Darkness and Light

Why is does darkness symbolize evil...? Why does light symbolize goodness...? They could just as easily be switched. So why...? You know what, I really don't know. But I do know one thing, I have my own way of thinking and my own way of action, I have my own hopes and my own fears, I have my own ideas, and even if these ideas are wrong, isn't it better to be wrong in ones own way the to be right in another. And though my ideas may be wrong, they are mine...
Darkness is a curious thing. But certainly not evil. Why does everyone associate the two, I see no resemblance. For darkness is easy to look into, and gentle on the eyes. It gives us a sense of security, and a sense of unknowing. They say things lurk in the darkness, just beyond your vision, but who says that these things are really all that bad...?
If anything, I don't understand the light. They say that the light will give you everything you want and more, but if you were given absolutely everything you wanted, there would be nothing for you to live for. And anything more given to you would be something you didn't want. They say darkness is evil, but why is it whenever we look to the light it hurts our eyes... So ask yourself, what is true evil, really...
