Chapter 3 The Dangers of Magic

Chapter 3 The Dangers of Magic
One week later at the Musutafu public park
Cridarin was troubled and that reason was Toga, it wasn't like he had no experience raising children he actually has way too much experience,
every couple hundred years he takes up a charge like young toga, he would raise them cares for them, and love them until the very end, some people might consider that a curse not able to die but your loved ones die in front of you, but to Cridarin it wasn't a curse but a blessing because every time he took up a charge it reminded him what it means to be human, and with his, near Perfect Memory, he would never forget the happy times he had with them,
but it's been a long time since he has been worried about one of his charges, the fact that she won't leave the apartment is only the small problem that troubles his mind, but that can be easily fixed with time, no it was her diet, in this day and age you can easily get blood packs, from grocery stores because of other blood-related quirks, no it was the fact that the blood was not fresh enough, and the blood had been processed and in doing so they remove the key nutrients that toga needs,
so far I've been giving her my blood but since I can only produce 1 quart every two weeks safely, and on average she needs at least 12 oz of blood a day it is really stretching it,
I'm also starting to detect her mental decay even how minor it is, my only hope is to create a blood substitute hopefully the substitute I made for a vampire colleague of mine would work here
but before he can continue that train of thought sounds of crying hit his ears, Cridarin looks over his shoulder seeing five boys in the park by a large tree. one of the boys is on the ground crying and holding his arm, there appear to be minor burn marks all across his arm, then there appears to be a boy with wild green hair in front of him in a protective manner, not able to see the other three boys clearly because of the tree in the way he could only make out somebody with spiky blond hair, one other with wings, and the other with some type of long fingers,
stop it Kacchan you're hurting him, and if you don't, I'll stop you myself, the green hair Boy says with a shaky voice,
the spiky blond-haired boy looks at the green-haired boy, he noticed not just his voice was shaky but every part of his body was trembling in fear, haa, you want to pretend to be a hero, you do not stand a chance without a quirk Deku, as he smashes his fist into his palm Sparks and small explosions shoot out from it.
but before Cridarin could intervene something that he would never expect happened, to the untrained Observer who's not experienced with magic would never notice the slight fluctuations in the air, a normal person would think it's a trick of the light or maybe a mirage caused by the Heat, but unfortunately, this is not the case because the young green hair boy, is somehow manipulating the weave, which shocks Cridarin at his core,
the fact that a five-year-old boy who has no experience or knowledge of magic is manipulating an energy force that literally weaves through reality itself terrifies him
Cridarin acting fast, he quickly starts casting, the great element of Fire come to my Aid and protect my allies from my foes with a Great Wall of Fire, flame wall,
with a quick flick of his wrist, a large wall of flames shoots between the three boys and the green-haired boy, stopping the three kids from attacking him,
but it was there for their protection and not his, and seeing the green hair boys still pulling upon the weave he started casting again, oh great weave grant me the power to counter my foe, counterspell and with a quick flick of his other wrist with his free hand the boy immediately stop pulling upon the weave,
then the green-haired boy starts to fall to the ground unconscious, but before he can hit the ground Cridarin catches him and at the same time he dispels the wall of Fire separating the boys from each other, he looks over his shoulder noticing the two of the three boys are no longer there only the spiky blond-haired boy remained and he was pissed,
who The fuck do You Think You Are getting between me and Deku, now stand aside so I can put him in his place.
turning around with the green hair Boy in his hands, he looks at the blonde-haired boy with a Stern glance. one watch your language, and two I won't let you beat on an unconscious boy, and even if he was conscious I'll still get between you,
what the fuck did you say you old geezer he's quirkless so I have the right to do anything I want with him,
Cridarin looks at the boy with a terrifying glance that promises pain if he didn't run away, as intended this triggers the young blonde's flight or fight response causing the young blond to run away in Terror,
then turning around to the young boy who is still crying on the ground clutching his arm, Cridarin pulls out from his sleeve a small vial of white liquid, then gently pours it onto the young boy's arm, it immediately healed his wounds and when it did the young boy just simply ran away, leaving behind a completely confused Cridarin,
then he mutters to himself. was I really that scary, so now what am I going to do with you, as he looks at the boy in his arms,
then a Familiar voice speaks out I got the stuff for young toga, ember says in a cheerful tone, as he flies down and drops the grocery bag then he starts to say, so who's the kid,
that I do not know, but what I do know somehow on Instinct he was manipulating the weave,
Ember's jaw drops, what did you say, I said somehow he manipulated the weave,
oh great now we have to worry about quirks manipulating the weave,
actually, he's quirkless cording to one of the kids,
great that's even worse and even more surprising, you know we have to take action we can't have another wild Mage incident last time that happened things got Fucked up,
one language and two I agree, but first things first we need to take him to our place so open a portal,
are you insane we have a possible wild Mage on our hands and you want to bring him to our place through a portal, we have no idea what would happen if we put him through a portal,
unfortunately, I only have one counterspell left, it's already prepped so I rather have him do something when we are through the portal and not when we are walking down the street to our place,
fine, as Ember opens a portal all three of them step through without any incident, then quickly Cridarin clears out a space in the middle of the living room pulling out a piece of chalk from his sleeve he starts to draw out a magic circle, then ember quickly comes over after depositing the groceries onto the counter in the kitchen and all the way back grabbing candles and an old Leather Pouch full of a powdery substance, then after Cridarin draws out the magic circle and then placing the candles imposition, he puts the boy in the middle
then Ember starts to cast, oh great weave removed your presents from this area block it from your influence, remove it and prevent the magical influence that you bestow upon the world for all who are in this circle, anti-magic field, then from the leather old bag holding the powdery mixture he blows out a small flame from his mouth igniting the dust particles. In doing so lighting all the candles, then the magic circle lights up and a small visible field of light is made surrounding the area inside the Magic Circle.
well, that's settled that, watch the boy and tell me if he wakes up, Cridarin says in a tired tone,
and what are you going to do Ember squawks out in annoyance,
I am going to make togas dinner and I will also be calling chief Tsuragamae and informing him of our situation, Cridarin walks into the kitchen then he takes out his phone, and dials up chief Tsuragamae.
Musutafu Police Department
chief Tsuragamae was just getting finished a long day of battling his longtime nemesis called paperwork, he lays back in his comfortable office chair and stares out the window of his office, he finally decides to stand up and go grab another cup of coffee and he starts to get to his feet then all of a sudden his phone rings and a familiar caller ID shows on the phone's display, sitting back down he answers the phone, what do you need Cridarin,
we have a situation, Cridarin says with a serious tone,
chief Tsuragamae straightens up as he recognizes this type of tone because this is the tone that he uses when something bad is going to happen if I don't help him type of tone, what do you need me to do, chief Tsuragamae says seriously,
first I need to get some information about a child, the kid appears to be Four or five, he has Shaggy green hair and green eyes and he is quirkless and he definitely lives in the Musutafu area,
chief Tsuragamae quickly starts typing the information into the computer, he finds the boys information pretty easily since he's the only quirkless child in that area, I think I found him his name is Izuku Midoriya, age Four, he lives in an apartment complex pretty close to you actually with his mother, his fathers currently overseas with divorce papers currently in process between the two, what is this about Cridarin,
Cridarin Psys, do you remember that Berserker incident when we went to that bar and I told you about wild Magic,
Flashback
somewhere in a city of Japan, a large section of it was carved out in complete Destruction, buildings were collapsed, cars were crushed and it seemed nothing was standing in a couple 20 block radius, and on a mound of Rubble stood a Victorious all might and an unconscious large villain after a Young Detective Tsuragamae finishes reading the article attaining this information on one of the newspapers he got this morning, as he sits on a Barstool in one of his favorite diners and a cross from him is Cridarin, who's wearing the same traveling cloak and wizard hat that he always wears and it looks like he never aged a day.
I'm glad that's not in my jurisdiction god the paperwork would be enormous, but still, I think I have never seen one man who was capable of doing so much destruction on his own and I shudder to think what would happen if all might wasn't there, in all your travels and all your years have you seen anyone capable of doing this much destruction or is it because of the age of quirks this is now what humanity is capable of as a young Detective Tsuragamae turns to Cridarin with curiosity
I have seen someone completely wipe out a City that is the size of Japan before and that was centuries before the age of quirks, wait what, how, a shock Tsuragamae says, because the idiot try to pull upon the weave without any knowledge of magic or how to properly control it, and try to cast a spell to bring back his lover, and because of that he ended up creating a wild magic surge that destroyed the city, a wild magic surge no wonder, no one practices magic anymore it's too dangerous, and you said this happened centuries ago I don't remember anything in are history books about that
Cridarin Psys, it is not as dangerous as you think, yes is very disturbing but it was the luck of the draw it was a one billion percent of chance of it happening because wild Magic surges are unpredictable he Coulda just turned his Lover's corpse into a bunny or something bizarre happening to his neighbors but you're right this is why magic is very closely guarded but back then everybody had access to Magic and they have the common sense to know not to do that, and the fact that a while magics surge capability is relative to the power of the spell and how much you pull on the weave so to sum it all up the idiot try to do something only Gods can do and wiped out a city with wild Magic. and for your second question, it is in your history books but no one knows the full story, Have you ever heard of the lost city of Atlantis,
of course, I have heard of the lost city of Atlantis,

are you saying a kid was attacked by a wild mage,
Cridarin pinches the bridge of his nose with a Psy, no I am not saying that what I'm trying to tell you is the boy somehow pulled upon the weave on instinct, I currently have him in an anti-magic field so he won't be able to cast any spells, so I'm going to need you, and not one of your lackeys to drive down to the midoriya residence pick up his mother and bring her here,
I see you are trying to make sure the woman doesn't see you as a crazy old man, chief Tsuragamae says with understanding, I missed working with you you can always follow my train of thought, now I got to go and start togas dinner,
okay, I'll be there in an hour and a half. after Cridarin hangs up the phone he immediately starts working on togas dinner
after 30 minutes in the kitchen Cridarin leaves it and starts walking up the steps to togas room, opening the door without knocking, Cridarin is greeted with a site that would have disgusted most people but not him, because he was prepared for the site when he took toga in because toga was biting down and draining all the blood from a rat that she found and immediately notice Cridarin, and she was afraid, she immediately dropped the rat and Russia's to hide behind her bed. Cridarin steps into the room completely walk over to the rat and notice that it's still had a lot of blood in it and it's still fresh, he picks it up and starts walking over to Young toga, Cridarin knows that animal blood doesn't have the right nutrients for her it's missing the majority of it but it does push down her cravings for a short time
Cridarin starts to kneel down to togas level and he notices the fear present in her eyes but this fear wasn't directed towards him, no it was the fear of the unknown, it is an instinctual fear that she was forced to develop and it was his unknown reaction to this situation that drove this fear,
is he going to treat me like my mom and dad did, am I going to be punished again, is he like the rest, these are the thoughts that plagued togas mind, toga on pure instinct starts to curl her body up in the fetal position trying
to protect her inner body,
and as Cridarin stairs into toga's eyes, then he starts to recognize the flicker of emotions behind togas eyes and he can tell what type of fear it was, and the best way to combat fear and his long experience is love, and there's only one good way to show it, and it's with a warm smile, and as Cridarin finishes that thought a loving warm smile Grace is his face and immediately settles the nerves of young toga, instead of the look of fear a look of complete confusion is plastered on her face,
You're, not angry at me, toga says barely in a whisper,
nonsense, why would I be angry at you I should be thanking you do you, know how many years I've been trying to get this little fella, Ember even made a little tradition out of it once a month he goes out on the hunt for this little fella but I bet he's going to be a little disappointed that he couldn't bring you along for this month's Expedition since you beat him to it,
toga giggles, already familiar with Ember's antics,
but in the future, I do ask you to bring them to me first so I can properly drain them,
I know your quirk gives you resistance to blood-related diseases but that doesn't mean you're immune to them either,
then toga slowly nods in agreement
okay now come down for dinner I have something I want you to try it may help your cravings, oh and we have guests coming over so try to be on your best behavior,
as Cridarin moves to get up he was stopped by a young toga jumping onto him and hugging him, Cridarin simply just pick Toga up as he maintained the hug and started walking out of the room and down the steps.
as Cridarin walk down the steps to the kitchen he looks over to the green-haired boy in the circle to see if he was still unconscious, which he was, and then look down to Toga to see if she noticed him, but Toga was way too busy snuggling into Cridarins robe to notice the Young unconscious green-haired boy and as they both entered the kitchen Cridarin puts down young toga onto one of the chairs by the counter in the kitchen
Toga was surprised when she entered the kitchen, the kitchen looked like some type of medieval Laboratory, many of the pots were boiling some type of red paste, and on top of the pots wear some type of clear lid, those lids were connected to some type of tube that curled in on itself like some type of spiral then that spiral tube connected to another glass like a beaker, and the beaker had another end that connected to another tube that connected to a smaller beaker, the pots connected to the tube and then to the beaker were sending some type of red liquid into it, the liquid sent to the beaker was thick like blood, but when the smell hit young togas nose it smelled like blood but it was off like it was multiple different types of blood mixed together
Cridarin cut off all the connections to the beaker, then disconnected it, and then pour the contents into a glass then he brought it over to Young toga and set it down in front of her.
this should help with your cravings it's a little difficult to make but hopefully, it would help us solve the problem of procuring blood, Cridarin said with a smile, Toga was shocked no one has ever gone out of the way to do something difficult for her, especially not something this complex,
you did this all for me toga said in shock,
yes of course I did, I know it's been difficult trying to get blood since I'm currently the only source so I am trying to fix that with a substitute, a very old friend of mine also had to feed on blood to survive and I came up with this for him, but there's always a chance this doesn't work which we should know immediately, but know this if it doesn't work and it doesn't help your Cravings
in any way do not blame yourself, because i will just go back to the grindstone and come up with another solution so don't worry about it Cridarin Sed with a loving smile,
toga was so confused her parents never showed such affection to her, never went out of their way to do something like this for her, and never truly accepted her,
and when her Quirk finally manifested and her uncontrollable desire for blood grew, then when she tried to act on that desire she was swiftly punished
now this man isn't just putting the effort in to help satisfy that desire but he acts like it's not a big deal and it's perfectly acceptable to have such a desire
what is even more confusing is this man's smile, she never saw such a smile on her parents and it was so warm and encouraging like nothing was wrong in the world and everything will be okay,
and every time she sees that smile every part of her body immediately starts to calm down and all the anxiousness and sadness simply disappear,
why is this man doing this isn't she a monster, isn't her Quirk evil why is she being treated so differently from her parents
Cridarin saw the confusion and the twist of emotions in Young togas eyes and like he was reading her mind he speaks up, you're not a monster your Quirk is not evil either, the reason I'm treating you like this is that I care about you,
when I made the decision to take you in I did not just make it so you can grow up safely I did it so you can grow up safe and happy and with somebody who truly cares in your life, I have lived a very long time toga and so many times I have seen so many people like you people who are treated terribly for something out of their control and for something they truly do not deserve
when I made the decision to take you in I did not just agree to give you food and a roof over your head, or a bed and a safe place to sleep, I also agreed to give you something that you truly deserve somebody who truly cares, So know this toga as long as you're under my care you'll have somebody who truly cares and accept you for who you are. and no matter what you do in your life no matter who you become I'll be always there for you
then Cridarin picks up toga in a swift hug and Embraces her tightly, and as he does Tears start to Trickle down togas face, then after a long moment that seems like hours she starts to calm down and when she finally does, then Cridarin puts her back on her seat,
now let's try out my substitute hopefully this will settle your cravings but if it does not, do not worry about it
toga grabs the glass with the warm red liquid in it and looks over to Cridarin,
is this Blood toga says curiously,
not quite there's blood in it yes but most of the nutrients you need I extracted from different animal parts like liver, kidneys among other ingredients theoretically this should give you all the nutrients you need
with her question answered toga looks at the glass one more time then takes a sip, togas face immediately pales and she pulls away from the glass,
grosssssssss, toga says with her tongue sticking out in disgust
so tell me toga, obviously, it did not taste good but did it push down your Cravings in any way, or did it increase
toga looks down at the floor and says, not by much, it is a little worse than when I drink from animals
it's alright toga it is not your fault but I still wish you to drink the full glass just in case it may kick in when your body registers it and without any argument, toga drinks it all in one go.
then toga starts to cough a bit and seeing her cough he starts to rub her back
good girl, now why don't I make you something to eat
but before he could act Cridarin can hear sounds of knocking coming from the direction of the front door to the house then Cridarin starts to call out
hay, Ember, come here and make something for toga to eat well I take care of our guests and try to keep her in the kitchen until our meeting is done that would be great. as Cridarin says as he leaves the kitchen and passes Ember while walking towards the front door of his home
as he walks down the long hallway towards the front door he mentally prepares himself for a worried woman who is definitely going to be frightened for her son's health and safety, in his long life he has learned a mother's wrath can be very dangerous especially when their child is involved.
ok, so my first priority is settling her nerves before she enters my home and with that thought, He opens the front door
greeting him is a slim woman with Mossy green hair that is shoulder length. her hair is in the shape of a ponytail that is hanging to the left, her eyes are round and green. she is wearing a pink sweater over a button-up shirt with a long blue skirt. she has a worried expression on her face as well as dried tear marks like she's been crying on the way here and recently just stopped. beside her is chief Tsuragamae in a black business suit with his badge hanging out of his front jacket pocket
seeing the worried expression on her face, Cridarin decides to greet her with a warm smile,
ah, you must be Mrs. Midoriya, I am Cridarin Lord of flames Pro Hero, doctor, and many other things which we do not need to get into right now
Inko Midoriya speaks up in a worried tone, is my son okay is he hurt, but before she could continue Cridarin Cuts Her Off,
don't worry he is perfectly fine and safe. now Mrs. Midoriya before you enter my home listen to me carefully and know this like I said your son is completely safe and in no danger at the moment, his power is unstable but it is contained as long as he stays quarantined, please understand that you cannot approach him my abilities that are currently suppressing your son's power is sensitive to outside influence, now your son is currently unharmed in just asleep
Inko visibly relaxes after hearing that and she speaks up so what's going to happen,
well Mrs. Midoriya we are going to enter my home and discussed that very topic
Cridarin Let the two into his home, as they enter the common area Mrs. Midoriya spotted her son but seeing him unharmed in simply resting on a futon on the floor with a peaceful expression on his face lifted a weight that she did not know was on her shoulders. as the three sat on the comfy furniture in the common area Cridarin and chief Tsuragamae was on one end of the coffee table and misses midoriya on the other. Cridarin seeing that everybody is now comfortable started to speak
now before we start I think it will be best if you got some tea into you it seems like you we're in an emotional state on the way here and this tea should calm you down, then with a quick hand gesture from Cridarin a small food cart coming from the kitchen rolls out all on its own like there is an invisible person pushing it, the food cart settles right next to the coffee table then comes to a stop, a set of tea cups and saucers spring to life and Float over
the teacups and saucers place themselves in front of the three, then from the top of the food cart a steaming hot pot of tea floats over and pours everybody the tea
Mrs. Midoriya wasn't really surprised about the display of the floating tea cups, it is because using your own quirk in your own home in such a way is not an Oddity she certainly does it when she's cleaning the house, but what Drew her attention the most was the tea for one she never smelled anything like it, just inhaling the scent of it made her relax a bit and when she took a sip of it, it was like all her worries just simply Slipped Away she never felt so calm and relaxed in her life and it tastes delicious, and the flavor, oh god, the flavor, it's like a good mix between vanilla and peppermint, with a little honey mixed in.
Cridarin noticing this starts to speak, so let's start talking about your son's situation
yes about that, according to all the doctors my son is quirkless, so how does he have a quirk now? she says in an unusually calm tone for her, which she notices but doesn't react to.
you're right your son does not have a quirk, in fact, he is confirmed quirkless by my own tests. but your son is very special, for you see he did something that I thought was impossible.
and what's that? she says calmly, which again she notices but doesn't react to.
you see your son pulled upon what is called The Weave,
The Weave? she says curiously
yes, The Weave is a magical energy force that weaves through reality, pulling upon the weave and molding it allows people to do a great many things and today your son did just that, which again I thought would be impossible, for you to see, for a person to pull upon it they first must have knowledge of it and a basic understanding of it. but your son pulled upon it only on instinct for some reason your son has an unusual connection to the weave and that's what makes me extremely worried because without that understanding literally, anything can happen,
what do you mean anything can happen and what do you mean by magic, and why am I so calm normally I'll be crying my eyes out, she says noticing again she is unusually calm.
let me answer those questions in the order you asked what do you mean anything can happen, you see if somebody pulls upon the weave without the proper understanding they can trigger something we call a wild magic surge, this surge of magic is unpredictable literally anything can happen, it ranging from turning everybody in a 10-foot area their hair pink, destroying the entire city block, or nothing would happen at all, for you see it is extremely unpredictable no one can predict what would happen if a surge goes off. and for your second question yes, Magic does exist, and in fact, I am the world's greatest mage
you are the only Mage in the whole world you know. Ember says in a teasing manner as he flys over and lands on his pedestal, and Mrs. Midoriya I believe I can answer your last question that tea you're drinking is a special Brew I made using Magic, it keeps the person who drinks it com and level-headed for about an hour, an essential thing for this type of conversation. and before you ask, yes, I am a phoenix and a legendary magical creature.
if she said she was shocked that would be an understatement, the fact that magic is real and her boy could have died or worse, but thanks to the tea she drank she remain calm and level-headed so she turned to chief Tsuragamae for confirmation, is this true?
yes, it might seem unbelievable but everything he said is true, he says in a serious tone
Inko not seeing any lies or hesitation in his voice just Psys, so what happens now
well, there are two choices, first I can train him for six months, he will have to be here until he has enough understanding of Magic so he's not pulling upon the weave on instinct, the only other option is if I set up an anti-magic Circle in your house and he never leaves your home again. you must understand Mrs. Midoriya wild magic is extremely dangerous and volatile the last time I saw it, it destroyed a city the size of Japan if your boy is not trained he will be restricted but once he's trained there will be no risk of a wild magic surge whatsoever,
I can understand training and I accept the offer but what about the school he just started the semester.
Mrs. Midoriya I am over 3000 years old I am practically a living library of information I can probably teach more to the boy than any teacher in his school, I can also write up a formal document stating that your son is receiving treatment by me and will be out of the school for 6 months
I guess I really don't have a choice she says with a psy, and after she finishes that sentence a blond hair girl with pigtails runs over to Cridarin
Grandpa Cridarin my cravings are making me extremely hungry and I don't think I can hold off
Grandpa? Cridarin says with Amusement in his voice
am I not allowed to call you that she says nervously,
no, it is perfectly fine for you to call me that, he says with a smile, so I guess the substitute didn't work whatsoever, then a portal appears in front of him large enough for him to reach his hand through, and as he does that he pulls out a medical blood bag and a glass cup flys over to him. when he grabs the cup he pours what little remains from the blood bag into the cup, and then hands it to young toga she drinks it with gusto and then skips back to the kitchen,
did you just give her blood to drink, Inko says with curiosity?
yes, because of her Quirk she needs blood in her diet but I'm really stretching it since I'm the only source for her.
why don't you just put an order for blood from the blood bank, chief Tsuragamae says with curiosity.
it's because by the time the blood gets to me it isn't fresh enough, if I was able to withdraw the blood I can store it in my pocket Dimensions so it doesn't decay in the slightest, but doing that is extremely difficult because I'll have to find private donors on a regular basis
then I have a solution to that problem, chief Tsuragamae says with a smirk.
oh do tell, Cridarin says with a smile on his face and hope in his eyes.
you see everybody in my department is a registered blood donor I'm pretty sure they wouldn't mind helping out, chief Tsuragamae says proudly.
if you can convince your department to assist me that would be extremely helpful he says bowing to him.
there's no need for that I'm just glad I could help, he says a little bit embarrassed seeing Cridarin bowing to him.
as Cridarin gets up from his bow he faces Inko, now Mrs. Midoriya let's talk about what your son will be learning from me.
