Sophia's POV
Nik and I decided to confront Sophie since she was responsible for the witches and keeping Hayley safe so we both got up early and headed for Rousseau's bar to wait for her to arrive and Nik surprised me by pacing as we waited which was almost making me smile since he was finally acting like the man that I knew and loved, the protector and he was showing his true feelings towards the prospect of being a father and caring about our baby.
The door finally opened stopping Nik from pacing while we watched Sophie walk in carrying a crate of food putting it on the bench before he vamp-sped towards her grabbing her and we both vamped back to the plantation house where he threw her down into one of the chairs in the main sitting room where Rebekah was waiting for us to return.
"We had a deal!" Nik immediately yelled as he thrown Sophie down. "You protect our unborn child, I dismantle Marcel's army and whilst I've been busy fulfilling my part of the bargain, you allowed Hayley to be attacked and almost killed by a gaggle of lunatic witches" he then took a seat on one of the couches, his arms outstretched over the back.
"I had nothing to do with it I swear, Hayley and I are linked remember, she dies I die" Sophie protested and I rolled my eyes.
"Then who were they?" I snapped glaring at her.
"They are a faction of extremists, Sabine stupidly told them about some vision she had about the baby" she replied and I frowned crossing my arms as I sat down into the lounge next to Nik, his hand immediately moving to accommodate me by his side coming to rest over my shoulders.
"What kind of vision?" Nik asked her.
"She has them all the time, they are totally open to interpretation I'm guessing she's wrong on this one" Sophie protests not really answering the question.
"Well, how may I ask was this particular vision interpreted?" Nik urged her to answer.
"Pretty much that your baby would bring death to all witches"
"Ah well. I grow fonder of this child by the second" Nik smirked and I elbowed his side rolling my eyes at him but couldn't help the smile on my face.
"Sophie, look I promised Elijah that I would protect the Mikaelson miracle baby whilst he tries to win your witch Davina's loyalty, why don't you tell me just how extreme this faction is?" Rebekah suddenly spoke up.
"Elijah's talking to Davina?" Sophie asked turning towards Rebekah.
"Yeah, as we speak I imagine" Beks nodded.
"I'm guessing she'll have plenty to say about that crowd" Sophie replied and I raised an eye since what the hell did that mean and I was growing significantly more vexed with this witch by the second by her vague answers.
"Do tell" Nik urged her to continue.
"I...wasn't always an advocate for the witches" she responded as if that meant something to us. "My sister was devoted like our parents and our upbringing was very strict which drove me nuts, the minute I turned 21 I left the quarter to travel...and play" I raised my eyes which a smirk seeing as she was so uptight usually but we all had that time in our life where we want to play and just have fun, I certainly did and it didn't go over well with my father. "But, I wanted to be a chef so I came back to Rousseau's and Jane-Anne told me the elders called a vote to move forward with the Harvest-"
"What the bloody hell is the Harvest?" Rebekah cut her off.
"It's a ritual our coven does every three centuries so that the bond to our ancestral magic is restored, we appease our ancestors they keep our ancestral power flowing.
"And why haven't I heard of this?" Nik asked her running his thumb over my shoulder as his arm was still slung around me.
"Because a Harvest always seemed like a myth, a story passed on through generations like Noah's ark or the Buddha walking on water, the kind some people take literally and some people don't" she replied and I was seriously not liking the sound of this Harvest ritual.
"So what happens in this...Harvest?" I asked not entirely sure I wanted to know to be honest.
"They had the girls of our community preparing for months, four would be chosen for the Harvest, they said that it was an honor that they were special, I thought it was a myth"
"Was it?" Bekah asked her but before she can say anything, Nik's cell phone rings and removes his arm from my shoulder as he sits up pulling the phone out of the pocket inside his jacket then answers it standing up.
"Marcel, bit early in the day for you isn't it?" I raised an eye towards him.
"I know, I make this look easy but I still have an empire to run" Marcel replies.
"Rather you than me, all that responsibility seems like such a bore" Nik argued and I rolled my eyes at the lie.
"Well this might spice things up, I just heard about a bunch of dead witches out in the bayou...the kinda damage a werewolf might do, only there was no full moon, I have an informant out there I need to meet and I would love for you to go with me"
"Dead witches in the bayou, sounds like less of a problem and more like a cause for celebration" Nik replied, his eyes on me and Rebekah...we probably should have covered our mess last night.
"Well something killed them and may still be out there and with your blood the only cure for a werewolf bite, I would love for you to accompany me" I scoffed rolling my eyes since Marcel was using Nik for his blood.
"Oh why not, haven't been to the bayou in ages, I'm on my way" Nik smirked lying his ass off again.
"Peace out, brother" Marcel replied before hanging up.
"You can't go out there now, I need to gather the witches' remains and consecrate them if I don't get to them before sundown, we'll lose the link to their magic" Sophie immediately protested as Nik hung up and I turned towards her raising an eye at the audacity of her statement, those witches could rot for all I cared considering they tried to kill Hayley.
"Those witches tried to kill Hayley" I snapped glaring at her seeing Hayley actually walk into the room.
"I'd prefer for Marcel's informant not to find anything that would lead him back to us, to her, or to... you know-" Nik added before he points at Hayley's stomach. "That" I scoffed rolling my eyes at him.
"You are all class" Hayley remarks.
"Stay put" Nik says pointing at Sophie. "And save the rest of your story 'til I return" he started to walk out, I let out a sigh as I stood and started to follow him deciding to tag along and he smiled over at me when he noticed that I had followed him.
"I could use a drink" I shrugged excusing myself from following him but his smirk told me that he read straight through me but I didn't care, it was better than being here entertaining Sophie since the witch pissed me off more than she was useful and if she wasn't linked with Hayley and our baby I would have killed her by now.
"If you say so my love" I tried to hide the smile as I hopped into his car allowing him to act like a gentleman and shut my door for me before he drove us out towards the bayou and we met with Marcel at some hoedown low life bar in the middle of nowhere.
Third Person's POV
In Lafyette cemetery Sophie Deveraux was packing up a bag in order to head out to the bayou for the dead witches and was not patient enough to wait around for Klaus for whenever he decided to return from meeting up with Marcel but as she turned around she was startled to find Hayley standing behind her.
"Hey, what the hell?" Sophie yelled out.
"You're going out there anyway aren't you?" Hayley asked gesturing to the bag over Sophie's shoulder. "I want to go with you" she added.
"No thanks already got assaulted by Klaus and Sophia this morning, don't need a repeat" Sophie argued and tried to walk past Hayley but the werewolf stepped in her way blocking her exit.
"What if whatever is responsible for all those dead witches is still out there?" Hayley played that card. "We've already established that it likes me and hates witches, so you'll be safer with me"
"Sorry if I'm not buying your sudden concern for my safety" Sophie continued to argue but Hayley frowned and shot her arm out blocking her again.
"The whole reason I came to this stupid town in the first place was to learn more about my family" Hayley quickly said glaring at Sophie. "Your sister's the one that told me Marcel ran the werewolves out of the Quarter, into the bayou and last night I'm pretty sure that some guardian-angel-wolf saved my life, so I'm coming with you"
"Could you two be more idiotic?" they heard a voice behind them and turned to see Rebekah before they were looking back at each other and sighed for being caught since she was likely to stop them, more so Hayley. "Two can play the follow-game, you know!" she said looking at Hayley. "You heard Klaus, he, Sophia and Marcel are headed right where you're going" she said looking straight at Hayley hoping that would hinder her decision.
"So distract them" Hayley shrugged not swayed in the slightest. "Because unless you wanna lock a hormonal, pregnant werewolf in a tomb, I'm coming with you" she said the last bit looking Sophie. "And wouldn't Elijah and Sophia be mad if they hear that the baby and I died of asphyxiation?" she added using Rebekah's her promise to Elijah's wish that she is to keep Hayley and the baby safe and Sophia's protectiveness against the vampire and Rebekah let out an sigh of annoyance knowing she didn't have a choice.
Sophia's POV
"Sophia!" Marcel practically shouted when he saw me and I laughed a little as his wide dimpled smile as he wrapped me in a hug. "I hoped he'd bring you"
"He didn't bring me, I came of my own accord" I argued as he let me go.
"Still in the marital dispute I see" he chuckled looking towards Nik.
"You said we were in a marital dispute?" I questioned turning towards him as well.
"Of course not love, Marcel is just causing trouble" Nik argued making Marcel chuckle.
"Hey I just call 'em as I as see it but it's good to have the both of you together again, it was kind of salty at all my ball the other night"
"I told you it's just readjusting to being in the same quarters again" I lied moving to take a seat in one of the stools at the bar and waved the bartender over.
"What's a petty little readjusting faze got on a hundred years of history, am I right?" Marcel asked us and I chuckled nodding my head a little since what he said was true, Nik and I had a long history and no matter what I didn't want to see that go to waste since I didn't really have much else aside from him...except Stefan and Damon but now Nik and I were bound by more than marriage and sirelines, he was the father of my child...a child that shared equal parts of our blood and of course Marcel couldn't know that which is why I decided to focus on my drinks.
"Bourbon, no ice" I ordered as soon as the bartender finally came over and he immediately poured my drink before winking towards me.
"On the house, cutie" he said before walking away to serve someone else and I smiled a little for the fact that I didn't even have to compel him and looked up at Nik to see his glare towards the guy.
"Easy lover, your jealously is showing" I spoke in Aramaic.
"I'm not jealous of that" he spoke back and I saw Marcel shake his head out of the corner of my eyes.
"I forgot how annoying that was ever since you taught Sophia that language" he remarked making me smile.
"I'm his most successful pupil Marcellus"
"Get over yourself pipsqueak" he shot back nudging my shoulder and the two of us laughed especially when he called me pipsqueak as he had been calling me that since we met but our laughter was met by the sound of Nik's phone ringing and he excused himself outside to answer it leaving me with Marcel. "In all honesty Sophia, is Klaus still making you happy cause you know there is a place for you amongst the Quarter vampires"
"Of course he's still making me happy, I love him" I admitted frowning a little that he felt the need to clarify that since he held no right to even ask me that.
"Well good, cause as much as I'd like to kick his ass I'm pretty sure I wouldn't win" he replied and I chuckled a little.
"Kol used to say that" I reminisced before it turned sour as my mind was reminded of my best friend.
"I heard about his passing, I knew you two were close...I'm sorry"
"Yeah so am I" I replied right as Nik came back in and I could immediately tell by his expression that something had upset him as he approached us again.
"Everything okay?" Marcel asked him.
"Oh, just the usual...temperamental sister" Nik replied and my mind immediately started racing with macabre thoughts that something happened with Rebekah and that of Hayley but he would be finding some excuse for us to leave knowing that I would want to help but he was relaxed in his seat so I kept my mouth shut. "So where's your informant?" he asked looking at Marcel.
"Tomas, he's out sniffing around" Marcel replies before looking over at the bartender. "Grab a drink, then we'll chase him down" I frowned since couldn't we just look at these damn witches and get it over with so I could get back, if I left now it'd be suspicious.
"Well, I supposed it will give us a chance to talk things over" Nik replied removing his jacket before taking the seat beside me. "Like why you haven't returned Elijah, maybe your young witch has grown partial to his company, she must get so bored" he went on while Marcel poured himself a glass from the bottle that the bartender brought over and smiled at me but my attention was focused on Nik trying to get a read from his eyes on where he was going with this and want the issue was with Rebekah seeing as she had called him and with the two of them it wouldn't have been a social call.
"You never stop, do you?" Marcel asked him putting the bottle down and slumped back in his seat.
"Have you met Niklaus" I remarked trying to joke.
"You never answer, do you?" Nik shot back over me and I let out a sigh grabbing the bottle for myself and poured it into my glass before setting the bottle back down, this is gonna be a long day.
"Why are you so curious about Davina?"
"If I had a 16-year-old all powerful witch at my beck and call, you would wonder about her too" Nik smirked towards him.
"You're never gonna get her" Marcel smiled back while I rolled my eyes standing up from the stool since he clearly has forgotten how Nik worked, he always got what he wanted but I didn't say that and approached the old juke box in the far corner, my eyes still trained into the sound of their voices.
"I'll ask the harmless questions then, how did you meet her?" Nik asked him while I scrolled through the range of music this thing had hearing Marcel laugh as if it was a funny story.
"That might surprise you, this was 8 months ago before I banned the witches from using magic, relations between vampires and witches weren't what you'd call friendly..." I huffed since were they ever, witches hated vampires from the dawn of the vampire race all because of Esther, we were the abominations. "...by any means, but lets just say we were a little less divided, in fact some of us were getting along just fine..." I recoiled as he went on talking about Sophie Deveraux in an...intimate detail as the two had relations of the physical kind which added to my dislike for the girl.
"You and Sophie, you hypocrite!" Nik laughed out making me roll my eyes as I finally found and song and clicked it after adding a quarter to the machine and smiled as 'Come and Get Your Love' by 'Redbone-1974' filtered out from the speakers around the room. "You torture those witches and yet there you are getting positively 'Romeo and Juliet' with Sophie Deveraux"
"Oh it wasn't like that, it was a mutually satisfying hookup" I rolled my eyes as I approached the bar waving down the bartender again for a new bottle of bourbon hearing the two men laughing beside me.
"So if Sophie didn't turn to you, her secret vampire lover in her hour of need, what did she do?" Nik asked him and I felt his arm snake around my waist and pull me towards him just as the bartender arrived, his face immediately falling to Nik's arm around my waist and my close proximity to Nik with a frown.
"Bourbon, leave the bottle" I ordered and stole a couple of bills from Nik's jacket putting them on the bar feeling like the free drinks were now off the table my Nik's possessive clear insinuation to claim me and show this guy that I wasn't available so I felt the need to soften the blow with overpaying a couple hundred and he took the money walking off with a frown.
"She did what any good girl would do, she went to her priest" Marcel replied while I gave Nik a disapproving look over my shoulder at him given he had me practically sitting in his lap.
"That was unnecessary Niklaus" I whispered but he just smiled and leaned closer to my ear.
"I'm showing you my love" he whispered clearly insinuating my song choice and I rolled my eyes while Marcel went on with his story.
"The witches were furious with Kieran, Sophie tells me that the witches put a hex on his nephew Sean, made it seem like he was slowly losing his mind in order to distract Kieran while they kept planning for the harvest" I felt Nik's arm tense around me so I turned to look at him and saw his frown as he stared over at Marcel.
"So they attacked Kieran's nephew?" Nik asked and I raised an eye at him since why was that of relevance.
"Yeah, kid wasn't the same after that ended up going postal killing all his fellow seminary students, all of them and then himself"
"I might have read about that, the boy killed a twin or he was a twin or something" I frowned at the word twin, for a moment my mind going back to my own and knew I really ought to check up on Damon and Stefan...I haven't really heard anything from them all summer.
"No, no, no they said he had a twin sister" Marcel argued and Nik's frown deepened as his arm around my waist slackened just a little bit as he took a drink from his glass but before he could ask anything else his phone rang in his pocket and from where I sat I saw it was Rebekah again.
"I'll take it" I said grabbing his phone from him since this was the second time she's called, call me worried and he seemed to see this in my eyes and nodded allowing me out of his grasp with his phone and I answered it before it could ring out. "What's going on Beks?" I asked immediately"
"Sophia?" she questioned making me roll my eyes.
"Tell me everything's okay Rebekah?" I asked her again more urgently by still cryptic in case I had ears on me as I walked outside.
"We're out in the bayou and I think Marcel's informant just saw us" she replied and my eyes narrowed somehow knowing exactly what had Nik annoyed earlier and rolled my eyes.
"You mean against all logic you and Hayley went out into the bayou where you ran into a man you think may be Marcel's informant and then you lost him?" I asked making sure I understood her right since that meant Hayley was in danger and Marcel's informant was most likely on his way here to tell Marcel about Hayley and the baby since she was showing more than enough for him to come a decent conclusion.
"Yes and now that we've established that I am a failure as a sister-in-law, and a friend and an original and that you've been spending too much time with Niklaus as that sounded exactly like him...you should probably know he's on his way to Marcel right now to rat me out...skinny guy in a hurry, looks like he saw a ghost?"
"I'll handle it but I'll need a distraction to explain my absence"
"I'm on my way" she replied and I hung up letting out a sigh before I headed back inside quickly typing a message into Nik's phone in notes as I slid up beside him and handed him back his phone so he could read the message. 'Rebekah seen by informant, I'll take care of it keep him distracted she's on her way to help'
"Rebekah again?" Marcel asked me.
"She craves attention" Nik replied before I could with a slight nod and I knew that meant he had seen the message, the phone already tucked away.
"So what did I miss?" I asked figuring best to wait for Rebekah and hope this guy wasn't quick on his way to get here.
"You were just getting to the juicy bits" Nik added pulling me back into his lap taking my hand.
"I can't joke around about this" Marcel protested to Nik's choice of words. "I've done a lot in my day but I do have a rule about kids" he added and I frowned knowing that came from a place close to him as he knew all about kids being abused and mistreated so I understood and felt for him knowing how Nik had found him before I'd come into the picture as he goes on continuing to tell us about The Harvest.
"You're the one who stopped it" Nik said as Marcel told us he interfered the elders as they were in the middle of killing the four young girls.
"Kieran knew every detail from Sophie, after his nephew's massacre in the church he was so torn up he left town just before the Harvest but on his way out he came to me and he asked me to stop the Harvest, he knew I didn't want the witches getting any more power and I do have a rule about people abusing kids, so, I did what he asked but I was too late" I frowned since I couldn't believe these witches actually participated in slaughtering their own. "There was something about seeing Davina fight, she didn't just go along to the slaughter you know?
"I do...Marcellus" Nik smiled slightly towards Marcel.
"I felt like she and I...we were kindred spirits"
"You were quite the knight in shining armor, though Davina must realised you owe her as much as she owes you" Nik told him.
"You never could have banned the witches from using magic without her" I nodded agreeing with Nik.
"She's not exactly besties with them, I'm protecting her" Marcel argued looking at us. "A lot of them would like to get their hands on her and kill her to finish the Harvest, if they don't the other girls stay dead and they lose their power"
"And if they you do, you lose yours"
"And Davina loses her life" Marcel protests and I frown right as Rebekah shows up and joins us.
"Isn't this like old times, just how drunk are you three?" she asks us.
"Skating on the razor's edge" Nik replies as he fakes slurring his words and leaning heavily against the bar. "I'm gonna use the loo" he then states as he stands and I look up figuring that was the signal for us to leave. "Join me my love" he asked outstretching a hand towards me and I smirked a little as he made it sound dirty but I took his hand anyway. "We'll be back in a tick" he said turning to Bekah and Marcel who were smiling suggestively at us making me roll my eyes as I followed Nik towards the bathrooms but when Marcel was distracted by Rebekah we changed directions and headed out back.
"You know you made it sound like were hooking up in the bathroom's right?" I asked Nik as we headed outside.
"At least it's an excuse Marcel would believe to give us enough time to find this Tomas" he smirked and I growled lowly at him.
"It makes me sound like some cheap hooker" I argued.
"We've hooked up in many public places Sophia"
"Yeah but even I have standards and this place doesn't cut it" I remarked glaring at him.
"Well I'm sorry my love, would you like to go back and explain what we're really doing?" he asked and my glare intensified before I looked over his shoulder since we'd stopped and saw a guy walking in quite a hurry and looking over his shoulder as if he was being followed so I stepped around Nik and approached him.
"Tomas, I presume?" I asked making him stop with a step backwards especially as Nik stepped up behind me making me frown, I didn't need his help which I made a show of proving as I stepped forward grabbing the guys shoulder squeezing down to stop any ideas of escape and with the way he cringed and the sound of his heart told me he was human meaning I wouldn't need Nik's help. "Marcel asked me to find out what you know about the dead witches" I told him as I lead him away from the bar and behind an SUV.
"I...I heard they were going after some pregnant werewolf" he replied making me fake a smile even though I wanted to maim him since that werewolf was holding everything to me. "She was stupid being out there all alone" he then added chuckling.
"Yeah, she was" I agreed even though I didn't mean it. "It's amazing how gullible some people can be"
"Yeah" he nodded smiling at me but I'd dropped the pleasantries and immediately grabbed his head twisting his neck snapping it letting him drop to the ground with a thud before I turned and found Nik smirking at me. "What?"
"I almost forgot how sexy my wife was when she was killing someone" I scoffed and shook my head at him.
"Your incorrigible Niklaus" I scolded him as I started to walk back towards the bar leaving him to clean up and dispose of the body before he joined me and we went back in seeing only Rebekah at the bar.
"That was fast work Rebekah, where's Marcel?" Nik asked taking his seat back. "In there touching up his lipstick?" he pointed to the bathrooms with a smirk.
"Credit me with some taste, it's filthy in there as I'm sure Sophia here agrees" I sniggered nodding my head since at least one Mikaelson was on my side about sex in places like this, it was just nasty. "Where'd he go?" she then asked us and my smile fell as we looked at her.
"He didn't tell you he was leaving?" Nik asked her.
"No" Beks breathed out. "Do you think he realized we were stalling him?" she asked.
"No..." Nik replied before his face suddenly fall coming to some sort of conclusion as he stood up. "...unless he was stalling us" he grabbed his jacket putting it back on and my face dropped even more with that knowledge.
"Where'd you leave Hayley?" I asked Rebekah as we all started leaving the bar.
"Out there with the witch" I frowned shaking my head.
"Well next time she decides to go back to a place she was nearly killed or better yet anywhere dangerous, pick up the phone and call"
"He didn't tell you?" she asked looking over at Nik and I turned my head towards him as well.
"No" I growled out annoyed.
"I called him and told him"
"Before or after you were in the bayou?" I asked her and she frowned.
"After"
"Well I'd prefer the call beforehand and preferably to me directly" I spat before I went over to the car where Nik was with the passenger door open ready for me. "You and I are gonna talk at home" I told him before grabbing the door and closing it myself seeing him look over at Rebekah before the two of them got in the car and I ignored his looks as we drove back towards the city with him dropping Rebekah and I off at the plantation while he went back into the city to confront Marcel and the moment I walked in and saw Hayley I let out a sigh of relief forgetting the anger I was feeling for now.
"I don't care if we have to get you a leash that was your last trip to the bayou" Rebekah scolded her as she headed over to Nik's alcohol rack and grabbed a bottle and three glasses putting them down and started pouring out shots. "What is it with you and those wolves anyway?"
"I feel like we're connected somehow" Hayley replied looking at her. "I don't know maybe it's just some pipe dream that I have of finding any real family out there but sometimes when I feel like it's me against the world, it keeps me going" I was surprised when I saw Rebekah give her a sympathetic look before she handed Hayley a glass of Klaus' scotch before holding one out towards her.
"Rebekah she's pregnant" I said rolling my eyes.
"Oh right" she said realizing before downing the drink herself. "Well if you ask me, family is a pain in the behind just ask Sophia she'll agree with me" she added and I couldn't help laughing a little.
"She may be right but try being a twin to a brother that lead me to believe he was dead for nearly 150 years while also marrying the world's biggest pain in the ass" I remarked seeing Bekah laugh nodding while we clinked our glasses to that seeing Hayley roll her eyes "And as for being in it alone, how dare you" I remarked back at Hayley since I liked to believe she wasn't alone.
"She's right I don't ruin a perfectly fabulous pair of boots traipsing through the bayou for just anyone" Rebekah added and Hayley smiled at her reply while Beks downs a second drink but our conversation is interrupted when Nik suddenly walks in through the front door. "Nik, finally, what–" she cut herself off when Elijah walks through the door after him with a huge smile "Elijah, you're safe!" she immediately runs to Elijah and hugs him tight, I smile at the interaction before I move in for a hug of my own.
"Glad you back 'Lijah" I smiled at him as I stepped back.
"Now that you're home, is your first plan to kill Niklaus?" Rebekah gibed making me laugh just a little.
"Excuse me, just a moment" Elijah suddenly said with a smile on his face as he kissed Rebekah's forehead before disappearing and I noticed Hayley had left the room and couldn't help smiling a little knowing exactly where he was going.
"Where's he going?" Rebekah asked looking at Nik.
"Let's just say he's got a twinkle in his eye for Hayley" I winked at Rebekah before I turned to Nik. "You, office now" I told him and he had the gall to smirk before I started walking towards the office.
"Do try to keep it down!" Rebekah yelled out after I heard Nik following me and shut the doors behind him before I turned.
"What am I in trouble for now love?" he asked but I didn't let him finish as I slapped the left side of his face.
"That was for not telling me that Rebekah and Hayley had gone out into the bayou" I spat glaring at him before I then slapped the right side. "That was for the bathroom comment" I grabbed the front of his shirt and pulled him towards me with my lips crashing against his before I stepped back. "That because I felt like it" I smirked seeing his eyes widen just slightly before he cleared his throat.
"Are you done?" he asked and I made a face like I was contemplating the answer before I reached up and smacked him again.
"Three makes us even and yes now I'm done" he let out a soft growl but it wasn't angry or menacing as I could see it in his eyes as they turned golden yellow and the veins began to move beneath his eyes. "No" I warned him like I was telling off a dog but he stalked towards me and I couldn't help smile as I backed up. "Niklaus no!" I exclaimed before letting out a small squeal when my butt hit the edge of the desk and he was right in front of me. "No don't!" I exclaimed right before I started laughing as he began tickling my sides. "Nik...Nik!" he finally stopped and lifted me up to sit on the desk not giving me even a second to catch my breath before his lips smashed against mine and I wrapped my arms around his shoulders as his gripped my waist, his fingers digging in a little but I didn't care.
"Tell me to stop" he suddenly breathed out against my lips before kissing me again.
"What?" I asked with a quick breath.
"All you have to do is tell me to stop and I will" he replied and I was then reminded that I had asked him to take it slow but right now all I wanted was his hands on my body...everywhere but I also wanted him to earn it.
"Yeah your right, we should probably stop" I said sucking in a deep breath to calm myself down as he took a step back but his hands were still on my waist. "I do love you Nik"
"As I love you my love" he smiled pressing a kiss to the top of my head. "I'll be patient as long as you want me to be" I smiled squeezing his upper arms a little as I took another breath before I slid off the table.
"We should probably get Elijah in here, see what he knows" I suggested and he nodded so I stepped away from him fixing my deviled clothes before I opened the doors knowing it was likely that Elijah and Rebekah would have heard all that and it wasn't long before the two were walking in with Hayley since she deserved to know this as well and Elijah immediately got started telling us about his talks with Davina and his learnings of her side of The Harvest.
"Everything that brought us here to New Orleans was a lie, this story that Sophie Deveraux fabricated, this struggle for control of the French Quarter, this war between vampires and witches wasn't over territory at all, this was over Davina" I frowned since what was so special about this teenage witch other than she was a part of The Harvest, was she really all that powerful. "Eight months ago, Sophie Deveraux and her sister Jane-Anne lost everything, now four months after that a young werewolf and Sophia who is pregnant wanders into their restaurant" I frowned at that still bitter for the fact that I'd been the one pregnant and I could be in Hayley's shoes right now. "Suddenly all hope is renewed, Jane-Anne actually sacrificed her life so that her sister can use you to find Davina" Elijah added looking Klaus. "If Sophie Deveraux is successful in capturing Davina, she can return Jane-Anne's daughter back to life, we thought we'd come here to wage a war for power...this is about family, in order to return her niece to life Sophie Deveraux will fight to the death, that makes her more dangerous than anyone"
I frowned looking towards the ground feeling like this entire thing was just getting so much bigger and I feared that I wouldn't be enough to protect Hayley from it since this wasn't just a simple witch wanting to take over the French Quarter anymore, this was a witch willing to take it as far as she has to in order to save her own family without care to anyone else and I was just an ordinary vampire very susceptible to witch magic and even other vampires.
As usual I waited until Hayley was in her room and I could hear her breathing evenly sound asleep before I checked on her then headed for my room frowning at the sound of the heavy rain and thunder outside knowing I wouldn't get much sleep tonight but when I walked into my room my eyes zeroed in on the white candlestick lit on my bedside table with a surprised look.
"I knew you'd need one to sleep tonight, this storms not going to let up until early morning" I turned my head seeing Nik standing by the dresser with another candle lighting it and smiled a little.
"Thank you Nik" I walked over to the bed pulling my boots off before sitting on the bed letting my smile drop since him doing this just proved my earlier thoughts...that I was weak and couldn't possibly protect Hayley and our baby from these witches.
"You alright love?" he asked and I nodded my head even though I had tears ready to cascade down my face the moment I let them. "Soph" he sat next to me and placed his hand under my chin tilting my face up. "You're alright"
"I know, it's not the storm...it's everything" I admitted. "Although the storm is a part of the issue since it's pathetic for a vampire to fear something as small and irrelevant as a thunder storm"
"It's not pathetic, everyone's afraid of something" he argued and I frowned avoiding looking up at him. "What are you really afraid of right now?" he asked seeing right through me even with me not looking at him.
"I can't protect anyone, this war is just getting bigger and I'm not going to be able to protect anyone especially Hayley and our baby, I'm the weakest of weak"
"You're not weak Sophia, you've never been weak even from the day we met you were strong and brave enough to summon and original vampire"
"I didn't know that back then, all to go on was your name that I'd gotten from one of Katherine's old letters and even that was given to me by her handmaiden, I didn't brave Katherine to find it, I was ready to turn tail and run with just the thought of her finding me in her room"
"You still were brave for even trying Sophia and in the end trying in the bravest and strongest things you can do"
"Look at me Nik!" I yelled standing up annoyed at him right now, I didn't need these false reassurances.
"I am looking" he argued standing up grabbing my hands.
"You can't tell me that you don't see me an inferior to you, I'm not an original, I'm not a hybrid and if you were to bite me right now I'd be dead...I'm weak even against my own husband and Hayley is everything but safe with me so how the hell can I protect our baby when I can't even keep them safe now"
"I don't know, I ask myself that everyday about you" he replied and I finally met his eyes completely. "I've feared that I'm not enough to protect you from the day that I met you Sophia, I knew from the moment we met that you were something special and that I had to have you in my life, that I had to protect you from anyone that tried to take you from me whether that be your pathetic ex-fiancé, Katherine...Mikael, I fear that one day I won't be there for you and you'll be taken from me" his hands cupped my cheeks. "And now with the child, I feel even more powerless to keep you, Hayley and the child safe"
"At least you're not scared of a thunderstorm" I sighed and he chuckled.
"Rebekah used to be"
"Really?" I asked smiling a little.
"When we were young, sleeping in our hovel she used to lie awake all night" my face dropped a little.
"Exactly she was a child I'm over 170 years old, I used to get so scared that I'd wet the bed and have to clean them myself in order to hide them from my father, the only one that ever knew was Damon and only because his room was next to mine and he used to hear me wake up screaming over the sound of thunder"
"It's a part of your past love, traumatizing childhood memories have a way of sticking with us no matter how old we are" he replied frowning and I met his look knowing he was talking about his fear of Mikael.
"Damon started the candle trick" I sighed looking over at the candle on my beside table.
"I remember" he nodded looking over at it as well both of us probably reminiscing the same time of our lives where he learnt of my fear of thunderstorms.
I feared this...the day/night the Mikaelson's would learn how weak I was since I'd been lucky so far in the 5 months of my becoming a vampire and staying with them while I learnt how to control my bloodlust and figure out my next move...there hadn't been any severe thunderstorms and tonight we were being hit with a large storm that literally seemed to shake the walls of the Abattoir.
I tried to ignore it, be stronger than I used to be as a human but as the hours ticked by the storm got worse and all my candles were burnt out completely so I tucked my knees up to my chest as I sat on my bed trying to muffle the screams every time a large clap of thunder rocked its way through the house feeling the tears rolling down my face.
I missed Damon since he would always be my side the moment a storm like this rolled in, ready with all the candles he could find in the house and take without risking father finding out and punishing him for the waste as he would call it, for as long as I can remember I've been terrified of storms and after our mother passed away it's only gotten worse.
"Thunder and lighting, aren't so frightening" I tried to repeat that phrase over and over since it's what Damon used to say to calm my down but it just reminded me that he wasn't here, that he was dead and that I was alone, I jumped letting out a scream as I covered my ears as another clap of thunder went off, the entire room rumbling with the force of it.
"Sophia" my head shot up towards my door as there was a knock. "Are you alright love?" I frowned at the sound of Klaus' voice.
"I'm...I'm fine" I called out even though my voice trembled with each word.
"Can I come in?" he asked and I hesitated with my answer since did I want him to see me this scared but I also didn't want to be alone as that was half the problem for my fear right now.
"Y...yes" I breathed out and knew he'd hear me anyway as the door opened and he came in closing it behind him and I watched him approach me in the dark.
"Can I sit?" he asked gesturing to the end of the bed, I nodded my head and he sat down. "What's wrong, your whiter than usual love and I've been hearing you screaming for the past hour"
"It's...nothing" I lied trying to play it off.
"Are you still having nightmares?" he asked making me frown for the fact that he knew about those, I've been having nightmares about my brothers, George and Katherine from day one so I understood why he'd think this was just nightmares keeping me up.
"No, I'm fine real-" I jumped immediately covering my ears as a clap of thunder sounded and he looked out towards the windows where I had the curtains drawn closed so that I didn't see the rain pelting down or the lightning strikes.
"Shh, it's just a storm Sophia" he moved up the bed and grabbed my hand removing it from my ears. "Don't be afraid" I frowned looking down at my lap before he suddenly got up.
"Klaus don't go please!" I begged but he walked across the room and pulled open a drawer in one of the cabinets then walked back towards me putting whatever he'd gotten down on my bedside then a match struck lighting up the room as he lit a candle and my eyes widened a little.
"I didn't know there were extra candles" I admitted watching him smile just slightly in the corner of his lips. "My twin used to light me a candle whenever there was a storm" I found myself admitting to him as I reached my hand out and ran it through the flame feeling it burn for a single moment. "He used to say that candles scare away the storm"
"I was just trying to get some light in here so it wasn't so dark but your twin has a good idea"
"Had a good idea" I remarked correcting him since I had to start referring to my brothers in the past tense. "He used to stay with me all night when we were younger and still in our nursery, I've always been afraid of thunderstorms...I don't know why and I thought it would go away but it hasn't"
"Childhood fears have a way of lingering whether we'd like them to or not" he replied and I had a feeling he was thinking about something himself but it wasn't my business to pry so I stayed quiet just staring into the flames.
"When we got older he had to sneak into my room and he'd stay up and talk with me as long as I needed to in order to calm myself down to sleep not that I ever really did and we usually found ourselves just talking well past the storm and the sun rising on the horizon, my father never approved of course and if he ever caught us we'd be punished since from the moment we moved out of the nursery it wasn't appropriate for Damon to ever be in my room or see me in my nightdress or for 'grownups' to be afraid of a thunderstorm"
"It's alright love, I won't let it hurt you" he smiled again and I found myself smiling back at him.
"Could you...could you stay with me until the storm ends?" I asked him feeling slightly embarrassed for asking but he took one of my hands.
"I'll always stay with you Sophia, if you need me no matter what" I smiled again looking down to hide a small blush from him before he moved to sit on the opposite side of the bed where we just sat up and talked through the storm distracting me and getting to know each other.
"I started to fall for you that night" Klaus admitted as I brought myself out of the memory.
"Really, that night?" I questioned since that was my weakest moment.
"Yes that night, I remembered we stayed up for hours and just got to know each other...it was the first real conversation that I'd had with anyone in centuries and a breath of fresh air, you've always been the breath of fresh air I needed in my life Sophia"
"To be honest I probably started to fall for you that night as well, the moment you brought out the candle even without knowing how much it would mean to me it was exactly what I needed and you just seemed to know that and doing this...remembering even after all these years, it makes me love you all the more than I begun to that night" I squeezed his hands before smiling. "Could you stay with me tonight?" I asked him.
"Always, I told you that" he smiled before reaching up and brushed some hair out of my face behind one ear. "No matter what" I leant up and pressed a kiss to his lips.
"You're the best thing to ever happen to me Nik, I love you so much"
"And I you, love" he cupped my face and deepened the kiss and I didn't care, tonight I willingly gave myself over to him because he deserved it and it was a huge step to earning my trust and respect back not to mention how much I wanted him, wanted us again and feeling his bare skin against mine just felt so right as I completely blocked out the sounds of the storm and focused on nothing else but Nik and I.
