V is for Valentine's Day
Dean looked down at the card sitting on the table. He had been out on a food run when Sam pointed out that it was valentines day. The store had been decorated in frilly pink hearts, and couples had been walking around with dopey love-struck smiles all day. Typically Dean wouldn't give the holiday a second thought, but Sam had to open his big mouth and ask if he and Castiel had plans tonight.
That led to the slight panic that Dean was in now. He had brushed Sam off with a roll of his eyes, but what if Castiel had wanted to do something? What if he was expecting something from Dean now that they were together? That led to Dean doubling back to the store to buy a card and a pie because pie was better than cake. The thought lingered in the back of his mind that Castiel probably wouldn't care about this. He had been an angel of the lord. He didn't really celebrate holidays. However, he was human, for now at least, while they hunted for his grace.
"This is so stupid," Dean groaned to himself.
This whole holiday was stupid. Castiel knew how he felt about him. He showed him how he felt most nights. When words failed the hunter, he knew his actions would show the foreigner angel how he felt. Castiel knew he wasn't good at words or big romantic gestures. Castiel loved him despite all that. He didn't need to be sappy or romantic. He just had to be himself. He didn't need a stupid holiday to tell him that he needed to tell Castiel he loved him.
"What's all this?"
Dean looked up as Castiel entered the kitchen. He watched as the angel's eyes were drawn to the card and the pie. He looked back up at Dean, confused.
"It's valentines day," Dean said slowly.
"Oh," Castiel said as he looked down at the counter again. Dean bit his lip. This was too much. He shouldn't have gone back.
"Sam said…sorry, this is just stupid," Dean sighed.
"No, it's not," Castiel said, crossing the room. He stopped in front of the elder Winchester with a smile. "I just was not expecting anything. You're not one for all this sappy stuff anyways."
"I'm really not," Dean agreed, "but since I did, want some pie?" he asked.
"Dean," Castiel said slowly.
Dean looked down at the card. He sighed as he picked it up, "This is…uh..this is for you." His cheeks heated up with embarrassment. Castiel took the card, and Dean turned back to the pie. He started to cut into it as Castiel read the card. He didn't want to look at the other man.
Castiel gave a small laugh. "Dean," he said. Dean looked up as he reached into his coat pocket and pulled something out. He handed it over to the elder Winchester.
"What's this?" Dean asked. He looked down at the card and laughed as he saw the exact same card he had bought for Castiel. He started laughing too.
"I guess we know each other too well," Castiel asked with a smile still gracing his features.
"It would appear so," Dean laughed. He stepped closer to the angel. He pressed their lips together in a kiss. "So about that pie?"
"I'd love some," Castiel said, smiling.
"We never tell Sam about this either, got it," Dean said, pointing to their matching card.
"Tell me what?" Sam asked as he entered the kitchen. "About your valentines pie?" he asked snarkily.
"No," Castiel said, shaking his head.
"What's this?" Sam asked, grabbing one of the cards before Dean could stop him. He looked down and saw the match. "Did you get each other the same card?"
"Can is Sammy," Dean said, glaring at his younger brother.
