Day 2 - Flower
Antho Lingua
Summary: Cedric is a flower Fae who get injured and Sofia is a lonely girl who secretly nurses him back to health. (Modern AU)
Sofia sulks look out the backseat car window, pointily ignoring the excitement of her young siblings and parents as she watches as the hustle and bustle of the city, faded to pure and untouched woodlands, as the sunlight became hidden by the thick group of trees, Sofia started to notice something to sparkle and move?
Blinking, she did a double take and saw nothing, shrugging it off as a lack of sleep, she turns her attention back to her siblings conversation with their parents.
"Daddy, are you doubly sure that this is the last move, we don't to move ever again right?" Amber said anxiously.
Roland looks through rear view mirror at Amber and reassures her for what feels like one hundredth time.
"Yes, Amber, I made sure that we never ever have to move again."
You see their dad, Roland was a former marine, he become Sofia's step dad when Sofia was about 3 years old and their Mom, Miranda became pregnant with twins, Amber and James, as a consequence, they moved around a lot, but after Sofia's 12th birthday, he decided that he was leaving Marines and moving back to his family's home out in the boondocks.
So now here they were standing in front of a dilapidated 2 story cottage that had clearly seen better days.
Sofia looks at it unimpressed and a bit disgusted.
"Dad, are you sure this is the right house?" she asked as Roland came to stand beside her, handing the preteens suitcase to her.
"Yes, I know it doesn't look like much on the outside, but nothing a little hard work will having looking it's old self, I image that your bedroom will impress you, go on and keep an eye on your brother and sister."
Sofia grumbles but shouts out, "James! Amber! Come on let's go inside!"
Without much thought the twins ran inside, ignoring Sofia's warning to be careful as she made her way upstairs, unaware that a pair of tiny eyes were watching her.
Once upstairs, Sofia walks down the dismal hall, weirded out by the decaying portraits of passed family members, as she quickly spots a door with her name on it.
Curious and excited she opens the door only to be a bit disappointed by the dismal state of it, but at least she finally had her own room.
Sitting on her bed, she looks around, spotting something sparkling coming from her empty closet, getting up she goes over and spots a dark purple bluebells, with sliver looking bells attached to it.
Figuring that it was left over from the previous owners, she put it in small vase, then proceeds to unpack her suitcase and take a quick nap before dinnertime.
Unaware that bluebells gave a mysterious glow, before fading.
Amber burst into Sofia's room, shouting, "Sofia, Mom said dinner is here." Startling Sofia out of her snooze, grumbling about annoying little sisters as she goes downstairs to eat some takeout.
After eating and playing with her siblings, it was time for bed for the twins, but Sofia decided she wanted to go for a stroll in the backyard.
"Alright, Sofia just be careful, legend has it that magical creatures inhabit the woods the surrounds us, if you respect the land, they will leave you alone, but if you don't well..." Roland said, while Sofia just scoffs as she leaves.
"Seriously magical creatures, don't make me laugh, last I checked magic is pure fiction." she mutters as she walks unaware that she accidently stumbles into the woods, when she finally takes a more careful look, she quickly realized two things, 1 she was lost and 2 she was LOST THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE! panic started to set in as she tried to find her way back, but when she trips over a tree root, the dam broke as she cried, unaware a glowing light, as Sofia saw it, she surprisingly wasn't afraid or fearful as the light simply moves down a few trees, only to look and see if Sofia was following.
Sofia quickly follows the light, running as fast as she could, until soon enough she was standing in the backyard of her new home, alone, she looks around to see and then shrugs tiredly as she makes her away back inside.
When she makes it to her room, she flops down onto her bed, glancing at unusual bluebell only for it to start glowing intensely and float up in the air, it starts to transform into a tiny human like being, with wings.
After it wakes up, Sofia just stares at it, then without any thought grabs a book and smacks the creature, knocking it unconscious.
Earlier that day...
Cedric was not have a great day, he wakes up lately, gets a lecture from his father about responsibilities of being king, gets nearly eaten by birds and snakes as he makes the long journey back home after collecting the herbs and roots along with his fellow Fees, when he spots a large metal can on wheels heading in the direction of his home.
Flying faster out of curiosity as he got closer to investigate, he failed to notice the bird making a bee line for him, but years of avoiding them, made Cedric able to sense them, as he shifts away, but unfortunately, the bird took a good chuck of his wing causing to him crash land into one of second story rooms and revert to his flower form, a purple bluebells with his royal sliver bell bracelet wrap around it.
When he finally came too, he comes face to face with a large human girl, who had the gal to smack him with a book of all things, knocking him unconscious.
Present day...
When Cedric came too again, his head was pounding and his damaged wings still ached and throbbed painfully as he slowly sits up, taking in his surroundings.
The first thing he notice was that he was laying in some sort of make shift bed, his head pounding, his wings felt limp and sore as he carefully sits up and notices that he was still in the same room, but in the closet, the girl was staring at him with both curiosity and concern.
"Are you alright? I am so sorry about knocking you out, you just startled me, I am Sofia by the way." the girl said anxiously.
The young Fae nods winces at the movement caused him pain, Sofia was quick to notice.
"Do you need Advil, I can crush it up and put in some water if you want." she suggest.
Cedric shakes his hand no, then points towards the window, where a small still garden was sitting, a few daisy like flowers were growing.
Sofia was confused but the it quickly dawns on her, "Oh you eat flowers, because you are flower fairies, I thought you looked familiar, I haven't believed in fairies and magic since I was about 9 years old and I was little obsessed." She chats animatedly as she plucks the petals off the flower and gave them to Cedric who was quick to eat them, relaxing instantly as the pain was numbed.
"What's your name?" she asked.
"I am Prince Cedric of the Fae Forest." He said but Sofia could barely hear him since he was small, but she did catch the name.
"Cedric, it means Kindness, I guess that make sense since your flower form was a purple bluebell, I have to check your wings, it would appear that you injured them."
With care Sofia looks at the damage wings and tsk sadly as she that state of them. "It looks like you won't be able fly anymore, but don't worry, I can probably make you some wings so you fly once more."
Cedric had his doubts.
For the next few weeks, Sofia got busy making Cedric some new wings using various arts and crafts and fabrics, Cedric was busy observing her and learning from her about the human world using gestures or have Cedric write down questions or answers using ink and paper, but mostly he was missing his home, he tried all types of wings that Sofia made, some were too heavy, sparkly, small or big, but slowly she was making progress and eventually she did it.
When Cedric tested out them out, he was shocked to say that they almost felt like his wings from before the accident, he was so excited to be able to fly and go home, but he also felt a bang of sadness as he saw the same expression on Sofia, who had become his friend these last few weeks and he didn't to leave her just yet, so he decided to make a offer that rarely ever given by Fae.
"Sofia would you like to come to the Fae realm and live with me?" He writes.
Sofia was floored by this request and looks at her friend sadly, "I am sorry, but I will to respectfully say no, while I would love too, I would miss my family too much, just like you miss your family, but we can stay friends."
Cedric nods in understanding and hugs Sofia as best as he could and flies out the window a large smile on his family.
Sofia smiles as well going to bed, waking up the next morning she had breakfast with her family, before heading outside and quickly climbs up a tree, watching as her young siblings run around and play.
"Sofia." A familiar voice said close to her ear, causing the older girl jump a bit before turning to be face to face with familiar face.
"Cedric." She said smiling gently.
"I have a gift for you." he holds up a bracelet of flowers to Sofia.
"This a Antho Lingua bracelet, it only craft for those that fee care about, it is extremely rare blessing, the Yellow roses represent our Friendship, Bluebell is me and purple iris is you, and the foxglove is the general flower of Fae, while Yarrow is for protection from other creature who might mean you harm, also I put some of my magical essence so that all of the magical realm will know you are friends to the Royal Fae and it will never died or wilt away."
Sofia was deeply touched by this gift and from that day onwards she never took it off, even as she grew up and moved away, starting a family of her own, she always remembers Cedric the Prince of Fae.
