Ominous Flame

Chapter 41

Author Notes: I am late. I am aware of this. I've gotten so behind on uploads that what was once looking like only a few chapters has now possibly doubled because I am an obsessive writer with an addiction for working late into the night after a really long, tiring day.

So much lost sleep, just to get things typed. I have a problem...and it's not going away anytime soon. Just like this story lol. I do not own Digimon, and let's...change things up a bit with a new setting shall we?

3rd P.O.V

The day was progressing way too slow for his liking. "Hmm? Hmmmmmm!" The clock itty bitty hands just weren't moving fast enough, and it aggravated him to no end. "What on earth are you doing Shinya?" It didn't help that there was really no one to occupy the birthday boy.

His father, if he wasn't still at work, was most likely battling traffic to get home. And his brother was sent out to pick up some last minutes things for the celebration later today. Leaving him to be one very bored kid.

And that boredom led to so very strange ideas to form. "Having a stare down with the clock! I'm gonna win~" If he wins-he'll be able to fast-forward time, and his party will be here quicker. With his entire family ready to give him his presents.

He could taste the birthday cake and smell the candles already! "Is that right?" His mother huffs, laughing. It really wasn't the first time either of her children has said something so absurd. Won't be the last either. She shakes her head as she crosses her arms.

Her gaze narrows as she reads the time. It was starting to get late now. Just where is her eldest? "Well if the stare showdown is getting to be a bit too much, feel free to draw or play on your game, just don't make a mess."

He should've been back by now. But...knowing him as well as she did, he probably got held up talking to the shopkeeper. "Sweet! Thanks mom." That smile on her face only widens. "Where did the time go...my babies are growing up so fast." A sigh escapes as she soaks in the peace.

Giving herself a bit of a break wouldn't hurt. However before she could even think of taking a seat she find herself startled as the phone suddenly begins to ring. Breaking the tranquil silence not even a moment later.

"Now who could that be?" It better not be her husband calling to tell her he's running late... Her spouse, though she loves him dearly would be in the dog house should he dare call to tell her that. They had been planning this birthday party for ages.

And already she was annoyed at the fact that he forgot to take time off from work today specifically because of said plans. However she wouldn't know until she found out herself. "Please, please...don't let it be him." It took a few minutes for her to make her way into the kitchen.

Which wasn't much of a surprise. She had been up since the early hours of the morning to get the house straightened up so she could cook without worry. So to say she was exhausted was an understatement.

It would be all worth it in the end, but she wasn't as young as she once was. Her shuffling, aching feet could only go so far, so fast. "Hello? Kanbara residence!" However despite it ringing quite a bit she was fast enough to reach for the phone.

The caller ID, thankfully was not her husbands', but not one she was not at all familiar with. Normally she wouldn't bother, figuring the answering machine would handle it. If it was important, then someone will leave a message.

Yet, despite that her hands bring the phone up to her ear. Something told her she had to answer it. "Yes...this is her. May I ask who this is?" How right she was...for the worst reason possible. "Wh-what!?"

Shinya swivels his head towards the kitchen. "You-are you being serious!? HOW!?" His brows furrowed in worry as he hears the sound of something clattering to the floor. "Mom?" He races in, finding both his mother and the phone down on the ground. "Mom!?" Her expression full of disbelief...and grief.

It took a bit of time for them to arrive at their hideaway with the squirming cargo. Arbormon on more than one occasion had to knock out their prisoner just so they could continue. However, they had successfully arrived. Mission accomplished.

One by one, the three legendary warriors go to one knee, bowing their heads as their kidnapped victim is dropped to the ground. "We have returned Lord Cherubimon." His shadowy figure smirks, his eyes glint as he takes in his gift.

"Well done my warriors." Finally, after all this time, his loyal entity of black fire will return. And this time, there will be no interfering from Ophanimon. His clawed hand reaches out, ready to envelope the fallen teen.

Only for for said hand to burst into flames the moment he touches human flesh. "Graaa!" Immediately the wicked celestial pulls back, enraged. "My lord!?" Even while unconscious the flames seeping out of the human was intense.

Though no longer a bright orange, it still obeyed the chosen male. Protecting him from his own creator. "Still insist on defying me Shagumon?!" Enough was enough. With his other unburned hand, he reaches.

Holding his prisoner tightly within his grasp. The flames try to burst free, to attack and incinerate, however it is easily suppressed, reduced to measly embers. "It is time to be reborn." With a swift movement, Takuya is engulfed in his flames, causing him to scream out.

Ranamon and Arbormon found themselves wincing, the intensity of the heat radiating in front of them too much. Yet they stay still, watching on. In a matter of moments the screaming comes to an abrupt halt, the flames dying into mere cinders on black and gray flesh.

Snapping his fingers, the collected fractal code Cherubimon had been holding onto surrounds the charred boy's figure. Blocking him from view. "What does thou have planned my lord?" A deep sinister laugh escapes the fallen digimon angel as he turns Mercurymon's way. A knowing look on his face.

"Mercurymon...you have Seraphimon's fractal code do you not?" There was nothing but stunned silence as minion of steel freezes in place. How...did he know? "Do not assume me a fool. I am well aware that you've held onto it. Give it to me." For a moment, Mercurymon didn't move.

Despite not having an actual face, sweat poured from his mirror, his entire being stiff. But then he grins, as if there was not a worry to be found. As if he wasn't just called out for holding out on his supposed master. "As thine wishes." Raising his arm, he releases the fractal code.

It flying off to join the others. "It is time...return to me Shagumon. In a new form, you shall do my bidding." The screaming returns tenfold as the code circles around at blinding speeds. The cries becoming more animalistic.

"The world will fall at my will, by your claws." More primal. "Evolve into a more powerful being. One that serves me and me alone. Come forth-Saldomon!" The being in front of them was a true chimera of horror.

Encased in dark red and silver armor, rough talon like claws from birdramon, two tails from greymon, six black magma wings with sharpened edges along with purple eyes hidden beneath a black obsidian mask. "Excellent." He was more beast than man as he is dropped to the ground.

Quickly landing on all fours as he snarled. Flames breathing out through his fanged mouth and his wings. "Saldomon, it is time I give my first order. I command you-eliminate Mercurymon." Before anyone had a chance to react, the newly formed slave turns.

"Ominous blaze!" Black and purple fire shoots from his wings as he pounces, pinning the warrior of steel to the ground. "Gaaaaaaraaaaa!" In just seconds, the intellectual servant melts away before turning into fractal code himself.

The plans he had made, the desire he accumulated to backstab his master of evil and control in his place was fading as fast as his metal body. All of them saw his digital egg float away. Hoping to hatch with a better future. "Good work Saldomon."

Takuya Kanbara was gone. In his place a monster far more powerful and deadly. One that took orders without question. Who showed no mercy. "May that be a lesson for you two and for all of the Digital World. Anymore that fail my expectations or betray me shall pay the consequence." Both nod their heads.

Fear was glazing their eyes as their bodies shook. The dark ages has returned once more. This time without any opposing leaders to thwart Cherubimon's assault. Although...that wasn't entirely true was it? There was still a certain few that needed to be handled.

"It is time to end this war once and for all. The three of you are to embark on a new mission. Go out and eliminate Ophanimon's chosen. Destroy the remaining legendary warriors. Do not fail me."

to be continued

Aldamon + Seraphimon=Saldomon

Author Notes: You know for such a short chapter I really enjoyed typing this one. I was able to get in on Shinya and bring about a new dramatic twist all within a thousand words. And before you ask-yes I am purposely making the author notes longer than I need them to be so i can feel better.

Look I'm reaching the end of the story and doing my utmost to make this finale a good one dammit! But of course comes the typical struggle of figuring out how to nicely end it...whether its a good or bad ending is up in the air.

Ahem. But that is (unfortunately) it for now. So as always thank you to everyone who has been reading the series. If you're liking it please feel free to fav/follow/review as it makes my day and I'll see you all next time. Tchao for now!
