They Just Weren't…
Summary: Nick/Sara Sara reflects on the men in her life.
I have the absolute worst luck in men.
Sara Sidle grimaced after she took a sip of the brown sludge they rarely called coffee, while she sat in the CSI's break room.
"I can't agree more…which is why I want you to give my buddy a chance."
An amused voice pulled Sara out of her depressing thoughts. Her head shot up and she saw Nick Stokes leaning against the counter adjacent to her, a mischievous twinkle in his dark eyes. Her brow furrowed but after figuring out she must've said her thought aloud, she cleared her throat.
Rolling her eyes, she met his gaze, "Give it up, cowboy. I've sworn off men. I was considering celibacy."
She could of sworn she saw a glimpse of shock and disappointment flash across the Texan's strong face.
Just like that, it was gone and he smiled at her, understandingly, "A sweet thing like you?" His accent became more pronounced and he neared her. "You wouldn't be able to keep the men away."
Sara laughed scathingly, "Y'mean the one who we drag in here for questioning, that haven't been laid for a year and would take anything?'
Nick shook his head, his smile softening, and his eyes darkened, "Not only them, Sidle."
He looked at her for a moment, and Sara shifted under his intense gaze, more than a little unnerved by the direction their conversation was taking.
Suddenly, tinny small beeps interrupted them and Nick looked at his waist, at his flashing pager.
Looking up, he groaned inwardly, "So much for my little break." He nodded at Sara, a small smile playing at her lips, and turned to leave. As he walked out, he called out to her goodheartedly, tipping an imaginary hat.
"For the sake of straight men everywhere, don't go into celibacy."
Sara stared at him, a full-fledged smile threatening to break out. Damn, she fell for the worse guys. All he previous boyfriends weren't handsome enough.
They didn't get dimples when they smiled at her.
They didn't have sparkling brown eyes that she could drown in.
They didn't have tousled, dark hair that she would itch to run her hands through.
They weren't smart enough.
They weren't caring, in the least.
They weren't stubborn enough to make her want to tear out her hair, just to realize that they were just teasing her.
They didn't have the ability to make her heart stop and her knees weak whenever they walked into the same room as her.
They just wer---
Sara blinked when she finished her thought, her heart racing.
They just weren't Nick Stokes, CSI extraordinaire.
