Inutori: I'm back for the next chapter! (even though I'm writing this before I posted the first)
Kagome: Inuyasha is owned by peoples other than Inutori, so don't sue her, please.
Inutori: I also don't own the song Cold Day in July by the Dixie Chicks.
Sagi: So why don't y'all just go an' read the story.
Gem: Will you quit it with the slang already, Saggy?

Chapter 2
Cold Day in July

Kagome opened her eyes drowsily, the rustling of material pulling her from her dreamland. She could hear Inuyasha's grumbling and she smiled a bit. They were engaged for five months before they had finally tied the knot, and it had been almost three months since the wedding.

Married life wasn't that bad. In fact, Kagome was enjoying it. She had her true love and both of them had well paid careers.

"Kagome, where's my tie?"

With a roll of her eyes, Kagome sat up and looked at her husband. He was wearing only his boxers, holding his tuxedo in one hand while tearing apart the room with the other. "Did you check the closet?"

"Yes, of course!" Inuyasha snapped back at her, obviously having wakened on the wrong side of the bed today. Then again…was there a right side of the bed for Inuyasha?

She sighed lightly and stood up, her black night gown falling lightly into its proper place helped by gravity's pull. Leave it to Inuyasha to be late to the premier of his latest movie for the sake of finding his favorite tie.

"It's right here on its hangar, Inuyasha!" Kagome pulled the tie out from amongst his others and held it up for him.

He let out a 'keh' and huffed into the walk-in closet, allowing Kagome to put his tie on for him. She gave him a light kiss on the lips and patted his shoulder.

"Now you better get moving or you're going to miss your big debut!" She smiled fondly at his retreating form and didn't move until he was gone from the bedroom.

The intercom in the bedroom rang and Kagome lazily went to answer it.

"Hai?"

The voice on the other end droned that there was a call for her on line 2, so she hung up and punched the button for line 2.

"This is Kagome speaking."

"This is Dr. Tamo's office, calling to confirm your 11:30 appointment with him today."

Kagome mentally hit herself. She had forgotten. And she had promised Inuyasha last night that she would meet him for lunch at noon. "How long will the appointment take?"

"No more than an hour, ma'am."

"Can I reschedule? I have to meet someone at noon."

"Yes ma'am. How does next Tuesday at 9 a.m. sound to you?"

Kagome thought. Next Tuesday would be the 17th, as far as she knew there was nothing going on that morning. "That'll be fine. Let me connect you with my agent to schedule it officially."

When that was over, Kagome collapsed back into her bed and put her arm over her face. She still wasn't sure if she wanted to know what the doctor would tell her. Her period should have started three weeks ago, and it was showing no signs of beginning any time soon. Being pregnant crossed her mind, but she had had this same problem in high school and she had to be put on antibiotics for her safety back then otherwise she could have permanently damaged her uterus.

She didn't lie there for very long before getting up to take a shower and get ready to go out. While she was in the bathroom Kagome took a good look at the ever so slight swelling in her gut. If she didn't go see the doctor soon, she knew that the build up could kill her.

So with a slight shrug, she slipped on a slightly loose fitting spring dress and brushed out her hair.

Inuyasha was probably waiting impatiently for her at the shrine where they had promised to meet. Kagome was a few minutes late, but oh well. She spotted him lying under the Goshinboku out of the sun with someone else sitting up beside him.

Were her eyes mistaken, or was that the supermodel on this month's Entertainment? And…Inuyasha was lying in her lap? Jealousy sparked somewhere within her and she felt the flames of anger rise in her body.

The moon is full and my arms are empty
All night long I've pleaded and cried
You always said the day that you would leave me
Would be a cold day in July

Kagome's initial anger and jealousy shattered with tears of her betrayal. She didn't even make it to Inuyasha when she turned tail and ran. The steep shrine steps gave her the sense that she was falling. Falling to her doom.

Inuyasha had been unfaithful; so much for the thought that a dog was as loyal as they come. Perhaps Inuyasha hadn't been ready to settle down with any particular girl, that he was still his playboy self at heart.

She had made back to the villa without really noticing and soon found herself buried in her pillow. The tears flowed like waterworks into the cloth-covered feathers, and Kagome lost track of how much time she spent like that.

Soon HE came home, and Kagome didn't know if she could face him. So instead, she pulled out his suitcases and began hastily throwing his belongings into them in her anger.

"What are you doing, woman?" Inuyasha came into the room with that same angry expression on his face that he had sported this morning. Why couldn't he have been angry when he was with his girlfriend? MaybeKagome was the one that made him angry like this.

"I'm packing your things, what does it look like?" Kagome didn't even look up at him as she forcibly closed one of the full bags and locked it.

She could feel his anger rise as the air seemed to get a bit colder; as if he was sucking the very heat out of the room. "I can see that, but what FOR?!" Kagome turned and saw the coldness in his eyes. It was a hate she had never seen before. They had known each other for about a year and Kagome had never seen that much hatred in his eyes.

Taking in an unsteady breath, she hefted one of the bags up and threw it at Inuyasha. He caught it with ease, but remained focused on Kagome. "I don't know. You figure it out." She swallowed her saliva before speaking again. "Goodbye, Inuyasha Jidai." And with those words spoken, Kagome stormed out of the room passed Inuyasha and locked herself in a nearby room.

Your bags are packed not a word is spoken
I guess we said everything with good-bye
Time moves so slow and promises get broken
On this cold day in July

A long time passed and Kagome fell asleep crying. The was no clock nearby so she had no idea how long it had been since she said her last words to her husband.

She heard Inuyasha swearing in the hall, and knew that he was carrying something heavy by the sound of his footsteps. Silently she slipped out of her hiding place and followed Inuyasha just out of sight as he loaded his sports car up with his bags and started the engine.

Before he could leave though, his agent stopped him to talk, so Kagome took the moment to head to the main gate where she could watch him drive away.

Neighboring villas seemed bright and alive compared to hers at the time, and Kagome noted the fact that it must have been morning since the sun was just rising.

Behind her she heard the roar of Inuyasha's car, signifying that he was about to leave.

Sun's comin' up comin' up down on Main Street
Children shout as they're running out to play
Head in my hands here I am
Standing in my bare feet
Watching you drive away
Watching you drive away

Kagome tried desperately to hold back her next geyser of tears, but it was no use. Inuyasha was driving away and out of her life forever. He was the love of her life, her everything, and now he was leaving.

With a small hiccup, Kagome headed back into the villa and pulled out the scrapbook she kept of the time she had spent with Inuyasha.

They had first met at the Oscars last year and they had just clicked. Then they had started to date.

She smiled slightly at a picture in the book. It was taken by a photographer when they had gone to a theme park last summer. When the flash had gone off, Inuyasha had attacked the guy without realizing what he was doing until afterwards. The man ended up running off and leaving his camera behind.

You said that we were gonna last forever
You said our love would never die
It looks like spring and
It feels like sunny weather
But it's a cold day in July

Kagome flipped to the next page, her smallsmilebrightening slightlyat the tabloid she had cut up and put in the book. "Playboy Inuyasha ties not with Actress Kagome Higurashi." She had even cut out the article and put that in as well. It was about their wedding and then the reception.

They had been so happy back then. What had happened? Tears filled her eyes once again and she ducked her head down in mourning.

Did she make a mistake in marrying him? Or was her mistake letting him go so easily? What if she was being rash and too quick to judge. She should have waited to hear Inuyasha's side of the scene she had witnessed.

Oh sun's comin' up comin' up down on Main Street
Children shout as they're running out to play
Head in my hands here I am
Standing in my bare feet
Watching you drive away
Watching you drive away

Kagome hummed to herself, drying her tears with the throw blanket on the chair she was currently sitting on. Her "perfect" life had just been flushed down the toilet, much to her dismay.

The moon is full and my arms are empty
All night long I've pleaded and cried
You always said the day that you would leave me
Would be a cold day in July
Here comes that cold day in July
Oh
Yeah
Oh yeah
La da da la da da la dad a
Oh Ooo

Inutori: Another chapter done for all of you peoples out there. I think that the story is turning out…OK…but I have to get some reviews in order for me to know what all of you think of it.
Sagi: You lost me there. What did you just say?
Gem: It doesn't matter if you're lost or not, as long as the readers get the jiff of it.
Sagi: But I AM one of the readers!
Gem: Does it look like I care?
Inutori: You two, quit fighting. And readers? Go review! Onegai? (please?)
