Monday, the following day
"I need another day and I'll get this guy, I know it. Would you just trust me god damn it!" Joe said to another detective he was working with.
"Fine, 24 hours and we go my way."
"Whatever man, I know this is gonna work because-" Joe got cut off by his boss.
"Reagan."
"Yeah boss?" Joe turned to see him.
"Your wife's in the hospital, they didn't tell me why." he informs quietly.
"What!?" Joe said shocked.
"Go." He told him and Joe left in a hurry.
—
"My wife Taylor Reagan is here?" He said when he got to the front desk.
"Straight down the hall, room 105." She said and a nurse approached him after hearing who he was.
"Mr.Reagan? I've been with your wife since she got here." She said and they started to walk down the hall.
"What happened?" He asked the nurse.
"She fainted at work, we're running a couple tests and we took an ultrasound, it looks like she had a miscarriage. Did she know she was pregnant?" The nurse said.
"What? No. I mean I don't know, she hadn't told me yet if she was. Can I talk to her?"
"Of course, just don't press her too hard with questions, she hit her head and is waiting to get a test for concussion."
"Okay." He said and went to see her. She was laying in the hospital bed with her eyes closed, she wasn't sleeping though.
"Tay, are you okay?" He asks getting over to her. When she opened her eyes and saw him she lost it again.
"I lost another baby Joe." Her words were heart wrenching. She was a mess, and she looked exhausted.
"I know. I'm so sorry I wasn't here babe." He gets in the bed with her and holds her. He's having deja vu from 5 months ago when they were laying here in this same situation. His heart hurt, but he could only imagine how much worse she felt.
"I can't do this anymore." She told him, their cheeks were together, he felt her tears land on his. Hearing her say that made him feel sick to his stomach.
"Did you know babe?" He asks while he tries to hug her tightly.
"No. That test was negative remember?" She closed her eyes with her head back in the bed. He held her hand, no one talked they just sat in silence. Hearing nothing but the hub bub on the other side of the curtain.
"Maybe it's time to take the next step." He said talking about IUI.
"I don't know if I can do this again though." She said with a sniffle.
"It'll be okay." He ran his thumb over her hand and then kissed her cheek.
"I don't think I'll ever be able to give us a baby."
"Don't say that." He tells her softly and hugs her tighter.
"No stop. Just please, go." She said distressed with her hands running through her hair and taking a breath.
"Baby I'm not going…? I wanna be here for you. I need to hear what they say."
"I can tell you."
"Taylor…" he was hurt she didn't want him to be here with her.
"I don't want to be around anyone."
"Even your husband?" He questions, her face in her hand almost hiding.
"Please don't do this right now." She begged.
"No way in hell I'm leaving, I'll wait out of the room if that's what you want."
"Bye." She says and turned away from him.
"Huh. Babe." He tried to consult her but she really wanted no parts to him or being touched. She pushed away.
"Fine. Yell if you need me." He left the room and went to find a nurse who he could talk to.
Her doctor ended up talking to him about everything that was going on. Joe told him how she didn't want him in the room and the doctor mentioned that it was probably just caused by the trauma and concussion. Her body and mind needed to rest.
"Do you know how far along she was?" Joe asks quietly.
"Ultrasound showed she would have been no more then 8 weeks."
"Damn." Joe said.
"Sorry for your loss, I'll be here all day." He said with a nod and walked away, Joes phone started ringing he answered.
"Hey, heard you left in a hurry everything okay?" Jamie said over the phone.
"Uh yeah. Yeah. Why? What's up?" Joe lied.
"Got some intel on the Gurados case you were working a couple weeks back. But when I called over they said you left early. Just wanted to know if you want to-"
"I can't think about that right now!" Joe snapped cutting him off.
"Okay. Alright. Uh call me back when you can…" Jamie said hesitantly.
"I will." He said and hung up. A nurse approached him and said Taylor was asking to see him, and warned she was very emotional. He went back to her room and sat down in the chair at the bed. She was looking the other way but Joe could see her flushed cheeks and tears dripping from her jaw.
"You're okay babe. Relax." He laid his hand on her leg. She turned to face him then and took a breath.
"I shouldn't have gotten like that with you earlier and-"
"No, Taylor it's okay baby you got a lot of emotions right now." He assures.
"I'm sorry." She said through tears, Joe got up and sat with her in the bed to be comforted more.
"Baby, don't be sorry, it's okay."
"I can't stop crying." She ironically said as more tears poured out and her voice broke more.
"I know, it'll be okay, you'll be okay." He assured again rubbing her head while it was buried in his chest.
A little while went by, she had a mild concussion from hitting her head and believe the reason for fainting was from all the blood loss plus she hadn't been hydrated much either. She had been getting plenty of fluids though now and was feeling stronger.
"So I should call the family…or not? Tell them what's going on?" Joe asked while Taylor ate the hospital lunch.
"Huh. I guess. But I don't want any visitors."
"You got it. I'll step out or do you want to hear?"
"No. Go out there." She said pointing out of the room.
"Okay." He kissed her forehead before leaving and called his mom first.
"Hey bud what's up?" Paula said answering.
"Hey. You busy?"
"No just got home from the store, Sam is out fixing the Christmas lights that went out a couple days ago after that storm." She said, he heard the bags rustling on the other end
"Nice. Well um I'm at the hospital right, Taylor fainted at work today."
"Oh my god, is she okay?"
"Getting there. She has a mild concussion."
"Geez. Do they know why or what happened?"
"Yeah, she uh, had a miscarriage."
"Oh no, is she okay?! God, I'm so sorry. I can't imagine."
"She's dealing, she didn't even know she was pregnant actually, it was early yet. But she's still pretty upset."
"Huh honey I'm so sorry, what can I do?." Paula told him.
"Nothing mom, she doesn't want visitors or anything either. I just knew I wanted to call you and let you know what was going on is all."
"I'm glad you called. Give her a hug for me please?"
"I will, I gotta go."
"Okay talk to you later."
"Yup bye." He said and hung up.
Joe spend the rest of the day with Taylor, trying his best to be there for her and comfort her. She needed to rest and sleep, which she only did when he was in the bed with her.
