Chapter 2 The Investigation

in the house where Cridarin lives you can see the old wizard sitting on his couch with his fireplace Lighting the room and on the coffee table seems to be a large number of papers that appear to be filling out and organizing themselves like the pen and paper have a mind of Their Own, as he takes a sip from the glass of hot tea he poured for himself earlier sounds from the upstairs of a door slowly closing trying to be as quiet as possible but absolutely failing because of the age of the doors being naturally squeaky,

Cridarin looks over his shoulder and says, so how is she?

she is doing well I have taken some photos where her wounds were before healing them I'm assuming you're going to need them as Ember flies from the upstairs balcony to him, then depositing the photos onto the coffee table before Landing, the photos immediately jump to life and start organizing themselves with the other paperwork.

that is correct we are going to need all the evidence we can get our hands on to keep her safe, as he finishes that sentence a knocking sound that came from down the hall can be easily heard.

that must be the detective as Cridarin gets up from his seat the pen and paper that were organizing in writing themselves immediately stopping, then they set themself down on the table, as Cridarin opens his front door he sees a man, the man has short black hair and is wearing a suit and over top of that is a tan trench coat, Detective Tsukauchi I presume?

that is correct.

then please come in,

as the detective enters the house questions immediately start forming in his head as the Oddity that is Cridarins house. when he normally enters somebody's home he is greeted by a modern-style apartment but somehow he redecorated his apartment and redesigned to be a recreation of something from the Middle Ages, as he walks down the hallway he sees armored suits lining the walls instead of modern-day light fixtures there are lit candles instead, as he enters deeper into his home his thoughts are well this place is big and then he realizes it, wait how is this place this big he lives in an apartment complex did he rent out all the apartments and then did a major remodeling, no, no, that's still won't be right this place is way too big to fit into the entire apartment complex,

then it must be a quirk it could be a spatial quirk or it could be a teleportation quirk that door I entered could have led me to a totally different place if that's the case I have no idea where I am. as Detective Tsukauchi thinks to himself nervously he looks over to Cridarin, and asks ,ah, Cridarin by any chance can you tell me where we are Detective Tsukauchi says with a serious face?

it is my home of course but I'm guessing that's not the answer you're looking for Cridarin says with a smile,

then let me rephrase the question how is this place this big we've been walking down this hallway in a straight line for a while now this apartment complex isn't as big as the interior of your house?

impressive Detective, you noticed it immediately yes my house is bigger than the apartment space allotted to me by the landlord who runs these Fine Apartments. the apartment space he allowed me to have was way too small for all my things to fit so I just made it bigger we're still in the same place but when it comes to my house size matters not.

so as I thought this is done by a spatial quirk am I right,

this is done by somebody who has power over space yes but enough about my house, we are here for one thing only, as they finished walking down the long hallway it opens up to the living room Cridarin jesters over to the chair across from the stack of papers sitting on the coffee table Cridarin sits down in the other chair across from that

as the detective takes his seat he hands Cridarin the folder that chief Tsuragamae gave him, this is everything we have on the girl's background,

excellent Cridarin says and then Cridarin grabs it from his hand then he says, the papers on the coffee table is the medical report and her statement, the medical report is on the left her statements on the right, as Detective Tsukauchi grabs the medical report he opens it and after a long while of him reading a surprisingly detailed and professional medical report he puts it down for a second. I was under the impression you didn't go to any hospital.

that is correct I did her exam here on arrival at my house. I had to put all those years of medical experience to use, so why do you ask,

it's nothing it looked way too professional like it came straight from the hospital or something,

ah, I see, but I also see there's another question that is brewing in your mind Cridarin says with a knowing look.

yeah are you sure, he says with a straight face?

Detective Tsukauchi tenses up in anger, about her being tortured obviously, I can't pretend I know everything you're talking about here I am not a medical professional but it looks like you're sure that she was tortured but to me these looks like simple bruises as he looks at the photos again.

I am 100% positive she was tortured, as Cridarin Psys,

then can you explain it to me if you do not mind,

of course, I can, you see it's very simple I have seen this method of torture before this method of torture is designed to be discreet each bruise on her body is in a spot that will inflict the maximum amount of pain possible without giving away that the person was tortured all of them are on all the nerve endings and pressure points these spots are extremely sensitive to pain and you can see they are all expertly hit as Cridarin shows him a diagram of all the nerve ending and pressure points and how they overlap where the bruises are. this is also another reason why I didn't take her straight to the hospital, immediately when I saw her I recognized the method of torture but I couldn't be sure without a full examination but if I took her to the hospital and they did the examination and since I'm a second party they wouldn't ask for my opinion or want it and they will think this is just simple bruises. also, her parents would also be notified making the investigation even more difficult

now you explain it to me I do agree with that decision but what about the fractures and minor concussion shouldn't we take her to the hospital for that,

don't worry about it I have fully healed her all she now needs is a little rest, wait you fully healed her, well not me my friend,as Cridarin points to the Flaming bird in the corner that Detective Tsukauchi didn't notice until now,

wait that flaming bird healed her, he says in Surprise.

of course I talk and how are you surprised when I talk when the principal of UA is a talking rat bear thing?

Cridarin coughs grabbing the attention of detective Tsukauchi and Ember, I understand my friend is an Oddity in your eyes but we have more important things to be talking about,

agreed Detective Tsukauchi says,

Ember crosses his wings and rolls his eyes, whatever,

like I said we fully healed her that including her concussion and the multiple fractures, then is it possible for me to question her,

I do not recommend that the healing capabilities I have can heal many things but mental trauma is not one of them and I just got her to sleep so waking her up now be counterproductive for her recovery ember says with a straight tone.

I see, I'll just have to read the statement you took from her in the meantime after I get through this medical report, but what I don't understand is where all of the defensive wounds are, I kind of expect more defensive wounds on her arms than anywhere else but there are none,

no not with a Quirk, and yes there is evidence I'm pretty sure I put it in the back of that folder and there are red markings across her body where she was tied up at,

you mean these red lines they could be anything,

yes that's the point when a detective or a doctor looks at those marks, but for a man of my skill I can tell that these marks are on parts of her skin where there are perfect spots for her to be tied up at, leaving minimum markings and making sure she can't even move a muscle, and I'm guessing her restraints wear some type of fishing wire and not twine because there's no rope Burns just strain marks, he grabs the pictures that shows the red markings on the girls skin and a diagram and put them side-by-side showing, the red markings have a pattern, do you see how the red markings wrap around her skin like there was something there

I'm impressed of your skill and now you pointed out to me that I do, Detective Tsukauchi says in amazement, how did you get this good,

years of experience my good sir, and many many years it was now I got some questions about the information you brought me,

what do you mean everything's all there,

but looking at it it's making my eyes hurt since none of its organized and it's just thrown together but I should have expected it knowing chief Tsuragamae, and knowing him he just got all the information throwing it into a binder and handing it off as quickly as possible so you can get to me as quickly as possible he says in a tired and frustrated tone

so you do really know the chief, he says in amusement and understanding since he knows how the chief operates.

we have worked together for many years and done many investigations together, and since you work for him and you are a successful Detective in his Department you must be skilled in deciphering his unorganized paperwork and since I know you have READ this already and most likely have memorized it and instead of me straining my eyes and giving my self a headache I'm just going to ask you questions about the information in this binder instead of me reading it, so first give me her background information and her parents background information

Detective Tsukauchi Psys, I can do that I guess i will start with the girl, Himiko Toga age 4 Quirk unknown, she is currently living with her parents in the Musutafu residential district, her parents are Mr Himiko Faust and miss Himiko Yumie, Mr Himiko Faust is age 29, Quirk DNA surgery, his Quirk allows him to alter his DNA to be immune to any disease, because of this him and his company was able to create antidotes and vaccines to some of the world's deadliest diseases and because of that his company has a lot of influence in the Japanese government and he has mass a quite a lot of wealth, then there is Miss Himiko Yumie age 26, quark camouflage her Quirk allows her to blend into any environment like a chameleon, her background is pretty average for an upper class citizen

is there any criminal background on the two parents? no, and in a matter-of-fact its way too clean not even a parking ticket in my experience with somebody with this amount of resources they're most likely a seasoned Criminals and they use their resources to wipe their criminal activity from the record or keep it hidden. I doubt that, most likely somebody is actually cleaning up after them I doubt they're seasoned Criminals, no it's most likely their first time doing something this severe how can you possibly know that, Cridarin grins, three things actually and first is that the fact the girl escaped a seasoned Criminal would not make it easy for a little girl to escape the fact that she did says a lot, second the way of torture is way too unique and recognizable and anyone in the Japanese military or in foreign affairs can obviously spot this type of torture especially when it's the Japanese government that used to use it, I admit that a normal cop or hero that sees these wounds wouldn't recognize it but once it went through the system the Japanese government might have took notice and finally, the third thing is their Criminal record is to clean you're right a seasoned criminal would wipe the record but they wouldn't wipe it completely, they would leave little nuggets of harmless criminal activities like a parking ticket for example. the fact it's to clean that means somebody's wiping the records for them and they don't know what to leave as those little nuggets so they wiped it all

Chief is right this guy is as smart as principal Nezu, Detective Tsukauchi says to himself.

now that's out of the way it's time to investigate as Cridarin gets up and grabs his staff,

and then Ember squawks out in enjoyment, finally, we got through the boring stuff as he starts flying over to Cridarin.

then Detective Tsukauchi says wait a minute are you just going to leave the girl here alone,

ember replies I gave the girl enough sedative for her to sleep for a couple of hours enough time for us to get there do our thing, and get back,

then Cridarin speaks up, and plus my place is very secure I doubt even the greatest Thief can get in, now follow me as Cridarin opens a door adjacent to the living room and he walks through the detective not wanting to be left behind rushes through before the door closes and when he steps through he is surprised because he is no longer in the house he is now across of the Himiko residence,

the detective looks back behind him the door they stepped through is no longer there, then the detective looks around in complete confusion then he turns around to ask Cridarin, then he notices that Cridarin is already across the street so he Rush's across as well, then the detective starts to ask how did you do that, how did we get here, how,

Cridarin cuts him off I would love to answer all your questions but right now we're in the middle of an investigation if you do not mind, now follow me as Cridarin start's walking towards the Frontgate leading to the backyard, but before he can open it Detective Tsukauchi stops him,

we do not have a warrant Detective Tsukauchi says as he grabs Cridarin shoulder,

but we have probable cause, Cridarin says.

wait what do you mean? Cridarin points down at their feet, and at his feet was a small trail of blood barely noticeable leading past the front gate, then Detective Tsukauchi looks at Cridarin and then says,

but I still think we should knock on the door first.

why do that when they're not home, what do you mean,

1 their lights are off two there are two sets of tire tracks leading away from the house one looks like somebody left in a hurry the other one looks like they left in a normal matter

now let's continue our investigation, then Cridarin says to Ember I want you to stay out front and keep an eye out,

Rodger that, then he flys over to a tree and lands

then Cridarin opens the front gate and steps through, they are greeted by a lovely backyard with a row of trash cans in the far back by the well-decorated and maintained wooden shed, as Cridarin simply follows the trail of blood it starts to lead down the path towards the shed, then starts to wrap around behind the trash cans leading to a small pile of bricks stacked and an awkward way like they were recently moved Cridarin starts to move the bricks out of the way.

then Detective Tsukauchi sniffs the air. ha, what's that smell? it smells like,

then Cridarin cuts him off, dead birds, because there is a pile of dead birds right here. interesting the dead birds have bite marks on them and some of them are drained of blood,

really, maybe an animal got to them Detective Tsukauchi says,

I doubt it, the birds look like they were stashed away and it was done hastily, then Cridarin gets up and walks over to the shed and then opens it, the interior of the shed looks to be well-maintained but in the middle there were signs of old drops of blood and in closer inspection there was fishing wire tied to certain points leading to the middle, Cridarin gets up and grabs a camera out of his sleeve and starts taking pictures of the whole interior of the shed but before his first picture Cridarin says, we found our torture room,

yeah has the fishing wire and everything like you said but the blood seems to be old, Cridarin snaps another picture, then he says, they are mistakes remember when I told you that the form of torture was meant to be discreet by only leaving bruises the blood is from the times when they accidentally cut her,

I see, the detective Tsukauchi Psys in disgust

but this means she was tortured a lot longer than I thought. as Cridarin steps out of the shed continuing taking his pictures,

wait how long then, Detective Tsukauchi says,

I can't really tell from sight alone but the blood must have been there at least three weeks maybe more,

a whole month of torture who do that to a little girl,

but before Cridarin can answer that question ember squawks loudly, the squawk sounds natural but it is distinct enough for the two to know it's from ember, that's the signal somebody's out front, as Cridarin start walking out front with the detective Their eyes spot two cars pull up onto the driveway one is a red muscle car and the other is a black SUV

A tall Slender woman with long brown hair in a red dress steps out of the muscle car with a tall man with blonde hair, a goatee, and a pair of glasses with a suit their attire gives the impression that they just came from a nice dinner or party, Cridarin immediately identifies them as Faust and Yumie. then stepping out of the SUV is a man with short, thin, black hair and wearing dark shaded sunglasses he is a muscular man in a black suit he gives off the impression that he's some type of bodyguard.

as the three set their eyes on their visitors then Faust speaks up, ha we have visitors, would you mind telling me why you are here and on our property,

Cridarin speaks up, certainly, you see I have found your daughter an hour ago she was not in the best shape, she had bruises all over her body among other injuries, me and this detective here have been sent here to speak with you on the matter, the brown and blonde hair couple looks toward their bodyguard in disappointment,

then Yumie speaks up, about those bruises thay are from when she fell down the steps I'm afraid you are wasting your time here,

then detectives Tsukauchi speaks up, Madame my quirk allows me to tell when somebody's lying and you just lie to me,

then Cridarin speaks up and I doubt her falling down the steps would have perfectly line up with all the nerve endings and pressure points if hit with an object will cause the maximum amount of pain.

then Cridarin starts to speak again and as he does he turns his gaze to and , after and see the eyes of the old man that thay thought was weak they start to tremble because in his eyes they could see a terrifying power behind them and a burning rage that can burn them into Ash in an instant, now I have enough evidence to lock you both up for a very long time but I need to know one thing and since the detective kindly put it, that he can tell when you're lying so just tell us the truth,

and what would that be says,

why did you torture your daughter was it for amusement, boredom, or was there an actual reason Faust starts to break out in laughter you don't know, honey he doesn't know, and after that statement then Yumie breaks out in laughter as well.

what's so funny Detective Tsukauchi says in annoyance, I'm laughing because all this wouldn't be happening if you knew what her Quirk was cuz if you knew you wouldn't care.

and let me guess she needs to drink blood for it to work Cridarin says. how did you know, we removed her Quirk from all of her medical records, Faust says out and shock,

that's easy I used observation and in your backyard I found the stash of birds that she hid. and I'm assuming with your quirks combined she can transform into the person of the blood she drinks,

you know what her monstrous quirk is and you want to arrest us for trying to beat the monster out of her, Faust says out in anger and as those words leaves his mouth the air around the area starts to heat up, the flower garden lining the wall of the house starts to dry up and then burst into flames,

Ember knowing what's happening starts to freak out a little and then he says to Cridarin, okay Cridarin you need to calm down, Cridarin takes a deep breaththen the heat in the area dies down the flowers that we're on fire immediately are snuffed out,

what the hell is this power I thought he had some type of spatial quirk and this is clearly pyrokinesis how does he have more than one quirk the detective thinks to himself while in shock,

then Mr. Himiko Faust says not being phased by the small show of power and not realizing he's digging his own grave and the grave is already deep enough to reach to America, that little monster doesn't deserve what we gave her other parents would have just thrown her onto the streets, but no we hired a man to discipline her properly so she can ignore those disgusting urges of hers and you were going to arrest us for that even if you do arrest us no one's going to take her in and the Foster system is going to eat her up and then spit her out onto the streets.

as a detective thinks to himself unfortunately he's right the Foster system is already rough for a normal kid and with her quirk and before he continued that train of thought Cridarin speaks up, then from this day forward, she'll be under my care and you are going to be behind bars

Book'em Danno, for multiple counts of child abuse and one count of being a jerk, Ember squawks out,

Book'em Danno? Detective Tsukauchi says in confusion.

sorry I watch a lot of cop films, Ember hangs his head in sadness because the detective did not get his reference,

Detective just arrest these people, Cridarin says as he pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration.

Yumie scoffs, you think you can arrest us our lawyers will have us out in an hour,

not when we have your confession Cridarin says with a smirk, as he pulls out an audio recorder out of his sleeve, and we found your torture room there's enough physical evidence there as well, so are we going to do this the easy way or the hard way

it's not enough to arrest us and I doubt a wrinkly old man like yourself even has the strength to do it, so let my bodyguard jack take care of you, Jack do your job and we're going to go to get something to eat make sure you dump the bodies where no one will find them Yumie. says with a cocky tone than and start to walk away,

Detective and ember go after the Himiko's and I'll handle the big guy, as Cridarin says in a voice that leaves no room for argument

you think you can get past me the large man roared, he pulls out a police nightstick and he extended it with a flick of his wrist, then he charged towards the detective and ember and before he could even reach them he started to lose his footing, as he look down he noticed the ground was covered in some type of Grease, then he looks towards the old man he saw his hand glow for a brief second before he was flat on his back, sliding down the driveway, then onto the yard and hitting a tree with a large thunk. as he grabs his head and try to stand he look towards the old man who started waving his hands in front of him,

the great Elemental plane of Fire grant me a powerful Flame from your plane, Firebolt as Cridarin finishes his quick chant a bolt of flame shoots out from the palm of his hand hitting the large bodyguard in the face knocking him back into the tree, your fight is with me and turning your back against me will mean your end, and also I'll be taking this as evidence since I'm guessing this is the weapon that you used to torture that young girl, as he picks up the police nightstick and puts it into a large plastic baggie and then into his sleeve,

as The Bodyguard gets back to his feet he activates his quirk, then armor plating shoots out from his skin forming a suit of armor, then he lunches at Cridarin and as he avoids the grease on the ground he pulls back his fist to punch the old wizard in his face, the old wizard mumbles under his breath and waves his hand and then says out loud exponential retreat, and as he says those words his hand glows for a brief second and he Rockets backward dodging the armored Fist as it impacts the ground and cracks it beneath him,

but before The Bodyguard can attack again the old wizard starts to chant, the great Elemental plane of Fire Lao me control over all the ash that was born from your flames, and as Cridarin takes a deep breath and inhales all of the ash from the plants and grass that he burned earlier was sucked into his mouth and then immediately blown out at the armored bodyguard, then he yells out ash cloud, as the armored bodyguard is surrounded by Ash blinding him and making it hard for him to breathe, then the armored bodyguard says, what is this,

then Cridarin casually pulls out A hand carved wooden pipe from his sleeve, then promptly lights it and inhales the smoke and then breathes out then says, your end, and with a snap of his fingers and a quick spark from them the ash cloud explodes.

as the dust clears the armored bodyguard lay unconscious on the ground. his armor cracked and shattered in some places and then with a quick flick of Cridarin's finger Flames shoot out and the Flames wrap around The Bodyguard like a rope without harming him, Cridarin walks over to the detective and ember noticing that they have mister and misses Himiko in cuffs,

then Cridarin says, looks like you guys had everything under control on your end,

then Faust yells out in anger, how did you beat him he was supposed to be able to be any low-class hero like you,

a low-class hero who said I was, and I beat him because once he and you stepped out of those cars I came up with a plan, I silently told my companion ember the plan, and then we executed it.

and what plan was that misses Himiko says with Venom in her voice.

haa, a magician never reveals his secrets, Cridarin says in a cocky tone,

and as Ember thinks to himself, it's unfortunate they'll never know how simple the plan was, because the whole time when they exit their car Cridarin was prepping the grease spell, he also faked being angered so he can create Ash so he can set the scene for his final attack and if that wasn't enough to put that guy down, he had other plans in the work since now the whole front yard is now a minefield, my only regret is I didn't get to see any of the good fireworks, I guess that will teach them not to monologue, after embers internal monologue, the police starts to haul off and to jail.

then Detective Tsukauchi starts to walk up to Cridarin and Ember, with too many questions brewing in his head about Cridarin having multiple quirks and the fact that for some reason his quirk does not work on ember

to those questions and knowing the risk to himself and the possible repercussionsif he's in League with that man he decides to take the risk and asks, Cridarin do you know of a man called all for one,

Cridarin looks at the detective with a raised eyebrow, he stroked his beard and thought, no I don't think I have, then a quick realization it's him, wait don't you mean like the Three Musketeers.

Ember chirps, I love that book but hated the movie,

the detective realizes that he's not lying, psying in relief, no nevermind,

all for one and one for all ember cheered, wait do you think Young Togo will want to watch The Three Musketeers when we get back Ember chirped in excitement,

I thought you hated the movie, Cridarin says in annoyance, and as Ember and Cridarin start the Trail off in their own conversation,

then detective says you guys do that I'll see you guys later I need a process these three,

then Cridarin stops him for a second oh do you mind sending over the adoption papers when you get a chance,

yeah, I can, Detective Tsukauchi says with a tired Psy then turns around to walk away,

we'll see you later Ember says with a chirp.

as Detective Tsukauchi gets in the nearest police car he is greeted with a familiar man with a dog head, so how was it, as chief Tsuragamae says to him as he smiles at him.
