House of the Cunning and Ambitious…a House that lurks in the shadows, gaining any information they can, before choosing the right moment to strike…but, the first thing that happens when I step foot in the Common Room is someone hoping to intimidate me, with another charging in, wand ready, like the stereotypical Gryffindor, just because I'm a 'pathetic Half Blood'…disappointed indeed…usually I'm not that kind, but I'll be generous for you two…"
Harry flicked his wand and the boys' legs were healed, like nothing had happened.
"I hope this doesn't happen again" Harry said "but if it does, I suggest you try harder"
With nothing else to say, Harry walked towards Blaise, Arianna and Pansy, who would have backed away, but was in front of the crowd and couldn't push through.
"My friends, sorry you had to see that" He said "I hope to see you at breakfast"
Giving them a small bow, Harry and James walked off, choosing the largest dorm room they could find. Everyone else just watched them, not knowing the changes that were soon to follow.
…
Boy, that was a long first chapter.
From now on, I am going to try and write longer chapters as the chapters in my previous story were on the shorter side.
Anyway, what did you think? I love reading Dark Harry stories, though those stories where Harry is an all powerful immortal Dark Lord puts me off. If you are worried about that, don't worry. Harry won't be an almighty immortal person. He will be a character that gets stronger and stronger as the story goes on, and there will be fights he may lose or have to escape from. Like any other person, he will have flaws.
There is one question I want you to give your theories and answers too: Who is the woman Harry refers too as "Mother". Mother is mentioned quite a bit in this chapter. Leave your theories as to who you think it is in the review section.
I will be alternating between several stories at once so if you want, follow my profile, that way you know when a new story is published or updated.
That is all for now I hope you enjoyed and I will see you next time.
