I rushed out of the fortress to see people running through the gate.
"Miss Weiss!"
There was the orphans, and some of the children. They ran to me scared.
"What's going on?"
"Monsters in the town! My Mom is still there!"
I couldn't go against the crowd with this, even with the stairs that Iago proposed.
Make your own trail.
A dream starts to play. I was escaping a castle by going over the walls. Tying a nearby room and anchoring it to a parapet, I jumped down, and then found myself running down the hill while holding what was left of the rope.
That dream was, it got me down the slope.
There were the monsters. The evacuation to the fortress was still underway. While the people were running, the guard was busy with those monsters that made it inside.
"AHHHH!"
A family of three, a mother and two children. They were about to be crushed by the hands of one of those monsters.
The ninja's knives and shuriken. Throw.
*tok* *tok* *tok*
All of them hit. Get under it!
"Hah!"
Sword. Right into the neck and bring it down!
"Get them out of here! Go! Go!"
A guardsman helped that family up and hurried them to the fortress.
That was one down, and there were more to come.
Sword in the left, and a club in the right, another dream came to mind, where I was in the position of a blacksmith fighting against thieves. The sword was to keep them in place, while his hammer finished them off, and he made sure that the thieves never bothered him again. That is until, they came back with a stronger force.
At the end of it, three more of those monsters dead from that attack.
"Get them out of here!"
More lives were saved.
"AUGH!"
More darkness from the ground. More of those masked monsters. More people tried to run, some stumbled and recovered or were trampled by the slow march. More dead.
I pointed everyone to the fortress. "Get into the fortress! Hurry!"
"Look out!"
Something fell from the sky. A ro-there were rocks falling from the sky.
Now they're throwing rocks!? "Retreat! Retreat!"
The town was now a lost cause. A few soldiers stayed back to help whatever civilians that had difficulty running. Hope to the rest that were still here that they were safely hidden.
…
It's a thought, but maybe the monsters digging and pounding the ground would loosen the soils up for the fields here.
More and more of your station, Old Man-it seems I can't escape you, like how Weiss does.
With the forces that Prince Xander was leading, along with Gunter and my efforts, the monsters at our Eastern Front were kept at bay to the farms. On occasion, when I was facing an enemy in the direction of the South Wall, I kept an eye on that wall. I could see Prince Leo making barriers through his magics and assisting the archers in getting closer to their targets, as well as shielding them from the monster's rocks that they were throwing.
"The monsters! They're falling back!"
They're backing off. I was looking at the town. There was smoke and red.
"They've done what they could-we need to fight through the town!"
…
"Close the gates! Get everyone into the throne room !"
Everyone that could run here was inside.
It looks like the monsters were having trouble getting up to the fortress. Thank Father for this placement, and the Gods for impeding them. But it won't be enough unless we do something!
It was just civilians and a mixture of soldiers and recruits that managed to get into the fortress. A quick count of my numbers-no good, most of our forces were outside of the walls! Why didn't we leave a garrison here? What do we do? What do we do?
"Princess Weiss!"
I turned to the voice. It was Iago, and a number of the loggers and townsfolk. Most were carrying spears, axes and swords from the old armory.
"What are you all doing here?"
"We will not stand idle as we let those monsters destroy this town, but we need a leader to ensure our victory."
Many of them weren't the guard, but something had to be done. I nodded slowly, and then quickly. We won't last long outside there, even with my training and instructions. "Grab everything from the armory, kitchen-anything we can throw at them. Get anyone else that can throw a javelin or fire arrows on the walls!"
[Yes, ma'am!]
"Iago."
"Milady."
"Whatever magic you need to prepare, use my bedroom's balcony."
"At once."
…
Princess Weiss was already becoming more and more of her true station.
Before her orders, I went to the prison where she interrogated the prisoners. The guards were still there, minding the prisoners.
"Guardsmen! Princess Weiss needs all hands to assist. Gather your weapons and meet in the main hall!"
[Yes, sir!]
They all left. Now, for the prisoners.
"Ninja. Tribeswomen. I'm releasing you."
"And die to those things? I know what's going on outside."
"I understand, Flame Tribe Chieftain's Daughter Rinkah. Ninja. You're of the Mokushu clan, correct?"
"…I know well of them."
"Look for their symbol here. You will find a way out with little resistance."
I kicked the key to their shackles towards the tribeswoman and left. She will have a fun time, compared to the ninja who's already skilled in breaking locks.
Now, Weiss' bedroom. While she was away on her duties, Gunter disclosed the news to Hans and I, that she would be recalled to Nohr to join the conquest against Hoshido. I originally had plans to convert this room into my study because of that stairwell leading to the highest point of the fortress. It would be rude to just put her stuff away, even though she didn't have much.
To the top of the tower. The battle had already started-"Urk!"
A strange darkness covered my eyes, and weakened me to the ground.
She will be tested. You will not interfere.
What manner of sorcery…is this…?
