Quinn paced in fear. She couldn't believe it.
Britney and Brandon.
Her best friend and nephew looked practically dead.
She watched on with high emotion as Rachel and Caspian worked extensively to get Britney and Brandon stable with what little they had with Quinn's medical pack they had set up for her but it wasn't enough.
"We have to go get more supplies." Rachel said in a rush. "If we don't the hypothermia will kill them."
Quinn gasped as her eyes bulged. "Wa-I-N-No! Please! I-"
Before Quinn's panic could hit critical mass Rachel had her in her arms instantly, surprising not only Quinn, Caspian, and Bailey but herself as well. It was a instinctual reaction that she would never have with most people.
"Quinn I swear on my life, your friends will not die on my watch but I don't have time for consoling and neither do they. They need you to be strong and I need you to trust me."
Quinn nodded as she took a deep breath fighting her emotions. "I trust you."
Rachel will never be able to explain to anyone what her heart did in the moment at the words and how her stomach battered at the pure unadulterated genuine trust shining in the blondes eyes.
Rachel felt determination fill her entire being. The brunette nodded at the blonde and said with promise: I won't let you down.
And Quinn believed her entirely.
She could see the fierce truth of honor shining in Rachel's eyes that told Quinn everything she needed to know.
Rachel would honor her word that the three people in that room who were fighting for their lives were going to live if it's the last thing she'd ever do.
Rachel turned and rushed for the exit. Caspian following without a word.
Immediately Bailey crawled over to Brandon and her eyes burned bright once again shocking Quinn with it's extraordinary power.
Brandon's body lighting up along with hers and Quinn felt some tension leave her body; she stared down at Beth, Britney, Brandon, and Bailey.
She couldn't help but wonder what happened to everyone else because if Britney and Brandon were alone that could only mean one thing.
Santana could be...
No, she couldn't even think it.
She couldn't associate that word with her best friend because Santana was a fighter.
She would never let anything stop her from protecting her family but...
This wasn't an ordinary situation. This was hell on earth and maybe that was enough to stop the formidable woman.
"So this thing just saved you?" Marable questioned in a curious whisper.
"Yes and you should have seen her Mami, she was huge! Bigger than anything that ever chased us. She threw that hell dog like a piece of paper!" Santana whispered back.
Though they couldn't see each other very well, they were still too excited to sleep after finding one another.
It filled them with renewed hope that they could find the rest of their group.
"And this beast woman spoke?" Santos asked.
"Yes, she spoke English as clear as day. She told me to go save my friends then went after the hell dog she practically already killed."
"Yeah and she literally roared like the biggest lion-no! Dinosaur like something a T-Rex would sound like!" Mercedes added.
"Did she say anything else, like, what was happening or what those things are?" Mr. Schue asked.
"No she just said go save your friends and that was the last we saw of her. Hell that was the first time we even saw her. The only other time I think we might have heard her was like an hour or two before the hell dogs found us. It had to be her who roared because the ground shook that time too and the second time was when she saved us." Santana replied.
"Oh my god, we heard and felt that too." Kurt whispered in fear for the first time.
"From what we felt earlier I don't want to ever be on the receiving end of her bad side." Santos said just thinking about it put fear in him.
"Me either but if it wasn't for her we would all have been just another meal for the dogs." Santana replied.
"Why do you think she saved you?" Marable asked.
"I don't know but I could tell those things were scared of her. The other dogs ran off the moment she flew down. It's like they knew her." Santana said in thought.
"Well, hopefully if there is a next time she'll still be so kind as to protect us." Santos said.
"Honestly, there was something in her eyes. It was almost like she knew who I was and not just me; all of us." Santana replied.
"This might seem like a silly question but did you recognize her? Like facial features I mean." Mr. Schue asked.
"No, I've never seen her a day in my life but I feel like she knows us."
"Well let's just be grateful; Because of her kindness we get to be together again for another day."
The rest of the group agreed and felt gratitude for the beast woman and all wondering the same thing... would she save them again?
Bailey took her seat back at the log in exhaustion.
She's given Brandon an hour of healing then she gave another hour to Britney then gave Beth another round but could only give it for thirty minutes.
Quinn's eyes softened as she watched the normally ramrod straight sitter, regal girl slump in on herself uncomfortably. Her entire being looked like it was made of jelly and her skin seemed paler then before.
"Bailey, sweetie, come here please." Quinn spoke in a soft motherly tone.
Bailey looked up at her and Quinn felt her heart shatter, the girls eyes were glassy red as if she had been crying but she hadn't. She looked ready to collapse.
Quinn ever so carefully reached for the girl.
"May I hold you?" The blonde asked gently.
When they first separated days prior they had taken everything from the cave to keep up appearances so the quilts they slept on were no longer there.
The only cots available were the two that Beth had attached to the heavy pack Rachel had put together for them which was being occupied by Beth and Britney with Brandon curled into her side.
Bailey's eyes filled a little in awe as she stared into Quinn's eyes.
The only people who to ever be this kind to her were Rachel and Caspian.
Because every other world understood that Bailey was from Paltei Osaria; they knew she was three and half centuries old so she was not considered an infant but in her world she is by her people but her people were no more.
The last time Bailey was held like a toddler was by her mother but when she escaped her world she had wandered for over a century alone.
So when Rachel came upon her she had already conditioned herself not to ask for such things.
Rachel never pushed her because the brunette didn't want to upset her so she allows Bailey to act as she always has and though Bailey has told Rachel many times that she is no baby and doesn't need a mother; Bailey secretly misses that kind of contact.
The kind that reminds her that she may be practically an adult to other worlds but in her own she is still just a baby who lost everything.
So Quinn asking to hold her not only shocked her but struck a chord so deep and touched a wound so tender that her eyes welled but she didn't allow them to fall.
"Re-Really?" Bailey asked but was trying to not seem too eager. The time before Rachel and Caspian had taught her how cruel other worlds could be. Especially it's people.
"Of course sweetie, after everything you've done to help all of us. You need some rest and cuddles. it's a doctors greatest weapon against exhaustion."
Bailey furrowed her brow in curiosity.
"You are a healer in your world then?"
Quinn's eyes widened in surprise before she chuckled sheepishly. "Well-no but I do highly recommend it. It works for Beth all the time, even now."
"Truly?" Bailey said as she cast her eyes to Beth's sleeping form.
"Yes you goof, now come here and I'll prove it to you."
Bailey hesitated but eventually walked into Quinn's embrace.
Quinn was sat on the log with her injured foot outstretched as to not hurt herself. She tucked Bailey into her arms with practice ease of a mother.
"How about a story?" Quinn asked sweetly.
"A story? Is that a form of a fable?"
"Yes, it's what we call them."
"Interesting, I didn't think your kind were gifted with word."
Quinn scoffed a laugh of insult. "Hey, I'll have you know that I am well versed in literature. In fact, I used to write short stories in high school."
"High school?" Bailey said to herself as if testing out the word and it's odd name. "I apologies I don't mean to come across rudely. I have been told this world isn't the brightest in reference to intelligence. I hear you are quite barbaric."
"Ouch, way to hold the punches kiddo."
"Punches? but Ms. Quinn I did not hit you."
"Bailey sweetheart, it was a joke, you know what? How about we discuss this later."
"Yes, I agree." Bailey said followed by a yawn.
Quinn smiled adoringly at her. "You are too precious."
"As are you Ms. Quinn."
Quinn chuckled then cleared her throat to begin her story of goldilocks and the three bears.
"I tried to save him but he ran in the opposite direction with his family." Puck said with fake remorse.
"Wow, that's crazy. So he just left the pack?" Sam asked not believing the man who had been ready to fight anyone for his pack would just leave it behind.
"Fear makes us do weird shit man, what can I say?" Puck replied as he finished off his cat food.
They were sat in a circle eating. Finn had asked Puck how he had gotten separated from the group and though the story was convincing; Sam felt like something wasn't right.
He wasn't the only one, Emma did her best not to show just how many holes were in his story.
Something about Puck just rubbed her the wrong way but she didn't want to cause any issues.
In fact, she just wanted the group to stay peaceful and share with each other and not have what happened the last time their group was whole.
When just the idea of sharing caused an uproar. No, she needed these people to stay together.
They all knew each other and they all were protective of one another and she knew since they had found each other, she had renewed hope the rest of the group would soon follow but they had to stick together in order to survive to see that happen.
"Wow, I guess you really did get lucky." Emma replied.
"Total." Puck nodded.
Quinn cooed softly as she ran a feather light finger tip down Bailey's button nose. The girl slept deep and peacefully.
She looked like a doll that's how beautifully crafted she is to Quinn. She reminded the blonde of a toddler Sadie Sink.
Just then Quinn heard heavier then normal footsteps that put fear into her because the ground shook but before she could truly panic Rachel and Caspian in their giant beast forms entered.
The cave somehow, with their large masses in the center, seemed like it shrunk in size.
In their arms were so many different things Quinn couldn't even fathom what was what.
It looked like they were holding arms full of miniature toys with how their sizes shrunk everything in their arms.
"Sorry we took so long. We needed to fly further for what we needed and had to fight our way into certain hospitals. Then we had to retrieve more herbs." Rachel said in a rush.
Now that Quinn wasn't so terrified and could actually register what Rachel looked like in beast form; She could honestly say secretly in her mind that Rachel was stunning and oh so attractive.
She isn't a lesbian but she is bisexual and even though Rachel in this form isn't human she could definitely see that anyone from Rachel's kind must drool over her magnificent beauty when she's like this just as much as in her human form.
"It's fine." Quinn replied.
Just then Rachel and Caspian halted briefly at the sight of a sleeping Bailey in Quinn's arms. Quinn worried she over stepped a boundary.
"I... I'm sorry it's just that she's been doing whatever it she does for over two hours and was exhausted and there wasn't anywhere for her to sleep so-"
"Quinn it's alright, it's just odd to Caspian and I; She never allows us to treat her like a child so it's just surprising to witness." Rachel assured as she and Caspian placed everything they had in their arms down as quietly as possible.
Then Quinn watched with fascination as Rachel and Caspian shifted back to human form.
The two had ripped their clothing when they had changed into their beast forms; So they began undressing to change into something new.
Quinn diverted her eyes quickly but it seemed Caspian and Rachel had no shame.
As soon as they were dressed Rachel began her work to check Britney as she also instructed Caspian to check Brandon for any form of injuries.
Once he was done setiing Brandon up, Caspian began setting up the extra cots they brought.
Quinn finally took in all the piles of things that looked like toys in the large beasts arms. There's practically everything you can thing of to create a small medical bay.
They also gathered more blankets as well as canned goods which unbeknownst to Quinn and the rest of the world who has lost track of time; It has only been four months since the take over and canned foods as well as other items were still up to date.
There were a few duffle bags and for the love of bacon there was toilet paper! Quinn's eyes continued to scanned the items on the ground before Caspian stepped into her view.
"Here, allow me." He said as he stooped low to Quinn's height on the wood stump Rachel had sawed the last time they were there.
He scooped a clearly knocked out Bailey from her arms and walked her to the cot he had set up for her.
"You are right she is exhausted, she is sleeping deeply. She must have expelled too much energy over the last two weeks for someone of her size. Thank you for taking care of her." He spoke softly as he tucked her in and smiled adoringly at her like a big brother would.
"Of course, she's so precious... I-Is he okay?" Quinn asked as she gestured to Brandon.
"Yes, quite actually. He was wrapped in thick clothing and seems to have been kept nourished as best as possible but the IV will aid his progress. It is clear his biggest issue is exhaustion." Caspian replied as he took a seat on the ground and began going through everything they brought back.
"Here, this is for you courtesy of your merchant the Walmart." Caspian said as he set the camping chair for her.
Quinn chuckled but was internally squealing with joy, that stump was really causing her already damaged spine to burn; Add to the fact she had been holding Bailey for quite sometime only fueled the pain more.
"Thank you so much." Quinn said sweetly.
Caspian reached out a hand and helped her stand and she hissed deeply in pain.
So much so Rachel's eyes snapped to her though she was still working on Britney. The brunette's eyes took on worry.
The blonde fought her body to not give out as she attempted to maneuver herself into the chair since she lost her crutches when those things attacked.
Quinn groaned the second she sat. God it felt amazing.
Caspian chuckled. "There, all better."
"Thank you so much."
"You're more then welcome but that is not all." Caspian grabbed what looked like a miniature ottoman but it wasn't. "It is took keep your leg elevated."
"Thank yo-"
"I think you have expressed that enough, no more is needed we are aware." Caspian said with a smile.
"Yes, sorry."
"No apologies necessary."
He began going through everything they brought back with them. He and Rachel had spoke in length about the best plan of action.
It was clear Quinn needed more time to heal and now so did Beth, Britney, and Brandon.
Obviously they wouldn't survive if they attempted to leave the cave again so Rachel decided it best to make the cave as habitable as possible for the four.
Should they decided to go find their group when they were healed and wanted to use the cave as a safe haven then Rachel would make it happened.
She didn't mention it but Caspian knew that Rachel would not be able to focus on her mission now that Quinn and Beth some how altered her state of being.
The brunette cared now.
The only other two people she has ever cared about in centuries were Caspian and Bailey, anyone else is always to be considered an enemy held close.
Caspian agreed with the plan to make it hospitable. They flew for miles until they saw actual cities again just like they had when they first decided to help Quinn and Beth.
The medical supplies all came from hospitals in said cities. The cities once housed life but were now deserted of humans were covered with groids roaming everywhere.
Rachel and Caspian knew there had to be humans in the more populated areas otherwise the groids would have moved on but they couldn't focus on them.
They were there for specific reasons and so any areas groids attempted to block off Rachel and Caspian tore through them with ease.
They had gone to many places and took in consideration of what humans considered vital camping supplies as well as medical attention along with clothing thermals and insulated food containers and utensil's.
They had a list that they're not done with gathering. On the list is hunting gear like bow and arrows, guns and ammo, etc.
They were able to grab the family sized tents. Sleeping bags and camping chairs. They also made sure to grab survival bathroom buckets.
Beth had told the story of one of their group members who caught poison Ivy on his butt because he squatted in an Ivy patch.
They took their time to pack the items they were bringing back in to smaller portions so they had less to carry. They flew back as fast as they could.
"Caspian, I need you to fetch water. I need to clean the boy and his mother and change their clothing as does Quinn." Rachel said.
"Water? But the lakes are frozen." Quinn said confused.
Rachel smiled a knowing smile. "Yes they are."
"So how-You know what never mind, I'm sorry I should be thanking you not questioning you."
"It's alright, it's pure curiosity but to answer your question. He isn't bringing water from this world."
Quinn's head snapped up as her eyes widened. "What? How?"
"Slipping through worlds is easy when it's your own world you're slipping into." Rachel replied.
Quinn's eyes snapped to Caspian.
"It is true; My world has not been touched." Caspian said with a gentle smile.
"That's great." Quinn replied with a small smile.
It was clear she wished her world would be the same. Safe and untouched.
"Say Quinn, have you ever had a thylin?" Caspian asked sweetly.
Quinn furrowed her brow. "I don't think I've ever even heard of it. Why?"
"It's the greatest food you'll ever eat." Caspian assured.
"Yes, Quinn it's out of this world... literally." Rachel deadpanned with humor in her eyes from her spot by Britney.
Quinn could clearly tell they were trying to cheer her up after their flux pass of mentioning Caspian's untouched world.
"I can't wait to try it then."
"It's settled. I'll return soon. Is there anything else you require Rachel?"
"Yes, willowmorose and foglyle."
Quinn furrowed her brow wondering what in the world could those be?
Rachel made a small knowing smile at the sight of Quinn's confusion. "Oh and a pocket sized heirloom bound-actually make that two please Caspian."
"Right away." Caspian said with a knowing smile himself as he put on his cloak and rushed down the cave carved steps.
Santana sighed tiredly. She groaned as she popped her neck. This is the third time she's woken up and it's because she keeps dreaming about her wife and son.
She has no idea where they are or if they're okay. She feels like she failed them.
The brunette's eyes begin to well before her tears spill over. She does her best not to let out a sound.
God she misses them. She misses them so fucking much it feels like her soul is burning without them.
Why couldn't that beast woman come and save them the day they were ambushed.
If she had then she, Britney, and the kids would still be together. Hell if she had come when the situation with Quinn and Beth happened they'd still be alive and with them.
Santana's eyes conjured the image of the beast woman. Her chocolate eyes piercing into Santana with familiarity. Whoever she is, wherever she is Santana hopes and prays that she'll return.
She hopes the next time she'd be able to ask her if she happened to see a blonde woman and a little boy while she flew through the skies.
Maybe and this is a huge fucking maybe... Maybe she's caught a glimpse of two blonde's as well?
The only reason she feels like she could ask the beast woman such things is the woman's eyes. Her eyes were so expressive and all knowing.
Santana would never forgot those eyes because secretly Santana knows she's seen them before but for the life of her can't remember where.
Quinn watched Rachel take Beth's vitals having already hooked her up to an IV drip only this time Rachel made sure to grab three drip stands from the hospital. One for each patient.
She was currently taking Beth's blood pressure.
"If you don't mind my asking, Where did you study medicine?" Quinn asked softly.
"I've traveled many worlds and have study along side the greatest healers throughout them. It was all holistic until I came to this world and though eastern medicine is similar to the practices of other worlds; it was western medicine that shocked me with their methods. Well the beginning of it at least-"
"The beginning?"
"Oh yeah, John D. Rockafella and the rest of the minds behind the machine." Rachel said with sarcasm. She never liked the man.
Quinn's eyes bulged. "Wait... You came here way back then?"
"Actually I first came here way before then... If I'm accurate in my wording it would 1350 B.C."
If Quinn thought her eyes bulged before then they were falling from their sockets now. "Wh-What?"
"I arrived in Egypt during the death of the eighteenth dynasty and the succession of the pharaoh by Amenhotep IV."
Quinn stares with a slacked jawed and wide eyes.
Rachel notices her silence and glances at her; Upon seeing her expression the brunette chokes on her laughter.
"You've seen me in my second form and this... This is what shocks you to silence?" Rachel asked with sparkling mirth in her eyes and a wicked smirk to boot.
"I can admit seeing you... change was not only shocking but also magnificent-" Rachel's eyes snapped back to her as the words magnificent rattles in her mind "-but come on now you're telling me you've literally witnessed history?! That's beyond amazing!"
Rachel finds herself ducking her head bashfully. No one from any other world has ever found her life cycle so amazing.
Granted, she could chalk it up to the fact that the human world doesn't have all the fascinating things that other worlds have; Things that is way more impressive then she herself.
"I guess in your world that is something of wonderment."
"Rachel, you have to tell me what it was like? Please, I swear I won't tell anyone but I have to ask is everything they claim in the history books true?!" Quinn asked eagerly.
Rachel chuckled. "You really want to know?"
"Are you kidding me?! Of course I want to know! I'm a history buff, I'll cherish it for the rest of my life!"
Rachel chuckled once more and found herself endeared by the gorgeous woman before her.
"Alright but if I'm telling juicy secrets then you have to help cook."
"Deal!"
