Early the next morning after seeing no Camaro parked outside Melissa headed upstairs to see how Jess was handling a night without her honorary brother. Opening the door she stepped into the room and was surprised to see Jess propped up against a pile of pillows fast asleep with Derek sleeping in her lap. Seeing that Derek was mostly uncovered Melissa picked up a thick blanket from the stack of unused extra bedding on the desk and tiptoed across the room. Carefully settling the blanket over the sleeping man she frowned to see Jess wasn't wearing her sling. Stepping back from the bed she hit a creaky floorboard and it let out a loud sharp creak.
On the bed Derek tensed and slowly started to lift his head. Melissa froze and held her breath not wanting to wake the pair.
The instant that Derek started to shift Jess started to comb her fingers through his hair with one hand, crooning softly to him. While she picked up her phone and checked the time with the other hand. "Shhh, baby, it's alright. Not time to wake up yet. Go back to sleep." Glancing around the room Jess saw Melissa standing beside the bed and frowned a moment until she saw the thick blanket covering Derek. Smiling Jess continued to stroke Derek's hair while he whined softly and snuggled closer to Jess pressing his face tight to her side to block out the early morning light.
Carefully stepping away from the creaky floorboard Melissa grabbed a stack of sticky notes and a pen from the nightstand.
What happened to his car? It's not outside.
Melissa scribbled holding up the note for Jess to read.
Switching so her left hand was stroking Derek's hair and her right hand was free Jess reached out for the pad and pen.
No idea. But he was home late and was really upset.
Jess wrote on a note and handed it to Melissa.
Convinced him to have a long soak in the tub before bed and he came out of the tub really sleepy and clingy.
Jess scribbled on a second note.
Said someone was talking crap. Guessing he means crap about him loosing his family/sister.
Jess wrote on a third.
He has been clinging to me like this all night. He Acts tough but all he really wants when he is upset is to be held
Jess wrote on a fourth note.
Please go outside and burn these notes. I want to live to become a vet some day.
Jess wrote on one last note before handing the stack of sticky notes and the pen to Melissa.
Watching Melissa read the notes and slowly looking more and more sadly and softly down at the man on the bed Jess knew when she reached the last note by the wide smile that split her face. Reaching up Melissa made a cross my heart gesture with her hand before she turned and tiptoed out of the room. Closing her eyes Jess drifted back to sleep with her hand resting lightly on Derek's head.
When Jess's morning alarm went off both Derek and Jess cursed loudly. Jess spent 20 minutes trying to cajole, order, and threaten Derek to get him to go back to bed while she showered slowly on her own for the first time since the Incident, after Derek taped some clingwrap over her injured arm for her.
Coming out of the bathroom after drying off, doing her makeup, and getting dressed, with a towel wrapped around her hair Jess found Derek sprawled facedown across her bed. Grabbing her pills, phone, a scarf, a hairbrush, and a large hair clip Jess tiptoed out of the room followed closely by Anne and softly closed the door behind herself. Tiptoeing down the stairs Jess minced into the kitchen. Grabbing a glass from the cupboard Jess poured herself a glass of juice, grabbed a yogurt, spun around, and walked straight into a rock hard naked chest. Shrieking in surprise Jess managed not to spill any juice but fumbled and dropped the yogurt.
Snatching it out of the air Derek held up the yogurt in one hand and her sling in the other. "Did you forget something?" Derek rumbled crowding close to Jess. Setting the yogurt on the counter behind her Derek gently put her sling on her and firmly placed her arm inside of it. "Just let us pamper you for a little longer." He pleaded softly in her ear leaning close and sniffing deeply at the skin of her neck. "You have an appointment to see the doctor soon and he will tell you if you are ready to loose the sling or not. Until then can you please just wear it?" Derek begged softly nuzzling into her neck and shoulder.
Jess reached up and rested her hand on Derek's chest over his hear preparing to push him out of her way. Feeling Derek's heart racing Jess sighed in defeat and instead started to rub gentle circles on Derek's chest. Any annoyance Jess had felt towards the werewolf and his insistence on Jess wearing the sling and taking things easy melted away as the racing heartbeat slowed down the longer he stood with his face against her neck.
Hearing footsteps on the stairs Derek sighed and lifting his head took a big step backwards to put a bit of space between them.
A moment later Scott breezed through the kitchen grabbing a pack of pop tarts and a bottle of juice and muttering a comment about lacrosse practice before school and work after school before he rushed out of the house. Avoiding eye contact with either Jess or Derek through the entire encounter.
Giving her hair one last rub with the towel Jess stepped into the downstairs bathroom and tossed the towel in the laundry hamper. Reminding Derek that the groceries for that nights supper were already done Jess suggested that he take an easy day and just lounge around the house with Anne after he dropped her off at school. When Derek agreed Jess pulled out her phone and sent a text to Dr. Deaton explaining that Anne wouldn't be attending doggy daycare that day but that Jess would like to send him a text or email or even possibly stop by and talk to him about a joint fundraiser/adoption event idea that she'd had the day before. After sending the text Jess tucked her phone into her sling. "I admit I wiill miss having such a handy place to store my phone when I wear pants that don't have pockets." Jess quipped making Derek roll his eyes.
Taking her pills and eating her yogurt while Derek took her snack basket and laptops back upstairs Jess put the scarf, hair brush, and hair clip in her bag. Finishing her glass of juice Jess loaded the few breakfast dishes into the dishwasher. Seeing Derek standing by the door with Jess's bag and her keys and Anne dancing impatiently around his feet Jess waved at him. "Go ahead and let her out before she puddles on the floor." Jess laughed hearing the dog whining anxiously. Turning to check the counter was clear Jess saw the thermos cups they normally used sitting upside down on a towel in the corner of the counter. Clumsily screwing on the lids Jess tucked them in her sling and headed out the door locking the door behind her.
Derek was standing in the center of the lawn stomping his foot playfully at Anne while she ran stiffly around him in circles play bowing and making odd sounding yowls at him.
Standing on the porch Jess watched them for a few minutes until Anne tired herself out and flopped to the ground at Derek's feet. When Derek went to walk away Anne whimpered softly and stayed lying where she was panting heavily. Glancing back at the dog with a frown Derek stalked back over and effortlessly swooped the dog up and placing her paws over his shoulder and one paw under her hind end he turned and carried her to the truck while she licked his ear over and over. Yanking out her phone Jess managed to snap a few pictures of the pair and shove the phone back in her sling before Derek put the exhausted dog gently into the back seat along with her bag. Walking over to the truck Jess patted it fondly. "I've missed you you beautiful machine you." She crooned. Suddenly thinking of the books she borrowed from Deaton Jess gasped. "The books!"
"I put them on your desk in the house." Derek said calmly. "Silver Psycho had one of him goons smash my car's window so I had to drop it off to get the window repaired. We'll have to take your truck to get around until the Camaro is fixed." Ducking his head slightly Derek turned to Jess. "If that is alright with you." Looking around the front seat of the truck Derek frowned until Jess guessing why he was frowning pulled out the two thermos cups.
"Thanks." Derek and Jess said at exactly the same time pausing a moment before they both laughed.
"Of course it is alright! You can borrow my truck anytime you want to." Jess told the werewolf with a smile.
Not needing to drop off Anne didn't slow Derek's driving at all and the pair ended up at school with their hot drinks much earlier then usual. "Can you hand me my bag. I want to put on some lip gloss. I forgot to put it on while I put on my war paint this morning." Jess said flipping down the visor and staring at her reflection in the tiny mirror.
Grabbing her bag Derek set it down beside Jess and watched as she made faces at herself in the mirror while smearing some sticky lip gloss onto her lips. Putting away the lip gloss Jess started running her fingers through her damp hair trying to tease it apart without making it frizzy. A sudden knock on Jess's window made the pair jump and Jess clutched at her chest gasping. Anne gave a sharp woof from her place in the back seat. Looking out the window Jess saw Lydia standing with her hands on her hips and Allison standing a step or two behind her. Holding up one finger to the girl's Jess turned and put her bag strap over her shoulder and umbuckled her seatbelt. Picking up her tea she turned and blew a kiss into the back of the truck at Anne before leaning over and placing a loud smacking kiss on Derek's cheek leaving a sticky kiss mark behind.
"Gah, I've been slimed." Derek groused. Gently catching Jess around the neck Derek pulled her towards him and placed a soft kiss on the top of her head before releasing her to open the door and scramble out of the truck to join Lydia and Allison. "Get help with your bag!" Derek yelled loudly after her. Opening the window and repeating himself when she didn't acknowledge his command. "Hey! Get help with your bag or I will insist on walking you to the office and having them call on the intercom for a volunteer to carry it for you." Derek growled.
Pulling the bag off Jess's shoulder Allison gave a friendly wave at the man who simply glared at her in response. "I get the distinct impression that he really doesn't like me very much." Allison muttered while the trio of girls turned and walked up the stairs into the school.
"It isn't YOU per say that he has a problem with." Jess hedged awkwardly.
"Oh, so it's just that he hates my dad because of what happened to you and so doesn't like me being around you, or Scott." Allison said sadly.
"Sorry." Jess said with a wince. "He is just really protective of the people he thinks of as family after everything and everyone that he has lost." Jess explained gently trying to reassure the girl and defend Derek at the same time.
Lydia nodded. "The visual yumminess balances out the dark and twistiness quite nicely." Threading her arm through Jess's arm Lydia steered the girl into the closest bathroom. "Now that we have finished bemoanong Derek Hale's emotional inadequancies. What the heck is up with your hair this morning?" Lydia demanded turning Jess to the large mirror and pointing at the damp tangled mess that was her hair.
Moaning Jess covered her eyes and peeked out at it through her fingers. "It is a bitch to do one handed. So far Melissa McCall has been helping me wrangle it each morning but this morning she had to be at work early and I was up late last night so I slept in until after she left for work." Turning to point at her bag she asked. "Could one of you hand me the hair brush and the scarf that are in my bag. I think this morning is looking like it will be an Esmerelda hair day." Seeing the puzzled looks on the other two girls faces Jess rolled her eyes. "Hunchback of Notre Dome gypsy woman with crazy curly hair who just wears a headscarf all the time to contain the curls?" She explained seeing understanding dawn on the girl's faces.
Lydia dug into the bag and while pulling out the hair brush, and scarf she also spotted the large hair clip. "Well I don't care about the hair choices of fictional gypsy woman. But with this stuff I am sure we can do better then just wrapping a scarf around your head." Lydia said pointing at a bench near one wall of the bathroom. "Sit!" She ordered.
Resigning herself to her fate Jess walked over and sat on the bench. Holding up one hand to Lydia she reminded the girl sternly. "Just remember I am still recovering from a fairly serious concussion and have a lot of bruising and some minor cuts on the back of my scalp. It is why I reconsidered using the hair clip this morning."
Pausing a moment Lydia frowned then checked her jacket pockets and pulled out a handful of hair elastics. Leaning forwards she patted Jess's good shoulder and stage whispered. "Don't worry, I'll be gentle."
Turns out Lydia could be surprisingly gently and she had a knack for going hair. Ten minutes later two portions of hair from the front of Jess's head had been braided and gently brought together and tied with a scrap of ribbon Allison had found in one of her pockets to make a sort of crown of hair that held back the rest of Jess's wild curls.
Admiring the hairdo in the mirror Jess turned and gave Lydia a one armed hug. "This looks amazing! Thank you so much." Jess gushed Turning around every which was to admire the hairdo.
Surprised at such a big show of gratitude for such a simple hairdo Lydia laughed. "No big deal, it took like ten minutes." She said returning the hairbrush, scarf, and clip to Jess's bag that was sitting on the bench. "Your carrying on like you've never had a friend do your hair for you." Watching Jess freeze at her place bouncing infront of the mirror and suddenly deflate Lydia's eyes flew wide in shock. "Holy hair accessories! Don't tell me you seriously have never had a friend do your hair up!" She said in disbelief.
Shrugging Jess looked down and fiddled with the edge of her shirt. "I moved around a lot as a kid and was homeschool until my parents died. Then I went through a lot of years of crappy foster homes never really making any friends because I was constantly getting shuffled around and moved to different schools. Then when I finally got my license I was out of there like a bat out of hell and living in my truck for most of a year before the Incident happened and I ended up in the hospital and back in Foster Care. When I was 13 I spent an entire summer in the hospital and got to learn about makeup and nail polish and all kinds of other girls stuff from the nurses. But I had a really, really bad head injury with staples in my skull so the nurses left me hair alone as much as possible because it hurt so bad most of the time and even after it didn't hurt I remembered it hurting and didn't want them touching it. This week having Melissa help me with my hair is the first time since my parents died that anyone has helped me with it."
Finishing her explanation Jess glanced up and saw Allison and Lydia both staring at her with tears in their eyes. As one both girls rushed at her and wrapped her in a gentle hug sniffling quietly one of each side of her head. "Um...there there?" Jess said awkwardly slightly shocked that the girls had such a strong emotional reaction to her story.
"Shush." Allison said sniffling quietly and hugging Jess slightly tighter.
"Not that this wouldn't normally be lovely but deep tissue bruises are really not made for hugging." Jess said gently wincing as the girls gave her one last squeeze.
Releasing Jess Lydia and Allison both turned and checked their make-up and blotted the tears away from their eyes before Lydia announced it was time to go find the boys.
Allison grabbed Jess's bag before Jess could manage to lift it and slung it over her shoulder while Lydia linked arms with Jess again and steered the group towards Jess and Allison's lockers. Approaching the lockers the girl saw Jackson and Danny standing together on one side of the two lockers, Jackson ingrossed in his phone, and on the other side of the lockers stood Scott and Stiles. None of the four boys were speaking to each other.
Seeing the girls approach Danny unlocked Jess's locker and swung the door open and grabbing her bag from Allison he placed it in her locker. Turning he gave a courtly bow and grasping her hand placed a kiss on it. "My dearest heart, my inspiration and muse, my majestic Queen of Drama, your countenance today is as like to the sun with it's shining radiance smiling down upon us like a goddess of light who has such grace as to deem us mere mortals fit to bask in the splendor of her presence." Danny gushed bowing low over Jess's hand.
Beside Jess, Allison and Lydia turned to their respective males expectantly Lydia going so far as to clear her throat loudly to get Jackson's attention.
Looking slightly lost Jackson looked up and muttered. "You look good babe." Before turning back to his phone.
Stiles elbowed Scott hard in the side and gestured towards Allison with a sharp jerk of his head. Swallowing nervously Scott gently took Allison's hand and bowing awkwardly over it he kissed it softly before straightening up and saying quietly. "You look beautiful today Allison. You always look beautiful."
Glaring at Jackson Lydia turned to Allison and muttered. "At least your's tried. I'll see you loosers in class." Before turning and stalking away barking out. "Jackson!" As she went and ignoring him as he scurried after her.
Staring after the two Stiles chucked and leaning close to Scott said loudly. "Man is he whipped!" Before doing a whipping motion and making a whip cracking sound.
Glaring at Stiles Danny snarked. "At least he has someone to handle his WHIP. Have you ever even had someone touch yours?"
"That is none of your damn buisness." Stiles snarked back. Taking a step forwards angrily.
"Down boy." Jess said patting Danny's arm. "I know that Jackson is your friend. But from what I have seen he can be pretty abrasive and snarky to and about people. He shouldn't dish it out if he can't handle having shit said back to and about him." Before Danny could respond Jess turned to Stiles. "And YOU! Don't make snide comment about people behind their backs if ýou aren't ready for their friends to stand up for them." Glancing back and forth at the two chastised boys Jess asked. "Now are we all good?"
Both boys scowled at one another before turning to Jess and nodding grumpily.
Allison leaned close to Jess and whispered quietly. "That was kind of awesome. You are going to make a really kickass mom some day."
Shaking her head at Allison Jess glanced at the time on her phone and joked. "Alright children. Time to head to class."
The day passed quickly. At lunch Jess got a text from Dr. Deaton inviting her to stop by the clinic after school to visit and to talk to the vet about her fundraising idea. Sending a text to Derek to check if he minded the added stop Derek replied instantly that he had no problem dropping her off saying he would run his own small errand for the day while Jess visited with the vet. Smiling happily Jess confirmed the plan with Dr. Deaton. Turning in her seat Jess then informed the Drama club group about the meeting. They had moved from their normal table and were sitting at the table next to the new popular kids table, that had used to be an empty table where Scott and Stiles sat to eat before they got semi-adopted by the cool kids. Stiles still looked perplexed at his sudden change in the high school social status and Scott couldn't care as long as he was with Allison.
Danny just smirked when the move of the Drama club group was mentioned and said snootily that now that He and his Queen had committed to uniting the kingdom of course their loyal subjects had taken to following them around the realm to bask in the Aura of Dramatic Flair that the pair gave off.
The rest of the day was boring with Jess plodding through her placement tests and studying her vet texts until a bit of excitement in gym class. The class was playing basketball shirts vs pennys which Jess learned where cheap, but tough, thin over shirts one team could wear to distinguish themselves, when a hard foul ended with one of the pennys being ripped badly.
Yanking it off the student the Coach gave them a new one and was about to toss the ripped penny in the trash when he saw the girl studying on the bleachers and remembered her slightly disturbing reading from the day before.
Walking over to the girl the coach held up the penny and jokingly asked. "You want to use this for stitching practice?"
Glancing up and seeing the torn tough but thin material Jess nodded eagerly and snatched it from the coaches hand. Turning to sit sideways straddling the bench Jess laid the penny out before her and carefully realigned the ripped edges. Opening her bag she pulled out a black case and carefully unzipped it. Pulling out a pair of forceps, some tiny scissors, and a small plastic pouch she packed away the rest of the kit. Opening the pouch she used the forceps to grasp a tiny curved needle and used it to start neatly stitching the rip closed using tiny perfectly spaced stitches. When she used all the thread attached to one needle she reached into her bag and pulled out another, carefully shoving the used needle into a small cylinder labeled SHARPS. Each time Jess got out a new needle she switched the type of stitches she was doing. By the time class was officially over a large portion of the class including the Coach were standing around just watching the girl stitch. Placing the final stitch right before the bell rang Jess calmly snipped the last thread and tucking the sharp needle into the sharps cylinder she put the forceps and scissors in a small outer pocket on the kit and packed it away in her bag. Ignoring the large crowd Jess stood up and lifting the penny she folded it neatly so the long line of stitches was prominently displayed and handed it to the Coach. "Thanks for the chance to practice my stitches Coach." Jess said with a smile. Turning to Danny Jess pointed questioningly to her bag.
"You go on and head out. I'll bring it to you after I shower." Danny said reaching over and grabbing the bag.
Stepping up to Danny Jess stood on tiptoes and kissed the air beside his cheek adding a loud Mwah sound as she did and saying "Kisses, kisses darling!" As she sashayed away. Halfway across the gym Jess broke out in a cackling laugh and walked normally the rest of the way to the door. As she went to exit the door she over heard the Coach, still clutching the repaired penny saying to the class. "What the hell am I suppose to do with this? It's too neat to throw it away. Do I get it framed?"
Walking out of the school Jess smiled to see Derek once again standing watching a crowd standing a short distance away fuss and love on the friendly dog. The only difference being that today he was leaning against Jess's Tardis. Reaching Derek Jess copied his position leaning against the hood of the truck and watching the dog.
Glancing at Jess and giving her a slight smile Derek did a double take and ended up staring at the girl, his head tilting slightly to one side as he seemed to do anytime he was confused. "What happened to your hair?" Derek asked. When he saw her expression fall he quickly continued talking. "It looks good. How did you manage that with one hand?"
Smiling Jess reached up to touch her braided crown. "Lydia did it for me this morning when she heard I was planning to just wrap a scarf around my hair for the day." Jess told him.
"Like Esmerelda? That would have looked good too." Derek murmered and reached up to push some wispy curls back behind her ear.
Grabbing his hand loosely Jess ducked and spun towards him so that she was standing with her back against his chest with his arm around her shoulder still gently holding his wrist. "Neither of the girls got the reference when I pointed to my scarf and said today looked like an Esmerelda hair day." Jess said sadly. "I feel so out of touch with today's youth. Which wouldn't be so bad except that I technically am one of today's youth." Jess continued mournfully.
Derek chuckled squeezing Jess gently for a second. "Thank goodness you aren't like most people your age or I would likely be chained up in an Argent dungeon being tortured right now."
Unsure how to answer such a statement Jess simply leaned back into Derek and relaxed while they waited for Danny to bring her bag.
A few minutes later Danny came bouncing up to them looking confused. "What happened to the pretty, pretty car?" He whined softly gesturing to the truck the pair was leaning against.
Gasping in outrage Jess pulled away from Derek hissing. "Quick Derek, cover her ears." Stalking angrily up to Danny she yanked her bag away from him growling. "How DARE you suggest my precious magical Tardis isn't just as pretty of a vehicle as Derek's flashy new Camaro!" Turning Jess flounced angrily to the passenger door and tossing in her bag Jess clambered angrily up into the passenger seat closing the door firmly behind her.
Standing in shock infront of the truck Danny turned to Derek. "What the hell just happened?"
Smiling at the boy in a way that showed just a few too many teeth Derek shrugged and whistling happily to the dog he walked over and opened the back door he lifted her up into the back seat. Pausing before he got into the driver's seat he took pity on the unhappy looking young man and called. "If I were you I would work on a big flowery written apology and possibly a thoughtful gift if you want to get back in her good gracess."
"For Jess?" Asked Danny still unsure what exactly he did to make her so angry.
Derek just chuckled. "No, for her precious Tardis."
Getting in the truck Derek peeled out of the parking lot. A short while later they were at the Animal Clinic. Hopping down from the seat of the truck Jess looked up at Anne seated in the back seat and sighed.
Before she could try and struggle to lift the dog down Derek had scrambled out of the truck and gently lowered the dog to the ground. "Just shoot me a text when you are ready to be picked up." Derek called climbing back up into the truck and sitting in his seat to watch to for sure Jess got safely inside the clinic.
Calling the dog to heel Jess led Anne into the clinic smiling as the dog rushed around the room smelling everything.
"I think she is checking to be sure we kept everything to her high standards during her short absence." Dr. Deaton drawled playfully from the doorway to the exam room.
Walking through the swinging half door that kept animals in the exam room from being able to rush out of the exam area Jess smiled brightly at the vet and called Anne to join them in the exam room. The half door was often left tied open when no animals were wandering freely in the clinic but the rule was to always leave it how it had been found unless you needed to close it to contain a loose animal so Jess allowed to to swing shut behind her. Following the vet through the exam room and into the break room Jess accepted a mug of tea and sitting down on one end of the couch she began to explain her idea about dressing up adoptable animals in costume and posing them infront of backdrops to make a cute calendar and posters to sell to raise funds that could be split between the Animal Clinic and the Drama Club. Making sure to also mentioning her idea that all the animals used would have a small description and adoption details listed in the calendar to help boost their chances of being adopted Jess paused to wait for the vets reaction to her idea.
Smiling widely Dr. Deaton said it was a wonderful idea and offered one of the better lit storage rooms to use as a secure staging area to set up the backdrops and take the pictures of the animalsoffering to let the students stored any completed backdrops, props, and costumes in the room until they were done with the project.
Finishing sorting out the few details that could be sorted out so early in the project Jess settled back into the cushions and asked the vet how things were going at the clinic in the short time she had been gone.
Sighing Dr. Deaton replied. "I can hardly wait until you are healthy enough to come back to work. Obviously we will need to reconfigure your hours somewhat but we definitely still have enough work to keep you and Scott busy. Especially if you also intend to pick up some work at the auto shop."
Relieved to still have her job Jess smiled. "The boys at the shop sent me an email telling me to get well soon but I haven't actually spoke to them about weather I still have a job. I need to let my body heal first and I also need to adjust to going to school again and living in an actual building instead of living in my truck. And the whole family and close friends thing is kinda throwing me for a loop. I keep accidently making my friends and family cry. It's never intentional and they always tell me it's not my fault but it always happens right after I talk to them or while I am talking to them. They are all so emotional about things. It's nice but also kind of exhausting." Blushing when she realized how much Jess had just overshared with the vet Jess groaned. "And my freaking filter that stops me from over sharing, or cooing when I think someone is hurt or scared is officially FUBAR." Jess grumbled staring down into her cup intently as if it held the answers to all the most important questions in the universe.
Smiling gently at Jess Dr. Deatong shrugged. "I've always found that bad accidents can make people emotionally fragile for a time. They are more prone to sharing and caring and showing their emotions. It doesn't mean your broken. It just means your subconscious is trying to get a support system in place to help protect you from getting hurt again." Finishing the last of his tea the vet stared down into the empty cup. "I have also found that when you tell people who care about you about the hardships that you have over come they tend to get a bit overly emotional. Often the more protective and overly emotional the person is the more they truly care about you." Standing up Dr. Deaton cleaned his cup and set it on the drying rack. "I have some things to do in the back. Feel free to take your time enjoying your tea and relaxing. I am sure we will talk quite often over the next few weeks while we plan out the calander. Feel free to text me anytime. Not just pertaining to the calendar but anytime you have a problem you beive I could help you with. Or even just for advice. " The vet said turning and promptly left the break room. Pulling out her phone Jess texted Derek that she was ready to go home.
When the pair got home Jess dressed the chicken while Derek peeled the potatoes, chopped them, and set then to boil. Washing her hands first Jess added a large pinch of salt to the potato water and had Derek put the chicken in the over. Setting an alarm to come down and check on the chicken and finish the meal Jess headed to her room to check her emails. It wasn't long before supper was ready and for the first time since moving into the McCall house the entire household sat down together to eat dinner.
Derek, who had been slightly on edge the entire time he had helped with dinner and lounged around Jess's room while she checked her emails, cleared his throat. "I have some early morning errands I need to run and I won't be able to drive Jess to school." He apologized softly looking extremely upset.
Scott looked up startled when Melissa kicked his chair. "Oh, um I am sure I can get Stiles to pick us both up instead of biking to school." Scott said. "Not sure about after school though. I have plans."
"That is fine. Jess and I have our own plans for after school." Melissa said.
Looking up from where she had been using her fork to fend of Derek's latest attempt to slip extra food onto her plate Jess stared at Melissa clearly confused. "We do?"
Rolling her eyes Melissa nodded. "I will be picking you up at lunch. You have a couple of appointment in the afternoon. We should be home shortly after school is over though."
When supper was over Melissa insisted the she and Scott would pack away the leftover and do the dishes.
After making sure the pair knew to simply place the cover on the roasting pan and place the entire pan unto the fridge because Jess needed it for the soup recipe she wanted to use the next day Jess left them to their cleaning and headed upstairs to bed.
"I'm going to be patrolling a lot tonight. Keep your windows locked. I will use the front door if I want to come inside. I likely won't be home until after you go to school in the morning." Derek said tucking Jess into her bed.
Yawning sleepily Jess nodded. "Do you prromise you will take a nap tomorrow during the day then?" She asked trying not to fall asleep before Derek gave her the promise.
Leaning in Derek pressed a soft kiss to her forehead. "I promise I will nap tomorrow, now go to sleep." By the time he had finished talking the girl was fast asleep.
