Well It's About Time
Not all men where created equal, while that's not fair that's unfortunately the truth of the world. And that became much more blatant when humanity developed Quirks, giving most of the planet's population to manifest some sort of power. Anything from the ability to glow in the dark, to controlling an element like fire, or even being able to fly. Suffice to say that when Quirks began to manifest across the world, it changed dramatically, that wasn't to say that everyone had these types of abilities however. Despite people with quirks taking up a vast majority of the planet's population, those without power still existed.
And in a world where not all men where made equal, they were the ones faced with the most inequality.
One of those happened to be Izuku Midoriya, an 5 year old boy standing between the victim of a few children his age and their victim, another boy. "Why are you being so mean Kachan?" the green haired boy asked with tears in his eyes. The boys in front of him, led by a child with spikey blonde hair, looked at him in amusement. His friends behind him on either side snickered in laughter.
One of them had large wings extend out from his back, and the other's fingers elongated while the boy in front of them slammed his fist into his hand, causing a explosion. "So the Deku thinks he can play hero huh?" he asked as he and his friend took a step forward to the upset boy.
"Hey! You….stamp!" the five boys stopped and turned to see another one their age, this young boy with black hair that was combed back, he was pointing at the group of boys about to pick on the green haired one. "No being fighting!" he said.
The three boys looked amongst themselves before bursting out into laughter, "What are you even saying? Are you stupid?" the lead boy asked, the new arrival's face showing confusion before turning red in frustration.
"I said stop you bunch of jerks!" he said in English, his words making the kids pause before laughing to themselves once again. The foreign boy grew more frustrated, before the lead boy could recover from his bout of laughter, a small fist hit him in the side of the face. Izuku's jaw dropped along with the two other boys behind Kachan. When he turned back to the foreign boy, there was a fire in his eye that made him instantly regret what he had done.
Within a few minutes, both him and Izuku where on the ground of the playground with a sufficient amount of scuff on their clothing and persons. As Izuku got up, he looked over to the boy who came to his aid. He watched as the other boy sat up and rubbed a sore spot where Kachan had blasted him, the boy looed over to him curiously and Izuku quickly stiffened before bowing his head in gratitude, "Th-Thank you for helping me!" he nervously said, lifting his head to look up at the other boy he was met with a frustrated look.
For a moment the green haired boy was worried, however they were put to rest when he spoke, "No…..probe-lamb?" he said unsurely. Izuku tilted his head curiously and the other boy sighed in frustration, "Sorry, my Japanese….not very good." he said with a shake of his head.
Izuku let out a small breath in understanding, "Oh! That's ok!" he assured with a nervous smile before looking down in relief, he thought he had regretted stepping in to help him. That was when he noticed the boy's shirt, it had a paw print on it with an atomic symbol around his chest, "Hey! That's science dog's logo!" he said in recognition.
The boy's eyes widened, "You know Science Dog!?" he asked excitedly, Izuku nodded with as much enthusiasm, he was a popular Manga character that even had a tv show! "Favorite issue?" he asked suddenly.
Izuku was shocked by the sudden question, kids his age didn't really talk to him about hero stuff, so he couldn't mess this up! He cupped his chin in thought, "Uhhh….the one where he fights the big robot!" he said, the other boy beamed and nodded.
"Good one! Mine like his origin best! With Quirks Animals rare." he said, wincing as he realized he messed up the order of the wording. Izuku nodded in agreement nevertheless, thrilled that someone else was a big fan of heroes like he was. The boy looked down at his own hand, "I'm Quirkless, but I figure if a dog can have quirk suddenly, maybe me can one day." he said with a shrug before looking at a shocked Izuku. Before he could react, tears began to leak out of the young boy's eyes, the foreigner stood up in a panic, "I'm sorry! I didn't want make you sad!" he said apologetically, not meaning to upset the other boy.
Izuku wiped his tears away, "No you're ok! It's just…I'm quirkless too….." he trailed off sadly as he dried his eyes. The other boy let out a 'ooooh' of understanding, Izuku decided to take a chance, "I'm Izuku. Izuku Midoriya!" he said with a large bright smile as he could muster.
The other boy smiled back, "I'm Mako Metuki…..you want to see my comic collection?" he offered.
10 Years Later
Mako Metuki had grown in a lot of ways in the ten years since he moved to Japan with his parents, he now stood at Five and a half feet tall, a few inches taller than his best friend Izuku, with a more angular face that he inherited from his father and a pair of dark brown eyes like his mother had. However one thing he didn't outgrow was his love of comics and manga, while it was a uncommon nowadays considering there were real life superheroes in the world, comics still sold well, particularly ones about actual superheroes.
Those were more PSA messages though, Mako preferred ones that told an original story, same with Manga. The one he was currently reading in his hands was about an outbreak that-
"Mako! Are you ready yet?" his mother called out from outside his room, making him jump as he was drawn out of his story. Closing the book he set it down on the nightstand beside his bed and walked out the door of his room to the spacious living roof of their apartment. Well Mako called it an apartment but it was honestly more like a loft, with an open living room that connected to the kitchen against the wall where his mother was busy pouring herself some coffee.
Kali Mutuki was a prosecutor, she had gotten her license in the United States and made a good name for herself with the district attorney's office of Chicago. However after they had Mako, she had moved back to Japan with her husband and son since it was where the more elaborate cases were being set up. Kali had black hair that was tied back in a bun, wearing a dark business suit with a white undershirt. She was quite beautiful as her husband often told her, she had always thought herself to be average looking but when her husband said that? It couldn't help but make her blush, Mako thought it was kind of gross when they did such loving acts in front of him but at least they loved each other.
"Ahhhh, that's what I need….oh your up! Good. Have you seen your father?" she asked as her son walked into the kitchen in his middle school uniform. Mako reached up to the cupboard and pulled out a pre-wrapped breakfast burrito, as he stuck it in the microwave he shook his head to his mother. The woman sighed, "I woke up and he was gone this morning, must have had something he needed to do." she said in disappointment.
"Hang on a sec." Mako said before pulling out his scroll and typing in 'Omni-Man', the screen came up with a live video of a large muscular man in a red and white uniform lifting up a large section of a wall and throwing it at a villain who looked like a villain who could increase his size, he also had a head that looked like the same shape as a shark. "He's downtown fighting some bad guys. That new guy Kamui Woods is there." he said before he got a photo message from Izuku.
Kali's face scrunched up in confusion, "Kamui Woods…..can't he make wood? Or control it? Or am I thinking of someone else?" his mom asked.
Mako watched the video for a second, watching as the new hero who had wooden arms ha branches suddenly reach out and pull him up onto a train track. "I don't know, Izuku probably does, he was talking about him the other day…..I like his costume though, pretty cool." he said, his mom looking over his shoulder as she walked past him to get her phone, humming in agreement.
"Who am I thinking of who can make wood?" she asked herself as she looked through her messages.
Opening it up the message from Izuku he smiled, it was a picture of fight itself but taken from the view of the crowd, "Oh hey! Izuku is there." he said, showing the photo to his mom who smiled.
"Oh that's nice!" Kali said with a higher pitch to her voice, showing that she found it cute. The microwave 'dinged', and Mako retrieved his food from inside it, he took a bite as he watched the rest of the live video. His father punched the villain up into the air from the train station's tracks but before he could follow up a giant foot shot into frame and kicked the villain off tracks and finished him off.
He nearly choked when he saw the look of bizarre confusion on his father's face that the camera captured, the camera went off Omni Man and focused on the new arrival, a giant woman with a skintight outfit, 'I'm Mt. Lady everyone, nice to make you ass-cquaintance.' she greeted the crowd, bending forward and showing off her….assets to the crowd.
Mako closed the window when his mom gave him a look, "Mako, sweetie, I understand you have urges because you're a teenager. But please, no porn in the kitchen." she said dryly.
Mako recoiled, "What! It wasn't-gross! No! Mom, don't say that word." he said with a disgusted look on his face from his mother saying that word. "Mom's aren't allowed to say that."
Kali set a hand on her hip with an amused look, "Oh I'm not? Porn. Porno. Skinflick." she said, watching as her son's face scrunched up with every word.
He turned on his heel, "I'm leaving now!" he said loudly, taking his breakfast with him despite his now somewhat ruined appetite. He heard his mom buckle with laughter before taking another drink of her coffee.
"Love you!" she called out.
"If you loved me you wouldn't say porn!" he called back. She took a deep breath that she knew he would hear, "I'm putting in my earbuds!" he responded, his mom bowing her head in laughter.
Walking over to the elevator that led up to the loft, he sighed as he hit the ground floor button, it took five minutes to get to the ground floor, fifteen to get to school, but if he could fly like his dad he could get there within three. He took a deep breath before letting out a sigh "Any day now…..any day now." he said to himself in disappointment.
Mako tried keeping his eyes open as class went on, but honestly it was a challenge with their homeroom teacher. Looking over to his left he saw Izuku scribbling in one of his many notebooks dutifully, his best friend really hadn't changed that much over the years like him, the only thing that did was he was taler and his hair was somehow even messier then before. His dad noticed him in the crowd and stopped to talk with him for a second to see how he was doing before taking off for some other emergency. "Now then, as third years today you'll be filling out these career forms….." the teacher said, trailing off as he looked down at the forms.
He then promptly tossed them aside, "But who am I joking, you all want to be heroes!" he said uncaringly, the cheers of the class was accommodated with each of them showing of their quirks, save for three of the students.
Mako and Izuku gave each other an exhaustive look, Izuku at least raised his hand politely while Mako laid hi elbow on his desk and laid his cheek down into his palm. Their teacher wasn't the most inclusive when it came to their quirkless students, then again most teachers at the school were like that. It was a pain to have to deal with but there wasn't anything he could do about it.
"Oi teach, don't lump me in with these losers." a cocky voice said that made Mako groan to himself. Over near the center of the room was Katsuki Bakugo, the same spikey haired blonde who Mako punched in the face on the playground. Izuku had known him since they were just little kids and always called him Kachan, Mako personally thought he was an asshole, and Izuku agreed, but for some reason his friend seemed to be convinced that he was a decent guy underneath it all. The blonde boy leaned back in his seat and leapt up onto his desk, "I aced the mock exam, and I'm the only one here with a quirk strong enough to get into U.A.! One day, I'll even surpass All Might and take his spot as the Number One hero!" he said boastfully.
…yeah somewhere deep down under all…..that, I'm sure is a decent person. Mako thought, dripping with sarcasm.
"Oh yeah, Midoriya, Mako, you two are also going for U.A. aren't you?' the teacher said off handedly.
Mako's face hit the desk as Izuku shook in his seat, their homeroom teacher was officially the worst. As evidenced by the entire class laughing in mockery of them. "Are you two kidding!? You can't get into the hero school because of grades! You gotta have quirks!" one of the students called out.
Izuku looked around with a flushed face, "A-actually that's not a rule anymore! they accept people who don't have any-" he started before Bakugo exploded his desk, making Izuku fall back in fear. Mako was on his feet in an instant, rushing over to his friend's side to help him up off the ground and glare at Bakugo.
"Teach are you going to let him do that?" he asked, looking over Bakugo's shoulder to the teacher who seemed exasperated.
"Bakugo, please return to your seat." she said tiredly before returning to the board. the explosive teen gave them one last look before scoffing and doing as he was told. Turning to Izuku, his friend gave him a grateful smile before looking down in disappointment. Mako sighed, holding his hand out to his friend who grabbed it, he helped him up onto his feet.
The rest of the day passed without much a big incident, when the final bell of the day rang, he and Izuku stayed behind as they packed their bags, "So you were there when my dad teamed up with that new hero Mt Lady and Kamui Woods right?" he asked his friend as he put his notebook into his bag. Izuku nodded, "Ok settle something, Kamui, does he make wood himself or can he control it?" he asked, recalling the convocation he had with his mother.
Izuku shook his head, "He can't make wood, he has parts of his body that are made of wood that he can control." he explained.
Mako gave him a confused look, "What? No, that means he's making wood." he corrected.
Izuku shook his head, "That's not making wood if it's a part of his body though." he argued.
"No that's…..ok, you have hair. Correct?" he asked rhetorically, "That means you make hair because it grows out of you, if he has wood that grows out of him then he makes wood." he reasoned. Izuku opened and closed his mouth, cupping his chin as he thought about the process as Mako described it.
"Huh, I guess so, but if that's true does that mean it can be shaved off? I didn't really see any of the wood he generated become detached from him. And if so is it like him losing a finger or is it just getting cut for him?" he mumbled mainly to himself, showing Mako that he had accomplished his job and gotten his point across. He snapped his fingers, drawing Izuku out of his mumbling. "Right! Sorry." he apologized as his friend waved him off.
Izuku had developed a habit of muttering to himself when it came to things that got his attention, usually that would just mean quirks that he found to be fascinating. Despite not having one himself ironically, he would often joke that he would make an amazing support gear maker, but Izuku was set on the hero course of U.A. "I should write that down now that you mention it." he said as he reached into his backpack and pulled out one of his personal notebooks.
Mako snorted, but as Izuku was about to open it, the notebook was snatched out his hand by Bakugo, he looked down on the pair dismissively as he waved the loose booklet back and forth, two of his friends watched in amusement as Mako stood with a aggravated look on his face. "Give it back." he stated.
"What even is it Bakugo?" one of his friends asked.
Mako turned to him with a glare, "It's something that doesn't belong to him. Now give. It. Back." he said, walking up to Bakugo. A short 'pop' made him jump back as Bakugo examined the cover of the book.
"Hero Notes?! Are you serious Deku?" he asked, Izuku looking down in embarrassment in his seat as he let out a hollow laugh to try and try and appease Bakugo.
"Y-Yeah, really funny Kachan." he began before he slammed the journal against his hand as it exploded. Izuku let out a cry of dismay while Mako sneered at him. "Th-That's so mean!" he said to himself mostly before Mako reached out and took the semi scorched book from Bakugo's hand, making him turn to him.
"Better throw that crap in the trash dumbass!" he growled out challengingly to the other quirkless student. "Better yet know your place, neither you should be applying to U.A! I'm gonna be the first student from this backwater school to get in, so here's some advice to you both;" he said before laying a hand on each of their shoulders, they could both smell the bunning of his palms as he put on a 'nice' smile, "Give up on U.A." he said before walking off with his friends.
Mako handed Izuku back his notebook, "But if you want a quirk so bad, try taking a nose dive off the roof and pray you get a quirk in the next life!" he mocked, Mako grit his teeth before turning to Bakugo. He wanted to knock his block off for that, and even though he might get in trouble for punching another student he didn't care. But then he turned with his hand raised, a series of explosions in them making him stop. "Yeah?" Mako stood, gritting his teeth and glaring at him.
"One day, I'm going to beat that goddamn grin off your face." he threatened.
Bakugo barked out a laugh before turning around, Izuku deflating behind him, Bakugo's words hitting him much harder then Mako.
Because Mako at least had a chance.
Eight Years Ago
"Ok son….you may have noticed by now that….I'm not exactly like many normal dads." Nolan Metuki said to his eight year old son who was sitting on the floor in front of him in his chair. Nolan was a large man in terms of stature, his arms were large and muscular with a broad chest that seemed to barely contain the grey shirt he had on. Nolan's face, much like his son's, was angular with his hair combed back, the biggest difference besides the age that showed on his face was the large bushy mustache his father had across his upper lip. "I've avoided the subject for many years, too many years really, and your mother and I agree that it's time you knew the truth." he explained as he leaned down with a hand out.
"We think you're old enough for me to tell you where I really come from." he began.
"Billions of miles from here, out in deep space, is the planet Viltrum. A cool blue oasis alone in a solar system much like our own. I was born on this planet."
"Its people are not completely unlike humans, although they, and I, have abilities similar to quirks. However all Viltrumites, as we call ourselves, have the same abilities. We can fly, move at super speed, and possess great strength, even by the other heroes of Earth's standards."
"Viltrum was a planet that had reached a perfect global society. There were no wars, no illnesses, no crime, it was a relative utopia. And with no conflict at hand, our high council decided that instead of simply reveling in our newfound utopia, we should share it with the rest of the galaxy. By helping lesser developed races reach our own level. It was agreed upon unanimously."
"Shortly thereafter, the council approved the World Betterment Committee, where one of our kind sent a protector to a different planet and help it develop further. When I reached the age, I signed up and I was assigned planet Earth."
"We had no way of knowing that Earth had so many dedicated to protecting it when I first arrived here. I was surprised by how advanced things were. But still, the world faced an unprecedented amount of danger because of the development of quirks. So I decided to aid the world as my job insisted I did. And within a year, I met your mother and….well soon after that, you were born."
Nolan took a breath as he looked down at his son, I know that this is a lot to take in at once, but your old enough to know the truth. Because….well see, as you get older….things are going to start to change. Your voice will crack, you'll start to get acne on your face, you'll begin to grow hair in some…strange places." he coughed a little at that. "And…there's a pretty good chance that you're going to develop Super Powers." he said excitedly.
"Super Strength, Speed, flight, the whole bit…Mako do you understand? You've been very quiet." he asked, tilting his head slightly.
Mako was dead silent as he stared at his father blankly, "….wow….I'm…..I'm going to be able to fly?" he asked.
Nolan chuckled in amusement of the simple question, "Yes son, you're going to be able to fly."
Today
"Swear to god, first day my powers come in? I'm gonna slap him upside the head just to see the look on his face." Mako grumbled as he and Izuku walked out of the school. Part of him wanted to find a teacher that wasn't theirs and tell what Bakugo said to them, but Izuku simply wanted to go home for the day and move on. "I should have just punched him."
Izuku glanced over at his friend through a pair of dark eyes, "If you did that you'd get in trouble. Or worse he'd hit you back." he said in a sad voice.
Obviously when he had discovered that he might get powers one day, the first person he told was Izuku. The rest of the world knew Omni Man's origin and he had been welcomed to Earth openly upon his arrival, but he never had to explain the possibility of his child or children inheriting his powers. Izuku had found the whole thing fascinating, but over time it became clear that even though they were both quirkless, Mako's was possibly just temporary.
Izuku's wasn't.
And seeing the miserable expression Izuku had, he reached out and laid a hand on his shoulder, "Hey, screw Bakugo. How about we hit the comic book store?" he offered, wanting to cheer his friend up.
Izuku's eyes brightened a bit and a small smile spread, "Thanks Mako but…you don't need to worry about me." he said, standing up a little straighter as he walked. He raised his hand and looked down at his palm, "I just need to keep my chin up and keep moving forward, who cares what other people say?" he asked, Mako gave him a look that made the green haired boy sputter, "I-I-I-I mean I care what you have to say! I just-"
Mako laughed, "Your fine Izuku. And…..look quirk or no? Your still my best friend. You know that right?" he asked. Izuku beamed at him and nodded without hesitation, "Good…still gonna slap him when I get mine." he said as they walked towards a bridge beneath a road, their usual way home from school.
Izuku let out a nervous laugh, "Well if you do, then please do it when I'm not around." he asked, knowing full well he'd probably get caught up in it.
"But who will record it then? If we don't have it recorded no one will ever believe me." Mako asked jokingly. As they walked over a manhole cover and into the tunnel beneath the street, green slime sprouted up through the grate behind the two students. Hearing an odd slushy sound, the pair stopped and slowly turned around to see a large mass of green slime form behind them! A pair of eyes and a set of teeth formed within the mass of green, making a monstrous villain look at the both of them.
"Ah perfect! Just what I need, a new skinsuit! And this time I have options!" he garbled out, the two students were petrified with fear, however when the slime moved towards Mako, Izuku was the first to move, shoving his friend aside as he entrapped him!
"Izuku!" he called out as the villain covered the boy's mouth his with slime.
"Oh well! This one will do just as nicely!" the villain said before Mako clawed at the villain with his bare hands to try and pull him off Izuku. "Hahaha! I'm liquid you brat! That's not going to work!" the villain cackled as Mako tried to pry his friend free of the slime villain's clutches.
Oh for god's sake! If there were any times for my powers to FINALLY kick in now would be a pretty good time! He thought frantically before the manhole the villain crawled out from shot up with a large mass emerging from the depts, the villain and Mako both stopped to look. Oh…..no fricking way…. he thought as a man who made his own father, one of the most powerful heroes in the world, look small by comparison to him. He was pure muscle with slicked back blonde hair that had two points stick up from his forehead similar to rabbit ears.
"Fear not young men. I AM HERE!" All Might announced triumphantly as he pulled back an arm, "Texas-" he shot it forward, "-SMASH!" not even touching the villain but the sheer force of the blow causing wind to shoot though the tunnel, making Mako fall back onto the ground as the slime villain was blown off Izuku.
As Mako go his bearings, he looked around and saw the remains of the slime villain wobbling around on the ground, the villain seemingly too stunned to reconstitute himself. "Oh shit! Izuku!' he exclaimed as he turned to his friend who was on the ground a foot away from him. Crawling over he saw his friend's chest rising and falling, the teen let out a breath of relief, "Oh thank god." he said, leaning back on his haunches.
"Are you all right young man?" Mako swiftly turned to the powerful voice and looked up at the beaming face of All Might.
He was….much taller in real life then he was seen on the countless videos Izuku showed him, "I'm…I'm fine but my friend….he tried to….god I don't even know-" he said, running a hand through his hair as he looked at his friend. Did he almost suffocate from that villain?! And if he did would there possibly be any permanent damage?
All Might knelt down at Izuku's feet and looked him over, his eyes covered by the shadows that his face's structure cast. "How long was he cut off from breathing?" he asked seriously.
"A-A few seconds but he was struggling and-" he said before the hero smiled and raised a hand.
"Then he should be fine, it takes minutes without oxygen before there can be any damage done." he said assuredly before looking at the remains of the villain which were starting to reform. "One moment young man. I need to secure the villain." he said before zooming around and collecting the segments of the slime in a pair of plastic bottles. Mako let out a breath as he hoisted his friend up by lifting him up from underneath his arms and dragged him out from underneath the bridge.
Setting him down in the sun, he looked up to see All Might had gathered his friend's things, and was flipping through the notebook which Bakugo had roasted before. Oh man, Izuku would loose his mind if…wait a second. he thought with a smile. "Um, All Might, sir?" he asked, the hero snapping out of his reading, "My friend here? Izuku, he's a big fan of yours, like…..super huge….would you mind…" he gesture to the notebook.
"AH! Of course, always happy to meet a fan!" he said as he pulled out a marker and quickly signed his name in the notebook. "'Your friend seems to be quite the hero fanboy!" he said with both recognition and amusement. Mako had to stifle a laugh at the accurate description of his friend, "Well I should wake him up, make sure that he's ok." he said before bending over to the unconscious boy and gently slapping the side of his face, "Hey, hey. Hey!" he said as he slapped Izuku awake. When his eyes finally opened, All Might stopped, "Oh! Thought we lost you there!" he said cheerfully.
Izuku let out what could only be described as a 'squawk' at the sight of his hero before scurrying back across the ground in a yell, All Might bellowed in laughter while Mako recorded the entire exchange. He wanted to do it so Izuku would have something to remember the moment by…..but now that noise his made was going to be his ringtone on Mako's phone.
All Might let out a billowing laugh at his fan's reaction, "Sorry for getting you two caught up in m justice-ing! I usually am better about that. But thankfully I have apprehended the criminal!" he said, holding out the bottle that contained the slime villain.
Izuku suddenly realized All Might was right here in front of him, HE NEEDED AN AUTOGRAPGH! His head twisted and turned for his notebook to see Mako holding it out in one hand with his phone in the other. He snatched his notebook from his hands and opened to the last blank-"AHH! HE ALREADY DID!" he exclaimed upon seeing the signature of his hero spread across the pages. Turning to All Might he bowed his head at least a hundred time, "Thank you! This will be a treasured Heirloom for generations to come!" he said as All Might put the bottles with the villain in the pockets of his pants.
Giving them a thumbs up, Mako made sure to get a picture to send to his mom and dad, 'Guess who me and Izuku ran into today?' he typed out before attaching the picture to his message before hitting the send.
"Anyway, thanks for your continued support!" All Might said before leaping up, up, and far into the distance as Mako raised a arm to shield himself from the sudden burst of air.
"Wow…..so Izuku how's that for-" he stopped when he noticed his friend was nowhere to be seen. "-I….Izuku?" he asked before he heard screaming. "He…..he didn't…." he muttered as he squinted his eyes and could see a lanky figure hanging off All Might's pant leg. "…..oh good lord he did." he realized as he face palmed.
On the one hand, he wanted to after his friend and make sure that he was ok, but considering he was with All Might? Odds are he would be fine. And he still needed to get home, "I'll text him later, see how this works out for him." Mako decided with a shrug before walking off in the direction of home.
"So I take it your day was pretty exciting." Kali said as her son entered their loft from the elevator, looking over at his mother he saw she was at the dining room table with a small stack of files beside her with one of them open in front of her. And on her other side was some takeout from what looked like a foreign country, seeing him look at the bag she smiled, "Your dad got food from Italy, there's some pizza on the stove for you." she said, making Mako smile at how considerate his dad was.
Walking into the kitchen he opened the box and hummed hungerly at the sight of the melted cheese with pepperoni, "Yeah it was, we-" he started before the doors suddenly opened up and a red and white blur stopped beside him, blowing air into the apartment as Mako's dad stopped at super speed to take a slice of the pizza.
"Thank youuu." he said with a smirk as he swiped a slice for himself.
Mako rolled his eyes at his dad before taking a slice for himself, his father's costume was striking due to the colors of red and white, his pants, cape, gloves, and the tops of his shoulders were red with a line going down to a large red 'O' on the chest with a pillar of white in the middle, which traced down to a red streak that connected to the upper and lower red respectively. Other then a little grey on the sides of his head in his hair, Nolan hadn't visibly aged much since Mako was a child. "Showoff." Mako said with an amused roll of his eyes.
"I'm known to from time to time yes, how was All Might?" he asked curiously as Kali looked up from her work.
"Oh you saw All Might today?" she asked happily.
Mako grinned, "Ok so, me and Izuku were walking home, going under the bridge like usual, when this big slime villain comes out of the sewer behind us!" He told as his dad ate the slice of pizza. "He was all huge and green and just….like a giant booger."
"Ugggghhhh" Kali goaned at the mental image.
"With eyes." Mako added with a smirk as he watched his mom. She gave him a look, "Alright so, he goes after me, but Izuku pushes me out of the way and grabs him!"
Nolan suddenly swallowed, "Is he ok?" he asked with concern. He had known the small boy for years now, he and his mother would regularly visit them, Kali described them as almost family and Mako couldn't agree more.
"Yeah, because All Might showed up and basically punches the air so hard he splattered off Izuku." Mako explained.
Nolan made a slightly scrunched up face, "You know, I've tried that before? For the life of me I can't figure out how he does that." he admitted. "But Izuku is fine?" he asked.
Mako nodded, "Oh yeah, he's fine. Best part is, well you know how he's a huge fan of his right?" he asked as he pulled out his phone from his pocket and opened up the video he took. Showing it to his dad as he took a bite of his food, he watched the playback of Izuku screaming upon waking up and seeing All Might looking down at him.
Nolan nearly choked on the pizza when he saw the green haired boy's reaction, covering his mouth so nothing would come out he let out a chortle, "Send me that! Please, send me that!" he asked though laughter after swallowing his food and smiling in amusement. Mako put his phone back into his pocket, "I'm guessing he showed up before you could call me." he assumed, Mako nodded as he turned back to his plate and took his slice.
"Yeah…..wish I could have done more then just stand around." he admitted with a slightly bitter tone. Bakugo's words from earlier still rung in his head, how he told Izuku that his best chance at getting a quirk was reincarnating with one. That stupid, smug look on his face made him want to-
He felt a hand on his shoulder, turning to his dad, he saw him give him a soft expression, "Mako, I know it's frustrating, but any day now you're due for your powers to come in." he assured, not noticing how Kali hesitated for a brief moment before flashing Mako a reassuring smile.
Mako sighed, "Yeah, yeah….any day now." he repeated, his dad had been saying that phrase for two years now and every time it was more grading then reassuring.
Nolan however gave him a smile, "Hey. I'm serious. I know it has to be frustrating, but believe me, I'm sure they'll come in." he explained, trying his best to assure his son. Mako smiled in appreciation at what his dad was trying to do, "But until then." he turned to the garbage which Mako turned to as well. It was full, and it was garbage night, Mako sighed before setting his bag down on the counter. It was a rotation on who took the garbage out, and his dad was easy as he could just fly down and drop it off.
"Ok that's just salt on the wound." Mako said with a roll of his eyes before taking the trash out of the can and tying the bag and carrying it to the elevator. As he reached it, he quickly turned to his dad and pointed a finger at him, "Hands off my pizza." he stated. His dad rose his hands in surrender as Mako entered the elevator. Walking inside, his head poked out once more to make sure his dad didn't steal his slice.
As the doors closed, Nolan turned to his wife and saw her arms crossed and the uneasy look on his face, "What?" he asked.
Her eyes were trained on the elevator before she turned to her husband, "Are you…sure about him getting his powers? I mean….I don't know how Viltrumites mature in terms of powers but…." she trailed off. She got her quirk when she was two years old, and Nolan had told her that he gotten his much younger then Mako was now. She let out a sigh, "I don't want to set him up for disappointment." she simply said as Nolan walked over.
His hand rested on her shoulder as he bent over to face her, kissing her on the forehead, "You trust me?" he asked.
She rolled her eyes, "Nolan, please."
"Kali." he prodded, looking into her eyes. She let out a breath through her nose, "Then trust me when I say that it'll happen." he assured confidently. He offered his other hand to her which she took, lifting her up from he smiled, "He'll be fine." he assured.
Meanwhile, Mako walked out of the building through the side entrance, dragging the trash at his side, Thank god mom picked up those extra strong bags. he thought as he walked over to the dumpster behind the apartment building. Opening the lid, Mako nearly gagged at the stench, "Ugh! Dear god! What do people throw away that smells that bad?" he asked, grateful that his father's powers didn't include enhanced senses.
Picking up the bag, he swung it up an pitched it, aiming at the bin.
Only for the bag to go soaring up into the sky.
Mako blinked. Once, twice, "Hehehe.…are you serious right now?!" he laughed out in excitement as he held the sides of his head in disbelief. "I mean I could have used you earlier but you know what?! I'll take it! YES!" he exclaimed as his fists shot into the air. Excitement coursed through him as he rushed back into the apartment building the way he came, running into the elevator, he was about to palm the penthouse button like usual when he stopped himself. "Right, right, super strength. Gentle." he said, raising his finger and pressing on the button.
The doors closed and what followed was possibly the longest elevator ride of his life, and possibly the last he would ever take up to his place. "Ok, ok, ok, be cool. Be cool Mako." he said to himself, running a hand back over his hair as he paced around the small shaft. It was finally happening! This was amazing! "Oh I gotta tell Izuku!" he realized.
His eyes widened at another possibility, "Oooooohhhhhhohoho! Bakugo! Man you are gonna get it!" he said to himself excitedly, whatever frustration he had towards the teen feeling vindicated.
When the doors finally opened, he rushed out and nearly tripped over himself, "Guys you'll never guess what just happened!" he exclaimed as his date was leaning against the table, now in his regular clothing, taking a drink from a glass of wine, his mom looking over some paperwork.
"Did you see that stray cat out back by the dumpster again?" his mother asked without looking up. Mako glanced at the table and smirked to himself, strolling over to the table he grabbed the opposite end of where his mom was sitting and his dad was leaning on. Lifting it up slightly, his mother sighed, "Nolan, not funny, I'll find my glasses-" she began as she trned to seeher husband not touching it. They both turned to see Mako pull it towards him and lift it up, scattering the papers on it.
Nolan nearly choked while Kali covered her mouth in disbelief.
"Guess whose finally getting his powers!"
