Concrete Angel

I know that Ryou is a guy and that Concrete Angel is a song about a girl that dies but it just worked so perfectly with this story.

She walks to school with a lunch she packed

Nobody knows what she's holding back

Wearing the same dress she wore yesterday

She hides the bruises with a linen and lace

Ryou woke up early to dress himself so that no one would see the bruises that Bakura had left on him last night. He packed his lunch and headed off for school. He prayed that nobody would notice that he was wearing the same clothes that he had been wearing for days.

The teacher wonders but doesn't ask

It's hard to see the pain behind the mask

Bearing the burden of a secret stone

Sometimes she wishes she were never born

Ryou see the questions in his teachers' eyes and so he struggles harder to keep the mask in place so that the dreaded questions will never be asked. He hears Bakura screaming at him mentally. Ryou cringes. He wonders if he was only put here to be Bakura's punching bag. He wishes that he had never gotten the Shennen Ring. That he was never born. He hates this life. Bakura knows this. Beats it into him. Tells him he's worthless. That he should never have been born. That he is just taking up space here on the planet.

Through the wind and the rain she stands hard as a stone

In a world that she care as a bird

But her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place where she's loved

Concrete Angel

Any more he no longer lives on food and water. Ryou now lives on dreams. His dreams are his only defense against his torturer and master, Bakura. Like a bat shrinks away from light, Bakura shrinks away from dreams of love and freedom. Bakura tries to beat these thoughts from Ryou's mind but it never works.

Somebody cries out in the middle of the night

The neighbors hear but they turn out the light

A fragile soul caught in the hands of Fate

When morning comes it will be too late

Ryou sees the knife coming and cries out. We look to the window to see that no lights are on next door. The next morning when Ryou doesn't come to the door Yugi decides to just barge right on in to find out what is going on. He heads up to Ryous' room and the sight that greets him is not pretty. There is blood everywhere and Ryous' body on the floor in the middle of the room. Bakura is sitting on the bed crying. You could tell that he had been crying for a while because the bed and everything around him is soaked with water. Yugi flipped over poor Ryou's body and found at least ten stab marks and the knife not lying too far away from the body. Yami immediately comes out to ask why Bakura had killed his hikari. Bakura meekly answered that he was going to teach him a lesson for almost slipping up and letting someone see his pain and anguish and that instead he wound up stabbing him.

A statue stands in a shaded place

An angel girl with a Neptune face

A name is written on a polished rock

A broken heart the world forgot

Yugi broke down crying at the funeral. Shen, Yami, and Joey took Bakura out back and beat him to a bloody pulp to teach him a lesson about killing his son and their friend. They had a statue carved in memory of Ryou. A giant change of heart card with his name near the bottom. Most everyone from school was there. Even though almost no one knew him. Everyone only slightly remembered the quiet, white-haired boy. At the reception everyone who knew him well sat together and cried.

There you go.

Read and review.
