Chapter 15
Normal POV
5:00pm
The whole group met where the Halloween Fair was taking place it was set so that it was safer for trick or treating, but also have fun with different games, activities, food stalls, haunted houses ( mostly for older kids and adults ) and a few rides such as the Ferris wheel, ghost tunnel and a merry go round.
The first to arrive were Duncan and Courtney with Serenity and Trent and Gwen with Louis, once there they got a head start with trick or treating making the kids very excited since they couldn't wait to get start especially when they knew candy was involved.
" Wow theirs lots of people here this year " said Gwen looking around while holding her sons right hand while Trent held the left " yeah but then again this is the most popular event of the year " replies Courtney noticing the amount of people " on the bright side we got here early and able to find a parking spot " says Duncan looking at the next Halloween display.
As they stopped both Courtney and Gwen expressed worried expressions " isn't this a bit scary for the little kids? " asks Courtney looking at the display filled with very realistic graveyard display consisting of not only tombstones, smoke, skulls and even fake corpses it looked more for adults then for little kids.
( AN: inspired by a very evil looking Halloween display that one of the neighbours had one year, I had to rush my niece through it so she wouldn't look at the figures on the lawn. She was 3 at that time )
Duncan snickers at the display " people always go crazy on these things " he says approaching it " its scary " says Serenity hiding behind Courtneys legs " can we go " begs Louis tugging Gwens cape " it's okay we don't have to go to this one " said Gwen looking behind her " maybe we should go to the next one " replies Trent but before they could walk away Duncan starts walking on the path towards the door " Duncan " called Courtney.
Just as he was about to knock the door opened to reveal a zombie trying to scare whoever arrived..
" AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH " scream Courtney, Gwen and Trent.
Duncan didn't looked phased for a moment but instead gave the zombie a less then impressed look " was that it? That was your best " he says only to make the zombie stop being scary " just hand over the candy for the kids " said Duncan holding his hand out making the zombie grunt while handing him 2 big sized candy bar " and throw in 4 more for myself, friends and little red riding hood behind me " he adds grinning only to get another grunt.
The zombie looked behind him but whistled when he saw Courtney " hey hey she's already got a wolf and your looking at him " said Duncan before walking away from the door.
Walking back to the group they look at him in admiration " no way " says Trent looking at Duncan as he held up the bars in his hands " okay that's awesome " laughed Gwen unable to stop smiling, " okay kids I got the treats " said Duncan smiling as both Serenity and Louis came out from hiding.
Holding out there bags they smiles as they watch the bars get dropped into there collection " wow thank you " says Louis before turning to show his parents.
" Thank you daddy, mommy look " said Serenity showing Courtney her bag " and I got one for each of us too " Duncan said passing each of them a bar " sweet " Trent gasps " your the best " adds Gwen smiling at the bar.
" Your something Duncan " said Courtney accepting the bar only to make Duncan smile more " do I get a treat of some kind as a thank you " he says in a flirt like manner making Courtney blush.
" Uh guys we're still here " says Gwen as her and Trent watch the pair while eating there bars, " let's continue " answers Courtney walking away with Serenity trying not to look embarrassed.
7:00pm
After the kids bags were full of candy and no doubt it would last them a year the group decided to go eat, with all the walking and playing a few games they all worked up an appetite. On there way to get food Geoff, Bridgette and DJ finally arrived in costumes.
Geoff came dressed up as a fully dressed cowboy he thought since he had the hat it worked for him, Bridgette was dressed up as a nurse and Dj was a pencil.
" Hey they got a bar here " says Geoff before biting a corn dog getting the attention of everyone else, " that looks fun " says Bridgette taking a bite of her avocado fries with a jalapeño and garlic aioli.
" Oh yeah should we get a little spirit of Halloween? " asks Duncan finishing his pizza getting excited seeing the bar set up with the staff all dressed up as skeletons as they served or made drinks.
" I don't know I mean we have the kids here " says Courtney looking at Serenity enjoy her chicken strips and french fries " true and they need to be watched " agrees Gwen watching Louis eat his mini burgers. " Oh man " sighs Trent, Duncan and Geoff knowing they had a point.
" Hey you guys go and enjoy I'll watch them " says DJ smiling getting " we can go play some games and walk around " he offers making certain ones smiles get bigger.
" No DJ you should enjoy too " says Courtney standing up from the table " don't worry you deserve it Courtney and its been awhile since I babysit just let me know where to find you guys " explains DJ holding his cellphone in hand. Knowing there was no winning Courtney sighs " okay thank you DJ I appreciate it " she says giving him a hug " yeah DJ we owe you one " says Gwen smiling putting a hand on his shoulder.
" Okay Serenity be a good girl for DJ " says Courtney getting her attention " listen to what he says and stay together okay " adds Duncan looking serious " yes mommy and daddy " Serenity answers nodding her head knowing well.
Trent kneels in front of Louis " buddy DJ is in charge me and mommy will be back in a little while " he explains with Gwen beside him " best behaviour only" says Gwen in a firm tone of voice, " I will and dad " says Louis quietly " yeah what is it? " asks Trent smiling at his son. Looking shy and looking else where " can I buy ice cream for me..." he pauses for a moment " and Serenity " he finishes making both his parents eyes open.
It took a moment but both Gwen and Trent got the idea " oh buddy yeah for sure " says Trent reaching for his wallet and hold his laugh " here's 10 dollars keep it safe " he adds smiling seeing his sons excitement " I'll go let DJ know " whispers Gwen walking over to DJ smiling.
After everything was settled Duncan, Courtney, Geoff, Bridgette, Gwen and Trent went over to the Adult bar area while DJ watched the kids.
Courtney's POV
As we walked off to the bar I glanced over my shoulder to look over at the kids with DJ, I knew they were safe with him ( especially for being a big guy ) but still I worried especially after when Serenity ran away.
" Hey she's going to be okay " said Duncan putting a hand on my waist leading me away " still I can't help but worry " I answered as we walked farther away from them " were not too far away and if need be we can call DJ " explains Duncan trying to calm my thoughts.
Sighing heavily I try to relax and keep calm as we arrived at the bar.
Once we entered the area it looked fun and it seems like everyone was having a good time, there was a dance floor where coincidently a DJ dressed as a robot was playing music, aside from work I can't remember when was the last time I actually got to have fun and enjoy myself.
" There's a table " points Trent as we all gather around it, the drink menu was already on the table and cut out in the shape of a bat making most of us laugh at the creativity " alright I'm getting a beer " announced Geoff smiling " same here want one too? " asks Trent looking at Duncan but he expresses a stern look " nope beer left a bad taste in my mouth long ago " answers Duncan looking over the menu.
Getting a weird feeling hearing him say that it made me feel concerned " ooh I'm gonna try this vampire blood Caesar " said Gwen smiling making myself and others laugh " it sounds perfect for you " replies Bridgette looking at the menu over her shoulder " I'll go for the swamp water " she adds resting her arms on the table.
I couldn't help but smile seeing us have a good time together it's been so long since TDI and with everything I put aside to be a good mom that I wanted to be especially when my own mom wasn't as great as I once thought.
" Alright I'm getting the poison apple aged concoction " Duncan says smiling then handing me the menu " alright lets see " I said looking through the variety just as a waiter walks over to our table " Happy Halloween what can I get for everyone " he asks waiting...
While the others give there order I quickly look for something that will quench my thirst..
" And for little red riding hood " asks the waiter looking at me with his best smile kinda almost making me blush a little " I'll go for the death by sunlight " I answer putting the menu down, " alright I'll be back " he says giving me a wink before leaving.
I hope no one saw that...I can't believe that waiter was flirting with me especially with...
" I'm gonna kick that guys ass " says Duncan sounding very upset along with cracking his knuckles and expressing a look that could kill " okay cool down " said Geoff attempting to calm him down " alright it wasn't cool that he was checking Courtney out in front of you " adds Trent looking back at the bar to see if the waiter was there.
Both Bridgette and Gwen looked a bit nervous at what was happening I didn't like what was going on just as I was about to say something...
Some guys dressed as a biker, baseball player and a king walked past our table " hello hotties " calls out the baseball player eyeing Gwen, Bridgette and myself followed by them whistling at us, this time getting Geoff and Trent angry.
" Beat it " calls Trent at them stepping in front of Gwen " eye my woman again and your face will be in the dirt " says Geoff getting pulled back by Bridgette.
Just then our drinks arrived but delivered by a different waiter who clearly was a bit more professional then the other one.
Looking at Duncan he takes his snout off so that he could slowly sip his drink, he was still angry. Picking up my drink I take a sip putting a hand on his arm making his eye look at me " Let's talk " I said hoping he listens.
Exhaling heavily he picks up his drink and we walk away from the table staying close we go to another empty table.
" I don't like other guys looking at you Courtney especially with that costume on " explains Duncan taking a bigger sip of his drink " I know we're figuring things out and where we go onwards but I get jealous and angry when guys flirt with you...I'm afraid of losing you to someone else" he adds eyeing his half empty glass.
My heart was racing hearing his words I couldn't look at anyone let alone date someone else who wasn't Duncan, he's already been through and missed so much also we lost a lot of time that we could of had together.
Sipping my drink again lifting Duncans face so that he faces me " you won't lose me and I could never want anyone else but you Duncan " I confessed knowing I should just tell him " I still love you too " I said blushing along with lightly biting my lip...
Duncan's POV
I'm relieved no one can see what's going on inside my brain because if they did then they would see that I was currently doing cartwheels like there was no tomorrow followed by jumping in the air shouting to the world " SHE STILL LOVES ME I KNEW IT!!!!!!"
How could I be the luckiest person to have her in my life especially after everything I've gone through these past 4 years, this was the best news of my life.
Inhaling I take both her hands that's holding my face along with her free hand " I'm glad to hear you to say that Courtney because like I said that night I'm not joking I want us to have that chance we didn't get " I breathed rubbing my thumbs over the top of her hands " and make up for the time and days we lost " I add feeling my heart racing.
Smiling more brighter then before Courtney speaks " I'd like that Duncan " afterwards I pull her into a tight hug " I know we can make this work " I whisper feeling her hug me back.
" YES DUDE!!!! " we hear Geoff making us pull apart to see him and the others raise there drinks in the air along with smiling at us.
Shaking my head I groan " way to ruin a moment Geoff " I said along with hearing Courtney laugh lightly " don't worry " she says patting my shoulder...
Just then an old school song starts playing getting my full attention I listen to the lyrics...
" Maybe it's intuition "
Nodding to the song I look at Courtney then slowly smile...
" But some things you just don't question
Like in your eyes, I see my future in an instant
And there it goes
I think I found my best friend "
Without saying anything I lead her directly to the dance floor where other couples are dancing, " I believe I overheard you say earlier that you didn't go to prom " I said pressing her body against mine...
" I know that it might sound
More than a little crazy but I believe "
" Oh you heard me say that " asks Courtney in a shy tone of voice as I bring her arms up so that they go around my neck as I secured my arms around her waist, " yeah just know I would of taken you to prom pregnant and if anyone said anything about it they're dead " I explained making her giggle...

As we started slow dancing, I rest my forehead onto hers and we look into each others eyes...
" There's just no rhyme or reason
Only the sense of completion "
Right now at this moment nothing mattered but us...

I'm realizing Courtney was what was missing from my life, those days in jail all I could think of was her and how I wanted to rush back to her. Go back to fixing the errors of my past and to always have Courtney beside me...

" Hey guys don't mind us " says Trent to see him and Gwen dancing a little bit away from us " yo my man smooth moves " said Geoff winking while Bridgette smiles at us...

Courtney laughs in my shoulder and I couldn't help myself that I muffled my laugh, " well I guess our prom moment is getting attention " I say into Courtney's ear

" I don't think it's ruined but more like being shared with good friends " explains Courtney smiling " plus you kinda need friends to be at prom too " she adds making me nod in agreement, it would be a lonely prom if it was only the two of us...

Raising a brow followed by grinning mischievously " but if it was the two of us then I wouldn't be able to do this... " pressing my lips right onto Courtneys lips I kiss her deeply along with her kissing me back...

" YEAH GO DUNCAN " shout Geoff and Trent. Okay so maybe this moment wasn't ruined and I don't think it could...

" EW!!! "
We both part from each other to see from the side DJ giving a nod in agreement.
As well as carrying Serenity and Louis in each of his arms while they cover there eyes, " gross " said Louis taking one of his hands off his eyes " cooties " says Serenity still not looking at us. This officially made us all laugh in the end as well as remember this night.
After dropping off Courtney and Serenity we said our good nights along with another deep kiss which made Serenity run away.
As soon as I arrived home while standing in front of my door I sent Courtney a text asking her something...
Me: So were those thigh highs you've been wearing?
I smile seeing her writing back
Courtney: You'll never know
I snap my fingers at her answer then I type another message but more serious
Me: Can I take you out on a date next Saturday?
I don't see her writing back which made me nervous, was I asking too soon? Just then she writes back...
Courtney: Yes, I'd love too
" YEAH " I say out loud in the hallway not giving a damn and most importantly I was getting then women I love back.
