He leaned back the garage door. His father wouldn't have liked him to let it sit like that undone, he would have wanted him to finish it and then use it. Not letting it sit collecting dust for 15 years. Spending money on rent. And he was angry with himself for having done just that. That's why he had yelled at Mrs. Thomson to haul it of, get rid of it. He did like to hang on to things, there was no denying that but he didn't like to admit it. It made him feel so exposed and vulnerable when people noticed, cause the things he held onto where the things that were the most precious to him and he didn't like people knowing stuff about him that were so personal so intimate. Now he felt relieved that she'd bought the boat and kept it, she did know him well, but it had taken him of guard. He hadn't been ready to deal with it, and on this day of all, it had been too much, too overwhelming. And for a moment he feared that she was getting to close, getting inside. He had let his guard down. So he had yelled at her, telling her to mind her own business and then stormed of.

He didn't feel like going home to his empty apartment, so he let himself into her house. He didn't have a key but that hadn't stopped him before. God he was tired, it had been a rough day, but this time it had been different cause she was there. Although she wasn't home he felt comfort in being surrounded by her things. He went upstairs, got undressed and took a long hot shower, trying to wash of the remnants of the day. He got under the covers on her bed and felt her sweet smell enclose him and finally, he was able to relax. He could feel the tension in his body float away and he fell asleep.

She left the party early. Though they had made up her heart was still heavy. She had been tempted to go to his place, she stood in front of the dark diner for a few seconds but then decided to let him have his alone time and walked home. She smiled when she saw his coat hanging on the coat rack. She went upstairs and watched him in the dark, listening to his slow breath. Today had been hard. It broke her heart seeing him in so much pain and she had felt so helpless, not knowing what to do to make him feel better. But now seeing him in her bed, looking so peaceful, she knew, they were going well, more than well. After a while, she got undressed, put on her pajamas and did her nightly routine. She crawled up to bed and curled up behind him, spooning him. She could feel on his breathing that he had awakened. He silently took her hand and clutched it to his chest letting her hold him tightly, and she did. She held him close, so close, a silent promise of never letting him go, to always be there. "I love you Luke" she whispered kissing his bare shoulder. She sensed him taking a deep breath and exhale, then he turned a little and kissed her, a gentle soft kiss. "I love you Lorelai" his voice husky. And he let himself be embraced by this woman that he had been in love with for so long, this woman that he was slowly letting brake down all his defenses.
