Authoress Note: I decided to do a rewrite on this fic again. This is my third attempt at writing this and I'm getting slightly irritated with my reviewers thinking that my story isn't all that good. So here once again is a new updated version and hopefully much stronger. This was initially called Love Prohibited and then it was called Jaded and then it was called When It All Comes Down. I decided that a better title would be better for this fic. I'm hoping that this third rewrite is going to be justice for what I was trying to get through the first two times I rewrote this story. I'm going to be tweaking a lot of this story to make it better and hopefully, my readers enjoy the story. Without further ado the prologue of Someone Like You.
Prologue
A fifteen-year-old young lady with dirty blonde hair and blue eyes looking at the vast abyss that was called the sea that was clouded over more so than what she thought it should've been. Her brows furrowed in concern as she heard her sister's soft singing about men that were unspeakable and dangerous to all nobles and commoners alike.
"Yo, ho, yo, ho, a pirate's life for me. Yo, ho, yo, ho, it's a pirate's life for me…. Drink up me hearties, yo ho ..." Twelve-year-old Elizabeth sang softly as she looked out into the clouded abyss that was around the water.
The fifteen-year-old jumped when Joshamee Gibbs clutched onto Elizabeth's shoulder. She bit her tongue in wanting to say something, but she didn't want to bring trouble down onto herself. After all, she was to be a role model to Elizabeth since their mother had passed not too long ago on water such as this. Her brows furrowed together as Gibbs turned Elizabeth towards him. She could only hope that Gibbs wouldn't be harsh on her sister.
"Silence, Missy! Cursed pirates sail these waters. You want to call them down on us?" Joshamee's voice came out gruff, causing the teenager to shiver a little in fear.
"Mr. Gibbs," Lieutenant Norrington's voice rang out, in the fifteen-year-old's eyes he was a fine young man, only five years older than herself. "That will do."
The teenager bit the inside of her cheeks as she shyly looked through her lashes at Lieutenant Norrington. He was a kind man to her and she knew that he would protect her and her family on this journey. Even though she didn't want to be on this journey, no one wanted to watch her and her father didn't want her to be still in England while he was in Port Royal.
"She was singing about pirates," Joshamee said, trying to defend his actions of scaring Elizabeth and Rose. "Bad luck to sing about pirates, with us mired in this unnatural fog… mark my words."
"Consider them marked. On your way." Lieutenant Norrington said, looking at Joshamee with a dismissive look on his face. He didn't want this man of the King's navy to scare both young women that were onboard. He knew that they had faced enough with the loss of their mother. They didn't need more trouble added to them.
Rose took a shaky breath as Joshamee went on his way. Her hands gripped tightly at her sides turning white.
"Rose back away from the rail." Governor Swann called his eldest daughter. "I know you get seasick when you look at the water." He was concerned about how his daughter was knowing why she got seasick and was afraid of being on any type of open water. He knew that his wife's death weighed heavily on his eldest's mind and that it was even more of a burden that she picked up the role of being the role model for her younger sister to try and help finish raising her little sister like her mother would have.
Rose carefully picked up the hem of the light green dress and walked towards where her father and the Lieutenant were standing far enough away from the rail of the ship. She looked up when she felt a hand on her shoulder, which belonged to none other than James. It was always a sweet gesture from him and it caused her heart to race inside of her chest. She closed her eyes as she felt the warmth of his hand through the material of her green gown.
"Aye, Captain." Joshamee said as he moved along."Bad luck to have a woman on board, too, Evan a miniature one and a young adult."
"I think it would be rather exciting to meet a pirate," Elizabeth said with a smile, not even thinking about what it would truly be like to meet a pirate in real life.
Rose shook her head at the thought of meeting a pirate. "Elizabeth, you surely can't be thinking that it would be exciting to meet a pirate." She eyed her brown-haired brown-eyed sister knowing that this probably wasn't a good sign that she was so enamored with pirates.
"Think again, Miss Swann. Vile and dissolute creatures, the lot of them. I intend to see to it that any man who sails under a pirate flag, or wears a pirate brand, gets what he deserves: a short drop and a sudden stop."
Rose's eyes went wide as she looked up at him. "James." Her voice was rather soft. She didn't like the fact that he so willingly would say that out loud in front of her younger sister who was still rather impressionable than she was.
"Lieutenant Norrington… I appreciate your fervor, but I am concerned about the effect this subject will have on both of my daughters." Governor Swann said, giving James a warning. He didn't want his daughters to know the side of death that would happen to pirates or anyone that was on the wrong side of the law.
"My apologies, Governor," James said firmly as he looked over at Governor Swann.
Rose's hand went to her mouth as a wave of sickness hit her. Her cheeks were paling as the ship rocked on the sea softly which made her stomach churn even more.
"Miss Swann, do you wish me to take you below deck to the Captain's corridor?" James asked softly knowing the look on Rose's face wasn't a good one. He didn't blame her for getting seasick, but also didn't blame her for not wanting to be on the ship in the first place. But he knew that she knew her place and was going with her father.
She nodded her head rather weakly.
James looked at the Governor. "Governor, I am going to take your daughter below deck," James said politely, lowering his head slightly knowing that this was probably for the best for Governor Swann's eldest daughter.
Her father nodded his head knowing that Rose needed to get below deck.
James pulled her close to him and slowly took her below deck being careful to be proper with the young woman. He brought her to the Captain's room as he had promised. He looked at her worry etched across his face. "You should rest." He said softly, touching the side of her cheek.
"Thank you, James." She said softly looking up into his eyes as she tried her best not to lean into his touch, but she failed in doing so only to lean into his calloused hand. She shyly moved back her cheeks flushing in embarrassment. "I must apologize. I shouldn't have done that." She said softly knowing that this wasn't a good thing for her to be doing. She couldn't be acting this way with James, it wasn't proper.
James' lips quirked a little in the thought of how proper she thought that she should be. "Rest Miss Swann. I will be back later to check on you." He said softly as his green eyes locked with her blue eyes.
Rose nodded her head softly as she moved towards the bed slowly and finally laid down being very careful to not trip over the skirts of her gown.
James watched her with a soft gaze before slowly closing the door and turning to go back above deck where he was needed.
Rose bit her lip softly, being very thankful for what James had done for her. She wondered perhaps if her father paid close attention to what happened between the two of them, he would perhaps propose the idea of marriage between the two of them. Her heart clenched in her chest in worry if her father didn't think about it.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
This is the end of the Prologue. I hope that this time around the much-added detail to this part is better than the last two times that I've written this story. I'm going to continue adding things into the chapters to help make them longer, but not only that to help fix the issues that I've had with writing the story. If there are any errors, I do apologize. I've done this in Google Docs and have used the editor in it and even went a step further with the free version of Grammarly which doesn't always catch everything. Which I have to admit is fairly sad. This is probably one of my longer prologues for a story, but I think it turned out fairly well. I hope that you all enjoyed the prologue. Please leave a review and let me know what you think of it. Reviews will help me with my writing and always help me keep on going. Hopefully, this time around the story won't be as bad as it was the last two times I wrote this. Let me know if there is anything that you would like to see in future chapters. But keep in mind whatever happens in this story is all set during Black Pearl. So there will be a movie plot in this story and hopefully more of a twist than what I had before in the last two rewrites. This will be my last rewrite of this story and if it doesn't do well, then I give up on writing any Pirates of the Caribbean stories. Until next time.
