When it happens, it happens in a blur. They've been friends for so long that maybe it shouldn't be a surprise, but Rey can't help but feel like the rug has been swept out from under her.
One day, they run into each other at the park and they're talking, laughing, reminiscing about their exes, and bonding over fish and chips and their favourite MMORPG before going home to their separate lives and goals. Within a week, all she wants to do is spend every free moment by Poe's side. Her mind wanders when they're apart, and saying goodbye is pathetically hard, and he's always just as eager to plan their next outing as she is. As a teenager, she swore she would never allow herself to get this swept away by another person, but there's no fighting this onslaught of feelings and she isn't even sure she wants to.
Six weeks later, they're engaged, and all their friends are exchanging money and talking about how they always knew. Their smugness would usually bother her, but it's hard to protest when she knows they're right.
Within three months, they're at the altar.
