Chapter 22:

We Bare Bewear

Location: Route 7

With the Wela Volcano trial conquered, it was onwards to my next one in the Lush Jungle. To get there, I would need to go down Route 8. And to get there, I would need to go through Dividing Peak Tunnel, which is a tunnel dug into the side of Wela Volcano.

Location: Dividing Peak Tunnel

Nothing too special about this place. Just sort of a tunnel that you walk through. But I did see some unfamiliar Pokémon on the ground. They were purple, white and flat. They scurried away on the floor when they noticed me.

This Pokémon is a coward. As it desperately dashes off, the flailing of its many legs leaves a sparkling clean path in its wake.

It was a route by the ocean! Just what I needed. Well, actually a lot of Alola's routes are coastal so that didn't make much sense. But still, it was great!

"Okay," I told Rotom. "Let's hit the road!" As I started walking, I saw a sign. I went up to read it.

"Warning.

This area is a popular home to dangerous Pokémon called Bewear.

If you see one, do not go up to it."

"危険: キテルグマ."

"I will keep that in mind," I said.

"Good idea. Roto."

A few seconds down the road, I came across an Ace Trainer.

"I'm training to be a Sky Trainer! But I will battle on the ground for now."

Elliott Vs. Ace Trainer Eileen

"Go Wingull!" shouted Eileen.

"And I'm using Munchlax!" I replied.

"Use Water Pulse!" Wingull fired a ball of water at Munchlax.

"Come back with Chip Away!" Munchlax punched Wingull in the face. It was a Critical Hit and it was down in one.

"Okay then. Fearow, take to the sky!" Out came a brown Pokémon with big wings and a sharp beak.

Carrying food through Fearow's territory is dangerous. It will snatch the food away from you in a flash!

Spearow -Lv 20- Fearow

"Urgh, not Spearow's evolved form," I said shuddering. "Okay Munchlax, take a break. Come out Torracat!" Out came my Fire Type.

"Fearow, Aerial Ace!" Fearow flew down and hit Torracat.

"Now use Fire Fang!" Torracat chomped down on Fearow with its blazing teeth.

"Fearow, use Assurance!" Fearow then knocked Torracat back with its wing.

"Use another Fire Fang!" Torracat used the move again, this time inflicting a burn. The burn was just enough to take down Fearow.

"Wait, Sky Battles are only popular in Kalos…"

A little way down the road, we came across a small-white building. It was cubic and had a small set of stairs going up to a door.

"Hmm," Rotom Dex said. "I wonder who livezz in there? Zzt."

"Hey," I said. "A new Pokémon!" It was pink and black with large arms which it had out to either side in a hugging stance. "Oh no," I said. "Rotom, is that…"

This Pokémon has a habit of hugging its companions. Many Trainers have left this world after their spines were squashed by its hug?! I'm sorry, what?! Roto?

Bewear came running towards us happily.

"No!" I shouted. "Leave us alone!"

"Thunder Wave!" Suddenly, a pulse of electricity hit Bewear. It was paralyzed.

"Zzt. What was that?"

A man came running up to us. He was wearing a grey jacket. He had blonde hair with an (admittedly stupid) streak of blue hair going round. He also had an electronic device on his arm. He had a grey Pokémon with magnets attached to it and what looked like a yellow radar on top of it.

It uses radar to monitor its territory. Intruders are quickly disposed of with an electronic beam.

"Quick!" he said. "Inside there! It's called the Aether House!"

We had no choice but to trust him.

Inside was as white as the outside. There was lab equipment in various places. There was also a small-pink Pokémon laying on a table, injured.

"Izz that, Roto? It muzzt be Bewear'zz pre evolved form!"

Despite its adorable appearance, when it gets angry and flails about, its arms and legs could knock a pro wrestler sprawling.

The man with the Magnezone (now sent back to its Pokéball) came in. "Sorry about that," he said. "I haven't introduced myself. My name is Colress. I was once a Team Plasma scientist in the Unova region but now I am part of the Aether Foundation."

"Interesting," I said. "So… what do you do?"

Colress went over to the Stufful on the table and stroked it. Slowly, it opened its eyes. "This Stufful… was attacked by Team Skull."

"Thozze brutezz! Roto! If I could uzze movezz, I would give them what for! Zzt zzt!"

"Leave that to me," I said. "And you're taking care of it?"

Colress nodded. "Yes. That is what the Aether Foundation do. Currently, the two members based here are gathering berries. But I think Stufful might be ready to head on home." Stufful slowly but surely got onto all fours. It looked around.

"I think its ready!" I said. "Hey, do you think that Bewear, could be its mother?"

"Potentially," Colress said. Colress peaked out the door to see Bewear. It was starting to move a bit more. "The paralysis might be starting to wear off. Let's get Stufful back! But be prepared!"

"Got it!" I said. "Come out Makuhita!" I sent out my Fighting Type. "If Bewear tries to hug us, stop it!"

Makuhita nodded.

Location: Route 8

We all walked out towards the Bewear. It was fully mobile again. Bewear saw us, then saw Stufful.

"Stop!" I said. "We don't want a hug! We will give Stufful back to you if you go back into the forest."

Bewear saw its child. Stufful walked over and rubbed its head against Bewear's leg. It was very adorable. Bewear smiled, then slowly made its way towards us.

"No!" I said. "Bewear what did we just say?!"

Makuhita went in. It pushed Bewear's stomach which stopped it from moving. However, Bewear started getting more frantic. Makuhita was now getting pushed back. "Come on!" Colress said.

Makuhita kept standing its ground. It grit its teeth, then shouted. This led to Makuhita starting to glow.

"No way!" Colress shouted.

"Makuhita!" I called. "You're starting to evolve!"

Makuhita got bigger and bigger, revealing its evolved form. It was large with two big-orange hands and black legs. It looked like a sumo wrestler.

Although they enjoy comparing their strength, they're also kind. They value etiquette, praising opponents they battle.

Makuhita -Lv 24- Hariyama

Hariyama lifted up Bewear and threw it on the ground. Bewear looked at us, grabbed Stufful and ran back into the forest.

"Nice one!" I told Hariyama.

"Fascinating," Colress said. "You know, my goal is to bring out a Pokémon's fullest potential. I spent a small time in Kalos studying Mega Evolution, but I came to Alola to pursue my research even further. Oh, and look! The Aether Foundation are back!"

We were greeted by a man and woman wearing entirely white. I stood in fear; they were dressed like the people in my dream.

"We got Berries!" said the man.

"Oh, Stufful's left," Colress said.

"Yeah!" I said. "To bad you can't get it!"

"Huh?" Colress asked. "What's come over you?"

"It's…. nothing," I said. "But… I really think I should go."

"Huh? Roto?"

"Thanks for teaching me all that!" I said.

"Wait!" Colress said. "A gift?" I stopped, and he flung me a TM. "It's for Flame Charge! Hope it helps!"

I nodded, then ran away not looking back.

Location: Route 8 Pokémon Center

"We hope to see you again!" said Nurse Joy as she handed me back my Pokéballs.

"Thanks," I responded, walking off.

"What wazz all that about? Roto!" Rotom Dex asked.

"I'll… tell you at the Motel next door," I said.

Location: Route 8 Motel

"Zzt! A dream?" Rotom Dex asked. "With the Aether Foundation? Roto! And Lillie wazz being chazzed by them?"

"Yeah," I said. "And then… she was teleported off. I seemed to be having the same dream for the first week when I visited Alola. Then, when I met Lillie, which was the same day I met Tapu Koko and Litten, I just stopped having it."

"Why didn't you tell me? Roto."

I lay down on the poorly kept bed. "I dunno. I just thought no one would believe me. Maybe, and I hope, it means nothing. The Aether Foundation seem like they want to do good."

"Relax," Rotom Dex said. "We'll just see what happens. But whatever does happen, I'll be with you every step of the way!"

Happy dayzz! Roto! Makuhita evolved into Hariyama! So let'zz look at a Fighting Type move!

Hammer Arm! Roto!

Hammer Arm izz a really strong move! At power 100, it really packzz a punch! Roto! But, there izz a caveat. It lowerzz the userzz Speed. So, uzze it wisely. Or if a slow Pokémon is uzzing it, go nuttz! Well, the move only hazz 5PP so be wary anyway. Zzt.

Pokémon that can learn Hammer Arm include Sudowoodo, Golurk and Bewear! Roto!
