Quicksand

Chapter 20

Days Later

"I thought we could talk." Lucas announced.

Ellison looked up from his Ipod and took out his headphones.

"What were you just talking about.?" Ellison asked.

"Have some breakfast then i want to talk to you." Lucas said.

And with that they ate french toast. Bacon and scrambled eggs.

On a rain filled Monday morning.

"What do you want to talk about.?" Ellison asked.

Leaving his Ipod and cellphone to the side.

His backpack near the front door.

"I want you to really hear and understand what i'm saying."

"I loved you're mom very much. And given the circumstances beyond our control we got a second chance to be a family. Which i will always cherish."

"I'm dating a new woman. Her name is Lindsey Strauss. She is an editor and she's becoming important to me and i want you to meet her. Since you are the most important part of my life."

"Would you want to meet her.?" Lucas asked.

Ellison thought it over for a few moments then looked to his father.

"Sure dad. I would really like to meet her." Ellison replied.

It wasn't until Ellison was out of the home. On his way to school.

Did he begin a deep internet search on Lindsey Strauss.

...

"So which guy friend are we meeting with.? Nathan.? Marvin.? Antwon.?" Clay questioned as he walked over to mirror.

Where Brooke finished getting dressed.

"None of them. Its Lucas. Nathan's brother." Brooke replied.

"Why am i just hearing that you're friends with him.? I mean his brother is one of my clients."

"Why do i feel like you're hiding something.?" Clay asked.

Brooke sighed deeply. "Lucas and I have a history. We dated back in high school. And feelings developed later on but that doesn't matter now."

"I've waited to find what i've found in you."

"And what we're building is the only important part of my present and future." Brooke replied.

...

Lindsey glared at her boyfriend. Shocked and taken off guard that minutes before this dinner.

He announces to her that his history with Brooke. Goes beyond friendship.

"You kept pushing and questioning about my history with Brooke."

"I wanted to leave it at friendship but you wouldn't let me."

"I'm honest with you. But what i felt for her has no impact on what you and I have." Lucas assured her.

"What exactly is that Lucas.? I barely know you're friends. I haven't met you're son. Where is this going.? Or are you just buying time until you can be with the person you actually want.?" Lindsey asked.

"You have dinner with them. I'm going home." Lindsey announced.
