The Passing of Arwen Undomiel

Arwen slowly walked through the woods of Lothlorien. Her head bowed in sorrow. Many thoughts raced through her head.

"Old. I feel so old that I can't go on like this anymore. Why did Eru create love? Only fools take part in it. It hurts too much. I had two choices; both would kill me. Why am I crying? My tears are in vain.

As I walk through the woods of Lothlorien I see the trees are dying; their beauty fading. As is mine. Arwen Undomiel, the Evenstar of her people is dying of a broken heart. I'm withering away and I know it.

I have now come to the mirror of Galadriel. It is empty. Slowly I take the silver pitcher and fill it with water to pour into the mirror. I pour the water. As I set the pitcher down, the water shimmers. A mist rolls over it and the passes. I see white shores. A ship has just come into the harbor. An elderly looking hobbit alights onto the shore to be greeted by two more. I smile. Sam has or will cross to Valinor. The mirror fades and presents another picture. A past that could never be,"

She gazed into the mirror. The Grey Havens. Boarding the ships was her Grand mother, her father, her grandfather and herself. A hobbit was boarding as well. Four hobbits were on the shore sobbing. Gandalf was leaving, Frodo was leaving, but Arwen paid little attention to them. She had eyes only for one man. Dressed as a king with a crown on his head, Aragorn son of Arathorn and Arwen Undomiel Evenstar of her people gazed at each other in silent farewell. As she watched this scene in the mirror, tears fell into the mirror. The picture cleared; but it was not finished. Still another scene played itself out before her eyes. This time it was she on the shore gazing after the white ship at the anguished faces of her family. Galadriel raised a hand in farewell. The Arwen in the mirror raised her hand as well then put her head in her hands and sobbed.

This scene also cleared to show Aragorn lying on his death bed. Arwen close by watched as he placed his crown on the head of his son. The king gave his son a final blessing before closing his eyes, never to be opened again.

Arwen turned away before she saw the last scene played in the mirror. It showed Arwen lying on a bed of golden leaves. Her breath was shallow and was barley audible. Whispering a name, she drew her last breath.
