"Archers to the walls!"
"Everyone move!" "Let's go! Let's go!"
With them, Guardsmen and Townsfolk, equipped with the bows, arrows and everything that we had from the armory.
A look beyond the walls, the monsters were making their way up the hill. Some of them were even using Iago's stairs-there was a use for them. They were also a good marker for when to start firing the arrows.
"Archers! Ready arrows!"
Four sets of staircases. The monsters were on their way to the second staircase. As soon as the monsters made their way past the second staircase, they would be in range of the arrows. That's only for the guardsmen, though-what about the others that could wield bows?
"They've got masks! Make sure to aim for their legs, or just below their heads!"
A guardsman suggested it while looking through a spyglass at the enemy.
They were in range of the arrows. "Loose arrows!"
The archers started firing into the crowd of enemies. A barrage of arrows. If anyone was missing a target, then they were either lucky or not looking at the battle itself. Where the enemy was, there was no worry of hitting anyone of ours. Let's hope that Captain's mantra of necessary excess holds true.
Now, we were killing them off. We would all know since the bodies would slowly dissipate into the black essence they were once. But even with our efforts, they were still getting close, and they were multiplying.
They were at the third set of stairs. "Keep firing! Ready javelins!"
The pikemen with us-nine of them-and the javelins that they would use for target practice. Three of the townsfolk brought slingshots and rocks-that was surprising.
They were past the third set of stairs. "Loose javelins!"
We had the high ground, making it easier for either arrow or javelin or rock to travel down the mountain.
Some of the bodies weren't disappearing like the first ones. Were they still alive-oh no. They were using the bodies of their own to try and climb up faster! They were getting closer! We were ready, hopefully!
"They're coming up the other sides!"
I rushed to the other side for a look. There were bodies climbing up the side of the wall.
The force at the front wall was at least forty people. With a tap on the shoulder, I had some eight of the archers and two of the lancers to the West Wall, and five of the archers and the slingshot bearers to the East Wall.
It was safe to assume that no one would be coming up the North Wall, since the rocks had little to no holding.
*CRUMBLE* *CRUMBLE*
Some of the monsters were throwing rocks, but they were missing the target, and even hitting some of their own. It was a relief-
"They're at the walls! Bring out the fires!"
An idea from one of the soldiers. Some to throw hot oil and tar on the monsters. Some to throw torches, arrows lit with fire and any manner to make sure that it ignites and burns the monsters. It was successful, as some of the towers that their bodies made couldn't handle the heat!
It was only the monsters. It was only the monsters.
*BANG* *CRASH* *CRUMBLE*
Now the rocks were hitting the walls.
"They're throwing rocks at the walls!" Some of the guard were getting scared staying in position!
"Keep firing! Only stop to move, but keep firing!"
"They're climbing over!"
Not only were they climbing over, they were breaking down the door!
"They're getting too close! They're going to break through!"
Where the devil is Iago!? I looked to the tops of the my bedroom's tower. He wasn't there. What happened to him?
What do we do now? What do we do now?
Fall back and muster up.
Alright. We've held out long enough. Hopefully the battle outside was finished, and there was enough to spare to help here. "Retreat to the gate! Get everything you can! Abandon posts and set up at the front of the doors!"
