Chapter 13
A long trail of oars floats in the water leading up to the ship few and far apart trying to keep the pirates from coming after them quickly.
Elizabeth shakily climbs aboard. "Not more pirates." She said with a groan not liking the idea of dealing with more pirates.
"You're safe here Elizabeth," Rose said, looking at her sister as she climbed up the ladder to get onto the ship.
"Welcome aboard, Miss Elizabeth," Gibbs said, smiling at her.
"Mr. Gibbs?" Elizabeth questioned her brows furrowed in confusion.
Rose and then Will climbed aboard.
"Hey, boy - where be Jack?" Gibbs questioned looking at Will.
Elizabeth blinked a few times. "Jack? Jack Sparrow?" She said turning to face Will and Rose.
"He fell behind," Will said before moving away from Gibbs.
Gibbs reacted in shock for a moment before going right to work. "Keep to the Code."
"Weigh anchor and hoist the sails! Split-quick, you dibbis!" AnaMaria ordered the crew.
Rose swallowed the lump in her throat as she slowly moved away wrapping her arms around herself. She slowly went to Will and let out a soft breath. "Are you certain that you wanted to leave him behind?" She questioned softly wondering if they were doing the right thing.
"You saw how he looked at the Pearl, Rose… he lied to us about many things…" Will said, looking at Rose out of the corner of his eyes.
Rose took a soft breath and slowly nodded her head knowing that was very true. She slowly put her hand on his shoulder and squeezed it lightly. She slowly began to walk away from him, taking a breath.

Rose laid on the bed, her arm up over her face, covering it some. She took a soft breath shifting some on the bed and turning her back to the door. She didn't want to see Will and Elizabeth being almost like a couple. At least that was what she had thought. She could feel the tension between the two of them and she hated it.
Elizabeth tried to tie a bandage around the cut in her right palm with a little bit of irritation when she couldn't get the bandage to behave.
Will watched her seeing the frustration on her face.
"What sort of a man trades a man's life for a ship?" Elizabeth questioned as she tried to tie her bandage around her hand.
Will shrugged his shoulders. "Pirate." He let out a breath and came over to her. "Here ... let me." He said moving forward to help her with the bandage.
Elizabeth moved her hand away to allow him to take over the task. "Thank you."
He began to gently wrap her hand. "You said - you gave Barbossa my name as yours. Why?"
She gazed up into his eyes levelly, but couldn't quite bring herself to say what she was thinking. "I don't know."
They hold their gaze, a slight smile begins to play on Will's lips matched by Elizabeth's.
Elizabeth winced suddenly and pulled her hand back.
"I'm sorry - blacksmith's hands. I know, they're rough …"
"No... I mean, yes. They are. But -" She considered for a moment before smiling to herself. Anything that she would say would reveal the truth. "But don't stop."
They locked eyes once again.
Will tied off the bandage but didn't drop her hand. He ran his palm up her forearm before slowly touching her face. He slowly moved towards her. "Elizabeth …"
Rose shifted, taking a soft breath before slowly getting up to her feet leaving Elizabeth and Will alone in the cabin. She almost ran into Mr. Gibbs. "Oh, Mr. Gibbs. Sorry." She said softly, her cheeks flushing in embarrassment knowing that it wasn't proper for a lady to run into a man and not apologize for what happened. She knew that this was all types of wrong running into him.
Gibbs let out a soft laugh. "Miss Rose, it's fine." He said touching her shoulder lightly, giving it a soft squeeze. "I have to admit I didn't think that I would ever see yer at Tortuga ever in my life." He admitted the truth. He was still rather surprised that this young woman would travel all this way when she felt terrible being onboard ships.
Rose looked down shyly as she walked with Gibbs. "I know that it wasn't right for a lady, a proper lady, to be in such a place." She admitted softly, taking a soft breath.
"But you showed up with Jack. All to save your sister. I have to admit you've grown into a beautiful young woman, yer mother and father would be proud of yer doing this." Gibbs said softly, putting his hand on her shoulder and squeezing it lightly.
Rose took a soft breath looking up at him. "I never thought I'd see you again. You had disappeared from Port Royal…" Her brows furrowed together in concern wondering why Gibbs had disappeared from Port Royal all those years ago.
Gibbs nodded his head. "Aye…" He was rather surprised that she was concerned when he disappeared from Port Royal. But he didn't think that the young woman would remember him.
Rose turned her head seeing her sister emerge onto the deck as the crewmen worked fast and focused on everything that they were ordered to do.
"Hands aloft to loose ta'gallants! With this wind dead astern, she'll carry every sail we've got!" AnaMaria barked out orders knowing that they didn't need to be caught.
Elizabeth hurried to the astern with Rose on her heels coming up to where AnaMaria was at the wheel. "What's happening?" Her eyes widened when she saw the Black Pearl on the horizon.
"The Black Pearl, she's gaining on us," AnaMaria said as she steered, looking over at Elizabeth sharply with narrowed eyes.
"But this is the fastest ship in the Caribbean!" Elizabeth shouted in protest.
Rose shook her head lightly knowing that the Pearl could be faster than the Interceptor could ever be.
"You can tell them that after they've caught us."
Elizabeth went silent for a moment.
Rose looked over seeing Gibbs join them up on the deck.
"We're shallower on the draft, right?" Elizabeth questioned looking at AnaMaria.
"Aye," AnaMaria said, rather surprised.
Rose looked at her sister, her brows furrowed.
"Well, then can't we lose them amongst those shoals?"
"We don't have to outrun 'em long, just long enough …" Gibbs said thinking.
"Lighten the ship! Stem to stern!" AnaMaria ordered.
"Anything we can afford to lose, see That it's lost!"
Rose swallowed the lump in her throat as she looked at Elizabeth. "This is the craziest thing that you've ever done."
Elizabeth let out a soft chuckle shaking her head lightly. "You're just about as crazy coming after me Rosie." She said using a childhood nickname.
Rose let out a soft laugh before covering her mouth with her hand as her laughing got a little bit more. She looked up at Elizabeth once she had finished laughing. "Sometimes I wonder what mother would do with you." She mused softly.
Elizabeth looked down knowing that Rose was sore when it came to their mother. Perhaps it was the life-or-death situation that didn't bother her in the least bit. She knew that Rose would try her best to protect her no matter what the cost would be.
Rose moved quickly to help them unload the Interceptor in hopes that it would ease everything and make it easier for them to sail away from the Black Pearl.
Will emerged from the forward compartment, drawn to the commotion. He saw the crew dumping stuff overboard, the Black Pearl in pursuit of them. He climbed out on the rigging for a better look.
Rose looked up at Will wondering what he was doing as she dumped something else over the edge of the Interceptor.
Will quickly came down and stopped Marty and another crewman from dumping another cannon into the water.
"Will… what are you doing?" Rose questioned softly.
"We're going to need that," Will said pointing astern.
Rose quickly moved back to the deck panting softly. She saw Elizabeth look stricken in fear as the ship continued to pursue them. She moved towards her sister and put her hand in hers.
Elizabeth's hand gripped Rose's hand tightly.
Rose looked back, seeing the ship continue to get closer and closer. She knew what this meant. They were out of luck and out of time. The Pearl would be upon them and there would be nothing that they could do about it.
"It was a good plan, up 'til now," AnaMaria said as she continued to steer.
Will made his way to the wheel. "Gibbs! We have to make a stand. We must fight!" He looked around seeing no one moving. "Load the guns!"
"With what?"
Will then realized the cannonballs were among the first things that they had thrown overboard. "Anything. Everything! Anything we have left."
Gibbs moved to the order. "Load the guns! Case shot and langrage! Nails and crushed glass! With a will!"
Rose looked at Will with wide eyes. "Are you certain that everything that will be fired will work?" She questioned as she felt Elizabeth's hand grip tighter to her own. Her heart rammed in her chest. She could only hope that Will would be right on this.
"No, but it will give us a fighting chance."
Rose swallowed the lump and nodded her head knowing that he was just trying his best to give them a fighting chance to get the heck out of dodge. She only hoped they could get away from Barbossa and the Pearl.
Gibbs then suddenly joined Will, AnaMaria, and Rose. "The Pearl's going to luff up on our port
quarter! She'll rake us, without ever presenting a target!"
Elizabeth blinked a few times seeing the problem. She looked up towards the bow of the Interceptor and got a bright idea. "Lower the anchor on the right side. On the starboard side!"
AnaMaria, Will, and Gibbs looked at her in dismay.
Rose thought for a moment. "It's a good idea," Rose said, thinking softly, pondering the idea more. It was the only thing that they could use at that moment. They didn't really have much of a choice in what they would be doing. They needed to try to survive and get back home.
Elizabeth looked to Will for support.
Will let out a breath thinking what the hell. "It certainly has the element of surprise."
AnaMaria looked at the three of them. "You're daft, lady! The three of you are!"
"Daft like Jack! LOWER THE STARBOARD ANCHOR!" Gibbs yelled as he got the same look Elizabeth had gotten only moments earlier. "Do it, you gobs! Or it's you we'll load into the cannons!"
Rose let out a soft chuckle and shook her head lightly. She knew that this task wasn't going to be the easiest thing for them to do.
Elizabeth looked over at AnaMaria. "Let go!"
AnaMaria released the wheel just as it started to spin with a vengeance.
The Interceptor, bow low in the water, came around very quickly, forward anchor acting like a pivot, her cannons coming round to bear right on the Black Pearl.
"Now!" Will yelled.
"Fire all!" Elizabeth shouted.
The two ships fired all the guns at once, but the Interceptor took far more damage than the Pearl did which caused Rose to swallow a lump in fear.
Elizabeth, Will, Rose, AnaMaria, Gibbs, and the rest of the crew used the gunwales as cover from the pirates' small arms fire.
"We could use a few more ideas, lass!" Gibbs hollered at Elizabeth.
"Your turn!" Elizabeth shouted as she ducked.
"We need us a devil's dowry!"
AnaMaria suddenly grabbed Elizabeth by the hair. "We'll give 'im her!"
"AnaMaria let my sister go," Rose said, moving forward, her eyes narrowed at the woman. "I am not losing her again to those filthy pirates of the Pearl." Her lip curled in anger. She wasn't about to allow AnaMaria to do any sort of harm to her sister.
"She's not what they're after!" Will said, looking at Elizabeth.
Elizabeth's hand went to the medallion that was around her neck, but it wasn't there this time. Her eyes widened. "The medallion!"
Will sprinted towards the forward hatch and dropped inside.
Rose swallowed the lump in her throat knowing that this was rather dangerous what Will was. Rose let out a gasp as the mast suddenly crashed onto the Black Pearl. Her eyes widened in horror as she saw the pirates swarm across to them. This wasn't going to end well. She quickly grasped the sword that was at her side knowing that she was going to have to use it.
Gibbs faced a pirate bearing down on him.
Jack took him out as he swung through and then swung back, backward, and dropped to the deck.
"Jack!"
Jack handed the empty flask to Gibbs. "Bloody empty!" Jack was on the move again.
Gibbs was surprised and then rejoined the battle.
Rose ducked as a pirate tried to attack her and her leg kicked out knocking the pirate down onto his back. Her eyes went wide and blinked in confusion. She hadn't expected to knock a pirate down that easily since he was bigger and stronger than her. She pulled her sword out clinking it against the pirate's sword as he quickly got up to his feet.
A pirate was about to strike Elizabeth when his arm suddenly stopped. He turned to see Jack holding onto his arm.
"That's not very nice!"
Elizabeth struck the pirate with the butt of her musket, sending him overboard.
Jack grabbed Elizabeth by the shoulders. "Where's the medallion?"
"Wretch!" She yelled swinging to slap him only to have Jack catch her wrist to keep her from pulling back.
Jack's eyes flicked down to the bandage on her hand, then his eyes went back to her, he knew immediately why she was angry. "Ah! Where's dear William?"
Elizabeth's eyes went wide when she realized that he hadn't returned. Her eyes quickly scanned the deck. She saw that the forward hatch is locked shut by the fallen mast. Elizabeth darted towards it.
"Elizabeth!" Rose yelled as she hit one of the pirates with the sharp end of her sword sending him to the ground.
"Will!"
"Elizabeth!"
Jack almost followed her but saw the Monkey race past with the Medallion. He began to give chase to retrieve the Medallion.
Elizabeth peered through the hatch.
Rose moved quickly towards where Elizabeth was.
"I can't move it!"
Elizabeth and Rose were suddenly grabbed by four pirates and lifted off their feet.
Rose kicked her feet out trying to get loose of the pirate, but there was no way for her to even hit him with her feet as she felt his hold tightening on her.
"Will!"
Will looked up seeing Rose and Elizabeth get grabbed. "Elizabeth! Rose!"

Jack's crew was tied up to the mast by Ragetti.
Pintel eyed the crew with his pistol drawn. "Any of you so much as thinks the word 'Parley' I'll have your guts for garters."
Barbossa held onto the medallion in his hand. He looked off into the distance of the Interceptor.
Suddenly a huge bang rang out as the Interceptor exploded.
Rose's eyes went wide in fear, turning her head sharply to where the Interceptor once was. Her heart pounded in her chest a sinking feeling deep inside of her knowing that Will was most likely dead.
