Goodbye
"Robin we need to talk" said Raven in a quiet voice, her cape flapped about in the wind as she looked at the back of Robin's head. Robin turned away from the city and looked at her, not even his mask could hide the tears that where slowly escaping from his eyes.
So here we go
Having the same old fight again
There she goes
Same old game that never ends
Raven spoke and Robin listened, it was the conversation they had had at least three other times since they had become a couple. But this time it sounded different, this time it sounded like it was the last time he'd ever hear it. His mind kept telling him to try and say something to make her change his mind but the words never made it to his mouth, instead becoming an immovable lump in his throat, stopping him from breathing let alone talking.
If I could say
The right words
I know I could make stay
If I could say
The right words
Things would work out all right
High above them the clouds wept, spilling their own tears onto the earth below them as Raven spoke. Robin didn't flinch or move as Raven's words bore into his heart, slowly breaking it as the rain soaked him to the skin. Again his mind told him to try and make her change her mind but the words once again never made it to his throat.
And if you go
I won't believe
That it's forever
And you can go
But I'll never leave
Cause it's not over
Raven stopped and fought against her tears, trying to stop them from falling from her eyes as she looked at the person she had given her heart to. Robin prepared to speak but instead he coughed, he didn't know what to say, desperately searching for the words to make this all go away.
Replay last night
Talking it out don't make it right
I knows she's tried, but my whole world
Is her and all we've got now
They both just looked at each other, ignoring the rain that fell from the weeping clouds above them. Ten Raven spoke again, her voice remained calm but the sadness and pain o the conversation could clearly be heard.
And if you go
I won't believe
That it's forever
I won't let go
Even if she says that it's over
I know it'll be
Different this time
If you'd just stay
Robin moved towards Raven and reached out to her, his trembling hand brushed against hers before they both locked together. Robin stared into her eyes, remembering the day he had first really looked at them. Raven moved towards him and pressed her head against his chest, her tears left small puddles on his soaking wet costume as he rested his free hand on her head, stroking her drenched hair gently.
"Please don't let this be the end" he wept softly as he closed his eyes and forced out his tears.
And when we wrote this story
How did it end?
It was you and me for all our lives
Come on, don't say it
we'll try again
And if I'd just hold you
We could last
Raven then pulled away and looked at Robin and spoke a single word, a word that caused Robin more pain than any punch, laser or bomb could have ever caused him. Slowly she turned away from and let go of his hand, making the green glove fall onto the ground as Robin's hand floated in the air.
But she stands softly
Tears down her face
Hitting me, oh god
This is the end
I'd wait here for you
But there's nothing more I can do
When she had disappeared back into the Tower Robin fell onto his knees, openly spilling his tears as he looked down at the glove on the ground. The last word she spoke to him ringed in his head, making his tears fall that little bit harder and faster.
How did you know
How did you know
How did you know
Finally
"Goodbye"
