Inutori: I actually think I'm going to write all six chapters then post them one at a time…I'm having so much fun writing this…
Sagi: But now that you have told us your plot, you have to post chapters 5 and 6 right now!
Inutori: I think not, Sag! For I am evil and will not loosen my hold on my power over you!
Sagi: You have no power over me, baka.
Inutori: Maybe so! But I shall soon! But in the meantime, I'm still working on the 'I don't own Inuyasha' issue, so that should be cleared up soon. And I don't even want to own the country music I'm using the lyrics of!

Chapter 4
Without You

Kagome woke up Tuesday morning, sighing with the realization that she had a doctor's appointment today. It had been a week since Inuyasha left already, but it still hurt like it was just yesterday. She had seen their story plastered all over the tabloids about how either she had mercilessly kicked Inuyasha out or that Inuyasha had abandoned her for someone else.

But she knew that both sides were slightly right. He HAD been cheating on her, but she still had kicked him out of the villa without fair warning.

Getting ready for her appointment was a pain, but she had to. Another week and her period still hadn't come. At this point it could already be doing some serious damage to her insides.

She drove to the doctor's and took the elevator to the fourth floor where her appointment was. Kagome just wished that Inuyasha could still have been here with her to comfort her a little since the news she was going to hear could be drastic.

I've sure enjoyed the rain
But I'm looking forward to the sun
You have to feel the pain
When you lose the love you gave someone
I thought by now the time
Would take away these lonely tears
I hope you're doing fine all alone,
But where do I go from here

"Jidai Kagome." There was a nurse standing in the doorway to the waiting room, holding a clipboard in one hand. He had long black hair tied up in a high ponytail and striking blue eyes.

"Hai." Kagome stood up and joined the nurse at the door. His name tag read: Kouga Ookami M.D. "Aren't you the nurse?" She felt kind of weird asking, but something about him made him seem more like the doctor and not a nurse.

"Just for today, I'm playing nurse. We're a little short handed so I'm going beyond my line of duty." He gave her a toothy grin, revealing his sharp canines.

'Cause
Without you I'm not okay
And without you I've lost my way
My heart's stuck in second place ooh
Without you

The checkup went smoothly, and Kouga came back into the room with the results of the test.

"There's nothing to worry about, Kagome-san. What you're experiencing is perfectly normal." Kouga was smiling brightly at her, and she wondered silently what his problem was. "You're just pregnant."

Kagome felt slightly faint at that point. She had brushed off pregnancy as an impossibility so long ago it seemed. Her mouth opened and closed like she had been transformed into some sort of fish and she stood up.

"You'll have to schedule a follow up appointment at the front desk for three weeks from now so we can take monitor you're pregnancy." His smile didn't diminish as he escorted Kagome to the place he had earlier directed, and then he left to take care of other patients in the ward.

She got home and quickly went to her room, thinking about her husband and their unborn child.

Well I never thought I'd be
Lying here without you by my side
It seems unreal to me that
The life you promised was a lie
You made it look so easy
Making love into memories
I guess you got what you wanted
But what about me

Instinctively Kagome ran a hand over her stomach, a confused look covering her face. This was something that she thought that she would never have to deal with. She had watched her own mother raise two children without a father, and had always told herself that she wouldn't be like that.

Just look at her now. Kagome laughed spitefully. Here she was following her mother's footsteps even after telling herself she never would.

Clenching the fist that had been resting on her stomach, Kagome tried to hold back more tears. "Not again."

'Cause
Without you I'm not okay
And without you I've lost my way
My heart's stuck in second place ooh
Without you

She sat up in bed and picked up the phone on her night stand. Her finger gently pressed each of the buttons in an order she had memorized since childhood, a number that could never give her wrong.

"Higurashi residence. May I ask who's calling?"

"Mom?" Kagome felt a tear trickle down her cheek and barely made note of the small wet spot that appeared on her bedspread.

"Kagome? Oh, honey. What's going on over there?" Her mother sounded worried, and rightly so. To have your son-in-law walk out on your daughter without warning was kind of strange.

"I'm not sure. Mom, I want to come home." Kagome's lower lip shuddered involuntarily as she spoke, her words coming out shakily.

Somebody tell my head to try to tell my heart
That I'm better off without you
'Cause baby I can't live

There was silence on the other end of the phone, and Kagome tried to picture what her mother was doing. "Don't worry, honey. I'll clean up your old room and you can stay with us for a while."

"A-arigato, okaa-san." Kagome felt a heavy burden lifting from her shoulders and a weak smile graced her face.

Without you I'm not okay
And without you I've lost my way
My heart's stuck in second place ooh
Without you Without you

She got off the bullet train at Tokyo station, looking around to see if she could see her mother, but it seemed that she was a bit late. So Kagome took to looking around a bit, silently remembering the city in which she was raised.

When she passed the magazine rack, her heart felt like it had been stabbed. On the front cover of one of the publications was a picture of Inuyasha and his new girlfriend, with a picture of herself beside it. The headline read: 'Director Inuyasha Jidai recovers quickly from quarrel with his wife. Will he file for divorce?'

Kicking him out of the house had seemed like the end of it all. But Kagome felt a new anger blaze to life that she wasn't sure about. Divorce just seemed so…final. Was there really no hope for them to just 'kiss and makeup'?

I

Inutori: ::sighs:: Got another chapter done and out of the way. Now to go write the last two chapters for you…
Inuyasha: Why am I not in the story anymore?
Inutori: Because you're a jerk that doesn't deserve Kagome so now you're out of the picture.
Inuyasha: It's Kagome who doesn't deserve me!
Kagome: Osuwari!
Inutori: This is the part where I look at all of the readers and crawl on my knees begging them to review.
