No spoilers at all. Actually, kinda plotless. But fluffy. Very fluffy.
DISLCAIMER: One and only, so get it here. I. Own. Nothing. This includes the Inuyasha series, the poem If Wishes Were Horses, and sundry. That all belongs to different people, who make a lot more money than I do.
If Wishes Were Horses
"If wishes were horses"
Tis a thought I well know
"Beggars would ride"
But where would they go?
To sun-speckled pools
The dappled mares go
They race up high mountains
To dance in the snow
"If wishes were horses"
I know where I'd ride
For a fortnight I'd travel
To be by your side
I'd crash through your office
"On the twenty-first floor?"
Lift you up to the saddle
And race out the door
And then up the walls of the world
We would race
Laughing and singing
Feel the wind in your face?
Through star-studded meadows
Our stallion he flys
And we'd stop 'neath an elm tree
And I'd gaze in your eyes
"If wishes were horses"
They are love, they are!
"Beggars would ride"
So let's head for the stars

It wasn't in Kagome's nature to do things like this. But he was there and she was there and they were there and so it happened. She kissed Kouga.
He looked at her, dumbfounded, when it was over. Because Kagome didn't kiss. Anyone. Not even the hanyou. But she'd done it. She'd kissed him, like there was nothing else in the world but them. It was started and then over so fast that he barely had time to register it.
"What did you do that for?" he asked, his voice a little rougher than he would have liked.
He saw her face fall and knew he'd done something wrong.
"You didn't like it?" She looked near tears. One of her small, fragile hands came up, balled in to a fist, and rapped repeatedly on her head. "Stupidstupidstupid..."
He grabbed her hand. "No, I liked it. I just... don't know why. I thought you... you loved..." He couldn't say it, couldn't say the name, because then she might remember who she loved, who she belonged to, and run back to him.
"Yes... I do love Inuyasha." His heart broke, and he was about to ask her, Well why aren't you with him, then? but she kept talking like she hadn't just shattered his world. "But I don't... don't love him like that. I think I might love you." Her voice lowered on the last part, but he could still hear it. Could have heard it from ten miles away with his fingers stuck in his ears.
"I've wished... for so long... Kagome, you..."
She smiled up at him, and his heart beat double time, proving itself to be fully mended now, thankyouverymuch. "If wishes were horses..."
He frowned slightly, unfamaliar with the phrase. "What? We'd all be eating steak?"
She laughed and shook her head. "No. It's a poem... 'If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.' I always interpreted it as being about two people who overcome the odds and make their wishes come true."
He grinned, leaning in a bit closer. "So then, care to make a wish?"
Kagome just laughed and kissed him again. After all, they didn't really need wishes, just each other.
