Maybe he does care
"I'm the only one you have!! Who will protect you!!?"
Those rung in Kagome's head like a school bell ringing for class. You couldn't just forget about them. She sighed. It seems as if… he's seeing through her. To Kikyo.
"But I'm not Kikyo." Kagome told herself. "I'm Kagome. Good old Kagome. Not Kikyo."
Those thought made her feel a bit better, but not much.
"Hey, Kagome!"
Kagome looked up and smiled. Shippo. He always makes her laugh, or make her feel better, even when she was in the worst moods. And that's saying something.
"Kagome, is something wrong?" Concern weaved through Shippo's words, even as he walked towards her.
"Oh, nothing's wrong, Shippo-chan." Kagome attempted to smile, but only managed sort of a painful grimace. "I'm fine, really."
"Kagome, you don't look okay." Shippo said, jumping onto Kagome's shoulder.
"Is it Inuyasha? What did he do to you this time?" Shippo sighed, while jumping onto Kagome's lap, where he could see her better.
"He… it's nothing. I just want to be alone now, okay?" Kagome asked, her eyes silently pleading that her kit would leave.
"Well…" Shippo mused. "Okay. If he ever does anything, I'll annoy him for you, okay? Bye!!" Shippo exclaimed happily as he ran out of the door.
Kagome waved at him, but slowly lowered her hand as she remembered what she was thinking about before.
Inuyasha. And that damn Kikyo.
Kagome lowered her head and cried. Oh, she cried.
"Why!?! WHY?!!"
That one word rang through Inuyasha's head as he raced through the forest."WHY DIDN'T I REALIZE IT SOONER?!" Inuyasha screamed as he jumped over a log, and kicked off of the ground, and sailed through the air.
"She always acts like nothing's wrong… like nothing's wrong! Like everything's okay… that it's right to be alone!" Inuyasha thought to himself as he landed in a tree, and jumped off of the branch he landed in. That's when it hit him.
The Goshinboku. Where it all began.
The Thunder Brothers, Hiten and Manten. Sesshoumaru. He wouldn't have made it alive out of those first battles if it wasn't for Kagome.
Kagome…
"I..nuyasha?"
Inuyasha gasped and jerked his head up so violently that his neck cracked.
"Ka.. gome…!"
And there they were. The two who brought it together. Inuyasha looked Kagome looked over. He could smell her tears, she's been crying.
Was it.. because of him? Of course.
"I… I'm sorry." Inuyasha whispered, his eyes downcast.
"Wh… what?" Kagome was shocked. Inuyasha… apologizing?! She must be going mad!
"For… what I did. I knew you'd be annoyed. I knew it. But, I ignored it. I just.. wanted to say.. I'm sorry." Inuyasha raised his eyes to Kagome, sorrow shining through them clearly.
"It's okay." Kagome smiled, and started walking towards him.
Maybe he does care.
