Blake yanked his hands away from the terminals keyboard and backed up to just opposite of the sentry bot. He shut his eyes braced for impact of bullets or bombs but none came, opening one eye he took notice of the dust covering the bots frame, and the telltale red light that was not on. The bot was deactivated, nonfunctioning, Blake breathed a sigh of relief and recomposed himself before looking around, the hallway ended here, the other rooms led nowhere else and the door was undisturbed.
With a little huff Blake retraced his steps and re entered the reception area. Addison was still caring for Kyle and Muna, she glanced in his direction when he entered, but said nothing before going back to her silent Vigil. Blake frowned at that, but kept silent as well, he crossed the room to the East wing door, he noted the disturbance of the dust on the handle and confidently threw open the door.
Another hallway, four rooms on one side and three on the other, at the end a door leading to the stairwell with a green sign stating 'roof access' bolted and faded onto the door. Knowing that he was soon to finish this little duty Blake moved down the hall with a quick pace, briefly glancing into open rooms or at doors to make sure they were empty. Although he found himself distracted by this, he registered the whirring sound just as the first laser shot past his ear, the heat singing the hair on the side of his head and forcing him to duck into an unchecked room.
Upon entering the room Blake tripped over an overturned desk and landed on the other side on his back. He sighed and looked up into the black voids of a skeletons eyes, he shouted in surprise and whacked the skull with his robotic arm, the force shattering its lower jaw and sending the skull into the ceiling where it further cracked and rained bits of bone and ceiling down on him.
Blake sputtered and sat up coughing and spitting to try and get any bits of bone out of his mouth. He groaned at his misfortune and looked around the room, from the disheveled decorations littering the place he figured it was a manager's office of some sort. He unholstered his revolver and checked the bullets before shutting the cylinder, standing and taking up a spot by the door.
He could hear the laser turret beeping and clicking from the ceiling in front of the stairwell door. He listened to the noises and clicked the hammer back on his gun and waited, when the sound of the sentry closing drifted from the hall Blake left his cover and took aim, firing and obliterating the chassis of the turret and disabling it with two shots. When he was satisfied that the turret was out of commission he continued on, pushing the door and entering into the stairwell. Luckily he found the stairwells to be intact enough for him to reach up to the upper floors. The dust was thick enough that there were visible footprints leading up to the floor just under the roof access
He stood next to the door and prepared himself for what may come at him from the other side, either more robots, turrets, or something worse. With one hand holding his revolver aloft and the other on the door he pushed into the room. He found himself in yet another cubicle space. But the cubicles and related furniture had been moved to block every other door except the one he had entered through. He scanned the various rubble piles until a clattering to his left alerted him, his revolver snapped to aim in that direction and he found the missing party member who he recognised as Anton hiding behind a thick steel safe piled onto one of the rubble piles. He took one hand off his weapon and held it up as an indication he was friendly before he jammed the gun into its holster
"Been looking for you."
Blake said he kept his distance as Anton came out from hiding. He looked between Blake and the safe before sighing
"I was trying to get it open, uh, no luck."
Blake nodded and started to offer to try and crack it but Anton quickly cut him off as he approached the soldier
"We should get back to the others yea? I'm sure that's why you're here."
Blake frowned slightly at Antons insistence but nodded anyway before motioning to the door
"Let's go then. Last I saw you, myself and Addison are the only ones not passed out."
Anton didn't reply, instead he only retraced his steps back down to the first floor, remarking as he entered the hallway
"You are a pretty good shot."
Before continuing on to the door to the reception area, of which he hesitated to do.
"It wont bite."
Blake coaxed and Anton finally opened the door and entered, Blake followed him through in time to witness the scene beyond, Kyle was awake now, and he was sharing a cold look with Anton.
Blakes attention was pulled to Addison as she shouted
"Please, get a hold of yourself!"
Before delivering a harsh slap to Munas face. He noticed that the mute girl was crying and half awake. He also saw her hug and hold onto Addison for a bit. Blake had to turn away and turn his attention to the other two members to make sure they weren't killing each other. He felt some sort of tightness in his chest as he got Kyle and Anton to stop glaring at each other and gear up.
He checked his bag again to make sure nothing was lost before he reloaded the spent rounds in both his rifle and revolver. He felt his Prosthetic arm beginning to slow again, but it wasn't the right time. They were about to leave and fixing his arm would take too much time. He sighed and looked up to catch Muna giving Addison another hug. He felt angry seeing this, he bit his tongue and walked out of the front doors and waited outside. He had told himself he didnt think of Addison that way but he couldn't deny that he felt jealousy burning in his chest. He rubbed his face with one hand and sighed, this trip was going to be longer than he thought.
