A/N- Hello all, this story is a spin off of my story Cassie Mitchell in the Chicago Fire section of fan fiction. In chapter four or five it was mentioned that Cassie was with the intelligence unit for six months and that she was undercover with Adam Ruzek. It was also mentioned that that particular undercover operation was still classified, here's the story to explain what actually happened and as to why the operation is still classified almost five years later.
Cassie Mitchell was first and foremost a firefighter of the Chicago Fire Department and had been for three months, so why was she currently sat in District 21, she didn't know and quite frankly she was starting to get really annoyed after all she'd been waiting for twenty minutes by now. Sighing and standing up she looked out the window, well if you could call it a window? This so called window was tiny and about the size of a human head, Cassie groans and sits back down.
After another ten minutes finally the door opened, in walked two men one older and one younger, the younger one caught Cassie's eye straight away and smiled, being polite Cassie smiled back.
"Morning getting straight to the point we need you"
"So you need me now but not thirty minutes ago when I was shoved in this room?"
"I was on the phone, believe it or not I can't be in two places at once!"
Cassie scoffs "Ever heard of getting someone to check on me? Offer me a tea? A biscuit?"
"Do you want a tea or biscuit?"
Cassie rolls her eyes "No not now, I was just saying"
"Noted!" Voight smiled and looked at Ruzek "This is your partner, you will learn on the job from him, you need to..."
"Hold on a minute, learn on the job? Hello firefighter here or did you forget that as soon as you walked in the room?"
"I was getting to that"
"Well get there faster, we aren't getting any younger, well you most definitely aren't!"
Ruzek bursts into uncontrollable giggles before looking down at the floor when he notices Voight glaring at him "Yeah I'll just..."
Cassie smiles at Ruzek and then looks back at Voight "Ok shoot, actually don't shoot I come in peace"
Ruzek quickly left the room, Cassie giggled and again focused on Voight "Sorry please continue"
Voight rolled his eyes "Thank you, so we need you to join the intelligence unit for a undercover operation that we liase with the FBI, Ruzek will be your partner. You'll have some training for your gun licence and it will last six months"
"Six months? Are you crazy? I can't go undercover for six months!"
"The CFD have released you to me and the intelligence unit, from what they tell me you like a challenge"
"They said that?" Cassie is shocked for a brief period of time before she shakes her head again "It's not going to happen, I can't do it"
"Why?"
"I'm a single mom to a six month old girl, I can't abandon her for six months. I'm sorry you'll have to find someone else!"
"If that's the case take your daughter with you"
"I...wait really?"
Ruzek re-joins them in the room and sits beside Cassie "You told her yet that we'll be married?"
"Married? Ooh I best tell you that your a daddy then too"
"I'm not a daddy"
"You are now Ruzek, to a six month old"
Cassie smiles and pats Ruzek's arm "I'm a single mom and I wasn't going on any undercover operation without my daughter with me and if the FBI don't like it they can shove it where the sun doesn't shine"
"What's your daughters name? Got any pictures?"
Cassie grabs her phone and opens it up "Her name is Darcy and I wouldn't change her for the world"
Ruzek looked at the picture and he smiled, Darcy was cute to say the least. Cassie also showed Voight the picture and even his eyes sparkled.
Cassie's phone rang "Hello? Oh hi Eve, I'm in a meeting"
Cassie groans rubs her hand over her face and looks at Voight nodding "Eve I can't leave this meeting, Eve hold on one second. Are you ok with this?"
"Get your daughter here Mitchell"
Cassie's smile widens across her whole face "Thank you, Eve can you get Darcy to District 21?"
Cassie rolls her eyes "Why didn't you tell me your car was in the shop? OK fine I'll meet you there"
"What do you need Mitchell?"
"The strength not to kill my daughters babysitter, apart from that nothing just thirty or so minutes to go get her"
"Ruzek go with Mitchell and then we can introduce you to the rest of the team"
Ruzek stands up with Cassie and they make their way out of District 21 and towards Cassie's SUV, Ruzek fell in love with the car straight away, Cassie giggled "It's just a car Ruzek"
"Adam"
"Sorry?"
"My name is Adam, what's yours?"
"Cassidy but everyone calls me Cassie or Mitchell so I honestly don't mind"
Adam and Cassie smile at each other and get into the car, Cassie drives towards the diner they both sit in silence the whole way, Cassie parks and gets the frame of her daughters buggy out of the trunk and walks towards the diner.
Once inside they don't have to search far as the screaming of a stressed out baby was the biggest clue that they were in the right place, Cassie left Adam with the frame and run towards the cry of her baby girl, when she arrived she found Darcy in her car seat screaming and Eve on her phone ignoring the baby.
"What the hell Eve?"
Cassie lifts Darcy from the car seat and finds her diaper soaking wet "You couldn't be bothered to change her?"
"Not my daughter"
"Not...not your daughter!"
Ruzek stood beside Cassie and glared down at the teenager on her phone "Hey listen to her when she's talking to you"
"Don't worry about it Adam, I'm going to change my daughter, did you at least feed her?"
"Feed?"
Adam pushes Cassie towards the bathroom handing her the diaper bag "Go change her I've got the car seat and frame"
Adam watches as Cassie walks away and then grabs Eve's phone "Hey that's mine, give it back!"
Adam flashes his badge, Eve shuts up "Now name, age and address I'm going to make sure you never get a job as a babysitter in the city of Chicago ever, what you did to that baby is beyond cruel and I won't stand for it, for Darcy or any other child"
Eve nods "I'm sorry, I thought babysitting was a good idea, obviously not. I need to apologise to Miss Mitchell"
"Yes you do!"
Eve looked up to find Cassie back with Darcy in her arms, Darcy was sucking on her pacifier her bright blue eyes still with tears in them, Adam walked over and stroked Darcy's face "Hi sweetheart"
Darcy held her arms out to Adam, he took her in his arms and the baby settled on his shoulder and promptly fell asleep, Cassie smiled as Adam paced the floor bouncing Darcy, Cassie turned to Eve "Well?"
"Miss Mitchell I'm sorry that I didn't attend to Darcy's needs whilst under my care, it won't happen again, looking after Darcy put me off"
"Well OK then"
Eve looks at Adam "Can I have my phone back please?"
Adam hands Eve the phone and watches as the teenager runs from the diner, Cassie puts the car seat on the frame and looks at Darcy asleep and comfortable on Adam's shoulder.
"Want me to take her?"
Adam shakes his head "No I've got her, let's get back to the District"
Cassie and Adam walk out of the diner and back to the car, Cassie puts the car seat in the car and smiles as Adam secures Darcy in the seat, Cassie puts the folded down frame in the trunk and gets in the drivers side, Adam gets in but keeps looking over his shoulder checking that Darcy was OK.
"Adam she's fine, she'll sleep and then want feeding"
Adam nods and settles in to his seat, Cassie comes to realise very quickly that Adam had fallen head over heels in love with little Darcy, unbeknownst to Cassie that Adam wasn't going to be the only one in the intelligence unit that ended up falling in love with the baby, she was soon to find out.
Once back at the District, Adam got out the car quickly and got the buggy frame out of the trunk, Cassie lifted the car seat out of the car and placed it on the frame, Adam grabbed the diaper bag and walked with Cassie in side, Trudy stood from the desk and looked down at the sleeping baby.
"Didn't know you had a girlfriend and baby Ruzek"
Cassie giggles and smiles at Trudy "No we're married actually"
"Sarge this is our newest member of the intelligence unit, Cassie Mitchell"
Cassie and Trudy giggle, Adam looks on confused, Trudy relents "I've known Cassie for six months, now give me the baby"
Trudy took Darcy out of her car seat and hugged her tightly "Yeah baby girl you don't want to be stuck in that horrible car seat all the time"
Several junior officers in the area stopped and did a double take, their no nonsense desk Sergeant had turned into mush, baby mush. Trudy saw them staring "Problem?"
All junior officers shook their heads and scarpered in all directions a few bumping into each other, one junior officer walked into a wall, Adam and Cassie jumped Trudy rolled her eyes and walked to the stairs up to the bullpen "Officer Marsden there's a wall there always has been and believe it or not will be here way after you"
A muffled reply came across the waiting area "Yes Sergeant Platt, thank you Sergeant Platt"
Trudy at the top of the stairs mumbles "I'm surrounded by amateurs"
Cassie and Adam following Trudy upstairs, Adam carrying the buggy and diaper bag, at the top of the stairs, Darcy wakes up and instantly searches for her mommy, not seeing her and just seeing strange faces looking at her, Darcy started to cry.
Cassie ran up the last few steps and Trudy handed Darcy to Cassie "I know baby girl, mommies here"
"What's wrong with Darcy?"
Cassie turned to Adam "She'll be hungry, pass me the bag"
"Bag?"
Trudy slaps Adam across the back of the head "The one your holding dufus"
Trudy grabs the bag and takes out the bottle of juice, a lunch box with various snacks and a jar of apple sauce "What do you need first Cassie?"
Cassie takes out the bib and opens the lunch box to an array of cooked vegetables, Cassie attached the bib to her squirming daughter and handed her a piece of broccoli which Darcy took and devoured.
Trudy takes back Darcy and sits feeding her the finger food, the whole of Intelligence looked at Trudy, to Darcy, Darcy to Cassie and then back at Trudy. Voight appears out of nowhere and smiles at Trudy "I take it this is the little lady Mitchell?"
"Yeah this Darcy my little princess"
Voight crouches down in front of Trudy and hands Darcy a piece of dried fruit, Darcy looks at the fruit and squeals in delight and launches herself at Voight, who quick reactions catches the six month old but lands him harshly on the floor.
"Oh dear lord are you ok?"
Voight smiles from the floor "Yeah I'm OK, think someone likes me"
"She's only a baby that will change" Adam picks up the jar of apple sauce and opens the lid, he's about to dip his finger in it when Trudy slaps him across the back of the head "Owwww"
"That's for the baby are you a baby Ruzek?"
"No"
"Well don't, here feed her the apple sauce Hank"
Hank takes the jar of apple sauce and shows it to Darcy "Now would Miss Darcy want this lovely apple sauce?"
Darcy giggles and smacks her lips and smiles at everyone smiling at her, Cassie was starting to feel that she'd be accepted within the intelligence unit rather than the cold shoulder she had received from the crews at her firehouse, Darcy seemed to like them so if Darcy liked them maybe Cassie could learn to like them too?
