A quick foreword, this is a rewrite of "Plan E" by calborghete. Reading the story, I really enjoyed the universe and the different take on the rebuild series. I have been wanting to write stuff for Eva for a while, but frankly can't come up with much in terms of creativity, so I asked for his permission and am using his story to make up for it. I'm not sure what I'll do with this, and whether or not I'll stick to the original storyline, or change it. This will still follow the main prefaces of certain changes, like the characters aging, and SEELE still hanging around. But I am getting this first chapter, or "bit" out mainly to at least have a starting point to hopefully springboard off of. Don't expect this to be quality, this is my first writing that I've ever bothered to try and put out to the public. Updates will likely be infrequent and very, very sporadic, thanks to my extremely busy schedule. I won't abandon this, even if I take months in between postings, however, if for some reason I do, I will update it as such. Thanks, and enjoy the trainwreck.

Gendo Ikari was an intelligent man. While not as scientifically inclined as his long deceased wife, he had matched her in wit. While Yui could solve the most complex equations and programs without even breaking a sweat, Gendo struggled. While a genius in his own right, Yui was by far in her own league of intelligence. However, Gendo still had his own skill. People. While many hearing that would scoff at that insinuation, seeing as the majority of interactions his peers, and eventually subordinates had with him tended to rarely exceed that of 20 words, he knew people. Sure, while he was far from charismatic, he knew how people thought. He had learned, especially in his rebellious teenage years, that manipulating people came surprisingly naturally to him. The ability to make people do what he wanted became a useful skill. Struggling with anatomy work? Use the image he had caught of the supposedly "good" trust fund kid sneaking a joint under the school bleachers to blackmail him into doing it for him. He knew what made people tick, and knew how to exploit it to its full potential. Perhaps that is why, within 3 weeks of setting his eyes on Yui Ikari, he had woken up in a bed that was not his, a warm body asleep with him, the smell of sex in the air. A small part of him worried that to her, this was a one time fling, but his doubts were settled when the event repeated itself again, and again, almost every other week. 3 years later, the changing of his last name from "Rokubungi" to "Ikari" on the marriage paperwork truly settled any lasting doubts about her feelings. Many of his older habits had gone away with her, the manipulation, the antisocial behaviors, the poker face he had made second nature in his teen years, courtesy of his less than stellar parents. The part of him that naturally planned for the worst, the part that wanted to always be two steps ahead of everybody, began to vanish with her. He had found a light in his life. A woman that truly made him feel complete.

It was a shame that didn't last.

With the absorption and loss of his wife, he relapsed. Brevity became standard, manipulation always expected. Almost nobody within NERV had ever seen the man smile, not even a twitching of the lips. With his plan to manipulate his benefactors' plan of turning humanity into a collective gestalt of consciousness to reunite his wife, he had no time for emotions or love. He could have that once he was finished. So, he continued with his scheming. Recruiting naive graduates and emotionally stunted scientists made it easy to make sure nobody figured out what was going on. Even when his son had finally been recruited, he stayed away. He did not care to help or comfort the boy during his life or death fights, that would only interfere with his goal. He needed him under his control. He needed everybody under his control.

Which is why, in this moment, the elder Ikari was confused as to how he not only was completely lacking control, but also terrified. A guttural scream of rage roared down the long hallways of the now abandoned NERV base. He quickly ducked inside his office, the heavy metal door sliding shut. That had shut away his attacker for the time being. Shuffling towards his desk, he hastened his pace as a familiar ship began to come into view through the windows, getting closer to the base every second. He began to open up the drawers, becoming frantic as a familiar ship became visible through the windows.

"Where is it? Where?" Panic began to overtake his senses as he realized the 9mm handgun he typically had near him was nowhere to be found. Before he could begin to even think of something to help himself, a deafening explosion ripped through the air, a slam following soon after. The 250lb panel of steel that had been the only barrier between him and a man hellbent on his death lay on the floor, the two holes in it indicative of the breaching charges used. Bringing his eyes up to the doorway, he couldn't stop himself from shrinking back in reflex, a byproduct of an emotion he had never felt until now. Sheer terror. Looking at his likely soon to be killer, he began to speak.

"You don't have to do this. You know what they'll d-" An almost animal-like growl stopped him mid sentence. The visor he was wearing fixed his poor vision enough to make out the figure standing in the doorway, and the long object within its hands.

A sliver of sunlight illuminated the top of the object, the exposed bare metal where parkerization had been worn off from handling reflecting the bright light.

Is that what I think it is?

As the figure stood silently in the doorway, a rapid movement was made with the left arm, stopping as fast as it came. The sound that echoed immediately dispelling any doubts Gendo had about it. As if the universe really wanted to hammer it home, the shift from its original position now meant the lower half was visible, the stamped letters on it large.

MOSSBERG, 590A1

Cut off from his growing panic, a loud hum of machinery made divert his attention for a moment to the windows of his office. The Wunder, in all her glory, rapidly approaching, a minute away at most.

"Killing me won't stop what they'll do to you. You know they'll use this as an excuse to make you rot in jail, Shinji." Gendo tried a desperate last attempt, a comment to hopefully throw him off guard long enough for WILLE soldiers to hopefully stop him. The figure did not react, barely seeming to even register the comment. Silence dominated, only occasionally being interrupted by muffled, heavy breathing from his soon to be killer.

Eye contact was made between the two, and Gendo paused. His son, in years past, had been an open book. He wore his heart on his sleeve, openly showing emotions without regret, the complete opposite of his father. His eyes, the color like his, a stormy blue that seemed to show every part of his very soul to the world. His son had been far too much of a people pleaser, trying to satisfy seemingly everyone, putting others before himself even when it ended up being pointless. He cared far too much for people that cared little about him, including his father. A bleeding heart to the end. Perhaps he got that from his mother.

Which was why Gendo was surprised when the eyes peering back at him felt like an eerie reflection. Hatred seemed to ebb out of the inky, almost black irises blending into the balaclava on his head. A raspy chuckle interrupted Gendo's observation, the noise grating and unnerving, like nails on a chalkboard. The shotgun was raised, pointed directly at Gendo's head. Multiple sets of footsteps began to become audible, a clear sign WILLE soldiers were right around the corner. A bandaged finger moved it's way onto the trigger, beginning to pull it back.

He wasn't planning on coming back to WILLE alive anyway.
