Author note. Chapter one will start 6 months earlier and be considered Present time all the way back when Roman and Emily first meet. This Intro only is 6 month later in the story when the relationship and plot is well established and then in Chapter 1 we jump back to first meeting.
I've never written a longer Roman /OC story and love him so I am eager to see if there are still readers for this fan base.
Introduction
6 months later
The screen door to his neighbor's house slammed and Roman lifted his head fast from where he had it leaned against his palms, his hands in his long dark hair, pulling at the roots as his elbows rested on his knees.
It was raining again, just like that first night they finally gave into their feelings and didn't push each other away any more, thinking being apart in any way was helping anything...
Now he didn't care that he was getting soaked to the damn bone as he sat out on his back steps. He had paced his deck, his yard even and was minutes from calling her, risking his number on her phone, when the door finally opened and he saw her racing out into the near darkness.
Thank God she was okay.
He had been so scared the last time he left her. Any fucking time he had to leave her with that monster the world called a husband he had to tell himself he couldn't kill him no matter how many ways he had thought about it.
And he was a doctor for God's sake. They were supposed to do no harm. Well not in this case. No way in hell was he on the wrong side of this.
He knew he couldn't leave her without him though and that is what would happen for her to finally be free and safe. She begged him to promise her that he would never leave her and he meant that with all his heart. He would have promised her the whole damn world if he could.
But that man was killing her a little more every damn day, he could see it. And so he fought with himself to stay in control, for her.
Everything about her husband made his skin crawl and he felt like he aged years between stolen moments when he could see her next. How she survived it he had no idea. She had a strength in her that far surpassed his own, that he knew. He was in awe of his girl.
And she was his. In every sense of the word. He had saved her in every way he already could without dying himself, he was that in love with her.
It was almost time. They had waited so long already for everything to be arranged and the second those passports were ready she would finally never have to go back to Hunter ever again.
He practically jumped to his feet and nearly tripped on the steps. The only light illuminating their back yards were dimly glowing from his porch and her inside kitchen light.
Roman raced to the back gate, feeling the rain soak his black t shirt, hoody and dark washed jeans more and more as he ran. He could see the sky light up in the distance as lightning flashed and then in a flurry of motion, she hurled herself into his open arms.
They held each other tight, falling to the wet ground, the rain soaking through their clothes as he felt her small body just clinging to him. He wrapped her in his arms, shielding her from everything he could at that moment.
God she felt so good in his arms. So perfect. So home.
His large hand cradled her head in his palm reminding him how much smaller she was than him when they were very much the same age and he was a full foot taller than her too. They didn't say anything and he didn't snap at her for making him wait either.
Everything around them just fell away as they curled up on the wet ground and held each other.
Her arms wound around his neck, pulling her body tight to his. They hadn't even kissed yet and he knew she was just reveling in how safe he felt. She had told him that so many times already, how soothed she felt just wrapped in his arms and he let her lay her head snuggled in against his neck as long as she needed. Her jean clad legs curled in at his side, her thin sweater and camisole was already so wet it looked sucked to her skin.
"God Em, I was so worried." Roman breathed in her ear. "He keeps saying that you guys are moving soon, and I never know if all of a sudden you will be gone in the middle of the damn night baby."
His girl just buried her head in deeper against him and started kissing his throat. The rain was pelting down now and so he could barely feel the featherlight presses of her lips to his chilled skin.
"I'm okay sweetie," she assured him, her kisses moving higher up his chin. He bent his head and met her mouth hard and fast as his lips crashed down on hers, her arms tight around his neck, her fingers pulling at the loose and thick strands of his hair. "Mmm, don't ever stop.." she murmured against his lips as they kissed.
"Never, you are mine Emmie..." he groaned against her lips. "All mine..." He had no intention of ever stopping kissing her. Hell, he wanted to be the one to take her away from this nightmare that was her life.
Their literal prison.
Watching her go back into that house every night, back to him...killed Roman every time he had to witness it.
And her husband so far as he knew was none the wiser. Thank God or he had no idea how much worse it might be for either of them. But right then he didn't want to think about Hunter or his posse of assholes or anything other than his girl in his arms.
Roman was sitting on the wet grass, leaning his weight on the fence separating their yards and pulled her onto his lap. HIs body could not deny how hungry he was for her and his hips unconsciously grinded up against hers as he cradled her head, tilting it slightly just to prolong his kiss and delve his tongue deeper in her mouth.
She was already pulling back from his mouth, her small hands cupping his face. "He won't be much longer Rome. He said he would be home any minute. I barely got back before he did." She dropped her head to his chest and he felt her shaking in his arms.
Roman's heart was breaking knowing what was coming. She couldn't be caught out here like this with him. Hunter would end him. And he had all the power and authority to do it. She was still shaking and he only held her tighter.
"I'm trying.." she whimpered into his already soaked shirt. "I can't go back to him anymore. I can't... I love you SO much and I hate him." She lifted her head, her eyes puffy from crying but with a fire burning deep in her, the passion he loved so much in her. "I hate, " she literally spit the word out as he stroked his palms down her face, trying to wipes the tears away. "I hate the power he has over us...over me, over you baby."
"Hey, love, I am SO sorry," Roman whispered into the cool air between them. He could see the fading bruise, even in the dim light. She had covered it with makeup the best she could he knew but the rain had been slowly washing it away, exposing the darker angry colors and the literal hand print around her neck.
Roman glared at the damage, knowing how much it had hurt her when it happened. He could hear her cries from his bedroom window a week ago as her ass of a husband had held her down with his hand around her throat as he took her violently on their bed. He didn't have to see it to know and she had stumbled weakly to his back door and into his arms the second the monster was gone and off to work for the day.
He had punched a hole in the wall in his bedroom just to keep himself from going over there and ripping that man apart that morning. His knuckles were bloody when he heard the tiny rapping on his back door and knew it was her. But she didn't even notice his injuries, or if she did she didn't say anything then.
All morning he had held her, cradled in his arms, wrapped in the blankets on his bed and asking nothing in return. He had kissed her all over, soothed her body with any kind of tenderness and love that he could.
She at first wanted him to touch her there, make the bad memories just that...memories. But carefully undressing her, he found she was bleeding a bit and she cried out in pain at any touch so he just got a warm cloth and tried to take away the pain any other way he could.
He lay with her in his arms, wrapping her in his strength letting her cry, scream, sleep, anything to just be that safe place for her to let go in. He stayed awake and with one eye to the street to see if anyone came by. Or if her ass of a man came back home suddenly but the street all morning was quiet and empty and he treasured the time to just be there for her.
After a few hours he helped her back home before lunch and got a bath ready for her to sooth her aching muscles and helped her in before he hated leaving her again. But she had begged him that he had to go. He had been incredible and done so much already and she just needed to try to relax.
He reminded her it would not be long now and they would be free to run away and she had forced a smile to her lips before he slipped out the bathroom door. He knew the smile was forced. He knew it was getting harder and harder for her to stay and pretend, but they were so close to the finish line. So close.
Damn everything, that the passports he couldn't get till next freaking month. A month felt like an eternity yet. He could run with her already but without a way out of the damn country would it even make a difference? Would it be enough? Everything else was slowly falling into place but slowly was driving him crazy.
No, he knew with her husband's connections that it wouldn't. He needed to be patient.
But the woman he loved more than life itself was crying in his arms.
Fuck patience.
Roman drew in a deep breath and lifted her from his chest, his eyes gazing deep into hers. "Em, lets just go. We can figure something else out on the road babe. We can. I can protect you."
She was already shaking her head to his pleadings and looking around on the ground beside them before she scooped up a wrapped up bag and pushed it into his hand. "No, we can't risk it. You know we can't Roman. Here is the last of it. He doesn't know about the account my mom had before she died. He had no idea I had any money besides our joint account. I closed the account and took the rest. We can use this right?"
Roman nodded and took the bag. He didn't care about money but she was right if they were going to disappear it would take plenty and he had maxed out on everything he could and still hadn't sold his house back home yet in time like he wanted.
"Rome, you know we can't go until we have found her. We can't!" She was the one pleading now. "And there is something else you need to know."
Roman sat up straighter in the grass and saw the reflection of lights in the distance coming from down the road. He pulled her up gently from his lap and peered out to see sure enough the bastards car was heading up the street. Fuck!
He turned his attention back to her and was already aching inside knowing their time was almost up. "What Em? What else? You need to get back inside. He's almost here."
Emily turned her head and looked up toward their driveway and then back to him, her hands gripped his arms tight. "Honey, I'm pregnant. I just found out this afternoon and had suspected it already for while but snuck in to see a doctor when I went to the bank and they confirmed it. I'm over 12 weeks."
Pregnant? Now? His mind was spinning and his head darted back to see the car door open and close as her damn husband started up the walkway. "Oh my...Emmie. I..." He felt his tongue had grown three sizes in his mouth as he stared at her.
She cupped his face, swiping the dark locks of his hair back from his cheeks. "It's yours Roman. Yours. Ours. I know it for sure cause the reason he freaked out and was so violent that morning was because he found out he can't have more kids. After the accident..." Emily just pulled his face down to hers as his eyes blinked away the water.
"Its your baby Roman. I promise so we need to get the hell out of here before he finds out cause he knows he can't get me pregnant and I have already had morning sickness a lot but just told him I felt fluish." Her eyes went back to the house and he could now hear the asshole calling for her and saw the lights flicking on in their house. She needed to go.
Roman still could barely process what she said as she pulled his lips down hard on hers. He kissed her back just as deeply and she pulled away and shoved him down fast to the ground as the sound of their back screen door opened and the porch flooded with light.
"Emily! Where the fuck are you?"
With a frown and another quick kiss she ran back around the gate and he just leaned there against the fence hardly able to process her words. It felt surreal. He wanted to be happy and spin her up in his arms at the news and here he was instead hiding behind his fence as he could hear her husband yelling curses at her. No matter how undone he felt right then he couldn't let her face that ass by herself if he could help it.
He scrambled fast along the side of his 4 feet fence to his deck and up the steps opening the door loudly and then letting it slam shut behind him. His doctor coat was laying on the deck just outside of where it was raining so he quickly slipped it on.
He walked out onto his yard and nodded a hello to Hunter pretending to just have gotten back from work too and wandered closer. He could hear the couple fighting more and the idiot had barely been home a minute and was already mad at her! He could not hate him more!
"I'm right here, " she called out but not before Roman watched her husband storm over and grab her by her throat! She gasped and dropped their cat who yowled and scrambled away.
Roman strode right up to the fence his temper already flaring but he had to keep it in check or he had no idea how much worse this could escalate. "Hey. Are you guys okay? I heard yelling," he called out, pretending to sound concerned between gritted teeth.
He had his hand clenched around a screwdriver just out of view from his tool box that was laying open on the table nearby and it took everything in him not to jump the damn fence and put the screwdriver in Hunter 's skull!
Hunter turned to him. "We are fine. How was your day Doc?" He was still wearing his police uniform, badge and gun clearly visible. He smirked like this was a game, that it was fucking fun for him to have his hand around his wife's throat. He looked almost daring, teasing like he would love for Roman to do something more. Did he know about them?
Roman glanced fast at his loves face and she had her own hands up fighting to pull the hand off her throat before he shoved her to the ground. She was begging Roman with her eyes not to do anything. He swallowed hard.
She was carrying his baby. His. She was HIS.
God damn it, he wanted to kill freaking Sergeant Hunter Helmsley.
He didn't answer but Hunter kept on talking. It looked like he didn't care now why Emily was out in the back yard even though Roman could hear her trying to explain that she was just looking for their cat. That Sugar had gotten out of the house again.
But Hunter had other things on his mind and was still staring back at Roman and ignoring her. Roman had to think of something. There had to be some way he could protect her more tonight. His nerves were fried and even more so from hearing about his baby.
Tonight he just needed her. More than ever.
Roman cleared his throat and wiped his hair from his forehead. "Um, I wanted to ask you man, if you wanted to come by for a drink. I had a successful surgery tonight on a really high profile patient...and um his staff gifted me a full bottle of bourbon that I was thinking of digging into if you were interested?"
Anything to keep him away from her tonight...even if Roman couldn't have her himself at least maybe he could get the famous Sergeant totally wasted so he fell right to sleep. He could see Hunter thinking about it and Roman waited with baited breath.
But as he was silent and he saw Emily pull herself up to standing beside her husband again he saw two other police cars whip around the corner and onto their street.
Hunter smiled and threw his arm around his wife and pulled her in against him, like his choking her a mere minute ago didn't happen. "Well you see that's real nice of you Doc. But I got plans of my own tonight. You see I wrapped up a huge case tonight and got promoted to Captain, so me and the boys..."
Roman groaned inwardly without saying a word. No, no, no. He knew what that meant and his eyes quickly flitted to hers and he saw her shut hers slowly. They both knew what that meant.
"You are welcome to join the party Reigns. I know you had fun your first time..." Hunter trailed off with a knowing smirk on his face. "Although I think this time I'm going to keep my wife to myself if you don't mind. The guys brought some girls from downtown that wanted to get out of their tickets and couldn't pay them..so you can get your lap dance from one of them this time. That part of the fun was a one time deal and only for your first time coming to one of my parties. Some other lucky bastard will get some one of one time with you tonight right hon?"
Emily didn't say a thing and merely nodded at him and Roman could see she again forced a smile to her lips. But he could see the pain in her expression. Hunter didn't see it. No, he wouldn't be looking that closely or care but Roman could see it and it gutted him.
Hunter turned them around as he started to head back in the house, his palm on Emily's back and as he walked it wandered down to give her ass a squeeze. "Oh and bring that bourbon. I'm sure we will all love to celebrate with you too."
Roman nodded politely, wanting to gag and while feeling his throat closing up at the expression on his girls face at that moment. She had turned her head and mumbled something about still getting the cat and her husband just shrugged and walked in the house and told her to hurry up. He slammed the door and shut off the back lights and they were finally alone again.
Roman could hear the other cops talking as they headed inside and Hunter's voice joined them. Emily hurried back to the fence and he literally had no idea what to say. Again the idea of just taking her away without the passports ran through his mind.
Hell the idea of kidnapping her right from her back yard, dump her in a sack and in his trunk and just gone, living in a freaking cave for the rest of his life sounded good right about now.
She looked back at the house and the closed back door, stood on her tip toes over the fence and pulled his head to hers, capturing his lips in a hungry and passionate kiss. He held her like that at first just to sooth the fear he knew she was feeling about another damn party and what it did to her. What her damn husband did to her that he still couldn't stop from happening.
Emily sunk into him, pulling on his neck and tangling her fingers in his hair. He knew she was desperately trying to draw in strength from him and was he giving her as much as he could offer her as she held him so tight and didn't want to let go.
He held her head too, his fingers woven in her wet hair too as he opened more for her, sucking in her tongue and moaning into her mouth. He broke away fast when a band of light shone from the house and he was scared someone could see them. The last thing she needed was anyone finding out more tonight. He would protect her any damn way he could.
"I love you Emmie, both of you," he whispered hating letting her go, every single time it was forced on him. He had lost count the amount of goodbyes this backyard had seen already.
She smiling so sweetly at him and again he was in awe of her strength. He wanted in that moment to kiss her belly. To just have her lay in his arms and talk to his baby. To just be normal with her. Why was that so much to ask?
"And I love you my Superman." She had called him that since that first night when he'd been her hero and he loved the nickname.
Emily glanced back to the house and he knew she needed to go. "I know you will hate it but please come, for me. I can fake a headache or something early I promise. At least you can be there with me."
Roman nodded knowing he would do anything she wanted, but he damn well would hate it. "You mean I'm not supposed to enjoy the prostitutes your husband is throwing at me?" he teased her.
She shook her head. "Hell no. I'll scratch their eyes out if they touch you," She smiled and kissed him hard once more before pulling back.
He laughed. " Ooh jealously sounds sexy on you baby," he teased and pushed her to hurry up and get inside. But they both knew how bad things could get when those cops got drunk and the mood between them fell fast. Those chocolate eyes looked up at him with so much fear in them.
Without another word he knew what she was feeling and thinking. "I know baby, I know. " Roman soothed her and pressed a tender kiss to her forehead. "I won't leave you alone with them I promise."
She nodded solemnly and walked up the steps away from him and scooped up their cat and was back in the house.
In her prison.
He sighed and headed back toward his place. If it was her prison then he wouldn't let her face it alone. He had needed to be there last time as much as she was so shocked to see him there after everything they knew about what went on. She hated that he was there and kept pushing him away for his own safety too. She had no idea how much he did it for her and what he all did to get close enough...what it took to get where he needed to be.
This time he wasn't the center of attention and he knew what to expect and this time it was not just the woman he loved in there...it was the mother of his child.
Roman scooped up the bag of money before he forget it out there and shook his head, his body still soaked from the rain. He was just about to head in to grab the bourbon and change quick when his beeper rang.
An emergency? Now? Couldn't other people just not need saving for one damn night?
For fucks sake! He could not leave her in that house without him...not again. Not knowing how her ass of a man acts when he is drunk with his buddies. No. No. No.
Cursing more, he threw the screwdriver across his lawn and it embedded itself in the fence on the other side of the yard. Not tonight. What the hell else could go wrong?

If you liked it and would be interested in more. Please let me know! Thanks! I took a break from writing for awhile and wrote for the Vampire diaries fandom before this. So right now I am using my husbands fan fiction page now and explore more of my love for WWE and all things Roman. There will be Dean and Seth in this story too and possibly more not sure yet. Wrestling has become my comfort show and my oxygen and I wanted to honor that too by sharing my love for writing and exploring more than just VD written stories.
