Chapter 9 Kat Returns. Sorry it took long for this.

Spike extends his hand out to her and reaches for it. Her eyes are wider than usual as she stares up at Spike. Xander helps Dawn up and she hugs him. Dawn sees Spike and everyone else watch the two, Buffy and Spike, spellbound by each other's presence.

"When did you..." says Buffy unable to get a full sentence out.

"It's a long story luv," says Spike.

"Spike came to us a couple days ago," says Angel entering the hut. Buffy and Spike look at him. "Then this apocalypse came up and he didn't have chance to give you a call." Spike becomes surprised that Angel would cover for him. Buffy quickly hugs Spike real tight.

"I don't care about that," says Buffy. "The important thing is that you're back."

"See no with the dusting," says Kat. Spike gives her a smile.

"Too bad," says Tammy with a smirk. Spike glares at her.

"Alright now we need to find out some information about this apocalypse that has started," says Giles.

"I agree, but where do we start?" ask Wesley.

"The library is our best bet," says Xander leading them out of Cassandra's hut. "Thanks Cassandra."

"Anything for you Xander," says Cassandra winking at him. Kat sees this and quickly pushes Xander out of the hut. Xander leads everyone down a dirt road and reach a big building.

"All our books live here," says Xander as he enters the library. "It's not a huge collection but it's something."

"It's a start," says Wesley. "Lets get researching."

Everyone started to search for books on prophecies of this apocalypse. Kat and Tammy head over to one of the stacks and hide behind it and pretend to search for books.

"Dude I've been thinking," says Tammy.

"Did that hurt?" says Kat as she searches for books.

"Very funny," says Tammy. "Kat we need to get out of here. We so don't belong here and you know Joss. He'll probably kill us off."

"No he won't," says Kat. "We control what we do not him."

"You can say that, but I know you're probably going to be the one to get killed anyway," says Tammy.

"How would you know that?" ask Kat.

"Cause you and Xander," says Tammy.

"What about me and Xander?"

"Cause you're happy with each other and you know Joss," says Tammy. "Happy bad."

"Tammy nothing is going to happen to us as long as we're careful," says Kat.

"This is all confusing."

"Let's just focus on what we gotta do."

"Right!" Tammy leaves Kat.

"Where are you going?" ask Kat watching her walk out from behind the stacks.

"Going to miss around with Spike," says Tammy with a smirk turning to Kat.

"I wouldn't that if I were you," says Kat. "Buffy will kick your ass."

"I can take her," says Tammy with attitude. "I'm taller."

"Who can you take?" ask Buffy from behind Tammy. Tammy jumps a little.

"Nobody. Bye," says Tammy walking away. Kat laughs and so does Buffy.

"She was kidding," says Kat. "If she were as strong as you were then we wouldn't have brought you here."

"I know," says Buffy. "This might sound strange, but I wanted to know what was it like being me?" "It was great!" says Kat. "Having all that power, the responsibility, and the loneliness."

"Thought you said it was great."

Yeah, maybe the power part." Kat turns to Buffy. "I don't know how I was able to fill in your shoes last time. This may sound personal, but did you ever love Xander at all?"

Buffy sighs and walks over to Kat.

"A lot of the times when I was feeling bombarded by everything I just wish I had someone like Xander. My heart regrets giving him a chance, but I never really loved him the way he wanted me to. I didn't love him like I loved Angel."

"And Spike," says Kat with a smile. Buffy looks at Kat then bows her head looks back at her.

"Spike too," says Buffy.

"I understand that," says Kat. "I'm sure he does too."

"I hope so," says Buffy. "I hope that you can give him the love that Willow and I never gave him." Kat smiles.

"I think I can do that," Kat replies. The two girls return to the center of the room where piles of books surrounded Wesley, Giles, and Fred who sat down trying to decipher the readings.

"Oh, I think I've found it!" Wesley and Giles lifted their heads from their books and rush over to Fred. Everyone else surrounds the table. "My, this is very old prophecy." Fred looks up at everyone then reads what the book says.

"It says that three phases will occur before the one of mortal flesh will arise."

"Three phases?" says Giles.

"Oh, the earthquakes gotta be one," says Xander.

"The blotting of the sun is two," says Spike.

"What's the third one?" ask Buffy walking over to Spike's side. Spike looks at her.

"The third must be death," says Giles as he reads the book over Fred's shoulder.

"The plaque," says both Xander and Kat. They both look at each other and smile.

"Perhaps. This one of mortal flesh when risen shall need to gain the power of a human's pure soul," says Giles as he looks up and takes off his glasses. "Making it flawless and unstoppable."

"It's not getting my pretty little soul," says Spike putting his hand on his chest. Buffy looks at him and nods her head.

"Yeah, like you're soul is so pure," says Tammy. "Someone with a pure soul. Maybe it's Buffy," says Angel turning to Giles.

"Or Fred," says Wesley.

"Why would I be part of some ancient prophecy?" says Fred.

"No," says Giles. Everyone looks at Giles as he puts his glasses back on. "The prophecy specifically says that the pure soul comes from someone outside of this world."

"Gee where is Superman when you really need him," says Buffy.

Then they all look at Tammy and Kat.

"It can't be me," says Tammy with a smirk. "I'm evil." Kat rolls her eyes at her friend.

"Yeah, finally one thing we agree on," says Spike.

"It's Kat," says Xander out of the blue. Kat turns to him. "It can't be." Xander grabs her hand.

"She's..." Xander looks into her deep brown eyes.

"I'm afraid it must be true Xander," says Giles.

"I guess I came here for a reason," says Kat as she touches Xander's face. "And it's not to die." Kat hold Xander's hand tighter and looks into his hazel eyes.

"Hey, what about what Cordy said? Humans created this mortal flesh. What's that all about?" ask Buffy.

"You're right Buffy," says Giles. "Man created this being many years ago. It was created with good intentions" Giles turns the page of the book. "The being was too great for the humans to control."

"Sorcerers and Wicca's join forces with humans to open a portal that will trap this being in between alternate universes." Giles looks at Kat and Tammy. "When you two came from your alternate universe somehow it escaped into our world."

"Are you trying to say that because we were brought here this big bad escaped and is going to take over the world?" Tammy puts her hand over her chest.

"Tammy it wasn't your fault," says Kat going over to her. "You didn't cast the spell."

"Yeah, but I did," says Willow. Kennedy puts her hand on her shoulder. "I'm really sorry."

"Willow don't blame yourself," says Buffy. "We have no time to blame anybody."

"We need to banish this being back to whence it came," says Kat. "It's been done before. We can do it again."

"It's not that simple," says Giles taking off his glasses and looking toward Kat.

"How did I know he was going to say that," says Tammy.

"This thing is a mortal flesh," says Kat walking towards the middle of the room. "That means we can hurt it with weapons. We fight it and Willow, Wesley, Fred and Giles will try to open the portal so we trap it inside." "That sounds like a great idea," says Buffy patting her on the shoulder.

"Thank you," replies Kat.
