OldLonBird- He just wants something to fight over, to find something that proves they can't run this place like he can. We find out what's happening at Woodbury in this chapter.
Exactly they just need to keep him away from everyone because it won't take him long to mess everything up. Thank you for the review.

Danny's POV
I've been awake for some time now, I had to get up to feed Riley and after putting him back in his basket I was unable to fall back asleep. Daryl is laying behind me with his arm slung over my middle. When I got back in bed he pulled me back until I was flush against his chest. It's been a couple of days since we survived and came back from Woodbury and his arm is healing nicely. It's still bandaged up and he's been taking the antibiotics we brought back as a precautionary measure.
The Sheriff has been sitting in his cell silently since he was locked in there, the only time he speaks is if Herschel or Carl go and see him. Like I thought Carl was extremely difficult once he found out where his dad was. He threatened to shoot someone if we didn't let his dad go but his dad talked him out of it. Carl still isn't happy and doesn't move from where he sits outside his dad's cell but his dad convinced him that if he doesn't stay calm we'll lock him up as well and then he won't be able to protect Judith.
I slowly let out a deep breath, I don't know if we did the right thing. No one else has said a word about it, they haven't argued the Sheriff's case and they haven't said they agree with it. I'm worried we've done something wrong and they're too worried to speak up about it.
Daryl's arm tightens and then his breath ruffles the fly away hairs on top of my head. "What's wrong?" His voice is full of sleep and I know I've accidently just woke him up.
"I didn't mean to wake you". I place my hand on top of his and entwine our fingers.
I feel his lips against the top of my head. "Talk to me".
"You think we did the right thing, locking up the Sheriff I mean".
He sighs, "It's for our safety", he pauses, "and for his. We can't trust him and until we know what's happenin' it's for the best".
"INCOMIN'", that's Merle's very loud shout coming from the entrance to our cell block. "EVERYONE UP, NOW!"
Daryl gently but also kind of forcefully pushes me out of bed. I quickly throw on my hoodie and stuff my feet into my boots as he pulls on his trousers, and then for a second we both stare at each other and then look over at Riley as he remains sleeping, undisturbed by Merle's shouting.
"You go first," he says "I've got him". I hesitate for a second, not convinced that's the right choice but when Daryl goes over to Rileys basket I grab my weapons that are sitting by the door and then rush out of our cell and head in the direction everyone else is going in.
I catch up with Sophia as we go outside, she looks behind me quickly. "Where's Daryl?"
"He's grabbing Riley. He'll catch up. You know what's happening?"
She shakes her head but she doesn't need to answer because as I stop beside Merle I can see what the shouting was about. People. About ten from what I can see. Merle nudges me with his arm.
"Rifle".
Before I even take a step back to go and retrieve it Carol appears before me holding it in her hands. "Already grabbed it".
I take it from her, "thank you". She knew I'd need it and she knew I'd forget to bring it.
I hold up my rifle and look through the sight. I don't recognise any of them from the group that attacked us at Woodbury but that doesn't mean anything. It's a mixture of men and women and each one is carrying a bag on their backs but it's the weapons I focus on. Not many are holding guns but that doesn't mean they don't have any on them.
"What do you see?" That's Daryl's voice, I jerk my head towards his voice, he's walking up behind me and he has something wrapped around him. He catches me looking and tugs on the knot that's across his chest. "It's your scarf", He turns his torso a little for me to get a look at what it's doing. He's made a baby carrier for Riley. Not sure why that hasn't been thought of before, that's extremely useful. He jerks his head towards the people coming down the road outside of the prison, still waiting for my answer.
"Oh, Um. I can't tell. I don't recognise any of them".
He holds his hand out, "Let me take a look". It's silent while he takes a look for himself. He suddenly looks at Merle. "It's Sasha and Tyreese."
I remember those names, they came just after I had given birth but left when the Sheriff went crazy at them. I never got to meet them but both Daryl and Merle said they seemed okay. So much so they offered them the chance to stay but they declined because of the other people they were with.
"What's the plan then?" Merle asks.
Daryl hands me my rifle back. "We go talk to them".
Before anyone can take a step I hold out my arm to stop Daryl from moving. "Wait, you liked those two right? So put your weapons away".
"Isn't that being a bit too trustworthy" Oscars pipes in.
"If they are attempting to come in peace then we don't want to greet them with loads of weapons, but keep them ready and easy to grab just in case." A few of them look pretty sceptical about agreeing to it. "If we stand down there in a triangle shape those at the back can have their handguns out but keep them hidden behind the person in front of you. Daryl, you stand behind me". He looks like he's about to argue but I shake my head. "You have Riley". That stops him from trying to talk me out of the idea straight away. It'll probably be the last time he offers to grab Riley again.
"Is everyone ready?". Everyone except Herschel and Beth nod. Carl is still inside beside his fathers cell and he has Judith.
Herschel puts his arm around Beth's shoulder. "We'll stay here, we'll take the keys to Rick's cell just in case something happens". Herschel then looks straight at me. "Not that it will". Can't tell if he really has faith in the situation or if he's just trying to convince himself that everything will be okay.
Carol hands him the keys and then the two of them walk back towards D block.
"Who wants to be at the back?" I ask. Glenn and Maggie both say they will, and when I look at Michonne she nods her head.
"I will too," Carol offers.
With that sorted it's decided that Oscar, Axel and Daryl are the ones that stand in front of them, with Daryl being in the middle of them both. Merle stands just behind me on my right and Sophia copies him on my left. I sling my rifle over my shoulder and then we move.
We reach the gate just as the other group do, they stand in a huddle with some of them facing away from us, keeping watch of their backs. I have to be honest, some of them do not look comfortable, they look extremely worried about being outside.
I take in a deep breath and let it out. I should have taken Riley then Daryl could have done the talking.
"Hi, I'm Danny. You're Tyreese and Sasha right?" I don't actually know who they are until they both take a step forward after I say their names.
"We are, and you must be Danny", Sasha says. "You had just had a baby when we were here last. How are you doing?"
"I'm okay and so is the baby." Okay, niceties, that's a good sign. "May I ask why you guys are here?"
Sasha looks up at Tyreese, "We've come for refuge" he finally says. "Woodbury's falling apart, there are riots, fights happening in the streets. Andrea has a following and they're trying to control the situation but a lot of the people still believe in what the governor was doing, most of them were the guards, they were his men that followed every order he gave. People are getting hurt and a lot of people are leaving. This group was trying to leave when Andrea managed to catch them. She told us to bring them here, she's hoping you'll take them in. They're good people".
"You're husband offered us two the chance to stay before, we're hoping you'll do the same". Sasha adds a final plea for me to consider what they're saying.
Daryl trusted that Sasha and Tyreese were good people but we haven't met the others, how do we know they aren't pretending to need help so we let them in.
"You have to understand my hesitation, I want to believe that you're all good people but we don't know any of you." I then look around at the faces in their group. None of them look like bad people but the end of the world can change someone.
"None of these people were part of the Governors army", Sasha pleads. "They were just there for protection, some of them even tried to talk the Governor out of building his army".
"Look" Tyreese says in a very calm voice, "We can't make you take us in. If you decide that we can't seek refuge here then we'll go on our way. We won't force the situation, you have kids so I would completely understand".
I look over my shoulder at Merle asking him, with no words, what does he think. His eyes flick between all the people before he finally looks at me. The nod is tiny but he's happy to let them in.
I look over my other shoulder at Sophia, she purses her lips but also nods. That's two yes's. The vote has to be unanimous, if one person says no then we don't let them in. I turn my back on the group of people, as soon as I do Merle and Sophia step closer to me. I look at Oscar, followed by Maggie, Glenn and Carol. All are a yes, Maggies seems a little hesitant but she finally nods. When I get to Michonne she stares at the group for absolutely ages, honestly she's the one that I think will say no.
"I don't remember seeing any of them being part of the Governor's men." She finally nods, "But doesn't mean we shouldn't be cautious".
Axel nods his head with a shrug, he's the type of person to just go along with the majority. I saved Daryl for last, I wanted him to have time to assess everyone, see what he could get out of their behaviour. Does he think they look shifty, is there anyone he doesn't like the look of; However as soon as I put my attention on him he nods. He wants us to give them a chance.
I turn back around. "If we let you come in you have to agree to surrender all weapons. We want to help you but we have kids here and I can't put them at risk".
"We'll do anything". Tyreese says.
"Let them in". I tell Merle. A woman in the group seems to let go of all the tension in her body when Merle opens the gate and then all of them are hurrying inside to escape the Walkers that are coming out of the trees.
As soon as all of them are through the gates Tyreese lowers his hammer and knife onto the floor before looking at all his people, they hesitate but then copy him.
"Glenn?" Glenn comes over as I call his name, his gun back in its holster. "Can you pick up their weapons please."
He walks around every person individually and picks their weapons off the floor, he also visually checks their bodies to see if he can see anything hiding.
"I would also like to check all of your belongings, to make sure there's nothing hiding in your bags." I want to believe and trust them but they have to earn that right, but once again they do it without any arguments. They take off their bags and open them up for Merle to dig around inside. Once he's gone through everyone he turns to me.
"All good". I nod my head at him in thanks.
"Let's take this up to the prison", It's still early and the chill in the air is making me cold as I'm still wearing the shorts I slept in.
