Konohagakure

Then Kai and Yuma-san had returned to the carriage, Ichiro-san had been really angry at them. Kai simply had apologized and smiled. The promise had been still clear in his mind. But for the first time in his life, he had felt truly happy.

Now they stood in front of the gates of Konohagakure. In his one hand Kai held his luggage, in the other his passport. The psychologist had never left the Lands of Earth and was impressed with the village. Yuma-san seemed to notice this and he patted him on his back. Kai turned his gaze towards and saw how the Konoha shinobi grinned. He spread his arms wide.

"Welcome to Konoha, Kai-kun! Home to many clans… And famous ninjas! In every generation we practically have a living legend! In this generation we have Hatake Kakashi, famous as the copy-ninja. He has, sorry, had a Sharingan in one of his eyes. He is now the Rokudaime! We have Uzumaki Naruto, the village hero who defeated Pain who was a pain in the ass! We have Rock Lee and Might Guy, the most powerful Taijutsu users the world has ever seen! Oh! How about we do some sightseeing? Or are you hungry? I know the perfect shop to fill our stomachs!"

"I would first like to have a room in a hotel." Kai deadpanned.

"Oh, right. If you want to, you can sleep on my couch!"

"I'll pass. Sorry, Yuma-san. I will most likely get annoyed with your… mannerisms."

"I'm sorry. But look, it would be a lot cheaper. Besides, I like to have company. And, we are family, remember? But if you truly want a hotel room, that's okay."

"Fine. I will live with you."

"Great! So, let's get home!" he yelled and grabbed his hand.

Then he rushed towards the place he called him. Kai was forced to keep step with him with a luggage in one hand. He feared that he might let go of his belongings and then it would spill on the street to everyone to see what he had. But thankfully, it didn't. However, being dragged like that, was uncomfortable and embarrassing.

"Yuma-san! Can we just walk normally to your home?" Kai asked him.

"Nope! Let's have fun! Besides, it's a good training!" he shouted.

"So, you're a training maniac."

"Training… maniac?" he repeated while stopping midtracks.

Kai almost tumbled over but he caught himself just in time. Well, that was unexpected. He actually offended Yuma-san. And now he looked like a depressed man similar to a certain Hokage then his younger brother told him to shut up.

"Look… I'm not a maniac… It's just… I… well… I enjoy training… that's all… But if you think I'm a maniac… then you can have a hotel room… I don't mind… I will pay for your room…" he said hunched over.

The psychologist didn't know what to make out of this situation. Yuma-san was acting so strange again. From overly happy to depressed in a second… Well, his life must have been really bad. Well, he was going to help him. And sharing a home was the first step of helping him.

So, what to do now to get him in a better mood again. Option No 1) Praise him.

"Come on. I didn't mean it that way. In truth, I'm impressed with you." Kai said smiling.

"You're lying, Kai-kun." he exclaimed. "You wouldn't have said maniac… if you think my training is impressive."

Alright, Option No 2) Try to get him distracted.

"How about we go to your home?" Kai suggested. "I mean, I want to see it, after all."

"Okay!"

Yuma-san grabbed him by his wrist again and started running. Kai was forced to run with him while loudly protesting. Why was this happening again? If this continued then…

He was drenched in sweat then they finally reached Yuma-san's home. Not only that he was panting like crazy. Oh well, it was a nice training… Even though it was a terrible one. He so much longed for a bath now. But at least Yuma-san was in good mode again. He was grinning from ear to ear then he got his keys… He opened the door and got into his apartment.

"I'm back!" he shouted into the empty apartment.

"Welcome home, Yuma-kun." another elderly sounding voice answered him. "How was your mission?"

An old man emerged from one of the rooms. He was bent over and supported himself on a cane. Everything seemed old on him. From his face to his posture… Even his hair had lost most of his original color turning into white already. Wait… was that?

"I thought your grandfather died, Yuma-san!" Kai exclaimed shocked while turning towards the Konoha shinobi.

"I've never said he did. He's still alive as you can see, Kai-kun." Yuma-san replied grinning.

"Then why did you make this implication to begin with?!" he wanted to know angered.

"Well… It's not my problem that you read me wrong. Jeez, what kind of a psychologist are you?" he questioned him shrugging his shoulders. "Anyway, this is my Ojiisan. Ojiisan, this is Kai-kun… err… what was your family name again?"

"Fuma." he answered with a straight-face.

"Right! Fuma Kai! And this is my Ojiisan!"

"You already said that, Yuma-san."

At that Yuma-san's grandfather chuckled. Kai looked at him with a raised eyebrow. But that didn't stop him from chuckling.

"It appears Yuma-kun really likes you, Kai-san. I'm happy that he finally has found a friend." the elderly man exclaimed smiling. "But where are my manners? How about we come to the living room? It appears that you aren't from Konoha if my eye isn't deceiving me."

"Eye? Not plural?" the psychologist questioned him.

"I lost one of my eyes during the Second Shinobi World War. But that's another story. You can put your luggage in the entrance area first. We'll find a good place for it later."

Yuma-san's grandfather walked back to the room he came from. Upon Yuma-san's nod, Kai followed him and entered a living room. The first thing he saw was a dark brown, wooden table at the center of the room. Next to were several sitting pillows. On one of them Yuma-san's grandfather was sitting there and drinking tea.

Looking to the right side he saw a shelf which was divided in three parts. The right side of it had a scroll with the letters will of fire on it. The other two parts of the shelf had two low boards shelfs. Atop of the middle shelf sat an expensive looking plate and a bonsai. Atop of the left shelf was another shelf with different types of dinner plates, bowls and other stuff required for eating meals.

Next, Kai looked behind the table to see a set of three, hell brown shoji. They were probably leading to the kitchen area. Looking to the left side of the room, he saw a round window. Only now did the psychologist noticed that the floor had tatami carpets.

If Kai didn't know it better, he was transported back in time to the earlier days of the Five Great Villages. This room looked so old-fashioned. It was probably because of Yuma's grandfather who seemed to appear relatively old. He was probably as old as the Sandaime was, if he had been still alive. But to his surprise, the psychologist actually liked the design of this room. It had something traditional.

"Yuma-kun, would you please offer Kai-san some tea?" Yuma-san's grandfather asked. "I have still some left then I brewed it."

"It depends if he likes Genmaicha tea." Yuma-san teased.

"I do." Kai confirmed.

"Alright. One Genmaicha tea comes soon." the Konoha shinobi replied smiling and got a cup from the shelf before he pushed the shoji aside.

He entered the room and disappeared into it. Meanwhile Kai sat down opposite to Yuma-san's grandfather und pulled his legs under him. He didn't know what the customs of their clan there… and he assumed that Yuma-san's grandfather was also a member of their clan. That was why Kai placed his hands on his upper legs and looked at the table.

"How do you like the living room, Kai-san?" the elderly man asked him taking another sip from his cup.

"I like it. It's very traditional." he replied truthfully.

"Thank you. I decided to decorate the room this way. I hoped that Yuma-kun might remember some things from his past."

"I've heard that he'd lost his memories. But that aside… Are you? Well… Are you a-"

"Tea is ready!" Yuma-san interrupted him and walked with a tablet into the room again.

He put the tablet onto the table and sat down on the pillow as well taking his seat next to Kai. From the corner of his eyes, the psychologist saw how the Konoha shinobi bowed slightly before taking a cup for himself.

"I'm sorry for being so rude to you, Uchiha-sama." Kai immediately apologized.

And he also noticed that he said to Yuma-san's grandfather Uchiha causing said member of the clan to glare at him threateningly. The psychologist wanted to disappear in a hole and never ever come out again. He buried his face into his palms and groaned in embarrassment. This day had now the potential to be the worst day in his life. If he was going to embarrass himself any further, this day would turn into a complete mess.

"I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to! I mean… I just wanted to pay respect for the elders and-"

"Kai-san." Yuma's grandfather said calmly.

"And I just say to you Uchiha because I know Yuma-san is also from the Uchiha clan."

"Kai-san."

"I'm so sorry. I won't repeat the mistake again!"

"Kai-san!" the elderly man yelled at him.

"Y-yes?"

"Stop with it. Nothing happened. I'm just surprised Yuma-kun told you that we are Uchihas. I drilled actually into Yuma-kun to never tell anyone about it. And to be precise, I wasn't even glaring at you. I glared at Yuma-kun for his mistake." he explained. "But, also? Do you know other members of our clan except for Uchiha Sasuke?"

"I know that I'm an Uchiha." Kai said. "But I was adopted."

"Odd… Why would our clan decide to… unless Danzo has something to do with it. Anyway… I digress. We will maybe find out something about you, Kai. But first and fore most… I should introduce myself as well. My name is Tsuki Kiyoshi… It's a pleasure to meet you, Kai."

"The pleasure is all mine, Kiyoshi-sama."

"Drop the sama, Kai-san. I'm neither your sama nor I'm that old. You can call me Kiyoshi-san." Kiyoshi-san chided him light-heartedly.

"To tell you the truth…" Yuma-san whispered in his ear while covering his mouth with a hand. "He's just as old as the Sandaime if he was still alive."

"Thought as much." Kai replied smirking.

The eyes of the Konoha shinobi widened before he grinned.

"Alright, it's decided! Head nut!" Yuma-san shouted putting Kai under his arm and gave him a rub on his head with his fist.

"Let me go, Yuma-san!" the psychologist protested.

He only laughed not wanting to let him go so easily. From the corner of his eyes, Kai saw how Kiyoshi-san was smiling. He greatly enjoyed this scene.

"Ah… This reminds me of my old friend. We often joked around like that." the old man said.

"Well, you would now say like Ojiisan like Omagosan, right?" Yuma-san assumed grinning.

"Yes, I wanted to say that."

Kai thought that they were truly grandfather and grandchild. If it wasn't for the age difference he would have actually said that they were father and son.

Author's note: I think Zelos' serious theme from Tales of Symphonia is most fitting for Kiyoshi. The theme is rather laid down and calm and has a certain air of seriousness but also sadness. Fitting considering Kiyoshi's age and how much he had already seen. First I actually considered using Regal's theme from the same game… However, his theme sounds too serious.
