Chapter Four
Law of the School Yard
Izuku jolted up from his bed as his alarm went off. The young teen slowly got up from his bed to look at his desk to find the notebook he was working on all night.
Izuku slowly took a breath, got out of his bed and picked up the book. Izuku had to keep working on it, no matter what. So he began writing what he could. Footsteps were heard coming at the door. Izuku stopped writing and closed the book quickly. The door opened to reveal his mother with a bag of lunch for him, with an ironed-out black school uniform.
"Honey your wake, you should get ready quickly for your first day of school" Inko said excited for her son to attend a new school.
Izuku felt a sense of dread but forced a smile on his face.
"Oh yay, i'll get ready, thanks mom." Izuku said.
Inko felt the clothes on his bed, leaving the boy alone in his room. Izuku slowly walked over to his inform staring at it, remembering a lot of bad memories. Izuku reached for his clothes when he noticed his hand was shaking out of fear.
Izuku took a deep breath and gripped the uniform, he put his new clothes on and picked up his school bag. Walking downstairs in his new school uniform that was the exact same as his original one from his old school. His mother had his lunch ready at the table. Inko looked at her son with watery eyes.
"Oh I hope you enjoy your first day sweet." she said almost with watery eyes.
Izuku smiled back and got his school bag ready, with his lunch in the other.
"Thank you mom, I will." Izuku turned towards the door, walking out to find a nice sunny day shining bright at him. Izuku began his walk from his house to the school, lucky he was shown the route to school the day Izuku moved here. Izuku walked forward passing the people by and weaving his way through the occasional crowd. Izuku noticed some local restaurants and little stores around the area but kept his pace to school.
Then making his way to a stop light a group of kids young then were talking behind him. Izuku didn't want to eavesdrop but their conversation drew his attention.
"Man, that was such a crazy blackout yesterday." The child said
"Didn't you hear that apparently it happened around the entire country." The other kid said in a hushed whisper.
Izuku looked down at the ground and remembered what Optimus said. "No one can know." Izuku said mentally to himself. Though Izuku was lost in his thoughts. He was still thinking about going to school. Ather walking a couple of minutes to the school, Izuku kept overhearing more about the blackout.
"Could the Energon explosion cause this blackout?"
While moving away towards the crosswalk Izuku could see the school building ahead. The top of the building was visible while the rest was being obscured by trees. Izuku realized that the school was near a park, so he decided to walk through the park thinking it would be faster.
Izuku walked through the park noticing the trees around him were aspens. Izuku thought it was an odd choice to put in the park, but did notice the beauty in them. Their white park looked shiny, while the bright green leaves looked amazing. Izuku couldn't take his eyes off them. They felt like they had a healthy glow. Izuku saw the school enter the school building. A big School stood tall with its white walls, and blue roof and looked very clean. This was Hasbro high.
He entered the school with fear-shaking legs remembering all those painful times at his previous school. He stopped at the gate, Izuku's mind screaming out to not go any further. Izuku took a deep breath.
"If I can face Megatron, I can face school." Izuku told himself.
With one final step, he made his way toward his class. He walked towards the school and put his things away in his assigned locker. He put his belongings there and adventure deep into the school. Izuku looked at his surroundings, noticing the walls of the school were covered in light green paint and the blue floor tiles shined. Izuku remembered the classroom he was assigned.
He kept passing hallways and seeing other classrooms, people in them were hanging out before school started, Izuku kept seeing kids having a good time relaxing, laughing with each other, and most of all having big smiles on their faces. Izuku envied them because they were friends. After a while, he found his classroom number.
Izuku stared at the wooden sign that said: Class G-1. Izuku could see the sliding door was closed. Izuku could hear the chatter of fellow students talking. Soon flashing memories of his harsh classroom day started to pop into his mind. Izuku pushed back those thoughts, walking over to it and standing in front of it. With a shaky hand, he reached out for the handle and opened the door.
All of the chit-chats stopped in the class to see who was coming in. Izuku finally could see the classroom, with new classmates inside. Many of them had different appearances, some of them had unique skin colors like purple, blue, or pink some looked normal. Though there was one thing about the class that freaked out Izuku. Everyone was looking at him. He then slowly walked over to an empty desk and took a seat, only to see everyone looking at him.
"Um Hello." Izuku told the class.
The rest of the class went back to what they were doing before, but Izuku could catch some glances from them, not angry looks or annoyed looks. They glanced more nervously at Izuku. It was then he noticed everyone in the class sort of gave him space. Izuku didn't understand what was happening so he just left it at that.
"They're afraid of you if you're wondering." A voice pecked out from behind him.
It was then Izuku turned his body towards the voice that spoke to him, to see the desk behind him. It was a girl who had dark black hair, tied up into two short tails, with a pink streak in front of her hair. She wore a white bottom-up shirt, with a blue skirt that reached her knees.
Her mood screamed happiness while she looked at Izuku. Izuku couldn't really understand why they were afraid of him. The girl then shot an open hand at Izuku. The moment she moved towards him with action. Izuku panics and shields himself covering his head. The girl looked back at Izuku with raised eyebrows.
"You good." She asked.
Izuku immediately read the situation wrong, and awkwardly scrambled to make him look less awkward. Izuku began speaking fast, talking with shakey words.
"Yay sorry, just a little nervous in a new school and all." Izuku muttered.
Her eyebrows raised with joyful internet. In a flash, Izuku noticed that she had a smile on her face. Her hand is still out.
"Well my name is Miko Nakadai." Izuku shook the hand in front of him, slowly taking in his surroundings.
"My name is Izuku Midoryia and it's nice to meet you." Izuku said shily, Shaking Miko's hands, the two let go of each other, when Izuku remembered an important detail. He was talking to a girl for the first time. His face started to heat up, while a red rose blush appeared on his face. 'To say Izuku was shy about girls was an understatement, due to his past no girl ever talked to him, because being quirkless affected everything about Izuku.
Miko Noticed the blush looking at Izuku with a questioning gaze.
"You okay?" Miko asked, tilting her head.
Izuku, covering up his face, began to calm down remembering she was just a person and there was nothing to worry about. Izuku to a calm breath shaking off any embarrassing thoughts.
"Sorry, a bit shy is all." he said, lying through his teeth.
Miko smiled at the comment.
"Well, Izuku you got to tell, me what it's like to live in the city, I mean it's gotta be so cool to see all those heroes in your area." Izuku wasn't expecting that question, most times, when somebody meets another they ask what their quirk is, see if they're special. Izuku still loved quirks and heroes, but he wasn't as enthusiastic anymore, for his attention might be on a new outworld subject.
"Well I wouldn't say anything special, I've seen a lot of heros like Kmaui Woods, Mount lady, Death arms, and All-might. Izuku said with a pondering tone of voice, though the part where he said All-might, had a bit of sadness in his voice. Miko didn't notice, she was too busy thinking about all the heroes Izuku had seen.
"Really no way, that's so cool, okay I know you're from the big city, but did you see the fight with Endeavor, fighting off that Beetle villain." Miko asked, geeking out.
"Oh yay, it was so cool. Endeavor had to use his prominence burn move twice." Izuku gushed happily.
"It was so cool." Miko stated. "I'm like a total nerd for heroes and heavy metal music."
"That's cool, it's really nice to meet you, but I thought I was supposed to introduce myself to the class." Izuku said, wanting to know what school was like here, but so far like it already, though a nagging fear of being bullied or picked on, was still there.
"Yay you could or I can talk to the new city kid, who probably got an amazing quirk." Miko asked, Izuku's mind was filled with dread questions. What should he say, that he had nothing, let himself be ridiculed for the rest of his school life?
"What do I say? what do I say?" Izuku thought. Dark thoughts began to cloud his mind as he repeated the question.
"I'm actually quirkless…" Izuku said, waiting for the disappointed sigh or worse a pitted look, thinking they were better. He waited for it, only to hear a cheerful giggle.
"No way, I'm quirkless too man, talk about a small world."
Izuku reared his head up, in surprise. He never met another quirkless person, his same age. He always knew it was rare nowadays for people to be born quirkless. There was something new here Izuku felt, for the first time he could relate to another.
"Really?" Izuku asked.
"Yay totally, I wish I had one though." Miko said. "I would love to fly or maybe shoot lasers out of my eyes"
"Oh man, that would be so cool." Izuku cheers.
"Maybe this school will be Different." Izuku thought. Izuku then remembered that quirkless comment Mike said.
"Hey what was up with that quirk thing?" Izuku asked.
Miko then had a perplexed look on her face, like Izuku hadn't heard the big news.
"You're serious, Izuku no offense but this town is famous for having no quirks here." Miko said. "I mean like almost everybody in this town is quirkless."
His eyes went wide at such news. He thought he would never meet another quirkless person his age.
"Oh, I never heard of something like that." Izuku said with surprise.
"Yay if you're quirkless, you don't have anything to worry about." Miko said happily. "Plus everyone here is super chill."
As Miko said that, the sliding door to the classroom slammed open. All the classroom looked to the door to see someone walking into the classroom. Izuku looked to see someone in the same school uniform as Izuku. His eyes widened in surprise to see the same blue-haired teen who was trapped in the mailbox. Though he was a bit taller than Izuku.
"I have terrible news everyone, last night's blackout wasn't a villain attack, but an alien invasion." He announced to the whole class, Izuku's mouth dropped as he looked in shock. The whole room fell silent but everyone just immediately ignored him. Miko then sighed.
"Though there are the crazy ones in the town." Miko said.
Blue hair teen looked very annoyed at the class and then spotted an Izuku in the crowd itself. "Hey New kid I know you saw it, I literally saw that guy walking out last night."
"Give it a rest, Carmine." Miko said Annoyingly
Izuku looked surprised when the whole class turned to him, seeing if the Carmine story was true. Izuku nervously looked around.
Miko even turned towards Izuku, noticing how nervous he looked.
"Well, new kid tell them what you saw." Carmine asked, trying to get a hope for his claim. Izuku swore to secrecy, and would never say anything. No matter what.
"Sorry I got home last night early, so I didn't really see anything." Izuku awkwardly said. Carmine had a defeated look as he took his seat by Izuku. The newcomer smacked his head against his desk. Izuku was about to talk to the guy only for Miko to tap Izuku's shoulder.
"Don't worry about him, he does this like every school day." Miko said nonchalantly. The door opened again to relieve a man who wore brown paint and a brown sweater, Black oil hair that was combed down, while his skin was a light brown, and a grumpy face was blasted over it.
"All right everyone take a set." Izuku realized this man was the teacher of the class. Everyone took their seats and the teacher wrote his name on the chalkboard.
"My name is Mr. Cranky and I will be more teachers for the next couple of months to come." Mr. Cranky said to the class. "It also appears we have a new student in the class. Please introduce yourself."
Izumi got up from his seat and stood in front of the class.
"Hello my name is Izuku Midoriya, please take care of me." Izumi then bowed to the class and sat back down.
"Hello, Izuku." The class said back.
Izuku couldn't help but look around the class not seeing any people with mutations, or goofing around with their quirk. Everyone was ordinary. Izuku felt like he was in a place where he wouldn't be judged by others.
Izumi found the lessons to be a cakewalk. Though Miko did try to whisper, Carmine constantly tried to talk to Izuku but was shushed by Mr. Cranky.
Soon the bell rang and most of the class packed up their things and began leaving. Izuku began packing his things when Miko walked over to his desk.
"Yo Izuku do you want to eat lunch together? Since you're the new kid, maybe I could help you around." Miko said.
Izuku went red with embarrassment at the thought of eating with a girl, which made him blush but he brushed it off quickly.
"Oh, that would be amazing." Izuku said. Carmine raised his head from his desk.
"Alright we're eating this time Miko, last time we ate our lunch in the teacher's Lounge and we almost got detention for it." Carmine said As he reminisced the horrible memory. Miko only shrugged at Carmine which made him grumble. He then looked at Izuku.
"Oh, Izuku this Carmine Fanzone, A foreign student from America and a conspiracy nut." Miko said.
"I prefer somebody who just asks more questions than a but once your label people can't let it go." Carmine said, annoyed, he apologetically looked at Izuku. "Hey sorry about the whole pointing you out in front of the whole class thing."
Izuku could see where he was coming from.
Imagine you see a spaceship passing by you nobody would believe it, but Izuku knew the Maximals Secret came first.
"So come on guys let's go eat." Miko cheered on. Izuku and Carmine followed behind as they walked through the halls.
"So Izuku, what made you want to come out into the countryside?" Caroline asked. "I mean the big city heroes and Villains' playground, it isn't the best place to live when people are throwing cars at each other."
"Well, my dad had found a way cheaper place to live so we came here." Izuku examples.
"Well welcome to the most boring town ever." Miko chimed in.
The two walked down the hallway only to hear somebody scream, the group looked down the hall to see a needy boy on the ground shaking in fear. While standing above him, was a young girl who wore the same school uniform as Miko, though she wore a black leather jacket, and black spiked boots, her skin was flawless amber. Her hair was a mix of red and yellow which gave her hair a warm vibrant look. Her eyes were shaped green.
The girl had a smug smirk on her face, as she held onto a wad of Yen in her hand. She looked at the kid on the ground. "You trying to cheat me out of my money, nerd."
The nerd began to bow on his knees apologizing for the money. "Please I don't have enough this month, but ill pay you double next time."
She angrily looked down at him with a frustrated glare. "Next time you better pay double or else your secret gets out, Got me."
The nerd shook in fear and nodded, running off into the next hallway. She looked at the cash in her hand and slid it into her pocket. Her gaze soon fell on Izuku, Miko, and Carmine.
"What are you looking at." Miko glared back at her with a tightened fist while Carmine put his hand on Miko's shoulder.
"Come on it's not worth it." Carmine said trying to pull Miko back. She then noticed Carmine and smirked. "What the matter Carmine have to show the runt your next wack job theory."
Carmine grumbled but wasn't phased by her insult. "Come on it's not with it." Miko walked back with Carmine, the two started to walk away only to realize they were missing one in their group. Miko and Carmine turned to see Izuku standing his ground looking at the bully with nervous eyes. She didn't like the way he stood there watching her.
"Something you want says broccoli head." Before Izuku could say a word he was pulled back by Carmine and Miko. Izuku wanted to stand up to her, but couldn't find the words. It's ironic he could insult a giant killer T Rex, but the school bully was a whole other world.
"Izuku she not worth it." Miko grumbles. Though the amber skin girl still stared at Izuku as they walked away.
"Who was that?" Izuku asked.
"Just stay away from her, trust us." Carmine said guiding him away from her.
All of them made it to the top of the school roof door. Miko stopped the group. Carmine slapped his forehead.
"This is it, this was eating, on the roof." Carmine said. Miko shrugged her shoulders.
"I don't see what the problem is." Miko said as she walked through the door at she walked outside. Carmine followed behind, while Izuku was hesitant, as thoughts of being bullied entered his mind, why are they being nice to me, I mean im no that cool. Carmine noticed Izuku stopping behind.
Carmine worried a bit.
"Hey if you're afraid heights." Carmine said calmly. Izuku shook of his doubt and followed behind. He walked through the door only to see a grand view of the mountains, the old trees that surrounded the town stood mighty, also seeing the town below. It was quite a view. Izuku had an open mouth to the site.
"Nice view uh?" Miko asked excited to share the view with somebody new. Carmine sat on the title roof and pulled his lunch out.
"Well let's what dad packed for me." Carmine said out loud. Miko sat down and opened her lunch.
"Oh grandma tell me it's something good." Izuku sat with them enjoying the view with them. Though a question in his mind did start to pop up. Has he eaten with them?
"Can I ask you two something?" Izuku asked gaining both of their attention. "Why are two being so nice to me?"
They just turned to each other and shrugged their shoulders nonchalantly.
"Why not?" Miko says.
"Yay you seem like a cool dude and if Miko thinks you're nice, I think you're nice." Caroline says Reassuring Izuku. they just wanted to be friends with him. Izuku feels even embarrassed for asking the questions.
"I'm so sorry for asking you guys that, it's just always hard for me to make-"
"Friends," Miko said, cutting him off. Izuku oh surprise that Mika finished the sentence like she knew the answer as she heard it before. Carmine then takes a big sigh.
"Let me guess people don't really like hanging out with the quirkless kid right?" Izuku suddenly had wide eyes.
"Thought so, well welcome to the club." Carmine said. "Back in New York, if didn't have a quirk you were on the bottom of the food chain."
Miko scoffed at Carmine and looked at Izuku. "You think that's bad try being the only one without a quirk in your family." She said trying to top Carmine's story.
"Always looking for new members, for our little club though." Miko said happily looking at Izuku.
"Is that why you guys are talking to me because im you guys aren't I." Izuku said figuring out the situation he was in. Izuku didn't know what to see, people never reached out to him and never asked if they wanted to be friends. Carmine nodded at Izuku.
"Yay sorry, we didn't want to guilt trip you or anything." Carmine said oddly feeling bad for dragging Izuku into this.
"No it's alright, I'm not really good at making friends, but I wouldn't know where to begin your guy's friend." Both Carmine and Miko had hope in their eyes. A new friend is always great. Miko self-pumped herself up.
"OH, MAN NEW FRIEND!" Miko said. "Let me tell you, Carmine is super, into heroes."
Carmine gives Izuku a happy smile.
"Oh really, what were the top three heroes in the USA last year?" Asked wanting to test Izuku's knowledge.
"Oh that's ease Stars and stripes, blockade and it was a tie between skyline and Slo-mo," Izuku stated with a happy smile. Both of them had shocked faces.
"Told you he was good." Miko said patting Izuku on the back.
"Man I didn't know Skyline made it on the list, you're good." Carmine said. "Well I'm more of a Conspiracy nerd but that's about it."
The three talked Non Stop each other, each about their passions. Miko is pretty heavy metal and is decent at the guitar. Carmine talked about all these wild conspiracy theories, especially about aliens. Izuku obviously dodged some of the questions.
He felt a warm feeling of Excitement build up in his chest, is this what having friends is like? Caroline then stood by the faced gate.
"That's where I saw the spaceship crash, Miko this thing was huge, the crazy part is it made no sound." Caroline exaggerated the details of the story. Izuku could only stare in worry, as a Worrying thought came to his mind. Who else knew the Maximals were here?
"Oh really, well at least it won't be a repeat of the vending machine incident." Miko said, trying to hold in a giggle. quoting with her fingers.
"What happened?" Izuku asked, only for Carmine to grumble.
"I hate machines." was all that he said, but he changed the topic and looked at the two.
"Miko, Izuku we should go looking for it, the spaceship. Next week." Caroline said excitedly. Izuku knew he couldn't let anyone see the Maximals, their secret must be protected. Izuku thought of a way to dissuade the group.
"Actually I read some maps before I came to this town and it didn't say they were paths that went that way." Both Carmine and Miko were affected by the news.
"Ah don't worry, it will be fine, it's like ten miles out, nothing to be worried about." Miko then gave Carmine a worried look.
"You're going to get us lost." Meiko said nonchalantly. Caroline slumped in defeat laying on the floor.
"Fair point." He said.
Izuku knew he had to change the subject. This was his chance to Dissuade the group.
"Okay hey what's up with that girl in the hallway?" Izuku asked. Miko then gave a slight pout at the mention of her. Caroline also grumbled.
"That was, little miss the sunset known as Harimi." Miko said.
"Aka the school bully." Carmine chimed in. Izuku felt his blood run cold, he sure has this fair share of it, and boy was it not fun. "She one mean chick dude and a quirk to match with it."
"I thought there weren't people with quirks here." Izuku asked.
Miko then shocked her head.
"Most People here don't have any major quirks but there are a couple that stands out, and Harimi is like the total Worst!" Miko said in an annoyed tone of voice. "She uses her quirk on people and blackmails them. It's awful."
"What's her quirk?" Izuku asked wanting to know how to avoid that outcome.
"Her quirk is called I know, any person she touches knows that person's deep thoughts and Specific moments in history." Izuku froze at Mikos words with a quirk like no one could hide a secret from her. The worst is if she touched him. The Maximals would be revealed and All might secret injury. Avoiding her at all costs was the thought that came to mind. Then a worrying thought came to his mind: she used to blackmail people.
"Any deep dark thought, any embarrassing memory in, and most of all some deep dark secrets to hide about even from yourself, she'll know." Carmine said.
"Has she used it on you guys?" Izuku worriedly asked.
Both of them became silent, but their silence spoke for itself. The bell rang for the next period to begin. Both of them got up and headed for the door. Miko turns to Izuku before heading toward the door.
"He Izuku just be careful she doesn't get to you, okay." Miko chimes.
Izuku nodded at the advice, thankful that someone was looking out for him. He was left alone on the roof as he stared in the Maximal direction.
"I won't let your Secret be out, you have my word Optimus." Izuku swore to himself out loud.
The rest of the day went by fine, with some class here and there, but it was Normal and like that. Izuku was soon walking away from the school, things packed and ready to start the next day. Izuku then felt a buzz on his hip, he checked his phone only to see no one calling him.
He realized it was the other Communications device he had. He pulled out the maximal symbol from his back pressed on the face of it. He put his ear to the Device.
"Uh hello." he asked.
"Izuku to base this Optimus do you read me." Izuku held the Device closer to his ear and made sure no one was around.
"Izuku, we need you back on the ship asap." Optimus asked. Izuku had wide eyes.
"You got I promise I'll be there as soon as I can." Izuku hung up the Device. He oddly felt an excitement buildup in him. He was going to help as much as he could, and he wouldn't stop no matter what.
"Weird phone, you got their fresh meat." A familiar voice said behind him. Harimi was right behind with a smirk on her face, she started down Izuku. She was taller than Izuku, by a couple of inches. Her gazes of interest scared him, there is malicious intent behind those eyes.
Izuku immediately backs up a couple of feet from her. Haimi kept her eyes on Izuku with a sly smile.
"Why didn't she touch me?" Izuku thought.
"Aw come on don't be like, I know seemed scary in the hallway, but that Punk deserved it." Harimi said. The way her voice condescendingly said made Izuku concerned.
"What do you want?" Izuku asked.
"Oh, I just wanted to be the new kid and introduce him To the new school." Harimi said as she held out her hand Inviting Izuku to a nice handshake. Izuku only took a couple more steps back. Harimi only smiled more like a Challenge was in front of her.
"Oh let me guess Carmine and Miko told you, I should figure that out." Harimi said "but when I learn the new city kid has no quirk I just had to see what was up, listen, I rule this school never forget that, but I'll give you a pass today, but tomorrow you better watch yourself."
Izuku felt his fist tighten at the decoration of bullying. Harimi then turned around leaving a stunned Izuku. She smirked at her intimidation of the Izuku.
"Oh one more thing, try to ever stand up to me like that again, like in the hallway, you'll regret it."
"How could you do such a thing?" Izuku asked Harimi. She stopped in her tracks to the back talk Izuku gave. "Because why not."
Said as she walked away from Izuku.
Izuku shook it off and ran toward the Maximals base. Izuku had other concerns, the earth could be in peril.
