Where Did You Sleep Last Night?

Disclaimer: I own no characters. The lyrics aren't mine, they're the property of who-ever controls the Leadbelly estate and who-ever controls the Cobain estate. (Courtney Love I think, the satan spawned bitch) The version used for this story is the version Kurt covered on the MTV unplugged show. This is my first Labrynith fic, so please don't flame.

My girl, my girl

Don't lie to me

Tell me where did you sleep last night?

In the pines, in the pines

Where the sun don't ever shine?

I would shiver the whole night through

Jareth sighed and stretched his long legs. He couldn't seem to forget her. To let her go. Sarah had defeated him--had managed to get through the Labrynith, but she had done more than that....

"She..was different..." He mused to himself aloud. Smiled at the memory of their "dance" at the ball.

Where is she? he wondered. It had been a long time since she had left the Goblin City, several years at least. Was she still the same? Or had cold reality changed her?

Jareth rose from his throne. Picking up a small, glowing ball he strode onto his balcony. He stared into it and watched as the glow grew brighter. A moment later, he saw what he was after. Sarah.

She was alone. Standing against a wall, looking cold and tired. Jareth felt a strange rush of pain at the sight of her. 'She seems so helpless now..' he thought.

"If I were to contact her--to ask her how she was, she would lie to me" he whispered. "She wouldn't let me help her..."

He watched as he turned and walked into the building behind her. He sat with the ball for hours, drinking in the sight of the Sarah. The love he had had within his grasp, and which had slipped through his fingers.

My girl, my girl

Where will you go?

I'm goin where the cold wind blows

In the pines, in the pines,

Where the sun don't ever shine

I would shiver the whole night through.

O.k. please tell me what you think! I know I left out the part about the "her husband was a ....." but I wasn't sure how to fit it into the story. Is it any good, bad, horrible? Tell me! I've got another Labrynith story coming up soon. Another Jareth/Sarah.
