It was a glare that she shot him.
He smiled sweetly and cracked another sunflower seed between his teeth, extracting the husk with his fingers, tossing the remnants into the trash barrel.
She returned to her report, fingers flying over the keyboard, until the cracking of another sunflower seed sent her finger flying from the g to the h. Scully huffed out a sigh and pinned him with another death-look. This time, he didn't smile, but wore a blank facade.
'Oh, don't you tempt me Mulder.' She though, hitting the keys on her laptop with excessive force, making it clear that she wasn't to be trifled with.
A dull silence hung over the office as Scully squinted at the screen, attempting to once again, gather her thoughts into coherence. Mulder shifted in his chair and Scully peered over at him, just daring him to-
He cracked another seed and she sat back, slammed her laptop shut. "What? What do you want?" She asked him, crossed her arms over her chest and stared him down.
"Mmm, nothin'." He said around a seed.
Scully sighed, resigning herself to once again, playing his game. "Not nothing Mulder, you've been staring at me for the past... god knows how long. What's on your mind?" She paused, waiting for his reply. She got none. "I can't work if you're going to be doing... that," She gestured towards his bag of seeds with her hand, "All day."
He shoved the bag into his desk and grinned at her, still staring, feet propped up on his desk.
Scully cringed and heaved out a heavy breath. "Mulder, just let it go already!"
Mulder still smiling sweetly, responded. "Why Scully, whatever do you mean?"
Scully whined. "Mulder, this whole Eddie Van Blundht thing." She threw her hands down at her sides and pleaded with him.
"I..." Mulder threw his hands in the air. "Said nothing."
Scully got up from her desk and stalked over to where he was sitting. So calm, so cool, so damn collected. She wanted nothing more than to knock him straight out of his seat on his ass, and kick him in the face. Instead, she glared at him.
"Okay, you can say it. I don't know you as well as you know me. Will that make you feel better? Does it make you feel good ragging on me like this Mulder?" She smacked the desk with her palm. He jumped and nearly fell from his seat.
"Or, for the sake or argument, shall we say..." She sat on the edge of his desk and crossed her arms tightly across her chest. "Are you jealous? Are you jealous of Eddie? Because you know Mulder, two can play at this game, and I know I'm-"
"Damn right I'm jealous of Eddie." Mulder said, voice raised to the point that she was glad that their door was shut. Scully's mouth clamped shut on a sarcastic reply when he moved to sit up straight in his chair, pulling his legs from the desk.
"And this isn't a game Scully. This whole thing... that it is... it isn't a game. Me wanting you isn't a game. It's a battle damn it, because I can't have you."
She stared at him, attempting not to allow her eyes to go wide with shock. "Because seeing you there with him..." Mulder continued, getting close to her face, "Made it so much harder. Because you want me too." Scully's mouth opened and closed, like a fish out of water until she had stopped attempting speech all together.
Mulder stepped away from the desk, grabbing his coat from the back of his chair in the process. He stood directly in front of her then, eyes dark, so serious.
