[A Separate Peace] Sometimes, it's hard to figure out what's real and what's not - and, sometimes, it's even harder to convince yourself of the truth. Very short.

A/N: I wrote this for oneword(dot)com; look me up there (word: animal) if you want to see this in its original, un-italicized, un-capitalized glory.
Anyway.
This is told from Gene's point of view and takes place when he believes that Finny is trying to sabotage his academic success. It's also incredibly short – I wrote it in literally one minute; c'mon!

Lose Control

There's something animalistic about his thoughts and his competitions and can he really trust anyone, really? he wonders. Can he really trust Finny and Leper and everyone else? And he doesn't want to admit to himself that, truly, he can't. Because people are like monsters and trust is like death and safety is everything, no matter what.
And even if history repeats itself a thousand times over, it will always end the same.
