Thanks for Fawn_Eyed_Girl for the wealth of help and correcting my errors
Since I won't be doing Fresh Stuff this year I decided to post this fic on certain days instead of posting it on the b-day.
A/N:
Summary: Two young women travel to a new place, but a misadventure in the mountains sets them on - peculiar, shadowy path.
A story told in journals and letters.

From the diary of Princess Higurashi Kagome of Musashi
Date: third day of the first month of summer. Year XXXX
This was such a wonderful opportunity: a new chapter in both Rin's and my life. I felt compelled to commit to this travel and/or stay at the palace in this diary. And Rin started a journal of her own, so we will be able to see this part of our lives from two different angles. I will also be able to train my focus, my hand, and my memory. It feels like a small adventure to read through a diary from a trip and see all the events and details come back to mind. I wish I had a talent for drawing, like Rin, so I could adorn the pages of my diary with sketches of where we will be and what we will see. As it stands, only Rin's journal shall be enhanced so.
Princess Tsuyu was most precious in her letter of invitation.
I cannot wait to see the palace and the countryside that surrounds it. The princess has spoken so much about the woods and the mountains that spread around the estate. I most want to see the gardens that her lord husband gave her - she sketched some of the flowerbeds and ponds in the last letter and they look gorgeous.
Tomorrow we're leaving Higurashi Estate and will embark on this exhilarating adventure. Mother is anxious to allow us to travel alone, but the carriage will take us to our destination in less than seven days. The land is much more peaceful to travel than it had been when my mother was younger, but she will always worry for our safety, I think. I promised her to write whenever I can.
Now, I have to go to bed; tomorrow will be a long, exhausting day.
