They hadn't even talked at work and though neither would admit it, it was killing them both.

The weekend was even worse.

It had been just a week since Lu had moved out and had moved herself and Rosa back into her old apartment. Rosa was crankier than ever – more than once whispering 'momma' and looking at the door expectantly – and Lu was right there with her.

They both looked up when there was a knock at the door. There wasn't anything distinctive about it but Lu knew immediately who it was—the last yet only person she wanted to see.

''What do you want?'' Yes, it was cold, Lu would freely admit that, but what else was there to ask? There was nothing left to discuss – they wanted different things and so what would be the point of living together?

''Momma…'' it was the softest of sounds coming from Rosa and Andy had to struggle to keep the tears back.

''I want you to come home,'' Andy said, trying to keep herself from looking at Rosa. She desperately wanted Rosa back in her life, back in her house, rock the little girl back to sleep when she had a bad dream, but it wasn't just about her. It was about wanting Lu near as well. They saw each other at work every day but Andy too wanted more than that. She didn't know if they entirely wanted the same thing but she wanted them in the same house while they figured it out.
