A lone female mage draped in a black robe was running away from four other mages wearing white robes in a dark moonlit forest. Each mage was being followed by their own respective floating book.

"Stop running, you're only making this worse for yourself!" one of the white mages shouted as their book floated in front of them.

"Shut up!" The black mage's book flipped its pages, the mage swiped their hand and a white portal appeared on the floor in front of them.

"You can't escape!" The white mage pushed their arm forward and a barrage of small stones was propelled aimed at the mage to try and stop them from escaping.

The black mage dodged the stones and tripped whilst doing so. "Damn!".

"Got her!" Another white mage swiped their right hand and chains shot out of their book towards the black mage.

"Not yet!" The black mage put both of her hands forward and a white portal blocked the chains by eating them up, a second portal opened up next to the white mage and their chains shot out and wrapped around them, incapacitating them.

"Help him, I'll go for the girl" One of the white robed mages said with an older sounding voice.

"Right" Another white mage stopped running to help the incapacitated mage get free.

The black mage got to their feet and started running again. "Get back here!" The white mage shouted. The black mage opened a portal in front of them again. "You're not escaping!" The white mage's book turned its page and a sword of solid air moved by itself and blocked the mage from entering the portal.

The black mage fell over as they tried to stop themselves from running. "Ah!" The mage tried to get up but got thrown against a tree by the white mage.

The white mage's book flipped its pages again. "Solid air magic: Binding Current" Solid air shot out of the book and bound the black mage to the tree.

"Let me go!" The black mage struggled.

The white mage was finally able to catch their breath. *Deep breaths* "I'm getting too old for this". The white mage took their hood off revealing his black hair and goatee.

The other three white mages finally caught up. "Sir you caught her" one of the mages said.

"Yeah" The old mage sat on a nearby log.

"I said let me go!" The black mage kept struggling.

"Let's get this over with" The old mage grunted as he got up and walked over to the black mage. "By order of the magic knights you are under arrest" The old mage took her hood off her face.

"I didn't do anything wrong!" The black mage shouted out.

"You illegally sold important information to a group of criminals".

"You can't prove that!"

"We have countless witnesses and your partner on the inside".

"You found Mindy out!?"

"We didn't, but thank you for admitting you were in on it and telling us the name of your partner".

The black mage froze up and put her head down. "I can't- I won't let it end here!" The mages book flipped to its very last page.

The old mage's book flipped through its pages as well. "Don't try it".

"I've never used this spell before but now it seems like a good time". The black mage took a deep breath. "Dimension magic: Dimensional Rip!" The pages in the black mages book got ripped out and floated in a sphere formation and a small white sphere appeared in the middle of it.

"Everyone get back!" The old mage shouted.

The three white mages hid behind some trees and used their own magic to protect themselves. "Sir you should get behind cover as well!" one of the mages shouted.

"Someone needs to keep you all safe" The old mage took a deep breath and put both hands out towards the dimension magic. "Hurricane shield!" 5 layers of solid air twisting in different directions covered the dimension magic to try and minimise the effect.

"Too late!" The white sphere grew larger and lit up brighter and brighter, eating up the old mage's magic and the black mage herself.

"Sir!" one of the white mages called out and quickly dragged the old mage behind a tree.

The white sphere stopped growing and a silhouette of a young boy carrying a small boar-like creature could be seen running getting closer and closer and behind them a giant bipedal lizard with giant sharp teeth chasing them down.

"A child!?" The old mage swooped out from behind the tree and opened his book. "Air Barrier!" A barrier of solid air slammed into the head of the lizard slowing its advancement.

The giant lizard roared as it pushed the barrier out of the way and started running at full speed again at the child. "Stone barrage!" One of the other mages shot stones into the lizard's head to try and divert its attention away from the child.

As soon as the child exited the white sphere the old mage swooped in, grabbed them and created another barrier of air this time surrounding him and the child.

Right after the child got through the portal the lizard's head broke through as well. "Chain bindings!" One of the mages wrapped its head up in chains to keep it from moving any further.

The sphere started to get smaller as the black mage ran out of magic. "Sir the sphere" one of the mages said.

"Don't let it advance!" The old mage said.

"Right! Stone Canon!" One of the mages slammed a rock into the lizard's head.

"Dirt Golem!" A hand made from dirt rose from the ground and started pushing the head of the Lizard back.

The lizard once again roared as the white portal closed on it beheading it.

The head fell to the floor and everybody sighed in relief.

The old mage dropped his barrier and looked at the tree the black mage was bound to. "She got away".

"Sir, her grimoire it's still here or… everywhere" one of the mages looked around at the pages scattered around the place.

"We can't leave it, we'll have to pick each page up and take it with us" The old mage said looking around.

One of the mages bent down to pick up some pages. "What was that thing?"

"You mean the giant lizard?" another mage asked.

"I've never heard or seen such a beast before".

"And that kid, where did that portal lead to?"

The old mage stood the child up. The child looked no older than 5, he had long dark brown hair and bright blue eyes, his clothes were very primal looking barefoot even, he was even wearing a necklace of sharp teeth presumably from monsters. 'This kid looks like he isn't even from our century' "Do you have a name?"

The kid took a step back and put his boar friend down.

'That small monster did the boy tame it?, I've never even seen monsters like those two before. Where did this kid come from?' the old man thought to himself.

"Sir the grimoire" A mage handed the older mage the book with all the pages stuffed inside.

"Thank you" The old mage opened the book to see what spell she used but found all the pages blank. "Well this is useless now".

One of the three mages took their hood off and showed his short faded green hair. "Sir what now?"

"We should head back to the capital and report what happened".

"And the boy?"

"We can't leave a kid in the woods, we'll take them with us".

"Them?" The mage was confused.

"The boy and the small creature" The old mage pointed towards them.

"Shouldn't we leave the creature here?"

"They seem attached; it would be mean to split them up".

"Alright".

The boy looked confused about what was happening and the old mage noticed and took his cloak off and sat down to look less intimidating. "Let's start over. My name is Kenny, what's yours?"

The kid didn't speak but sat down face to face with Kenny.

"Is the kid scared?" Kenny asked.

Another one of the white mages took their hood off showing her long black hair. She knelt down to the kids level and smiled. "Maybe he doesn't speak our language?".

The last of the white mages took his hood off, he also had black hair but tied in a ponytail. "Doesn't he kind of look like a caveman?"

"Maybe he came from the past?" the girl with the black hair said.

"I believe he came from another world" The guy with the short green hair said.

"Why do you mean Arlo?" The back haired girl said.

"Well before the portal opened up she shouted "Dimensional rip" so if she managed to bridge the gap between two worlds it would explain why we've never seen these monsters before" Arlo turned to the head of the lizard.

"So cool," The guy with the black ponytail said.

"Eddie, we'll need to use your carriage to get back," Kenny said to the guy with the ponytail.

"Okay" Eddie's book flipped its pages and a 2 horse carriage made from dirt appeared from the ground.

"Alright Rebecca I'll need some help putting the head of the lizard into the carriage" Kenny asked the girl with the long black hair.

She gave a disgusted look due to the blood coming out of it but decided to go with it anyway. "Wait here-" when Rebecca looked back at the kid he disappeared. "Um- huh!?" She frantically looked around and saw the child near the lizard's severed head. "Come over here, that's dangerous" Rebecca slowly walked over to the kid.

The kid didn't respond and instead touched the severed head of the lizard. The head started to glow and a powerful wind emanated from it. Everybody stopped what they were doing and turned to look at what the light was.

The leaves of a clover are said to each contain one thing.

"What's the kid doing?" Arlo asked. The book Kenny was holding started to glow as well.

In the first three dwells integrity, hope and love.

"Sir the grimoire," Eddie said, covering his eyes from the bright light. The book shot out from Kenny's hand, the cover fell to the floor but the pages flew towards the kid and started swirling around him.

The fourth leaf is given over to good luck.

The head of the lizard started to change its shape.

"No way! Is it turning into a grimoire!?" Arlo shouted out.

"What!?" Kenny was shocked in his whole life he'd never seen anything like this happen.

And in the fifth there lives the devil.

The book-like object the head turned into opened up and the pages started to fit in one by one until all that was left was a grimoire.

But if a clover has none, in it resides a feral untamed beast.

The glowing started to fade and the book fell into the arms of the child. "Is it over?" Rebecca asked.

As all four of them lowered their arms they saw the lizard's head had completely disappeared and the boy was holding a grimoire of his own.

Kenny quickly walked over to make sure the child was alright. "This grimoire…"

"What's wrong is it not a grimoire?" Arlo was frozen in place.

Kenny took a closer look at the grimoire. "It is but… There's not a single leaf on it".

The boy's grimoire was dark red on the front and back; it had a light brown spine and detailings and was held closed by a monster tooth and a strap. But what was most interesting was not only did the clover not have any leaves but around it was what seemed like the jaws of a beast missing both of its fangs.

"Maybe it's because he's a child?" Rebecca said.

"Possibly. But never mind that now, I'm sure the wizard king would like to hear of what happened here" Arlo said, opening the door to the carriage Eddie made.

"Yeah good idea" Rebecca climbed into the carriage.

"Come on you two" Kenny led both the kid and his small boar pet into the carriage.

The carriage ride wasn't too long and the kid was astounded by the sights of this new and unfamiliar world, especially in the capital it was overwhelming. Things calmed down once they reached the castle.

On their way to see the wizard king the four mages were asked to keep the boy and his pet in a separate room until the wizard king asked for them, and so they did. The room wasn't very big, only a few couches, tables, a balcony and another child there. A little girl with silver hair in pigtails and light purple eyes, she looked to be around the same age.

"You better not cause me trouble, they only asked me to look after you until my brother comes and gets me" The little girl said sipping on a drink.

The boy ignored her and went straight towards an open door to the balcony with his pet boar.

"Hey where are you going?" The little girl watched as the boy started climbing up the building, she panicked and ran out there to try and stop him. "Get back down here! You're going to get in trouble!" The girl quietly shouted.

The boy once again ignored her and stopped climbing to look out to the city surveying the land.

The girl was jittering about and looking around trying to figure what to do. "I can't go and get someone if they find out I let this happen…" The girl figured her best option was to get him herself. So she started climbing onto the railing and looked down and saw how long the drop is.

At the same time some people entered the room and saw the little girl on the railing. "Noelle!" The people walked to the balcony and took her off of it. "What were you thinking!" the people started scolding her.

"Up there" Noelle pointed to the boy who was watching everything.

One of the people had silver hair and a braid going down the front of their face. "Seriously, are commoners trying to die these days?!" The man opened his grimoire and mercury was created in front of him then moved towards the boy.

The boy dodged the mercury each time it came at him.

"Damn commoner, stay still!" Eventually the mercury caught the boy and brought him to the balcony. "Finally, this brat is agile".

"Now now no need to be rough, he is just a child after all" A man in a red robe and short blond hair walked over to them.

"If you don't mind me asking what would the wizard king want with a commoner?" The man didn't let the kid go and kept a hold of the boy with mercury.

"To be blunt this kid isn't from our world, and yet was able to obtain a grimoire" The wizard king said.

"What do you mean by not from our world?"

"A criminal these four were chasing" The wizard king gestured to Kenny and his group. "used a spell that from what I could understand ripped a hole between dimensions at the cost of their grimoire".

"And this commoner swapped places with the criminal".

"Yes, but there are a few more things interesting about this child," Kenny said.

"What else is there?" The wizard king asked.

"Well for starters this "creature" came with him" Kenny moved out of the way to show the small boar.

"Is it dangerous?" The wizard king asked.

"No, the child seems to have tamed it," Rebbeca said.

"And not just that but as I mentioned before his grimoire doesn't have a single leaf" Kenny said passing the child's grimoire to the wizard king.

"Not a single one?!" The man let the child go.

The child dropped to the floor and the boar ran up to him.

"You weren't kidding, not a single one" The wizard king opened the book. "Seems to be only one spell too."

"But there is only a picture, no words, how do you use it?" the man asked.

"Only one way to find out" the wizard king passed the child the grimoire.

The child looked at the picture in the book and then closed the book and walked away.

"Well looks like we won't know until he can understand us". The wizard king said.

"Well no matter, Noelle we're leaving" the man walked to the door.

"Yes brother" Noelle got one last look at the boy before leaving.

"Now then what to do with you?" The wizard king thought of putting the boy in an orphanage.

"If I may make a request" Kenny spoke up.

"Yes?"

"Would it be alright if I raised the boy?"

"Wha!-" The three mages were caught off guard by Kenny's request.

"Are you sure? From what I've heard raising a child can be just as difficult as being a magic knight" The wizard king said jokingly.

"Yes sir, I would be honoured" Kenny was serious about his request.

"Alright then, the boy is in your trusted hands then"

"Thank you sir" Kenny bowed his head.

"By the way what's the boy's name?" The wizard king asked.

"I don't think he has one, not even where he is from," Arlo said.

"How would you know that?" Eddie asked.

"Well the boy hasn't spoken a word since coming here meaning he probably doesn't have a language meaning his parents would be unable to name him".

"Astute observation. So why don't you name him then?" the wizard king suggested.

"Name him…" Kenny stared at the kid trying his best to think of a name. "I'm taking suggestions".

"Benedict?" Rebecca suggested.

"Rupert?" Arlo suggested.

"Eddie jr ?" Eddie suggested.

"Syrus?" The wizard kind suggested.

"Syrus… Yeah. Syrus" Kenny said.

"Since you're looking after him I think he should use your last name too," Alto said.

"Syrus Cindred" The wizard king said.

"Welcome to the family Syrus," Kenny smiled as Syrus looked at him confused.

"What's your wife going to think when you left home for a mission then to only come home with a new kid and an unknown creature for a pet because the wizard king let you keep a kid from another world who can not speak nor understand our language?" Eddie stated.

"Oh she wont be happy" Kenny imagined it.
