Note: This chapter was meant to go up last week, but due to circumstance outside of my control I had to delay it to today. Worry not though, as there's a special surprise announcement at the end of the chapter!

The Boggart in the Wardrobe

In Harry's dream training, Merlin was watching Harry direct magic into his sword to perform small spells.

"Very good Harry," Merlin encouraged, "but now I think we should walk and talk before you wake. Come." Harry lowered his sword before they walked through what seemed to be a field. Harry knew it was just really a dream – this all was. "There are things you should know about Excalibur," Merlin nodded to the sword in Harry's grip.

"More things?" Harry asked.

"Being the Master of Excalibur during Arthur's and my time came with a great respect among wizard kind. People understood the power of Excalibur," Merlin explained. "But by Godric's time, revealing you own Excalibur was dangerous to wizards – most of them coveting Excalibur for themselves. They would try to kill the owner to claim it as their own."

"Would that work?" Harry asked, knowing the sword chose him, not the other way around.

"Excalibur is not a wand," Merlin said. "It will not change allegiance due to its owner being disarmed or killed. In fact, should you be struck down, the killer trying to take the sword would backfire on them, the sword killing the attacker in vengeance. This doesn't mean wizard kind knows. Most wizards are very stupid of late..." Merlin gave a sigh at this as Harry gave a nod. "It's why Godric only told those closest to him. You have already told your sister Harper and Hermione; I believe there is one more you want to tell?"

"I do," Harry said with a nod, having tried to figure out how to tell Neville for a while now.

"While wizard kind has no understanding of Excalibur, Muggles legend speak more truer of it than wizard, but there are other creatures who do understand; Centaurs for one. Should you be faced with them, you could reveal your weapon and they will show you the respect being the wielder of Excalibur deserves," Merlin stated.

"Thank you," Harry said. "That might come in handy." His mind momentarily went to the riddle for the Ravenclaw key. They were still trying to figure out the 'ford' comment.

"One more thing, your new living mentors, the Flamels," Merlin said. "They are old and wise. They understand more than most would. I would encourage you to trust them fully so you can fully take advantage of all the knowledge they have to bequeath you."

"I will," Harry said.

"And now it is time for you to wake," Merlin smirked at this, and Harry could feel the now familiar sensation of being dragged into his waking body as he left this dream plane of existence.

-Harry Potter-

It was morning and Harry, Hermione, Harper, and Neville were sitting at the Gryffindor Table.

"It seems everyone else but us were taken for their test yesterday," Neville said. "Susan says they will be teaching her warding and other type of shields – something she's always been interested in," he explained.

"Padma said they have knowledge of old Indian magic not taught in Britain. She's excited to learn it and share it with her sister," Hermione added.

"Draco's been bragging to everyone they will be teaching him ritual magic," Harper said with an eye roll. The others had to laugh at this.

"And we all know Ron is wand lore, making and magic," Harry said to another laugh from the four. "Guess we're going to be told for ourselves today."

"Hey!" It was Ron showing up now, "look, I made it!" In his hands was a wand; it was the best looking of all of Ron's wand yet. "Dragon scales, yew wood, and 9 and a half inches. It's a beauty."

"Did it choose you?" Harry had to ask.

"Well… No, but I can use…" Ron began, seeming disappointed this wand didn't choose him either.

"Can I see it?" This was Ginny who had come up, seeing her brother so excited and noticing why. "Please, Ron?" Ginny added, seeing Ron seemed unsure.

"Be careful," Ron said, holding it out to his sister who smiled as she took it.

As she gave it a wave, light surrounded her and the wand and several objected levitated around her. Eyes turned to Ginny as the light died down.

"Wow. It seems the wand has an owner," Harry said as Ron stared in disbelief.

"But… but…" Ron said obviously upset.

"Ron, as Olivander says," Neville said and several people joined Neville as he said: "the wand chooses the wizard."

"Or in this case, witch," Hermione correct afterward as Ginny was smiling at her new wand.

"Fine! The Flamels are going to teach me how to make even better wands anyway," Ron said with a smile as he started eating.

"Big day for you Gin," Fred said coming up.

"You can stop using our great grandma's wand," George added in.

"And your Gryffindor's new seeker," Fred completed.

"What?" Ron asked, turning back to face the two.

"Oliver wanted to get the seeker position filled quickly," George said. "And Ginny showed up and was the best one."

"Oliver thinks we have a chance. He even bought a new broom – same American company as the ones Harry and Harper let us use," Fred said. "Oliver says America makes decent enough brooms – nothing as good as the Firebolt or Nimbus, but reasonably priced brooms that aren't too bad."

"Others on the team are looking into it too," George added.

"Good," Harry said not caring that much, but gave Ginny a smile which made her blush. "We're not that big on Quidditch in the States, but I'm glad we make good enough brooms. Come on, Mione. We have Defense. First one – and I don't want to be late!" Hermione gave a smile and followed Harry out.

"We have Defense later today," Neville pointed out to Harper.

"Yep after lunch, but I have a free period now. Going to go do homework in the dorms before Potions," Harper said, getting up. "Hey Ginny," Ginny turned to Harper, her face still a little red from Harry's compliment. "Stop thinking of Harry as the boy-who-lived and think of him as just Harry," Harper didn't say more as she left and headed for Slytherin Common Room.

Neville noticed Fred, George, and Lee Jordan were huddled together now though.

"What are you three doing?" Neville asked.

"Don't worry," Fred said.

"Nothing to do with your Fab Four secret," George added. "Just a little revenge against Slytherin for a comment Draco made about our hair."

"It will be epic," Lee Jordan added as the three continued to talk amongst themselves, and Neville shrugged, deciding to leave it alone.

-Harry Potter-

"Any ideas on how to tell Neville?" Harry asked Hermione, having whispered to her about his dream with Merlin as they walked.

"I think just being straight forward and telling him," Hermione said as they entered the classroom and sat down, both going to take out their books.

"Books away, now," Remus called as he entered the classroom; all Gryffindors and Ravenclaws were already waiting there. "I have a practical lesson for us today, but we're going to need to take a little trip. Please, follow me…"

"Oh, sorry to interrupt," Nicholas Flamel had come to the door at this point. "I need Ms. Granger."

"Ms. Granger," Remus said, indicating for Hermione to go with Nicholas Flamel and Hermione, a little reluctantly considering she wanted to know what the practical lesson was, took her stuff and left the room with him. "Now everyone else, follow me," Remus led them from the classroom and to the stairs, all the students wondering where their new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher was taking them. They almost ran into Peeves, too, who flew the other direction, away from them, as they approached until finally, they reached the teacher lounges – where Severus Snape was sitting.

"Professor Snape," Remus said greeting the man pleasantly, and Harry, who knew a bit of the history between the two, wondered how they would interact with each other.

"Professor Lupin," Severus Snape said with a nod, raising an eyebrow at the appearance of the class. "I was under the impression that your classroom was located near the Hospital Wing, not here…?"

"I'm going to be doing a demonstration here for the 3rd year Ravenclaw and Gryffindors. You are welcome to stay and watch," Remus responded, to a raised eyebrow from the Potions teacher.

"Thank you, but I think I will take my leave and prepare for my own class," Severus said giving his colleague a frown. He looked at the class and then left the room.

"Professor Snape and I have some history," Remus explained for the class, "I expect him to be professional when in my presence, however," he added, glancing to Harry as he said this; the Gryffindor student knowing exactly what Remus was on about. "Now, inside this wardrobe is a Boggart," Remus continued for the class, pointing at the wardrobe in the corner of the room – and the class could see it shake. "Can anyone tell me what a Boggart is?" Harry slowly raised his hand. "Yes, Mr. Potter?"

"It's a being who takes the shape of your deepest fear," Harry explained. "No one knows what it looks like, since it always shapeshifts the moment it's in the presence of a person."

"Very good, 5 points to Gryffindor," Remus said. "Now, I need a volunteer." Remus looked around the room. "How about you?" Remus pointed at Ron who pointed at himself in surprise. "Yes, Weasley right? I've had your brothers and sister so far. Come on up here," Ron nervously stepped forward. "Now, the only thing that will make a Boggart retreat is laugher – and a very simple spell to get rid of it: Riddikulus. Now, everyone, take out your wands and with me, wave your wand thusly and repeat after me. Riddikulus!"

"Reddikulus!" The class chorused.

"You've got the wand movement a little wrong there, Mr…?" He was looking at Dean now.

"Thomas. Dean Thomas," Dean blushed as he was pointed out.

"Not the only one," he glanced at some of the Gryffindor girls now. "It's this movement, with the spell. Now come on, try again," Remus instructed.

"Riddikulus!" The class chorused once more, Dean and the girls having the wand movement better now.

"Good, good! Now, Mr. Weasley, what is your deepest fear?" Remus turned to Ron now.

"S-spiders," Ron mumbled and got a few laughs.

"Now class, I'd like to see you laugh if you're faced against fifty Acromantula, all wanting to feast on your flesh," Remus shut the class up at this, but it did cause the color to completely drain from Ron's face as he said this. "Now, how can we make a spider funny," Remus asked Ron.

"Um… Remove its legs?" Ron asked.

"Not quite as funny, more macabre," Remus pointed out.

"How about put them in roller skates?" Ron decided.

"Good thinking. I want you to picture a pair of roller skates on the end of the spider's legs. See it clearly in your mind," Remus instructed, and Ron nodded. "Got it?" Ron nodded again. "Now, when I open this wardrobe, the Boggart will instantly turn into the spider. I want you to picture the roller-skates and say the spell." Ron nodded, determined at this.

Remus opened the wardrobe and instantly, a giant sider came out and straight towards Ron. Ron looked afraid as it moved closer, it's pincers expanding, bloodlust in its many eyes…

"Riddikulus!" Ron finally yelled out and on each of the spider's legs came a skate and the spider was suddenly flailing around on them. The class started to laugh at the peculiar sight, and the Boggart quickly retreated into the wardrobe.

"Very good," Remus said. "Now class, line up to take your turn."

Harry took a place in the line and wondered what his greatest fear was. The only thing that came to mind was the night on the train when the Dementor came close to him… the feeling it produced. Yes, Harry knew as he waited on people facing snakes, clowns and in one unusual case a spinning Christmas Tree, that it was the Dementor for him. Then, of course, Harry had to try to figure out how to make it funny and the only thing he could think of was making it rainbow colored or maybe removing its hood to reveal something stupid, like a monkey.

As Harry stepped forward, however and the Boggart only just started to change when Remus was fast in getting between Harry and the thing; once Remus was between them, the boggart changed into a silvery orb. Remus shouted 'riddikulus' and changed it into a deflated balloon that sped around the room before it flew back into the wardrobe.

"Well, I think that's good enough for today. Five points for every Gryffindor and Ravenclaw who faced the Boggart and an extra five point to Mr. Weasley for stepping forward first. Please, read the section on Boggarts for homework. Class dismissed," Remus said, and with class officially over, everyone started to collect their things. "Mr. Potter, please, walk with me," Remus added.

Harry gave a small smile, following Remus, the pair now alone.

"I'm sorry, Moony," Harry said, knowing that the silvery orb the Boggart had turned into was, in fact, the moon.

"No need," Remus said with a smile as he started to lead Harry toward his office.

"I didn't know what to change my Boggart into though," Harry pointed out now.

"You know, I was honestly wondering if I should have let you face it. I thought we'd get Voldemort though…" Remus pointed out.

"I'm not afraid of Voldemort, but the way the Dementors made me feel…" Harry mused.

"A Dementor? Well, that means your greatest fear is fear itself. Very sensible. I think I'll have to help you with that," Remus said, giving Harry a smile as they entered his office. "But not why I asked you to follow me…" Harry noticed that the office was different from last year when Lockhart was there; gone were all the portraits, signed autographs and books by Lockhart himself, now it had various creatures, including a grindylow in a tank, not to mention some items of dark significance, such as what Harry recognized as a Sneakoscope. "Sorry for the mess. I haven't had much time to unpack yet. But this is what I wanted to show you..."

"Some parchment?" Harry asked as Remus directed his attention to the papers on his desk.

"When I was in school with your father and our friends, we made a map of the school. We called it the Marauders Map and it showed not only the school, but where everyone in the school was," Remus pointed out. "We lost it to Flich a long time ago; I have since tried to use my position as teacher to get it back but seems someone took it from him. Without the original, I have decided to make a new one."

"That's brilliant! You can do that?" Harry asked.

"Your father had the notes and I thought they were destroyed that night, but he left them for me in a certain Gringotts vault," Remus smirked at this, and Harry had to smile. "I can remake it, but it will take time. Once we have it, should Sirius enter the school, we'll know."

"You think he's coming here?" Harry asked.

"He was spotted nearby by a muggle," Remus said, showing Harry the Daily Prophet with the title 'Black Heading to Hogwarts?'. Harry was surprised the school hadn't been all talking about it, how all the students loved gossip. "He's definitely coming here, Harry, but I don't understand why."

"Let him come. We'll be ready to save him," Harry said after a moment.

"Hmm. Well, get to your next class before you're late," Remus mused, and Harry gave a nod and headed out of the office and towards the dungeons. He had potions next.

-Harry Potter-

While her Defense Against the Dark Arts class was continuing, Hermione was brought back to the Flamel's own classroom and sat at the table. Nicholas then put a large paper test in front of her and told her to take her time. Hermione focused completely on the questions; they were a mix of magical questions and muggle science questions. Hermione smiling as she continued with the knowledge she'd alone know.

"Done," Hermione finally said, putting down her pen – since year one she had taken up Harper and Harry lead and used a pen instead of a quill.

"Not bad timing," Perenelle spoke.

"If she did everything right…" Nicholas countered, taking the test from Hermione.

Hermione grew nervous as the two Flamels looked over the parchment; both commenting and pointing. Hermione couldn't hear what they were saying though, even though they were close. Hermione could only suspect some type of privacy spell was in use.

"Well, you did really well," Nicholas said putting the parchment done. "Some minor mis-steps on the more complicated problems, but nothing not expected, and you even exceeded our expectations on certain problems." Hermione let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding. "Which brings me to my offer for your apprenticeship, Ms. Granger. I would like to teach one more student my most beloved topic before I die: Alchemy. Of our eight apprentices you are the most qualified to study the subject."

"Wow. Yes," Hermione said before Nicholas could even continue. "I'd love to."

"Very good," Nicholas said giving a smirk. "I will send you an owl on days and times you must come here. Considering your little advantage with time, I'll look over your schedule and see when we should do this."

Hermione's eyes widen a little, surprised that Nicholas knew. "You'd think Albus wouldn't tell us?" Perenelle added and Hermione gave a little nod. "You may go, Hermione," With that, Hermione took her stuff and exited the room.

-Harry Potter-

Harry was sitting in the Potions classroom with Ron. The boy was talking about what he wanted his next attempt at a wand to be, but Harry had to do a double-take as every Slytherin that walked into the classroom had red hair and freckles – even Ron seemed shocked.

"I'm going to kill your brothers!" It was Harper stopping at their table; her normally blonde hair was a dark red.

"I'll join you," it was Daphne and Tracey, both supporting red hair themselves.

"Fred and George," Ron sighed.

"They put some type of jinx or something on the Slytherin common room entrance. Everyone who is walking in or out get this," Harper complained. "And we know it's them because they took credit for it. Painting on the wall. Taking tips from Tom Riddle now?"

"Who's Tom Riddle?" Ron asked and noticed the glare. "Okay, not the point."

"Honestly, I think the dark red suits you Harp," Harry pointed out, but shut his mouth in a moment at her glare. "I'll see if I can reverse it," Harry decided, giving a chuckle, and taking out his wand. He was about to point it at his sister when Severus Snape came into the room.

"Wands away," the Potion Master called, making Harper turn to him and he paused as he looked at her. Professor Snape taking a step backward. "Ms. Evans?"

"Hi," Harper said confused on the look.

"You look like your aunt," Severus Snape said after a moment, his pale face going even paler.

"My mom?" Harry asked, but Professor Snape ignored this comment.

"Thank you," Harper decided to take the compliment, getting the look and statement now as Severus Snape looked around.

"Why do all of Slytherin have red hair?" The professor asked.

"A prank," Harper stated. "Anyone going in and out of Slytherin common room and this happens."

"I was about to try to reverse it," Harry said, indicating his wand.

"Put your wand away," Severus Snape sighed, taking out his own wand and Harry, doing as told, put his wand away. Snape moved his around and mumbled a spell under his breath. There was a glow and then every Slytherin in the room were back to their normal hair color. "I shall have the common room unjinxed before lunch and once I find the culprit, a suitable punishment will be given."

"Thank you, Professor," all the Slytherins said together.

Professor Snape put instructions for today's potion on the board as everyone went to take their seats. Harper and Harry, meanwhile, were confused as Draco, still in his sling, sat at the same bench as them with Ron.

"Professor, I can't cut the ingredients," Draco called.

"Weasley, cut Draco ingredients," Severus Snape called, and Harry elbowed Ron so he wouldn't complain.

"Excuse me?" A voice spoke, and the class looked around to see Nicholas and Perenelle Flamel had entered the room. "We need Harry Potter and Harper Evans."

"Oh go," Severus said to the two as they collected their things.

As Harry grabbed his bag a baseball fell out of it. Harry grabbed it and got an idea. "Hey Draco!" Harry yelled and threw the ball right at Draco's face. Draco moved his arm that was in the sling and caught the ball on instinct. "Hey, your hand seems fine to me, Malfoy."

Draco's eyes widen as he realized what Harry had done as Harry went towards the Flamels. "Potter, detention tonight!" Snape snapped, and Harry gave a nod. "And Mr. Malfoy since you can clearly use the arm, cut your own ingredients."

"Was that worth it?" Perenelle asked Harry as they left the classroom.

"Completely," Harry said. "Although Harper, if you could get that baseball back for me…?"

"I'll see what I can do," Harper said trying not to giggle at her brother's antics as they walked with the Flamels.

Post chapter note: So, as you may be able to tell, this has been ended in a sort of cliffhanger as the Flamels still need to see Neville and put Harry and Harper to test. Because of this, you're going to get another chapter in 2 weeks' time! Yes, this is a one-off right now, we're not going back to an update every 2 weeks, but we need to celebrate something, and the next chapter will work very well for that. Hehe. Keep tuned for more!
