Author's Note: Oh hey, a second chapter for this story. I wasn't ever planning to write more in this timeline, but I was inspired and Himiko is so much fun to write I just had to. Wrote it all in about a day.
My Hero Academia: Whatever Happened to Toga Himiko?
Chapter 2: A Day in the Life of Uraraka Kotarou
Every day that Ochako left the house it was with a kiss on Himiko's cheek and the order to not get into or cause any trouble. It had long ago become an affectionate joke between the couple. She would reply, "as you wish" and the joke would become a vow. The morning felt empty without it. Himiko would never imagine breaking her vow.
Himiko might be under a form of witness protection living as Uraraka Kotarou, husband to Uraraka Ochako and regular dude, but her freedom wasn't restricted beyond being careful with her identity. This morning, after exchanging their vow, Himiko took stock of their kitchen. She found it lacking in supplies and knew she'd need to take a trip to the store. She quickly sent a text to Ochako informing her she was doing so. This was a formality, not something she had to do. Ochako trusted her and knew she wouldn't get in trouble. Himiko did it because it was something a happy couple did, and she loved being a happy couple. Even after thirty years every moment felt just as fresh. It was intoxicating.
Getting dressed for HImiko meant taking off her prosthetic leg and transforming into Uraraka Kotarou. This form was a combination of various loved ones whose forms her body had memorized through consuming their blood. The body was primarily that of Jin, while the eyes were Stain and Izuku. The hair was all from Tsu. Their features blended slightly in other ways, to disguise any noticeable features of a deceased member of the League of Villains. She would be completely unrecognizable to anyone as Jin, instead a new person born of her love for the most special people in her life. Despite the unimaginable pain and degradation she'd suffered through in the experiments that had enhanced her Quirk, being like this every day had made it worth it.
Once dressed as Kotarou, she exited the house and started to walk to the store, appreciating the pleasant weather. She knew everyone in the neighborhood and called out to them as he passed. Every greeting was returned with a bright smile and Himiko had to resist the urge to start skipping. A few blocks down she saw an elderly woman struggling with a heavy package at her front door and helped her carry it inside her home. Her thanks rang in her ears as she continued her shopping trip.
As a top tier pro hero Ochako made more than enough money to support both of them and her parents without issue. Uravity merchandise sales had made sure of that. Many years past were the nights either of them had had to spend rationing money and resisting to buy the things they wanted. Not that either of them was reckless with money, just that they could afford to splurge every so often. So, as she drifted casually through the grocery store Himiko allowed her eyes to wander over every tempting item, considering each in turn. She knew that to anyone watching her it would seem like she was completely absorbed in the task of shopping.
She let the person following her believe that impression. They did a very good job hiding themselves after all, and it would be rude to just reveal she was on to them. Not sportsman like at all. They were almost completely invisible and had smooth movements while dodging the other shoppers. Their focus seemed to be completely on her, even when she made sure her path was purposely circuitous and difficult. It was admirable.
She tested her new shadow by studying the different cuts of meat for a while, but they didn't approach, instead keeping a respectful distance. She took out her wallet as if to check out how much money she had, then returned it to her back pocket. She then chose the most expensive cut of meat she could find, careful to flash the price tag over her shoulder to the shadow and then put it in her basket. As she moved on that's when the shadow started to close the distance. She couldn't help smiling. This was the most fun and excitement she'd had in a while. It was time for another test. Would the shadow bite?
Himiko very casually bumped into another shopper. She'd chosen a large man, so neither of them suffered much by it, but it did draw a scowl from the man. "I'm so sorry," lied Himiko. "I was too focused on my shopping list. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," said the man. "Just watch where you're going, okay?"
"Of course," replied Himiko, feeling the subtle pull of her wallet disappearing. "I'm sorry for inconveniencing you. Have a good day."
She continued on her merry way, the shadow quickly leaving the store. After a few minutes head start, she abandoned the basket in a corner and left the store. It's not like she could buy groceries without her wallet after all. Outside of the store she sniffed the air and casually walked around the corner. She could smell the blood she'd smeared on the wallet. Her shadow hadn't gone far, and she could now see them sitting against the back wall, rifling through her wallet. The culprit was a kid, no more than thirteen years old, and had been transformed by her Quirk. She was covered completely in green scales, large expressive eyes on the side of her head and a tail that curled behind her. A chameleon. She'd thought so but seeing her in person caused her heart to tighten for a moment. Familiar memories of a friend long lost flashed through her mind.
"See anything you like?" asked Himiko. The girl had been too absorbed in checking the wallet and jumped up when she realized Himiko was right next to her. Not that paying attention would've helped. Even all these years out of her prime, if Himiko didn't want to be noticed, then she couldn't be. She was way out of this kid's league. As the kid stood, Himiko grabbed her wrist as if to restrain her. But she wasn't too forceful about it. "I think that belongs to me."
"How the hell did you find me, old man?" asked the girl, glaring at her.
"Luck," lied Himiko. "My wife would get pretty annoyed at me if I lost that wallet."
"It's mine now fucker," said the girl, yanking free of Himiko's grip and taking a few steps back.
"That's no way for a young girl to talk," said Himiko. Ochako would probably chide her for teasing the girl this much, but she couldn't help it. It was who she was underneath it all. She held out her hand. "Could I have that back please?"
The only response was a rude hand gesture and disappearing from sight. Himiko could hear the frantic slapping of her feet on the pavement as she bolted from that spot. She counted to thirty, giving the girl plenty of time to zig zag away from her. While she waited, she licked the small dot of blood oozing out of the prick on her finger. The taste of blood on her tongue, she took a good long sniff of the crisp fall air and took off in pursuit.
Despite being in her fifties, Himiko's Quirk and her specific chosen doners had gifted her with body that could give an Olympic athlete without a physical enhancement Quirk a run for their money. She wasn't as swift, but she still had some of Tsu's frogginess, and that meant she could leap and run with the best of them. This time the girl had chosen an alley several blocks down to hide in. Himiko was impressed that the girl wasn't out of breath yet. She was putting up a good attempt. She decided to say as much.
"You're a good runner," said Himiko. The girl looked around frantically for her. "Up here." The girl looked up to the fire escape that Himiko had perched herself on. She smiled and waved and the girl. "Have you ever thought about taking up track? I think you could do well. If you return that wallet, I'll vouch for you."
"Who the hell are you?" asked the girl, her voice shaking.
Himiko jumped down from the fire escape and landed a short distance from the girl. A perfect, soft landing. Not bad for an old man. "Just a house husband who was distracted from his errands by an interesting kid. You can call me Kotarou. I've never been one for formalities. What's your name?"
"Get lost!" the girl said, throwing the wallet at Himiko's head. She grabbed it deftly out of the air as the girl disappeared again.
"Now, that was rude," said Himiko. She checked the wallet and saw that everything was still inside. Including the small stack of bandages, she kept inside. She removed one and put it over the small prick she'd made on her thumb. Himiko could get back to her shopping if she wanted. But her heart still pounded with excitement, and she could smell the smear of blood she'd left on the thief's arm. Maybe she could indulge herself a little longer?
Himiko continued her pursuit, leisurely following her little pickpocket through the streets into the heart of the city. She admired the girl for choosing a place decently far from where she lived to steal. She clearly had talent; she just needed a little seasoning. As she strolled through the streets, she mocked out a conversation with Ochako.
"How was your day?" asked Himiko as Ochako entered the house.
"Boring. Nothing to really talk about," replied Ochako, hanging up her coat. "How about you?"
"Pretty exciting actually," said Himiko. She imagined the suspicious glare Ochako would give her and held up her hands defensively. "Oh, nothing to worry about. No one bled." She then muttered under her breath. "Except me…"
"You what?" asked Ochako, getting dangerously close. Himiko imagined herself imagining kissing Ochako right there.
"It was just to teach a pickpocket a lesson. You're the one always telling me to set a good example for the youth."
"That's true," admitted Ochako. "But I'm concerned when you throw my own words back at me. How exactly did you 'set a good example'?"
"Well," started imaginary Himiko before she had to terminate her daydream to note a change in her surroundings. The scent had stopped moving. She looked around and noted that the scent went into a bar hidden between two other shops. How nostalgic. From the front was just one entrance and no windows. She continued walking, casually casing the place. There was a back entrance, locked, of course. She didn't have a lockpicking set on her, so she considered her options. She activated her Quirk and changed Kotarou's body chemistry a bit.
She put her hand on the knob and watched as it disintegrated. Shigaraki's Quirk wasn't one she'd used in thirty years, but she was happy to have access to it still. Her feelings about her former leader were complicated, but it was nice to know he was still there for her. She used a lot more restraint than he ever allowed himself though and only took out the knob and its internal locking mechanism. That allowed the door to just swing open. Easily fixable damage. Changing her body again so that she didn't use the dangerous Quirk on accident, Himiko then entered the establishment.
Himiko found herself in a kitchen that wasn't yet active for the day. Maybe in a few hours the stove would be fired up to make appetizers for hungry customers. She glanced around and noted that the place was properly stocked and cleaned. Supplies had been recently dropped off, but not all yet put away. A large bag of flour sat on the counter ready to make tasty fried snacks. That told her it was probably an active bar and not just a front. Interesting. What was a simple teenage pickpocket doing in a place like this?
Continuing her search Himiko peered carefully out of the window on the kitchen door and saw her pickpocket panting, laying on a couch. She looked exhausted. Poor girl had been putting all her effort to escape. It was going to be really funny when she popped out of hiding to reveal she'd followed the girl. That should scare her onto the straight narrow.
"You back already?" asked a gruff voice. Himiko noted some large, suited thug walking down a staircase just off to the side of the bar. "How was the haul?"
"I didn't go out today," said the girl. She quickly pulled herself together, stood and tried to look unwavering and steady in front of the man. Unfortunately, she wasn't fooling either witness.
"Then what's with the panting?" asked the thug, a smile curling his libs. Dude was built like a brick shithouse.
"I went for a jog."
"A jog," repeated the man.
"A jog."
"Must've been one hell of a jog," replied the man. Himiko saw it coming, but the tired girl wasn't able to dodge as the man's fist struck her stomach and sent her to the floor. "Even if I believed that, you were meant to grab some money. We've got a quota after all. The boss lets you stay here, and you grab money. That's the deal."
"I make way more money than this shithole costs to live in," replied the girl, showing remarkable sturdiness as she managed a response from the floor. "I can take a day off."
"Only the boss gets to decide," replied the thug. He cracked his knuckles.
Himiko realized that things were about to get messy. The thug wasn't holding himself in a way that indicated he was just going to walk away. And it's not like the girl telling the truth, that a strange old dude had chased her, would earn her any favors. It would probably make things worse.
"What's the commotion down there?" asked a deep voice.
"Camo came back empty handed," yelled the thug.
"Hold her there, Brick," said the voice. Himiko heard someone start descending the stairs. "I'd like to have a chat with the girl."
The girl, Camo, disappeared. Brick frowned and kicked out. There was a cry of pain and Camo turned visible again as she tumbled across the floor. "Don't even think about it," said Brick. "You know that you can't run from me."
"We got a runner?" asked the deep voice. An older man walked into view from the stairs. His only notable feature was a scar on his cheek.
"Not while I'm around," said Brick. "Sorry you need to deal with this, Boss."
"No need to apologize," said the Boss. He knelt by Camo and put a large hand on her head, yanking her up to look him in the eye. "I haven't been hearing good things from down here. Is it true that you failed to get anything today?"
"I just wasn't feeling like it," replied Camo. "I can take a break."
A laugh. "No, you can't. It's not like anyone will take in someone like you. We both know your father will never talk to you again since you're the child of an affair. And your poor mother is six feet under. Do you remember who the only people at the funeral were?"
Camo tried to avert her gaze, but the boss had her head held tightly. "Me and you…"
"Damn right," said the boss. Himiko noted a second thug walk into place next to Brick. This one was a large shark man, complete with sharp teeth, blue skin, fin on his back and a tail. The situation was just getting better and better. "No one is going to adopt a teenage, mutated freak like you either. I'm all you got, so you'd better have a good reason for why you're empty handed."
There was silence as Camo didn't respond. The boss smiled, then slammed Camo's head into the floor. Himiko had seen enough. She considered her options. Three tough looking guys, only one whose Quirk she had an idea of. As Kotarou she figured she could take them down, but she was supposed to be a normal person. If it got out that he'd taken out a gang, that would be a big red flag. She knew her goal should be to allow Camo to escape, but Himiko knew what it was like to have nowhere to run to. She'd end up back here one way or another. That meant taking the boss and his boys out of the equation.
She considered who she could transform into. Stain and or any of her former League of Villain allies appearing in a headline would cause way too much of a stir. For a similar reason she couldn't show Toga Himiko's face either. She couldn't use Izuku's Quirk, so that meant appearing as either Tsu or Ochako. "She's going to be so mad at me," said Himiko under her breath as she started to transform.
"Last chance to tell me why you came back empty handed," said the boss. "I promise I'll be nice if you just speak up."
Himiko knelt and put her hands on the floor. No one knew the powers and techniques of Uravity better than she did. She'd helped develop many of Ochako's abilities, most often by fighting her as a Villain. That also meant she knew how to replicate her partner's abilities just as well. She activated her Quirk and felt it spread from the point on the floor to the entire building. Himiko felt pride at how much her Ochako had grown since that first fight they'd had in the forest. Love filled her heart as she stood and busted her way from the kitchen into the main room of the bar.
It only took Himiko a moment to take in the situation. All four people in the room had started to float off the ground, looks of surprise on all their faces. Himiko leapt towards where the boss was still holding onto Camo. As she did, she removed her gravity to help propel herself. She moved like a bullet and kicked out, striking the boss right in the face. In his surprise he let go of Camo and went flying to hit the wall and bounce off it. Himiko then grabbed Camo and returned both their gravities. She helped the disoriented teen land on her feet, helping keep her propped up.
"Don't worry," said Himiko, imitating Uravity's most confident tone. "You're safe now."
Camo looked up at her, her face bloody and her expression on of surprise and hope. "Who are you?"
"Good question," replied Himiko. She felt herself getting lightheaded. "I'm a name known through every household. The hope of the lost and the destitute. A rescue hero like no other." She released her Quirk and she felt relief as her body stopped fighting the strain. She was impressed that all three men managed to land on their feet. "Is that enough clues?"
"Uravity," said the boss, his nose bleeding. "What the hell is the Zero Gravity Hero doing in my bar?"
"I go wherever there's someone in trouble," said Himiko. "And a villain beating on a girl counts. You going to go quietly?"
"Boss?" asked Brick, looking uncertainly over his shoulder at the old man.
The boss scowled. "Don't let either of them leave."
Brick smiled at the clear instructions, cracking his knuckles as he started to approach Himiko. "You made a mistake coming here, hero."
"We should run," said Camo, now very much the scared teenager she was. "I don't know heroes well, but you don't seem like one who can beat them."
"What makes you think that?" asked Himiko, honestly impressed by the fear this old man inspired in people.
"The boss was a powerful member of the League of Villains," said Camo.
"Yeah," said the shark man, also approaching. "The only member to make it out while everyone else croaked. That makes him the best of the best."
"Wait, what?" asked Himiko, letting the mask of Uravity slip for a moment. She looked at each of the thugs, then squinted at the boss. Then she shrugged. "I have no clue who you are, but you're definitely not a member of the League of Villains."
"He wasn't?" asked Camo.
"Of course he was," said Brick, looking offended. "He's the famous Villain Twice."
Himiko felt something inside her snap. "What the hell did you just say?" All three men in front of her took involuntary steps back from her. "Say that again."
The boss gathered his courage and pointed at Himiko. "I am the great Twice, masked villain of the League of Villains. A hero like you will never be able to beat me!"
Himiko cracked her knuckles. She flashed a quick smile to Camo. "Please stand back. This will be over quickly." She briefly noted the fear on the girl's face but was already turning her attention back to the villains. "I was going to let you off easy if you let us go. But if you dare lie about being a member of the League of Villains, that is a sin I will not forgive."
Himiko and Brick charged each other, the thug going for a right hook. Himiko ducked under the hook and made an open palm strike to his chest. As she hit, she activated Ochako's Quirk and the otherwise minor hit sent the now weightless man flying across the room to strike the wall. She disabled the Quirk and prepared to engage with the shark man. He'd ripped off his shirt and was naked from the waist up. He did a simple punch and on instinct Himiko grabbed him to use his weight against him and flip him to the floor. Unfortunately for her, she'd just grabbed onto a shark. His sandpaper skin ripped through her gloves and took a few layers of skin off her hands before she managed to pull away.
Shark man continued punching at her and she found herself unable to block, only able to keep dodging. It wasn't a good situation for her to be in and she looked around for something to use. Brick was shaking himself back to consciousness, so she needed to more quickly. She locked onto a new target and when shark man punched at her she rolled underneath his punch to get behind him. He reacted quickly and struck out with a back kick. She leaned away from it and then flipped away from his follow-up punch.
That maneuver positioned Himiko behind the couch. As she'd flipped over it, she'd touched the couch and removed its gravity. Once it had floated up a foot she kicked out and pushed the floating coach at shark man. It might be weightless, but it wasn't massless. The heavy couch struck the shark man and bowled him over to land on his back. The couch continued its momentum and hit Brick. He struck the wall again, his eyes rolling into the back of his head. Himiko returned the gravity of the couch and trapped the unconscious thug between the couch and wall.
There was no time to waste as shark man started to recover. She grabbed his leg, removed his gravity, and swung him around in a circle a few times. Then she released him and returned his gravity as he flew up to the room on the second floor that he'd previously descended from. Himiko didn't know what was up there, but she heard a shattering sound. Whatever it was, it sounded expensive.
Himiko turned to Camo who had taken refuge in the kitchen doorway and gave her the brightest smile Ochako had. "There we go," she said. "All safe now."
The girl's expression changed from wide eye wonder to bright hopefulness, but then turned to fear. "Look out!" she cried.
Himiko quickly wheeled around and easily blocked the cane sword that the boss was swinging at her. She was about to counter with a gut punch, but then there was a scream from Camo, and she realized she was a second person in her blind spot. She barely managed to roll out of the way as a second cane sword cut a gash in her shoulder.
"How do you like that?" asked the boss, his voice in stereo. As Himiko came to her feet she realized she was now facing down two identical old men. "This is the true power of the infamous Twice. One hero could never stand up to me."
Himiko clenched her fists tightly and if she hadn't been wearing gloves her nails probably would've drawn blood. "I'm going to make you regret lying like that," replied Himiko.
"Who are you to call me a liar?"
"I was there when Twice was killed," said Himiko, her voice cold. "As he bled out in the arms of the real League of Villains. How dare you use a dead man's name as your own? Tarnish the legacy of a good man who cared for his friends by associating it with scum who terrorizes and uses a kid? This will be the last time you claim to be Twice."
"You won't live to stop me," said the boss. Both copies moved as one towards Himiko. They came in as a pincer and she found herself desperately blocking and dodging, unable to find time to counterattack or make space to breath. She needed to get creative, but the old man was a lot more spry and agile than he seemed. Dude kept himself in good physical shape. Sucked for her. If only she could use some of her other stored Quirks or get an opening somehow.
Himiko caught movement out of the corner of her eye. "Uravity," yelled Camo. Himiko ducked and a bottle flew and struck one of her foes in the face. It shattered on impact, spraying alcohol everywhere. More importantly it opened a space and Himiko took the opportunity to run towards Camo and the kitchen.
"Run!" she said, pointing at the teen. Camo didn't need to be told twice and ran through the kitchen and out the open back door. Himiko rushed into the kitchen, her eyes scanning over every surface.
"You're not getting away," said both bosses. They ran after Himiko, their cane swords much too close for comfort.
"I'm not running away," said Himiko. She reached out and put her hand on a large bag of flour on the counter. Ochako's Quirk removed its weight, and she tossed it at the pursuing pair. They slashed as one and cut through the bag. But it still had its momentum and the flour inside exploded over the pair, blinding them. Himiko took advantage to rush forward, activating her own Quirk to slightly change her abilities. "Not before I teach you a lesson!" Mud flowed out of her body and in an instant Ochako and Jin stood side by side. In sync they uppercut the old men, sending them flying backwards to land unconscious on the ground. As they landed one of them disappeared into smoke.
"We did it," said Twice, pumping his fist in the air. "Take that you fake!"
Himiko allowed herself a smile. "We did," she replied, gazing fondly on the man before her. She saw his face in the mirror every day, but it wasn't quite the same. She reached out and put a hand on his masked cheek. "It's good to see you again."
"Do I know you?" asked Twice. His tone immediately changed. "Just kidding! I'd recognize you anywhere. Even though I guess I don't really recognize you."
"I'm sorry I can't keep you out any longer," said Toga, tears in her eyes.
A hand came up and Jin dabbed her eyes with a handkerchief. Her handkerchief. "Aw, don't cry Toga-chan. You've got such a cute face; I hate to see it covered with tears. I must really be lucky if I'm able to be here to help you like this."
"Yeah," said Himiko, nodding and giving him a smile. "It's actually Uraraka now."
"Uraraka-chan, got it," said Jin, giving a thumbs up. "It suits you."
"Ochako is the cutest, isn't she?"
"She is. Does she make you happy?"
"She does."
"Then I'm glad you can keep making each other cuter and cuter," said Jin, his mask stretching as he smiled underneath it. He gave her a crisp salute. "Sayonara!"
"Goodbye," said Himiko. The clone broke apart into a puddle of mud, covering the boss in gunk. Himiko smiled at the final insult Twice had gotten on the imposter.
"What was that?" Himiko turned and realized that Camo was peering in through the back door, her eyes wide with wonder. "You have multiple Quirks?"
"Uh," said Himiko, trying to figure out an excuse. "That's not really important. We need to call this in and get you to safety, then I'll answer any questions, okay?"
"Okay," replied Camo.
Himiko pulled out her phone and texted Ochako.
Hey cutie, are you up to anything exciting today?
Himiko glanced at Camo. "Do you mind being here when the police come? I won't try to catch you if you want to run to avoid trouble."
Ochako's response came almost immediately. That meant she was probably not doing anything more than patrolling.
Nope. It's been a quiet day. Why?
"What's going to happen to me if I stay?" asked Camo, not making to move.
Himiko typed out her response to Ochako.
Cool. If anyone asks you were at a bar fight in downtown and took out a small gang.
"They'll probably find a home or shelter for you to stay in," replied Himiko. "They might try you for theft, but I'll be sure to go as a witness to say I saw you being extorted."
"And they'll believe you?"
"Of course they will," replied Himiko. "I'm known to be very trustworthy." A reply from Ochako dinged in.
What did you do?
Himiko could hear the cold fury in her partner's voice. It sent a delicious chill down her spine. She sent back her reply.
Nothing, but I'm going to report to the police as you, like the good girl I am. Keep a low profile for a bit.
"Even if I'm sent to prison there's nothing for me out there," said Camo. She gestured to the bar. "This place was all I had. No one wants me."
Another text from Ochako.
Copy that. Good luck.
Himiko felt her heart swell at Ochako's understanding response. She walked over to Camo and put a gentle hand on the top of her head and smiled at her. "The system sucks and has failed you," she said. "I know a lot of what that's like. But just because it hasn't found you someone doesn't mean no one wants you. You're cute, I'd love to have you in my family."
"Really?"
"Really."
There was a moment of silence while the girl considered her words. "What happens if I run?"
"I won't chase you," said Himiko. "But after that, I don't know. I think that would be up to you. Maybe you'll be able to find someone able to help you. Or you might not. It's a lonely world, but if you want to face it on your terms, you should go for it."
Camo nodded. More silence, then, she disappeared. Himiko smiled and dialed the police. "Hello, this is the Zero Gravity Hero Uravity. I'd like to report a crime."
The police response was quick and Himiko had only just finished restraining the three men with cuffs she'd found in a drawer on the second floor when they arrived. She hadn't bothered dragging the shark man down the steps, but she did make sure he couldn't go anywhere. She greeted them like she'd seen Ochako do dozens of times and gave her account of events. She mentioned that she'd followed a teenage pickpocket, the abuse and that she'd stepped in to help. She stated that some time in the fight the girl she'd been chasing, who she hadn't named, had fled. She did not mention her quirk or appearance.
"Should we put out a bulletin to find her?" asked the police officer.
Himiko shook her head. "I don't think so. She's just a girl. No reason to drag her back, right?"
The officer frowned at that. He'd probably meant his question rhetorically and didn't like that a Hero was telling him how to do his job. But before he could escalate Himiko felt something grab her hand and a soft pressure on her back.
"I'd like to turn myself in," said a soft voice into Himiko's back. She smiled and held back a laugh as the officer jumped and looked around for the source of the voice. Himiko looked down and saw Camo's hand appear holding hers. "I can tell you about everything they did here. And what they had me do."
"How about that, officer?" asked Himiko. She gave Camo's hand a gentle squeeze. "It looks like you've gotten a cute and brave little witness."
"Yeah," said the officer, studying the teen. "I guess I have. Do you have a name, little miss?"
A brief pause. "Kengamine Karako."
"Thank you Kengamine-chan," said the officer. "Would you mind coming with us?"
She flinched at that. Himiko spoke up. "Would it be possible for me to take her into custody?" asked Himiko. "Give you time to sort through all of this mess and give her time to calm down before talking?"
The officer considered that. "It's not unheard of for a Hero to take temporary custody of a witness who is a minor, but are you going to be fine? She does have a history of running away based on today and a Quirk to do so."
"If she was going to run, we wouldn't be having this conversation," replied Himiko. "Plus, if she runs, I'll just find her again. The elusive Toga Himiko couldn't escape from me, a kid like this is child's play."
The officer nodded. "Let me see if I can get approval. Wait here please." He turned and walked away, pulling out a phone.
While he made his call, Himiko looked to Karako. "Sorry for not asking your permission," she said. "But would you mind staying with me tonight? I can accompany you throughout this process if you want."
"Why are you doing all of this for me?" asked Karako.
"Because everyone deserves a hero to come save them," replied Himiko. "Just like how mine saved me."
The officer came back over after a minute and gave Ochako permission to take Karako home with her. She just needed to make sure that the girl appeared at the police station to make a statement in the morning. Himiko agreed to that, mentally trying to think of all favors she could call in from Ochako. Not because she thought Ochako needed to be bribed to help, she knew she would, but because the living room was cold this time of year. She'd rather not have to sleep on the couch, regardless of how comfortable it was.
Once all the formality stuff was done and the villains were taken away, Himiko and Karako were finally given permission to head home. The officer offered to give them a ride, but Himiko turned him down, instead saying they could walk. Karako was allowed to gather a duffel bag that seemed to contain everything she owned and Himiko carried it slung over her shoulder while they walked hand in hand down the street as the sun started to set. Not having any groceries at home, Himiko asked Karako what she liked to eat. She didn't have an opinion, so Himiko suggested a local Chinese place. She had the girl help her place a delivery order for three, knowing by heart what Ochako's favorites were. A little tasty food-based bribery would go a long way. Once the order was placed, she texted Ochako to tell her she was on her way home and had ordered dinner.
The food conversation kept Karako distracted while they walked out of downtown and into a residential area. She made sure that they went the same route Himiko had chased her previously. There was dawning recognition of the route on the girl's face that only turned to surprised horror as they approached the grocery store, she'd caught her at hours previously.
"Don't worry," said Himiko, briefly worried the girl would try to run. "I'm not turning you into the store or anything. I just live past this place." That calmed her down enough to keep following.
By the time they got to her neighborhood the sun had set and all the homes had soft light coming out of their windows. Himiko could see into one home where a family was gathered around the dinner table, laughing at a joke or something. Finally, she made it to her house and gestured to it. "Here we are," said Himiko. "Home sweet home."
"It looks nice."
"It is. Just a note though, I live here with my partner. She's already home and uh…might not know you're coming."
"Isn't that going to be a problem?" asked Karako. "What if she doesn't like me?"
Himiko laughed. "There's not worry of that. You're cute and she's the nicest person in the world. Much nicer than me. With the patience of the Buddha. Just try not to be surprised when you see her."
A frown. "Is she ugly or something?"
"Of course not!" said Himiko, opening the door. She started to take off her shoes and had Karako do the same. "My partner is the cutest person in the world. If you think I'm cute, she's a hundred times more." Himiko shut and quickly locked the door behind her. The teen didn't notice. "I'm home!"
"Welcome home," said Ochako. Himiko saw Karako's eyes go wide as she heard a familiar voice. She only became more shocked when Ochako walked into view. Her partner looked at her and Karako in surprise. "Um, who is this?"
"Hi cutie," said Himiko. She shifted her form and soon Kotarou was standing next to Karako.
The girl was rightfully surprised and let out a scream. She ran into the house towards Ochako before stopping, trapped between them. "Who are you?" asked the girl, frightened.
"Well, this is my partner the Zero Gravity Hero Uravity," said Himiko, gesturing to a confused Ochako. "The hero who saved you today."
"But-" said Karako, stumbling over her words. "You were the one there, weren't you?" Then dawning comprehension on her face. "You're that weird old dude who chased me through the city!"
"Hey," said Himiko. "I'm not weird."
"You're very weird," said Ochako with ever suffering affection. "What's this about chasing a girl?"
"She stole my wallet," said Himiko. She shrugged. "I thought I'd scare her straight a bit."
"You let her steal your wallet, didn't you?" asked Ochako.
Himiko smiled, showing teeth. "Guilty."
"God damn it Kotarou," said Ochako, letting out an exasperated sigh.
"What're you going to do to me now?" asked Karako. "This your revenge for the wallet? Going to kill me or something?"
"Of course not," said Ochako. She was trying desperately to catch up to the strange situation. She reached into her jacket hanging on the rack and pulled out her Hero license. "I really am a hero and you're safe here."
"Exactly," said Himiko. "Everything I told you about staying here for safety and all that was true. Only thing I wasn't truthful about was my identity. But you really are going to be under the protection of the hero Uravity."
Karako considered that in silence for a minute, glancing back and forth between the two adults. "All right. But if you're not a hero, then who are you? You can't be just some random old dude."
Himiko laughed. "Good question," replied. She winked at Ochako and her partner just put her head in her hand, knowing where this was going. "Ochako?"
After a moment Ochako removed her head from her hand and smiled at Himiko. It was fond and full of love. No matter how exasperating Himiko was, Ochako was there for her. She nodded. "If you're sure."
Himiko gave her partner a smile then returned her attention to Karako. "When I'm like this I'm known as Uraraka Kotarou," said Himiko. Goop started to slop off her body and her silhouette shrunk. One of her arms and one of her legs just fell of completely. "But in private you can call me Uraraka Himiko. Welcome to your new home."
Author's Notes: If you're not writing Himiko like a horror movie monster even while she's being a good person, then what's the point? She's so much fun to write. I like to think of this timeline as the one where Himiko and Ochako's Quirks and abilities are at their peak power level, even despite their age. A sort of "All-Star Superman" style timeline. Maybe at some point I'll feel inspired to write another story and show how powerful Ochako can be as well. While Himiko can use her Quirk very well, at this point Ochako is so much more experienced with it that she's surpassed anything Himiko could do while borrowing it. Karako is very much in over her head, but don't worry, it'll turn out great for her.
Alternate Ending:
Himiko: Hey kid, want to see a dead body? [removes her transformation]
Karako: [screaming]
