They sit together, kneeling before one another. Their right hands are clasped tightly, the left wrapped so each can clasp his brother's hand entirely in his own.

Blood bubbles from pale lips, a pause in their prayer as both open their eyes and look to one another before resuming.

"...though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, for thou art with me..."

And he wonders, watching them, exactly whom they address in their prayer.

"Amen."

They stay silent, still, until one hand loosens and falls away, hitting the floor with no noise. A small choked off sob, and both of them are moving, one collapsing into the other, folded into his brothers arms and legs and held close.

"Frere."

"Oui."

"Je t'adore."

"Je t'adore. Je t'attendre."

He knows that the choice of words is no accident, that the choice of language is to make it clear that his presence is tolerated in this moment, but not accepted.

Softly, their lips meet, chaste and innocent except the smear of blood between them. A weak push and grab, fingers curled behind his brother's neck, pulling him down to leave a bloody mark on his forehead before dropping into his embrace once more.

A kiss in exchange, identical blood on their mouths and foreheads, just like every other mark they have put on their bodies.

A wet rattle and silence. He lowers his head, his face tight and painful with the acceptance that it is over.

He hears a click and looks up, shocked to see one pale hand limply holding a gun.

"What..."

"Take it."

He can't resist, steps forward and takes the gun, hand steady though his heart trembles. "And...?"

"Suicide is a mortal sin." His head stays down turned to his brother, one hand gently cupping his still face. "Regret it, repent it, just don't make me stay here. Not by myself."

He wants to balk but he can't. Cocks the safety and points the gun. "It was an honour to know you both."

It's almost like shooting a dead body. He feels no guilt. Just relief.

Footnote: Their conversation should be thus in English

"Brother."

"Yes."

"I love you."

"I love you too. Wait for me."
