They rolled in at the Country Motel shortly before eight. The trip across several logging trails and washed-out roads had taken longer than expected. Steve was grateful to finally put the Galaxy in park as he followed his partner into the drawn-out, tired-looking building.

Darkness was quickly settling, and he hoped that there was still a chance to find some food around here.

By the time he reached the front desk, Mike already had the keys in hand, a weary smile on his face.

"We get to buddy up tonight. They almost sold out only have one room with two queen beds available.", he announced with an apologetic smile and headed down the east corridor.

Severely doubting that his partner's snoring would be enough to keep him awake after a day like today; Steve nodded stoically and followed him down the hall. Taking in the bland decorations mixed in with photographs of the olden days, he wondered just how few people lived out this way.

And even more importantly, why were there enough to fill up the motel? The oparking lot out front had been mostly empty.

Upon finding the room, Mike allowed him to choose which bed to sleep on, before dropping his own bag down. Steve was both, grateful and surprised to find a set of warm comforters waiting for them.

"They say this is the only place to stay around here.", Mike mentioned with a hint of worry in his voice, "We'll start asking some questions tomorrow. I find it hard to believe that Glenn would have stayed undetected in this small town."

Nodding in agreement, Steve rubbed his tired eyes.

"If Sheriff Dawson was right, the farm should be another five miles outside of here."

Mike sat down at the edge of the bed, his busy mind still working overtime.

"I wonder how it is that this town doesn't have a name. it's not like these people are nomads. So who put together a logging settlement of twenty some houses, a small grocery store, butcher shop and even a motel…and there's no name to it. We are literally out in the middle of nowhere."

Steve stripped out of his dress coat and tie, before grinning and stretching his sore lower back.

"Well, you see, the three most important institutions of the civilized and morally developed world are missing around here. They lack a school, a post office…and a church."
