Chapter 25

We were all sitting at the dining room table again. It was so weird. He had us sitting here eating breakfast as if we were some pretend family. Tomura wouldn't stop staring at Dabi. He kept going on and on about how strange he looked without his burns and staples. Of course, Dabi ignored him and continued to eat. Kurogiri stood off to the sides like some butler, but All For One just sat there staring at me. I was never going to get my hands on Kurogiri's quirk if he kept watching me like this. Even if I managed to get my hands on it, would I be able to fool him?

"You're staring at me, can you stop," I said.

"Yeah she's nothing special," Tomura said.

Dabi smiled. "Upset because you're no longer the favorite."

"Watch your mouth before you get hurt," Tomura said.

I glared at Tomura." You will not touch him!"

Dabi and Tomura had surprised looks on their face. I was surprised too. I sounded so… nasty was the only word that I could think of at the moment. In a split second, I had gotten furious because he threatened Dabi. All For One laughed so loud it echoed off the walls. We all turned our attention to him.

"You are my daughter indeed. You strike fear in those around you with just a simple sentence. You really are something to marvel at."

Tomura stormed off, but All For One kept his eyes on me. I was trying my best not to look at Kurogiri.

"Why do you keep looking at Kurogiri? He asked.

I tensed up and for a split second, I did notice Dabi did too. If I noticed, there was a chance that All For One noticed too. I thought I had hidden it well. I guess I was wrong. I had to think quickly. The longer I took to answer, no doubt the more suspicious he would become.

"I want his quirk," I said plainly.

He gave me a smile. He looked intrigued by what I said.

"Oh? Is that so? Hmm. You haven't tried to run yet. Is this your way of trying to escape?"

I shook my head. "No. I just want it."

"You just want it?" he asked.

He was waiting for me to go on.

I nodded. "I like collecting them… other people's quirks. The rarer the better. I like the way that they feel." I said not looking at him.

It was the truth and it was the first time I'd admitted it, let alone said it out loud.

He grinned. "Is that so? We do have something in common. You're proving to be more and more like me with each passing day."

"I'm not like you. I don't steal people's quirks, I just copy them."

He tilted his head to the side. "Yes, but that is only because you have the option to do so. What if you had no other choice but to steal them? Would you be able to hold yourself back?"

I had never thought about that before. Was he right? Just how many terrible things did I inherit from this man?

He smiled at me. "Kurogiri. Come, and give her your hand."

I looked at him shocked. Kurogiri made his way over to me and held out his hand as he was told. I looked at it, then back at him.

"Go on," he said.

I bit the inside of my cheek and grabbed onto his hand. Each quirk felt different. This one gave me goosebumps but in a good way. Like a cold refreshing breeze. I couldn't help but smile. I notice All For One still looking at me, Dabi too. I stopped smiling and put my hand down.

"Do you know why I gave you your name Yami?"

I looked up at him and shook my head.

"It is a play on words. Yami means Dark. Hikari means Light. I wanted to know whether or not you would turn out like me or your mother. Were you going to be on my side or one of them?"

"And?" I asked.

"You are interesting indeed, but we shall see." He replied.

After that, he go up from the table and left with Kurogiri. I felt Dabi give my thigh a reassuring squeeze, but it didn't work. I had a million things on my mind. I let out a breath I didn't know that I had been holding in.

"Come with me." He whispered.

He pulled me up from the table and outside. The scenery was beautiful. I couldn't see any other houses. Just trees, the house was surrounded by wildflowers. He put his arm around me, kissing my forehead.

"Are you alright Yami?"

"Honestly I don't know."

"What are you thinking?"

I sighed. "I don't know that either."

He held me tighter. Hopefully, I could sneak away tonight.

We waited until the middle of the night to try something. Dabi made sure to lock the door. He came back over to me, handing me a thick folded piece of paper.

"What is this?"

"If you do manage to get back to them. Those are just some of the things that I know. Make sure to get it to the right person. Remember Yami you cannot take too long. Do not stay longer than ten minutes. Only speak to someone you know that you can trust. You do not know who All For One has watched. So stay hidden. Last if anything is wrong and you can't make it; if the quirk doesn't feel right. Stop and come back to me. Do you hear me?"

I took a deep breath and exhaled. "I promise I will."

I put the paper in my pocket. "Wait how am I supposed to know how many minutes it's been? I don't have a watch or anything."

He smiled and kissed me. " Count if you have to."

I smiled and nodded. I walked over to the middle of the room and stared into space.

Okay quirk, talk to me.

I closed my eyes and just listened to it.

Okay, just picture where it is you want to go; got it.

I concentrated as hard as I could. A portal of dark smoke started to open up in front of me, and that's when I saw it. My dorm room.

I took a deep breath… and stepped in.
